Passing Monday night, it outlaws any weapon the community leaders believe to be “assault weapons,” especially AR-15s. But they don’t stop there, they’re grabbing all “semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns with certain features.”
“This is our fight. This is our generation’s fight, and we’re going to keep fighting,” said student Ariella Kharasch at a public hearing, who attends Deerfield High School. “Thank you for being part of that.”
Starting on June 13th, the new rule will be implemented and residents who decide to not comply by that date can face up to $1,ooo daily fines. Deerfield town’s rule-makers got the idea for the ban from one enforced in Highland Park, IL. The case went all the way to the United States Supreme Court; to which the high court let a lower court ruling allowing the ban stand.
“If Highland Park, if Deerfield, if more towns say no to this type of weapon, maybe the state of Illinois says no,” said town manager Kent Street. “Maybe the federal government says no.”
This new rule faces fierce opposition, though. “You are the bureaucrats that Thomas Jefferson warned us about,” said Deerfield resident Dan Cox.
“There were a lot of emotional arguments and not a lot based on fact,” said local Daniel Easterday. “Deerfield is a very crime free community, and I don’t see how this is going to make it any more crime free.”
“Larry Nordal of Deerfield cited their rights under the Second Amendment and expressed fear that more restrictive laws would be passed in the future,” the Chicago Tribune stated.
“The ordinance to store firearms was only passed for one reason,” Nordal said. “That was to have an amendatory vehicle that could be used in the future for just this purpose so you could banish assorted firearms in the future. First it’s going to be assault rifles. [There will be] new bans in the future. It’s just a matter of time.”

Reagan Stevens, the deputy director for Mayor De Blasio’s Office of Criminal Justice, was arrested Saturday for illegal weapons possession while sitting in a car that ‘reeked of weed’ near the scene of a Saturday night shooting. Stevens was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. A 9mm gun with the serial number scratched off and a shell casing were found in the glove compartment. Cops noticed there was a “strong odor of marijuana” wafting from the SUV.
She was arrested with two men, Montel Hughes, 24, and driver Caesar Forbes, 25. They are also accused of gun charges as well as of carrying knives at the time of their arrest. Cops also found five Ziploc bags of pot in Hughes’ coat pocket. A gravity knife was also recovered from the pocket of his pants. Cops found the loaded handgun in the car. When no one claimed ownership, police took the three of them into custody.
Her main job is implementing a 2017 state law that will raise the age at which kids can be prosecuted as adults for non-violent crimes from 16 to 18. Prior to her current position, Stevens served as the Deputy Director of the Mayor’s Action Plan’s Behavioral Health and the Criminal Justice System Task Force. She also spent 15 years implementing crime prevention, adolescent diversion programs and alternatives to incarceration at the Kings County District Attorney’s office.
Just last month he joined a student walkout in Brooklyn. He told students: ‘You are making so clear to this whole country that you are sick of the violence, you’re sick of the madness, you’re sick of the slaughter and you won’t stand for it.’
The city’s Office of Criminal Justice suspended Stevens without pay from her job.
‘We take these allegations very seriously,’ said the statement.
Harendra Singh, a Long Island restaurateur, raised as much as $80,000 for De Blasio in exchange for various deals. He pleaded guilty earlier this year to trying to bribe the mayor in hopes of getting a better lease.
Singh testified under oath on Thursday that he steered tens of thousands of dollars to Mayor Bill de Blasio’s political campaigns in return for favorable treatment by the city. Singh also claims that De Blasio not only knew of the illegal arrangement, but encouraged it and actively helped the restaurateur.
“He made many phone calls,” Mr. Singh said of the mayor. “His office was working very hard, from his deputy mayor to his assistant to his intergovernmental affairs person. Everyone was working.”
Former prostitute Gabi Grecko traveled to Las Vegas in early 2013 with Jeremy Reichberg and Jona Rechnitz. They were both major contributors to Bill de Blasio’s mayoral campaign. She claims Reichberg supervised the trysts.
During the private flight to Sin City, Grecko also performed “services” for the duo’s guests. They included retired NYPD Deputy Inspector James Grant, the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office has charged.
Grecko will discuss the mile-high hookups on the stand during the trial.
Reichberg’s lawyers have pushed to block prosecutors from bringing up “any evidence” Grecko and Reichberg had a sordid tryst mid-air. They claim that would have “the potential for unfair prejudice.”

“The citizens have a legal right to protect themselves and their property. If you come into our county and kill someone, you might get killed back. Weapons are a tool. They’re not intended for someone to use in a criminal act.”
“It’s a way to say people in this county have a Second Amendment right and if someone uses a weapon, they’re likely in danger. Don’t do anything crazy. We’re likely to shoot back.”
Do guns really matter to criminals? Consider these examples. Let’s take James Holmes the Aurora movie house killer:
So why did the killer pick the Cinemark theater? You might think that it was the one closest to the killer’s apartment. Or, that it was the one with the largest audience.
Yet, neither explanation is right. Instead, out of all the movie theaters within 20 minutes of his apartment showing the new Batman movie that night, it was the only one where guns were banned. In Colorado, individuals with permits can carry a concealed handgun in most malls, stores, movie theaters, and restaurants. But private businesses can determine whether permit holders can carry guns on their private property.
How about the Columbine shootings?
And remember the 1999 Columbine attack in Colorado. Few appreciate that Dylan Klebold, one of the two Columbine killers, was following Colorado legislation that would have let citizens carry a concealed handgun. Presumably, he feared being stopped during his attack by someone with a weapon.
In fact, the Columbine attack occurred the very day that final passage was scheduled.
Now consider this. Since the 1950s only three mass shootings took place where guns are allowed to be carried. Coincidence? I think not.

Joseph Lawler of the Washington Examiner reports congressional conservatives want Trump to use the 1974 Impoundment Act to rescind some spending authorized by the $1.3 trillion government appropriations bill, and White House officials are reportedly considering doing so.
The measure referred to by the Examiner is officially known as the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974. For the most part, the act established the Congressional Budget Office and gave Congress more control over the budget process.

The Impoundment Control Act allows the president to ask Congress to rescind funds that have been allocated in the budget. Congress is not required to vote on the request, but if they do agree to vote, a simple majority in both chambers is all that is needed to approve cuts the president requests.
Congress has 45 days to approve any or all rescission requests from the president.
A congressional Republican aide told the Examiner that conservatives have been lobbying for Trump to use the Impoundment Act.

“It’s a good opportunity to take advantage of a law passed decades ago and that hasn’t been used recently,” the aide said.
A spokesman for House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., confirmed to The Washington Post that McCarthy’s office is working with the Trump administration on the idea. White House legislative director Marc Short also confirmed the president is looking into requesting cuts to the budget.
“The administration is certainly looking at a rescission package, and the president takes seriously his promise to be fiscally responsible.”

The Impoundment Control Act was put in place in 1974 in response to President Richard Nixon’s practice of withholding funds for programs he opposed. Instead, the act requires any requests to withhold funding to go through Congress.
The Impoundment Control Act is considered obscure because it hasn’t been used often in recent years. The Examiner report says it was never used by Presidents Barack Obama or George W. Bush, but was used frequently during the administrations of Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
After signing the omnibus spending bill that he originally threatened to veto, Trump called on Congress to give him line-item veto authority on spending bills. However, the Supreme Court ruled in 1998 that such authority was unconstitutional.
These measures could pass with just a majority vote, meaning Democrats could do nothing to stop them — unless, of course, they can convince enough Republicans not to support the president’s wishes. Considering the slim 51-to-49 majority Republicans hold in the Senate, it wouldn’t take many left-leaning Republicans to foil the president’s plans.But a chance to rescind some of the budget programs gives conservatives reason for hope — and if Republicans throw away that chance, it will make conservatives angry all over again.

As Law & Crime reported, Manafort’s attorneys are arguing the special counsel was not granted the authority to indict their client since his alleged crimes were not directly connected to Russian interference in the 2016 election.
In a statement this week, Mueller insisted that the move fell squarely within the scope of his investigation, providing both documentation from his initial appointment and a subsequent memo by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein as evidence.
The second document sought to clarify that Mueller did meet the requirement that he “will be provided with a specific factual statement of the matter to be investigated.” Closer inspection of that memo, however, led to accusations that its date did not seem to line up with the trajectory of Mueller’s investigation.
Rosenstein’s memo was dated August 2, but Manafort’s home was raided seven days prior on July 26 (Law & Crime reported a difference of six days, but The Western Journal believes seven to be more accurate). This has led some analysts to accuse the Justice Department of attempting to justify the investigation after the fact.
In a Fox News Channel interview on Tuesday, one prominent attorney who has frequently criticized Mueller’s investigation said the latest development is disconcerting.
“There is something very wrong about that,” said Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz. “This special prosecutor is looking at everything. Where does it stop?”
Though Dershowitz argued for stricter parameters on the range of Mueller’s investigation, other experts predict the facts of the case will prove Manafort’s indictment was valid.
According to former federal prosecutor Daniel Goldman, Mueller “persuasively” made his case that his probe into Manafort’s actions was proper given his mandate to investigate Russia’s meddling in the U.S. presidential election.
“Regardless, given that Manafort was the campaign manager from May 2016 to August 2016 — during the time of the Trump Tower meeting, which he attended, the Republican National Convention, for which the Russia platform was changed, and the leaked hacked DNC emails — we know of ample evidence related to collusion and Manafort to support this search warrant,” he said.
As for the memo released after Manafort’s home was raided, Goldman described it as a legally unnecessary effort on Rosenstein’s part to provide “more explicit detail” regarding the Mueller probe. The document referenced specific claims included in the indictment for an array of financial crimes. Rosenstein wrote that Manafort could be investigated for “crimes arising out of payments he received from the Ukrainian government before and after the tenure of President Viktor Yanukovych.”
The memo further indicated that the “allegations were within the scope of the investigation” as defined upon Mueller’s appointment and are “within the scope of the order.”
As CNBC reported, Manafort’s legal team will be arguing in court this week that his indictment should be dismissed.
Wednesday’s court appearance came just over three months after Manafort sued Mueller and Rosenstein in an attempt to define the extent of the special counsel’s investigation into Russian meddling.

Somali refugees aren’t beating up their kids — who are safely ensconced in expensive private schools, anyway.
Members of our governing class seem to have decided the country is doomed, so they may as well make their pile. Sure, they’ll have to face the wrath of voters and may be voted out of office, like Eric Cantor. But they’ll end up on corporate boards or win lucrative lobbying contracts. Plus, being “progressive” on immigration will look great on their kid’s Princeton application.
Everybody’s looking out for No. 1.
It wasn’t always this way. Politicians, liberal activists and journalists used to care about even non-fashionable Americans. One doesn’t have to go back to the Garfield administration to find a time when everyone wanted to protect the nation from dysfunctional immigration — the crime, the drugs, the poverty, the wage-depressing effect, the burden on our social services. Positions that are today considered hateful used to be called “common sense.”
A 1995 news article in The New York Times calmly described preparations the Immigration and Naturalization Service was making in case a “vast flood of illegal immigrants” surged across the Mexican border, “inundating entire communities as it washes north into the American heartland.” Under the Clinton administration, the illegals would face either “immediate voluntary deportation” or “emergency detention.”
No indignant denunciations followed.

“(The I.N.S.) is extremely troubled, but has improved under the leadership of Doris Meissner. Since her appointment in 1993, … (t)he border is tighter, and the I.N.S. is deporting record numbers of criminal aliens.” — New York Times editorial, Aug. 10, 1997
Just a few years ago, Charles Lane, an editorial writer at The Washington Post, called for “prompt exclusion of unaccompanied Central American minors” during the border surge under Obama. “Only by showing people there is nothing to be gained by paying traffickers for the traumatic voyage through Mexico will the chaos cease.”
The great civil rights icon Barbara Jordan produced a report on immigration more than two decades ago, calling on the government to end chain migration and put a dead stop to illegal immigration, for the benefit of all Americans.
“Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave.”
She added: “Deportation is crucial.”
Far-left Democrats used to openly proclaim ideas that would get them banned from Twitter today:
“When push comes to shove, there is only one realistic way that you can stop illegal immigration into this country, and that is by making it illegal and being tough enough that illegal immigrants cannot work in this country.” — Democratic Sen. Howard Metzenbaum, 1985
“No sane country would (reward illegal immigrants), right? Guess again. If you break our laws by entering this country without permission, and give birth to a child, we reward that child with U.S. citizenship and guarantee full access to all public and social services this society provides — and that’s a lot of services. Is it any wonder that two-thirds of the babies born at taxpayer expense in county-run hospitals in Los Angeles are born to illegal alien mothers?” — Democratic Sen. Harry Reid, 1993
Very recently, a presidential candidate who seemed to actually care about America’s working class denounced illegal immigration as “a Koch brothers” idea. That was Bernie Sanders.
He explained: “Open borders? No, that’s a Koch brothers’ proposal. … That’s a right-wing proposal, which says essentially there is no United States. … It would make everybody in America poorer — you’re doing away with the concept of a nation-state. … You have an obligation in my view to do everything we can to help poor people.
“What right-wing people in this country would love is an open-border policy. Bring in all kinds of people, work for $2 or $3 an hour — that would be great for them. I don’t believe in that. I think we have to raise wages in this country; I think we have to do everything we can to create millions of jobs.” — Bernie Sanders in interview with Ezra Klein of Vox on July 28, 2015
Forget hypocrisy — I don’t care about that right now. It’s the cruelty that interests me.
Have well-heeled Americans really decided to abandon their fellow citizens? These merchants of compassion have none to spare for our own people? I’m not a steelworker, a waitress or a black teenager looking for an entry-level job, either. But I still care about other Americans.

As if to emphasize the depths of the Clinton campaign despair, one staffer yelled into her phone, “Its a f***ing funeral!”
Since November 8, 2016, and Hillary’s crushing defeat by her nemesis, Donald Trump, Madam Pantsuits has been offering up one excuse after another, including her infamous book, What Happened. It seems Ms. C. cannot help herself — she has some twisted variety of Tourette syndrome whereby she can’t stop shouting excuses for why she lost.
According to Bill’s better (but in no way good) half, everyone is to blame for her electoral loss. Everyone but her.
Her latest gambit as described by Paula Priesse:

Clinton: “There’s all that red in the middle, where Trump won. Now, I win the coasts, I win Illinois, Minnesota, places like that. So I won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward, and his whole campaign, Make America Great Again, was looking backwards.”
The delusional Hildabeast then added this BS about Trump’s pitch to voters:
“You don’t like black people getting rights, you don’t like women getting jobs, you don’t want to see that Indian-American succeeding more than you are, whatever your problem is, I’m going to solve it.”
So granny, you lost not because you were a lazy, corrupt and thoroughly uninspiring candidate, but because you believe half of America is poor, racist and sexist. If justice is ever served, this VILE AND EMBITTERED SHREW will spend her remaining years behind bars!

In a recent article by Rachel Blevins at The Free Thought Project in which she pointed out many of the students marching for gun rights apparently didn’t have much of a problem with an increased police state. Yes, that’s not a typo. These were student marching FOR the rights of gun owners, but also promoting the increase of police officers, which is a growth of government.
For more on that topic, I’d refer you to the articles by Rutherford Institute attorney John Whitehead of an excellent article by Daniel Greenfield titled Our State of Police.
At the end of Blevins’ article, she also posted a brief video on five reasons we should consider that the current anti-Second Amendment activists are not seeking more gun control laws, but are, in fact, promoting gun confiscation and a total ban on arms in the united States.

However, the words they are presenting are those of the Communists in our country along with the media’s own efforts to disarm the American public while ignoring the law and history.

conservatives, were just fine with raising the age to purchase rifles and banning bump stocks, the kids are telling you when you give in to that, they’re going to take a lot more because you allowed them to set a precedence, an unconstitutional precedence at that.
The answers these kids give to what should be done concerning gun owner rights is the typical anti-American, Communist lines of “ban assault rifles,” “citizens don’t need ‘weapons of war'” and other common phrases by the same handlers that are feeding them the scripted lines. I mean seriously, does anyone think these kids even know what a semi-automatic rifle is? Probably not. do they even know that AR-15s are not used in actual combat in the military when engaged in war? Probably not.
Whether or not you believe the kids want to ban guns or not, despite them coming right out and saying it, is irrelevant because this is the narrative that the corporate CIA-controlled media is peddling to the dumbed down American population.
In fact, it’s so clear that the media is both pushing for a repeal of the Second Amendment by presenting former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens’ call for a repeal and both by trying to soften the blow by allowing Communists like Chris Cuomo, a man who doesn’t believe rights come from our Creator but from government, to openly say no one is calling for a repeal of the Second Amendment. Cuomo’s own network reported on Justice Stevens’ calls for such a repeal.
And while you listen to some of the useful idiot airheads spewing this garbage in the video above and in the daily news cycle, the reality is that should that time ever come, they will be the first to have their rights stripped and not be able to speak out against anything and if they do, they’ll be summarily shot dead. Oh, the irony, and it’s simply because they have not learned from history. Primarily, they haven’t learned from their forefathers nor the last century in which governments disarmed their people only to come in later and murder them by the hundreds of millions.
If you are one that doesn’t believe the media’s propaganda is working in conjunction with an illegal and corrupt public school system that has dumbed down the up and coming generation to the point that they have no idea what the founding fathers of our country even meant when they wrote the Second Amendment, where rights come from as described in the Declaration of Indpendence or anything else in the Constitution, then you should consider that people actually applaud when a Democrat candidate for sheriff in North Carolina actually uttered that it was OK to pry the guns from the cold dead hands of gun owners, and by that, the implication was to kill them to confiscate their arms.
But it’s not just people running for office. A new Quinnipiac poll released Tuesday found that two-thirds of American voters support stricter gun laws, reaching the highest level in the poll’s history. Take a look at that polling and see how things have changed drastically in the past 20 years. Fortunately, we are not a democracy that is ruled by the emotions of a childish mob, but a republic under the rule of law.
The March for Our Lives is a sideshow of WWE. Like its counterpart of politicians in DC, March for Our Lives is not born of genuine concern, but rather an agenda, and as with every anti-gun cry, it’s funded by the usual suspects. People like Michael Bloomberg and George Soros are behind the money that supports the movement. Ironically, baby murderers Planned Parenthood, an organization that actually murders children unlike the National Rifle Association, also throws in some of Americans’ tax dollars that it is unconstitutionally given by your corrupt representatives, including President Donald Trump.
As an “astroturfed” movement, March for Our Lives is meant to appear as a grassroots movement, but it’s all funded and orchestrated by outsiders. The march in DC really was going nowhere. It garnered just over 200,000 people and that included media and the whining children.
Additionally, Nazi-style gun laws are being promoted, even here in the deep South where I live by such people as Democrat Georgia Rep. Erica Thomas, who supported legislation to seize and take possession of semi-automatic guns, high capacity magazines and ammunition and yet, she says she doesn’t want to do it by force. Talk about Orwellian doublespeak
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We’re seeing another assault weapons ban being formed in DC, and around the country cities and states (New Jersey, Delaware, Vermont, Oregon and Florida) are banning bump stocks even though people can bump fire without a bump stock and pushing for more unconstitutional gun laws! It’s going to get worse too. And you believed President Trump when he told you that your Second Amendment rights were no longer under attack. He’s been aiding in the attack!
There were some good comments in the final 40 seconds. Kyle Kushuv, who is a Florida student and has been reasoned and rational voice in the conversation, pointed out the irony of the failures of government, even in the Parkland shooting, and yet, says it is utterly ironic that people want to trust that same government, even more, when it comes to the rights of gun owners. He’s right on!
We must continue to expose their lies and hypocrisy in order to win the day, and we must be very vocal about it!

As CNS News reported, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement study found 99 gang members had received the status, including nearly two-thirds who were also granted “Special Immigrant Juvenile” status.
The immigrants arrested were targeted as part of ICE’s Operation Matador, described by the agency as a “unified effort to combat the proliferation of MS-13 and other transnational criminal gang activity in Long Island, the New York City metropolitan area and the Hudson Valley.”
As of the most recent updates available, the operation has netted 475 arrests for federal immigration authorities.
“Ninety-nine individuals arrested during this operation crossed the border as unaccompanied minors, all of which were confirmed as MS-13 gang members,” the ICE statement read.
The agency went on to confirm that “64 individuals arrested during this operation obtained Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJ) after entering the country, all of which were confirmed as MS-13 gang members.”
According to ICE, receiving the additional designation “provides certain children who have been subject to state juvenile court proceedings related to abuse, neglect, abandonment, or a similar basis under state law the ability to seek lawful permanent residence in the United States.”
The operation utilized resources from federal authorities in the Department of Homeland Security and local law enforcement personnel in New York.
Since the operation began in May, authorities from Hempstead, Piermont, Suffolk County, Nassau County, Rockland County, Sullivan County and Ulster County have assisted DHS in initiating arrests. According to ICE, a majority of the nearly 500 already arrested were “confirmed as gang members and affiliates.” Two of the MS-13 members arrested have reportedly confessed to homicides committed in their home country. One such individual was described by ICE as gang member “from El Salvador who admitted to killing rival gang members at the age of 12 in his home country and assimilated to the gang on Long Island.”
Aside from MS-13, to which 274 individuals belonged, the agency reported that the “most prominent” gang represented was “the 18th Street gang with 15 arrests.” Not only were many of those arrested connected to known street gangs, ICE noted that “80 had additional criminal histories, including prior convictions for assault and weapons charges.” At least five of those individuals “are facing serious criminal charges,” the agency added.
In addition to the broader issue of immigration, President Donald Trump has frequently made it a point to denounce MS-13 as a dangerous entity inside America’s border. He has referred to the gang’s members as “animals,” and in his first State of the Union speech implored lawmakers to “finally close the deadly loopholes” he said have allowed MS-13 members to enter the U.S.

The only way you satisfy both would be to have a court appearance before the guns are confiscated. That’s not what this bill does. This bill confiscates the guns first. Since she says she’s modeling it after the Indiana law, that means you have fourteen days to go to court and show that there was a reason to confiscate the guns in the first place.
I could be wrong but get the wrong cop or judge and you can lose a constitutional right.
Also, in my humble opinion, you would be reversing due process. If they took you to court first, then the burden of proof is on them but if you have to go to court to get your guns back, the burden of proof then shifts to you. It also makes you vulnerable to vengeful relatives and neighbors. Your brother or your sister could call the police and falsely claim you threatened them with your gun. How could you possibly prove you didn’t. It’s their word against yours and you have the burden of proof.
The Salt Lake Tribune summed up the Indiana law, “In Indiana, law enforcement can confiscate weapons without a judge’s order. The gun owner must ask the court to get the weapons returned.”
Extreme Risk Protection Orders have proved a popular gun control response to the February 14 Parkland school shooting. However, it is difficult to believe such orders would have prevented that attack.
On February 23, 2018, Breitbart News reported, “The family with which [Cruz] was staying repeatedly called the police on him in November 2017 but refused to file charges when sheriff’s deputies arrived.
A member of the family with which Cruz was staying explained away Cruz’s erratic behavior by saying he ‘had been suffering significantly from the loss of his mother’ earlier in the month.”
I think we can all agree that crazy and extremely violent people do not need to have guns, but on the other hand, I don’t want someone innocent to have to face accusations that he or she can’t win. Maybe they could amend the bill to mete out mandatory jail sentences for making a knowingly false claim?

It’s worth REALLY cheering because he is standing up to bullies, and leading by example. He’s putting his own neck on the line in the process.
Douglas school shooter, David Hogg didn’t HAVE to become a ‘public figure’. But he chose to. He liked the perks that came with it. The fame. The big platform. But as anyone who jumps in with the big dawgs at such a young age can tell you, it’s sink or swim. If you make yourself a public figure, you will get called on the carpet if you use that notoriety to make an ass of yourself.
And Laura Ingraham did exactly that. But David changed the rules of engagement. Like the kid who taunts a bigger kid, and then whines ‘you wouldn’t hit someone with glasses, would you’? Only, instead of hiding behind a teacher’s skirt, Hogg hid behind a network of hard-left activists that have been seething with rage since roughly November 2016. And they mobilized a boycott.
So the campaign to bully Laura’s sponsors into abandoning her, to force Fox to remove her from the air began in earnest. Sponsors fell like flies. The left’s bullying-by-proxy worked. The same people who cry about phantom threats to the freedom of the press are becoming literal thought police, actively seeking to destroy those who dare to dissent from their views.
He was also an early supporter of then-candidate Trump, and has made a business practice of using suppliers based in the United States.

| It’s a safe bet that one of them is lying. If it turns out to be McCabe, which is likely, he doesn’t need to worry about his pension as much as he should be worrying about prison. McCabe had testified that he had told Comey about the release but when Comey was questioned, he denied that McCabe ever told him about it.
CNN reported:
Former FBI Director James Comey told internal investigators at the Justice Department that he could not recall McCabe telling him about having authorized FBI officials to talk to a reporter about an ongoing investigation, the sources said.
Comey’s comments to the Justice Department’s inspector general’s office, which were later included as part of the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility report on McCabe that prompted his firing earlier this month, put him at odds with the statements McCabe has made about authorizing FBI officials to provide information to the Wall Street Journal in an October 2016 story about FBI and Justice Department tensions over an ongoing investigation into the Clinton Foundation.
McCabe has publicly maintained that he was in a position to authorize the other FBI officials speaking with the reporter and that Comey was aware McCabe had done it.
McCabe and his lawyer both argue that they didn’t lie to Comey and that Comey’s memory just wasn’t that good. But Jim Jordan blasted that by pointing out that McCabe lied four times about not authorizing the leak:
JORDAN: “McCabe didn’t lie just once, he lied four times. He lied to James Comey. He lied to the Office of Professional Responsibility and he lied twice under oath to the Inspector General.”
“Remember, this is Andrew McCabe, Deputy Director of the FBI. This is Andrew McCabe, the text messages between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page talking about Andy’s office, the meeting where they talk about the insurance policy in case Donald Trump is actually President of the United States… Four times he lied about leaking information to the Wall Street Journal.”

But seriously? Is there anyone on the planet who didn’t understand if you sign up for one of the Facebook apps, you have to agree to share your information (that would be data) with them. Hello? Anyone home McFly?
Obama and his team did that very data-mining thingy and were lauded by everyone in Hollywood and the press.

The 2008 Obama Presidential campaign made history. Not only was Obama the first African American to be elected president, but he was also the first presidential candidate to effectively use social media as a major campaign strategy. It’s easy to forget, given how ubiquitous social media is today, that in 2008 sending out voting reminders on Twitter and interacting with people on Facebook was a big deal. When Obama announced his candidacy in 2007, Twitter had only just started and there wasn’t even an iPhone yet.
Oh goody goody! Barry was the King of Kool and using the social media and data mining tools like a boss! But now that the Trump campaign took advantage of the tools bravely pioneered by Obama’s Social Media Hope Guru’s, Donald’s IT crew is portrayed as Darth Vader’s Imperial Army.

“Young people said, ‘We will not tolerate what our ancestors have tolerated. We’ve had enough and we’re willing to fight for it and we’re willing to march in the streets for it and, if necessary, die for it,’” TV personality Oprah said in comparing the student marches to civil rights demonstrations.
One writer in The New Yorker wrote of the pro-gun control March for Our Lives protest: “The Parkland students seem to instinctively understand that their fight not only crosses racial and class lines but also exists on a historical continuum, as an extension of the civil-rights movement.”
Another recent article in The Washington Post, headlined “Gun rights are about keeping white men on top,” even tried to connect American gun culture and support for gun rights to racism.
However, the author’s historical argument, whether intentionally or not, actually reveals that it is gun control, not gun rights, that generally has been used for the purposes of white supremacy. Gun rights and civil rights, historically, have gone hand in hand.
In a recent interview on “The View,” former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice highlighted the importance of preserving the Second Amendment as an individual right, in some cases the last line of defense in protecting life and liberty.
“Let me tell you why I’m a defender of the Second Amendment,” Rice said on the show. “I was a little girl growing up in Birmingham, Alabama, in the late ‘50s, early ‘60s. There was no way that Bull Connor and the Birmingham police were going to protect you.”
“I’m sure if Bull Connor had known where those guns were, he would have rounded them up,” she said. “So I don’t favor some things like gun registration.”
‘The Work of the Abolitionists Is Not Finished’
In the aftermath of the Civil War, a ferocious battle emerged over how to preserve both federalism and the individual rights of citizens in the states. Gun rights, in some cases, were the only safeguard of liberty and personal safety.
Some of the first states to pass highly restrictive gun control legislation were, in fact, in the Reconstruction-era South. They implemented so-called “black codes” to restrict the rights of former slaves, including the right to bear arms.
One 1866 Alabama law baldly stated that “it shall not be lawful for any freedman, mulatto, or free person of color in this state, to own firearms, or carry about his person a pistol or other deadly weapon.”
The law also made it illegal “to sell, give, or lend firearms or ammunition of any description whatever, to any freedman, free negro, or mulatto.”
Famed abolitionist Frederick Douglass warned about these abuses and said “the work of the abolitionists is not finished” until the Second Amendment and others rights could be protected. This provoked a federal response, according to historian Stephen P. Halbrook. Congress passed the Freedmen’s Bureau Act of July 1866, which guaranteed to other men “any of the civil rights or immunities belonging to white persons, including the right to … inherit, purchase, lease, sell, hold, and convey real and personal property, and to have full and equal benefit of all laws and proceedings for the security of person and estate, including the constitutional right of bearing arms.”
President Andrew Johnson vetoed this legislation, but he was overridden by Congress.
These battles over the protection of individual rights culminated in the passage of the 14th Amendment. The 14th Amendment was designed to prevent states from violating the Bill of Rights, which at the time applied only to the federal government. However, even after the passage of the 14th Amendment, racial conflict and battles over gun rights continued for generations.
As Rice explained, individual firearm ownership was often the only protection black Americans had under some legal authorities that did little to protect them.
As Ida B. Wells, one of the founders of the NAACP and an early civil rights leader, wrote in 1892, a year in which an extraordinary number of brutal lynchings took place: “The only times an Afro-American who was assaulted got away has been when he had a gun and used it in self-defense.”
“The lesson this teaches and which every Afro-American should ponder well,” Wells continued, “is that a Winchester rifle should have a place of honor in every black home, and it should be used for that protection which the law refuses to give.”
An Inalienable Right
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas noted this history in his concurring opinion in the Chicago v. McDonald case in which the court ruled that Otis McDonald, a black Army veteran, had been deprived of his Second Amendment rights by the city of Chicago.
Thomas wrote about how the infamous Dred Scott decision before the Civil War was meant to strip black Americans of citizenship and “the constitutionally enumerated rights of ‘the full liberty of speech’ and the right ‘to keep and carry arms.’”
After the war, former Confederate states attempted to curtail firearm ownership for black citizens, and mob and militia violence against those citizens often went unchecked by local authorities.
“Without federal enforcement of the inalienable right to keep and bear arms, these militias and mobs were tragically successful in waging a campaign of terror against the very people the 14th Amendment had just made citizens,” Thomas wrote.
Thomas concluded that in the opinion of the Founders and authors of the 14th Amendment, “the right to keep and bear arms was essential to the preservation of liberty.”

The documents also reveal that former Senate majority leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, sent a letter on Aug. 29, 2016, asking former FBI Director James Comey to investigate the allegations, which were presented to him by then CIA Director John Brennan. Brennan had briefed Reid privately days earlier on the counterintelligence investigation and documents suggest Reid was also staying in close touch with Comey over the issues.
The documents, which include text messages from embattled FBI Special Agent Peter Strzok and his paramour Lisa Page, also reveal that former Obama White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough was involved in the initial investigation into Trump’s campaign. Comey, Brennan, and McDonough were the “highest-ranking officials at the FBI, CIA and White House” and were working in concert to ensure an investigation was initiated, congressional members told this reporter.
Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, was deeply troubled by the findings.
“We’ve been asking for documents with little cooperation of the DOJ and FBI — we’re having to find these unredacted documents on our own,” said Meadows, who’s also chairman of the House Freedom Caucus. “It appears there was a coordination between the White House, CIA, and FBI at the onset of this investigation and it’s troubling.”
Meadows said John Moffa, who was part of the counterintelligence division at the FBI, met with Denis McDonough on August 10, (2016), Meadows added. “What we’re finding is the more we dig the more we realize that there appeared to be a willful coordination between multiple groups outside the Department of Justice and FBI. Moffa was also the FBI agent who helped draft Comey’s July 5, 2016 exoneration letter to Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.
Meadows said the documents suggest Reid’s briefing from Brennan “was used in Michael Isikoff’s Yahoo News story.”
Isikoff’s article was also used as evidence for the FBI’s FISA warrant being granted against Carter Page. Page was a short-term volunteer advisor on the Trump campaign, who was spied on by the FBI. Congress and the Department of Justice are investigating the FBI’s conduct in obtaining a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrant in October 2016 to spy on Page. Page was a central figure in an unverified dossier put together by former British Spy Christopher Steele alleging the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.
In April 2017, The New York Times published the first story about Brennan’s counterintelligence briefing to Reid regarding Trump. The briefings to Gang of Eight congressional members suggested Russia might be helping Trump win the election. Brennan alluded to the unverified allegation that members of the Trump campaign may be colluding with the Russians. The information briefed to the lawmakers expanded the number of people who were aware of the unverified allegations, and played a significant role in the increase of leaks to the media, according to the information obtained by the committee.
“A chain of events suggest the FBI encouraged Reid to write this letter to legitimize its surveillance of Carter Page”
A congressional investigator told this reporter that they believe the FBI was involved in the briefing to Reid but are still waiting for confirmation.
In the letter from Reid to Comey, Reid cites information Brennan shared with him that Trump advisor, referencing Carter Page, and other “high ranking sanctioned individuals” in Moscow were meeting. Reid asks Comey to launch an investigation by the FBI into the Trump Campaign and the Kremlin.
The letter, which was obtained by this reporter, refers to reports briefed by Brennan but gives “almost no evidence” regarding the Trump campaign and Russia, according to congressional investigators.
For example, the letter only states that “questions have been raised about whether a Trump advisor who has been highly critical of U.S. and European economic sanctions on Russia, and who has conflicts of interests due to his investments in Russian energy conglomerate Gazprom, met with high-ranking sanctioned individuals in Moscow in July of 2016.”
Shortly after Reid’s letter was revealed in a New York Times article on August 30, 2016, Strzok texts Page saying, “here we go.” He included a link to the story in the text message. Congressional investigators suggest that the pair were creating inferences “that they knew it would create public calls for an investigation into Russian interference.”
Sept. 23, 2016, Isikoff article, which cites Reid’s letter, is also another example of possible coordination, congressional investigators state. The FBI used the Yahoo news article as part of the evidence in their application to obtain a FISA warrant on Carter Page.
“This sequence of events strongly suggests the FBI encouraged Reid to write this letter to legitimize its surveillance of Carter Page,” congressional investigators stated.
Reported | Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz, who operates independently from Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Trump administration, announced Wednesday afternoon he will launch an investigation into alleged FISA abuse during the Obama administration.
“Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz announced today that, in response to requests from the Attorney General and Members of Congress, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) will initiate a review that will examine the Justice Department’s and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) compliance with legal requirements, and with applicable DOJ and FBI policies and procedures, in applications filed with the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) relating to a certain U.S. person,” the DOJ Office of the Inspector General released in a statement Wednesday. “As part of this examination, the OIG also will review information that was known to the DOJ and the FBI at the time the applications were filed from or about an alleged FBI confidential source. Additionally, the OIG will review the DOJ’s and FBI’s relationship and communications with the alleged source as they relate to the FISC applications.”
DOJ spokesman John Lavinsky said in a statement accompanying the announcement.
Lavinsky explained that “as part of this examination, the OIG also will review information that was known to the DOJ and the FBI at the time the applications were filed from or about an alleged FBI confidential source.”
Lavinsky noted that the investigation was prompted by requests from several members of Congress and Attorney General Jeff Sessions. House Republicans recently released a memo claiming widespread abuse of the FISA process on the part of the DOJ and FBI in order to obtain a surveillance warrant on former Trump campaign associate Carter Page.
The timing of the investigation and the reference to members of Congress point to Page as the U.S. person. The statement’s reference to a confidential source similarly floats concerns found in the Republican memo which found that the FBI and the DOJ did not disclose the political origins of the Steele dossier in its FISA application and revealed previously undisclosed testimony from former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe that an investigation into Page would not have occurred without Steele’s dossier.
The nature of contacts between DOJ officials and Steele during the opening of an investigation into the 2016 Trump campaign has been the nature of some controversy. The Republican memo especially expressed concern over the nature of meetings between Steele and DOJ official Bruce Ohr, whose wife worked for Steele for some time.
“If circumstances warrant, the OIG will consider including other issues that may arise during the course of the review,” the statement continues.

About a month ago, The Hill reported, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Tuesday that the Justice Department will investigate potential abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). “Yes, it will be investigated,” Sessions told reporters at the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, which oversees FISA warrants, according to the Washington Examiner. He said looking into any abuses is the “appropriate thing” to do.
Trump has publicly pressed Sessions to open up an investigation into potential abuses of the program, which allows U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies to obtain secret surveillance orders on individuals in the U.S. suspected of being foreign terrorists or spies.
The president claimed last year that the Obama administration improperly wiretapped members of his presidential campaign and transition team, though the White House has not provided any evidence to support that claim.
Allegations of FISA abuses surfaced again last month, when Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee released a controversial memo alleging that FBI and Justice Department officials misused their authority to obtain a surveillance order on Carter Page, a former Trump campaign adviser.
It’s about time the Obama administration and those in it paid the price for all their shenanigans. Personally, I hope all those involved including Yates, Mueller, Comey, Rosenstein, Page and Strzok and others all rot in jail. It’s time to let the Americans know that just because you are employed and work in the “high levels” of government that does not excuse you from the law. No one is about the law.

I can’t wait to see Trump’s next move in his game of “3-D chess”!
You see, it only looks like Trump is The Worst Negotiator God Ever Created. Instead of telling Democrats, “I won’t even talk about DACA until we have the border wall,” Trump has repeatedly given up the wall, aka The Central Promise of His Campaign, Without Which He Would Not Be in the White House.
He has now signed a spending bill that, if it actually did what it claims to do, prohibits him from building the wall, hiring any new ICE agents capable of making arrests, and building any new detention facilities for illegal aliens.
The strange thing is, as commander in chief, he doesn’t need congressional authority to do any of these things. But he obviously doesn’t know that.
Why? BECAUSE HE’S PLAYING 3-D CHESS!
Instead of making even a fake effort and forcing Democrats to get up off the couch to vote against the wall, Trump cleverly leapt to the front of the anti-Trump parade and pretended it was all his idea.
I told Sen. Schumer: I WANT AMNESTY! I was very clear! Look at him, running around like a loser doing my bidding.
Trump’s main response to a bill that actively prohibits him from keeping his central campaign promise was to denounce Congress for not sending him a bill legalizing “Dreamers.” Which also breaks a campaign promise.
It’s all part of the act, you fools! Trump is making the Democrats think that, even though they don’t have the House, the Senate or the White House, he needs Chuck Schumer’s permission before moving a muscle.
Carefully observe the master. He gives up everything and — in exchange — gets NOTHING. See?
The easy thing to do would be to say, There’s no way any amnesty happens until the wall is complete. Anybody could do that. But we didn’t elect just anybody.
We elected the guy whose name is on the cover of “The Art of the Deal.” Sure, he didn’t write it — and probably didn’t read it — but Trump must have heard about some of the trite advice it contains.
This shows what a master strategist Trump is. He throws out the rulebook! You know what else, suckers? Now he can put out a paperback edition with a new chapter, How to Give Up Everything in Return for Nothing.
The wins are already rolling in. Guess who’s suddenly dying to negotiate with Trump? That’s right: Kim Jong Un. One look at how Trump negotiates and Kim couldn’t wait to sit down with him.
Trump took office with the most precious gift any president could ever ask for: winning the White House with ZERO support from Wall Street. But instead of calling in the big banks and saying, Welcome to hell! Trump checkmated them by spending his first 15 months in office cravenly begging for their approval.
The expression “dance with the one who brung you” is old paradigm thinking. This is Trump Thinking.
The Republican Brain Trust sneered at Trump throughout the 2016 campaign, certain that they were in no danger from this ridiculous creature.
And damned if he didn’t win.
After that, Trump could have summoned Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan to the Oval Office and demanded that they show him their testicles. Instead, he became their water boy.
Doing Sen. McConnell’s bidding, he endorsed Luther Strange in Alabama, instead of the Trumpian candidate, Mo Brooks. That resulted in a gigantically embarrassing loss, so, naturally, he continued to do whatever McConnell said.
You think Trump doesn’t know exactly what he’s doing? That’s another new chapter for “The Art of the Deal”! (Ignore People Whose Advice Has Been Good; Hire People Whose Advice Has Been Catastrophic.)
Following the McConnell/Ryan playbook, Trump cut taxes (which is vitally important to Americans who don’t have jobs and whose communities are overrun with heroin) and expanded the bloated, wasteful defense budget. (The permanent-war wing of the GOP LOVES him now!)
Thanks to Trump’s 3-D chess, he may well be in line for an endorsement not only from Boeing, but also from the powerhouse Bush family.
When a Republican House and Republican Senate deliver a spending bill to Trump that prevents him from putting so much as a rickety fence on more than 33 miles of the border, I think it’s safe to say that not only do congressional Republicans not fear Trump, they’re laughing at him.
3-D chess, baby! Trump has lured Republicans right into his trap.
Obviously, a blue wave this fall is much more likely now. That’s the plan, morons.
Just wait and see how they like it when the GOP gets wiped out in the midterms. Sure, we’ll get all the heinous PC policies we would have gotten under Hillary. But Trump is thinking three moves ahead. He could make history by being only the third president ever impeached.
Top that, Obama!
Only a chump would complain about Trump cheerfully doing a 180 on everything he campaigned for. If Trump voters are upset, it’s on them, not on him.
I was there! At every single rally during the campaign, Trump would whip the crowd into a frenzy over the wall, deporting illegals and no more “stupid wars” — but he was always VERY careful to end his speeches by saying:
Unless, of course, anyone who represents conventional Republican thinking disagrees, in which case, I will do none of this.
I can’t wait to see what comes next!
Just hang on to your hats, because while you’re all playing checkers, Trump is playing 3-D chess.
(NOTE: If I am wrong and President Trump ever builds the wall, I will apologize profusely, return to calling him “the Emperor God” and throw a fabulous party at the grand opening of the completed wall.)

According to the Des Moines Register, Iowa state legislators pushed through a resolution earlier this month that supporters hope will result in a ballot measure allowing citizens to vote for a “right to bear arms” to be added to the Iowa Constitution.
Lawmakers in the state House and Senate voiced their opinions on the resolution during periods of intense debate prior to votes by both chambers to advance the legislation. According to the language included in the resolution, the state “affirms and recognizes” the constitutional right to bear arms.
A GOP backer in the Senate, however, said it is up to the voters to determine if the amendment goes too far.
“I trust the Iowa voter,” said state Sen. Brad Zaun. “They are going to tell us if they don’t like the language in front of us. They are going to tell us how important their Second Amendment rights are.”
As Democrat state Sen. Tony Bisignano said, the fear among some opponents is that supporters are looking at the Second Amendment in absolute terms and without critical context.
“Can you envision what arms will look like in 150 years?” he asked. “What we have today for arms is beyond their imagination.”
One Democrat critic called his Republican colleagues “tone deaf” in pushing a resolution he said made it seem as though they were preparing for a “zombie apocalypse.”
State Sen. Matt McCoy said that lawmakers “haven’t even figured out how to secure our school buildings yet” and should not be pursuing constitutional amendments further expanding gun rights.
A Republican counterpart, however, seemed to link demographics to gun violence rather than access to firearms.
“In the big majority of counties around the United States, there are no murders, or maybe one in a given year,” said state Sen. Julian Garrett. “It is only in concentrated areas where we have these murders.”
In the case multiple school shootings, however, including the Feb. 14 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland County, killers have attacked in typically safe communities.

“The Trump Administration’s reckless decision to suddenly abandon nearly 70 years of practice by demanding to know the citizenship status of each resident counted … will create an environment of fear and distrust in immigrant communities that would make impossible both an accurate Census and the fair distribution of federal tax dollars,” Schneiderman said in a statement.
The U.S. Commerce Department announced Monday that the citizenship question would be included, fulfilling a request by the Department of Justice for better enforcement of the Voting Rights Act, which protects minority voting rights. Mainstream media organizations ABC and NBC claimed that the last time the census asked participants about U.S. citizenship was in 1950. But the question was asked as recently as 2000 and was also asked in 1990 and 1980.
New York joins California in opposition to the citizenship question. California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, D, blasted the return to an old policy as anti-immigrant.
“This request is an extraordinary attempt by the Trump administration to hijack the 2020 census for political purposes,” Becerra wrote in an op-ed with California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, D. “Since the first day of his presidential campaign and through his first year in office, President Trump has targeted immigrants: vilifying them and attempting to exclude them from the country.”
Democrats in California and New York benefit politically from the status quo. Seats in the House of Representatives are apportioned to states by total population. The states with the biggest illegal immigrant populations benefit by having extra seats in the House, reflecting the populations of their districts, even though American political representation is reserved for citizenship and illegal immigrants cannot vote in federal elections. California would lose five seats in the House and New York would lose one were the census to stop counting illegal immigrants or differentiate them from citizens.

The journey will be difficult. The road will be long. I face this challenge with profound humility, and knowledge of my own limitations. But I also face it with limitless faith in the capacity of the American people.

Obama used his pen and phone to draw red lines and subsidize the failing solar industries and to flood the military with new rabidly pro-LGBTQ personnel and guidelines, to invite men who called themselves women into the bathrooms with your wives and daughters.
Obama ran on “Hope and Change.”
Imagine that. We all hoped he would change, but he did not. Barry’s legacy was a behemoth health care system which compelled people to sign up or be penalized. Hmmm. The Mafia did that back in the day…didn’t the U.S. purge itself of racketeering decades ago?
Obama’s “accomplishments” are too numerous to list: the but Hope and Change America got from #44 was not what any but an avowed Marxist pervert ever wanted.
Our current president is far from perfect, but he does love America and Americans. Trump is not booking apology tours and kissing up to baby-killing Planned Parenthood. #45 reveres the U.S. Constitution, and honors our military.
Finally, maybe, just maybe, the millions of patriots who love America and her Constitution can hope for real change. Constitutional change that supports the dreams and aspirations of hard-working, LEGAL American citizens.

However, there was one question that was never seriously asked of the speakers or the marchers: What specific pieces of legislation do you want to see passed that will curb gun violence?
The Daily Caller spent four hours at the march on Saturday asking dozens of protesters what specific legislation they wanted to see passed to end gun violence. The answers almost exclusively involved banning certain weapons and confiscating others.

Publications have editors. Real ones. As in, those whose experience is commensurate with the paper, magazine or website they’re working for. They’re not just there to make sure their staff don’t “wreite like” th1s. Their function is edit for style, to check facts, to see if arguments cohere. For this, they’re paid handsomely. (Well, by the standards of the industry, anyhow.)
I mention this all because on Friday, the U.S. edition of The Guardian allowed the staff of the Eagle Eye — the official newspaper of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, site of one of the most horrific acts of evil we’ve witnessed on school grounds in many a year — essentially to write and edit their own piece detailing their recommendations to “halt mass shootings.” 
It’s worth noting that the paper’s parent publication, the London Guardian, is easily the most liberal mainstream publication in Great Britain. That certainly explains why they would engage in an experiment like this.
And, common sense unfortunately dictated exactly how the experiment went. The piece — which I’m sure did very well in terms of readership, given the quasi-celebrity nature of the authors and the fact that it was published a day before the March for Our Lives — is a farrago of unresearched errors, logical fallacies and appeals to emotion so threadbare and maudlin you wish that a real editor would have saved them from themselves.
Here are a few “highlights” from the piece, titled “Our manifesto to fix America’s gun laws.”
“We have a unique platform not only as student journalists, but also as survivors of a mass shooting. We are firsthand witnesses to the kind of devastation that gross incompetence and political inaction can produce.”
This is in the introduction and it sets the tone for what’s to come. I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: neither surviving a mass shooting nor being a student journalist makes you an expert on either firearms or public policy.
In the latter department, it shows in this very sentence: the movement they are supporting (and the manifesto they wrote) wishes to place more — not less — power in the hands of those whose gross incompetence and political inaction caused the Parkland shooting in the first place.
“Ban semi-automatic weapons that fire high-velocity rounds: Civilians shouldn’t have access to the same weapons that soldiers do. That’s a gross misuse of the second amendment. (sic) These weapons were designed for dealing death: not to animals or targets, but to other human beings. The fact that they can be bought by the public does not promote domestic tranquility. Rather, their availability puts us into the kind of danger faced by men and women trapped in war zones.
“This situation reflects a failure of our government. It must be corrected to ensure the safety of those guaranteed the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
This is the kind of misinformation from which an actual editor — one who works for The Guardian as opposed to the Eagle Eye — would have saved these individuals. Hunting rounds available to the general public already fire at higher velocity than some ammunition used in military rifles, because hunters often shoot at moving targets.
So, in fact, they were mostly designed for “dealing death” to animals. They’re often for varmint control. However, in a mass shooting situation, they would actually have little practical advantage over most other guns (but more about this later).
While there may be the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in the Declaration of Independence, there is also the right to bear arms (which “shall not be infringed upon”) in the Constitution. Nowhere in these documents, it must be noted, is the promotion of “domestic tranquility” (again: this kind of clubfooted phraseology is why you let professionals edit your work) guaranteed.
The most sadly laughable line, however, is the part about “a failure of our government.” The government has failed in so many ways in Parkland, but in ways where handing more power over to them would only exacerbate the problem. I know these students write and edit a newspaper; perhaps they should read a few, as well.
“Ban accessories that simulate automatic weapons: High-capacity magazines played a huge role in the shooting at our school. In only 10 minutes, 17 people were killed, and 17 others were injured. This is unacceptable.
“That’s why we believe that bump stocks, high-capacity magazines and similar accessories that simulate the effect of military-grade automatic weapons should be banned.
“In the 2017 shooting in Las Vegas, 58 people were killed and 851 others were injured. The gunman’s use of bump stocks enabled vast numbers of people to be hurt while gathered in one of the most iconic cities in America. If it can happen there, it can happen anywhere. That’s why action must be taken to take these accessories off the market.”
Let’s start here with the idea that bump stocks “simulate automatic weapons.” They allow weapons to fire more rapidly — and very inaccurately. In the case of Las Vegas, it was a unique situation where accuracy didn’t matter to the gunman because of the press of the crowd into which he was firing. In most mass shootings, bump stocks would be useless. They also do not “simulate the effect of military-grade automatic weapons.”
As for the high-capacity magazines, this is again something that anyone familiar with guns would know to be useless. In a soft-target situation like a school where security either cannot or refuses to engage a shooter, a handgun with a regular magazine would be more than enough to inflict the kind of damage the shooter did, irrespective of the size of the magazine. And, if targets were hardened, the size of the magazine wouldn’t matter; a student would likely be either stopped or deterred before it made a significant difference.
Nowhere is evidence provided for any of their claims in this department, likely because none exists.
Oh, and speaking of security:
“Increase funding for school security: We believe that schools should be given sufficient funds for school security and resource officers to protect and secure the entire campus. As a school of over 3,000 students, teachers and faculty, Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school (sic) was only supplied funds to hire one on-campus armed resource officer by the state.
“Without backup, this officer’s hesitation proved to be disastrous and allowed for the senseless deaths of people who were killed on the third floor of the 1200 building. Though this idea has been proposed in the past, these funds should not be appropriated from the already scarce funding for public education. Governments should find resources to secure the millions of children that attend public schools without taking away from the quality of education that is offered at these institutions.”
Given the scarce resources, you mean a plan like, I don’t know, training and arming already-extant faculty members at your institution to back up armed resource officers? Like the president proposed? Probably not, given that one of the soi disant leaders of Stoneman Douglas gun control posse (who, in fairness, is not an editorial member of the Eagle Eye) has called that idea “stupid.”
“Allow the CDC to make recommendations for gun reform: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention should be allowed to conduct research on the dangers of gun violence. The fact that they are currently prohibited from doing so undermines the first amendment.(sic) It also violates the rights of the American people.
“It is hypocritical to rally people to protect the second amendment, (sic) while remaining silent on the ways that blocking research violates one of our most basic constitutional freedoms.”
At least someone from The Guardian should have had the basic kindness to explain how incoherent this would sound. The Centers for Disease Control is a government organization. If it is commissioned by the government to provide gun death research — and the omnibus bill authorizes that — it can conduct said research. It would then present its findings.
Nowhere is a taxpayer-funded organization granted the right to officially opine on any issue without legislation or regulations that prompt it, under the First Amendment. This would be patently absurd — and, by the way, since the CDC is currently headed up by an appointee of the Trump administration, I seriously doubt the editorial members of the Eagle Eye would exactly be in favor of the CDC somehow utilizing the First Amendment to remark on how they feel about the Second Amendment.
Other arguments that you may have heard before that are included in the piece are the proposal to raise the minimum age for firearm purchases from 18 to 21, greater sharing of mental health information between mental health care providers and law enforcement, the “gun show loophole” argument and calls for more stringent background checks.
No particularly new points were contributed to the discussion and none of the arguments were rendered more astutely than they have heretofore been. There is no unique perspective brought to anything (aside from the idea that government agencies ought to have autonomous First Amendment rights to speak however they want), and certainly no particular view expressed in the article is unique to an individual who has survived a mass shooting.
You may feel that I am being inordinately cruel and unjust by attacking what these students have written. They are,
after all, survivors of an unspeakable tragedy. They are also public figures and have made themselves so by their decision to lecture Americans on what constitutional and legal rights they should and should not have. The expectation that those they have chosen to lecture ought to sit down and stay silent ignore the fact that the media is using these teenagers as cultural satraps to weave a proxy narrative of their own.
If the media is going to engage in such puppetry, the very least they could do is give these kids a decent editor.

The perennial gun-control debate in America did not begin here. The same arguments for and against were made in the 1920s in the chaos of Germany’s Weimar Republic, which opted for gun registration. Law-abiding persons complied with the law, but the Communists and Nazis committing acts of political violence did not.
In 1931, Weimar authorities discovered plans for a Nazi takeover in which Jews would be denied food and persons refusing to surrender their guns within 24 hours would be executed.
They were written by Werner Best, a future Gestapo official. In reaction to such threats, the government authorized the registration of all firearms and the confiscation thereof, if required for “public safety.” The interior minister warned that the records must not fall into the hands of any extremist group.
In 1933, the ultimate extremist group, led by Adolf Hitler, seized power and used the records to identify, disarm, and attack political opponents and Jews. Constitutional rights were suspended, and mass searches for and seizures of guns and dissident publications ensued.
Police revoked gun licenses of Social Democrats and others who were not “politically reliable.”

While appearing on “Fox and Friends,” the politician-turned-commentator addressed the recent demonstrations that are supposedly about stopping violence, but have become essentially anti-Second Amendment rallies where law-abiding gun owners are vilified for the actions of one criminal.
“I salute these students for their passion and their energy, and for their interest in helping to shape public policy,” Huckabee began, extending an olive branch to the young people protesting. “But I would say this to them: Emotion is a terrible substitute for truth.“ March 25, 2018
“It is a terrible substitute for facts,” Huck continued. “And they’ve been used, by believing that if they just ban a certain type of firearm, that things are going to be better.”
That wasn’t just the former governor’s opinion. A vast amount of evidence backs up the view that the left’s “solutions” — many of which have already been tried — would do nothing to actually stop criminals.
“Here’s the facts: Five times more people are killed in America by knives… than they are by rifles,” Huckabee explained.
The most recent FBI data shows that in 2016, there were 374 murders committed using rifles in the entire United States. That includes so-called “assault rifles.” However, a stunning 1,604 murders were committed using “knives or cutting weapons.”
“It’s also true that over 86 percent of the 20,000 police chiefs and sheriffs in America do not support repealing concealed carry, but rather rather support (gun ownership),” Mike Huckabee went on. “And they don’t support more gun control methods.”
There’s a good reason for that: As concealed carry has become more common in America, the country has become more safe.
As we’ve previously reported, there was an amazing 215 percent increase in concealed carry permits between 2007 and 2015. During the same time period, there was a 14 percent decrease in the murder rate. In fact, violent crime has been cut in half since about 1990, yet the media constantly acts as if violence is spiraling out of control.
Mike Huckabee’s primary point is so good, it must be repeated: “Emotion is a terrible substitute for truth.”
The left and the mainstream media seem to be purposely burying facts or even outright lying about statistics in order to promote an agenda.
American schools are actually some of the safest places in the country. Contrary to the narrative, mass shootings in schools have not be dramatically increasing in recent years. Students have a higher probability of being killed riding their bikes or walking to school than by a school shooter.
Huck’s line about emotion over truth is an apt summary of not only the current push against lawful gun ownership, but also almost all of liberalism. One of the hallmarks of being responsible adults is using logic and critical thinking over fear-based reaction and hysteria.
The next time you see a news headline or hear a statement from a protester, ask yourself: “Is this based on reasoned logic and truth, or all emotion?” That’s an incredibly useful tool to decide which side of an issue to stand on… and in today’s world, detecting the truth is more important than ever.
