Lately I have been greatly annoyed at the fact that I find myself so very angry. That is not my personality, nor is it the way I want to be perceived. These attitudes have permeated my sleep giving me horrible dreams that is robbing me of rest. I find myself tense and short-tempered; I don’t like myself right now, and neither does anyone else. I’ve prayed about it, and I believe I have been given some answers.
I am a news junkie. I know many people who are. I also take my relationship with God very seriously, without being religious. I have found to be true that a Believer can live in this world successfully as long as they are not so heavenly minded they are of no earthly good. I have also found to be true that successful relationship living with the Triune God is based on living from the inside out. So, why am I so angry?
For those that don’t take the news seriously, what is happening in the world around us does not affect you. The contradictions, lies, deceit, political manipulations, propaganda news from the left designed to bred hate, form “mind-numbed robotic thinkers” and the looming dangers from the War or Terror don’t affect casual observers. That could be a source of what’s making me angry. However, living with your head in the sand means you are what the World wants; an easy prey.
So, why am I so angry? The more I analyze it, the clearer the answer becomes. Ready? Here it is; “TALK-TALK-TALK. ALL I HEAR IS JUST TALK.” I have learned many lessons in life and one of the most important is that talking about something never solves the problem. Someone actually has to DO something. That means getting up off our well cushioned “apathy”, form a plan of action, make sure it’s moral, legal and not fattening, and then put that plan into action. Simple? Maybe that why it hasn’t been done yet.
Back in the late 70’s, early 80’s, is when my wife and I became politically aware. We had actually voted for Jimmy Carter, and were personal recipients of his disastrous tax and spend policies. This time we took our time, did our own research, and got busy. Yes, we became Reagan Democrats (four years later we switched parties). We also became part of a Grass Roots group started in our church.
The first meeting had over 200 people in attendance. First action; Demonstrate against abortion. Great turn out in multiple locations. Successful.
The next meeting, 20 people showed up. Within one year the group consisted of one couple, and me. The well-meaning Christians that was eager to make a difference found out that making that difference takes work, and a lot of it. Since those times, that group of people labeled by the main stream press as, “The Sleeping Giant” (referring to “the Church” which was made up of Evangelical Christians), has gone back to sleep. Each election the “Sleeping Giant” has gone deeper into sleep, and fewer and fewer show up. Looking at what we have now and what is happening to our economy and rights demonstrates that being a sluggard is NOT the right answer.
It’s still not too late. We can still wake that “Giant” up again. We can still fight to save our country, rights and freedoms. In 2 Chronicles 7:14 … “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (NIV)
God said, “IF”. That means a deliberate act of the will to make the quality decision to act on what He tells us to do. “My People” distinguishes His followers from all other people on the planet. “Will humble themselves”; that’s where we lose most Christians. Humbling ourselves is the toughest thing to do. It mans we have to actually say, “I’M WRONG. I DID IT MY WAY AND FAILED. YOUR WAY IS THE ONLY WAY. I REPENT, AND CHOOSE TO GO YOUR WAY. Please forgive me in Jesus Name, Amen”
“Pray – Seeking God’s Face”. Not our religion, not our politicians, not anyone, or anything else but God alone. “Turn from your wicked ways”. That is the next toughest step, to actually say, “My living standards that lust for the world and multiple compromises, is WRONG. I repent. I choose to live by Your standards. Please forgive me in Jesus Name. Amen.”
The last part is what we want, without doing the first part. That can never work. We have to stop thinking we can dictate to God. He, and only He, can change what is happening to our country, and world. God says, “Then (and only then – added by me) will I hear from Heaven, forgive your sins and heal your land.”
Doing. That’s the answer. Get up off our apathy, shake off the entanglements that keep us down, start making correct chooses and get to work, fighting to get our country back.
Hum. I’m not as angry anymore. It has been channeled into a positive direction. Sure feels better.
