Pension investments show teachers are willing to invest in the nation’s biggest gun and ammunition manufacturers
The issue of gun violence has focused teachers with renewed, emotional calls for gun control

Liberal teachers may claim they abhor guns, but their pension investments show they are willing to invest in the nation’s biggest gun and ammunition manufacturers, according to a review of teacher institutional investments by The Daily Caller News Foundation. The issue of gun violence has focused teachers across the country with renewed, emotional calls for gun control following the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., by alleged gunman 19-year old Nikolas Cruz. Seventeen were killed.

Despite teacher’s calls for gun control and a ban on semi-automatic rifles, teacher pension funds have invested for years in gun and ammunition companies such as Sturm, Ruger & Co.; Vista Outdoor; the Olin Corporation, which sells Winchester gun products; and American Outdoor Brands, which now manufacture Smith & Wesson weapons.

The four manufacturers produce a wide range of pistols, revolvers, shotguns, high-performance and semi-automatic AR rifles, silencers, range finders and scopes. AR-style rifles were used in the Florida shooting and 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut.

Teacher’s views on guns have been decidedly negative. A 2013 poll by the National Education Association (NEA) found 76 percent of NEA members “support a proposal to ban the sale and possession of military-style semi-automatic assault weapons to everyone except the police and military.”

The public fails to notice that teacher and public employee unions — even in progressive states such as New York and California — have invested in gun and ammunition companies. It has been lining the pockets of teachers upon retirement.

Left-wing unions are now turning wrath toward their own pension fund investments in the nation’s top firearm and ammunition manufacturers.

“We definitely don’t agree with our money being invested in those types of companies,” said Melissa Tomlinson, the assistant executive director of Badass Teachers Association, an activist teacher’s group representing 65,000 teachers. They have ties to the national American Federation of Teachers.

“We are in touch with unions to make sure our pension managers are responsibly looking at what our pensions are invested in,” Tomlinson told TheDCNF in an interview.

The Florida Education Association (FEA) is urging Florida Gov. Rick Scott, a Republican, to remove investments from gun manufacturers now in the Florida Retirement System Pension Plan. Their pension plan currently owns stock in Vista Outdoors; Sturm, Ruger & Co.; Smith & Wesson and Olin.

FEA President Joanne McCall said she hopes the money could be divested elsewhere in light of the Cruz shooting. “We would hope and encourage the governor and the cabinet to divest from those companies and place our money somewhere else,” McCall said, according to the Orlando Weekly.

However, some school fund managers are proud of their investment in guns and ammunition companies. David Bradley, a board member of the Texas Permanent School Fund, told TheDCNF the teachers who are upset about investment in gun companies “are a bunch of weenies.”

“We don’t kowtow to every special interest that wants us to divest. We’re in the business of making money for public education,” he told TheDCNF in an interview.

“If you’re a fiduciary, you’re responsible for investment returns, not to push my own personal agenda,” Bradley stated.

Teacher union pension investments from coast-to-coast have continued to buy stock in gun and ammunition companies despite the outrage expressed by many teachers following recent school shootings.

The California State Teachers’ Retirement System, one of the largest pension funds in the country, quietly liquidated its $2.7 million investment in Vista Outdoor Inc. last week, a CalSTRS spokeswoman told TheDCNF. Vista Outdoor is a company that produces arms and ammunition for hunters and the military. “The Shooting Sports segment includes pistol, rifle, rimfire, shotshell ammunition, primers, centerfire rifles, rimfire rifles, shotguns and range systems,” according to the company’s website.

The CalSTRS spokeswoman acknowledged the teacher’s group did not issue a press release or any other public statement about its divestment in the company. However, CalSTRS continues its investment in the Olin Corp., which makes ammunition, including small-caliber military ammunition, according to a CNBC report.

New York State Teachers Retirement System owns $1.3 million in Vista Outdoor and $2.6 million in Sturm Ruger. Sturm sells pistols, revolvers and rifles. It offers 16 different rifles, including those that are on the AR rifle semi-automatic platform.

“No decision has been made on divestment of gun stocks from our portfolios,” John Cardillo, the New York pension’s spokesman, told CNBC.

TIAFF, the “Teachers Insurance and Annuity Associates-College Retirement Equities Fund,” represents five million teachers and educators, and the fund invests $6 million in Vista Outdoor; Sturm, Ruger & Co. and Smith & Wesson, according to their institutional investment disclosures. A TIAFF spokeswoman defended the investments. “Our exposure to these companies is extraordinarily small and is confined to passive portfolios which track specific market indices, such as the Russell 2000,” the spokeswoman told TheDCNF in an email.

Katie Kaufmanis, a spokeswoman for the Public Employees Retirement Fund of Colorado, said the public employee union, which includes public school teachers, claimed their investments totaled $1.3 million and was invested in four “gun manufacturing-related companies” in indexed, passive portfolios. The investments include Vista Outdoor; Sturm, Ruger & Co. and Smith & Wesson.

Other teacher unions with firearm investments include Teachers’ Retirement System of the State of Kentucky and Texas Permanent School Fund.

“We don’t have a gun problem here in Texas,” said Bradley who, instead of running away from the investments, said he was proud of them. “The federal government goes in and declares schools to be ‘gun-free zones.’ Well the only one’s paying attention to the sign are law-abiding, rational people. It’s the ‘nut jobs’ who know if they walk in there, nobody’s going to challenge them.”

“If someone is armed, granted they might only have a 9 mm and this guy may have an AK-47 with hundreds of rounds,” Bradley added. “The reality is, though, you’ve changed the dynamic. He’s no longer going to be shooting innocent people. He’s going to go into self-protection mode to focus on who’s attacking him. So you do save lives,” he said.

The National Education Association did not reply to inquiries by TheDCNF.

EXCLUSIVE: YouTube Secretly Using SPLC To Police Videos

YouTube is getting help from the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center in its effort to identify extremist content.
YouTube’s “Trusted Flaggers” police the platform for so-called hate speech to terror-related content.
The SPLC has labeled pedestrian conservative groups as hate groups in the past.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is assisting YouTube in policing content on their platform, The Daily Caller has learned. The left-wing nonprofit — which has more recently come under fire for labeling legitimate conservative organizations as “hate groups” — is one of the more than 100 nongovernment organizations (NGOs) and government agencies in YouTube’s “Trusted Flaggers” program, a source with knowledge of the arrangement told TheDC.

The SPLC and other program members help police YouTube for extremist content, ranging from so-called hate speech to terrorist recruiting videos. All of the groups in the program have confidentiality agreements, a spokesperson for Google, YouTube’s parent company, previously told TheDC. A handful of YouTube’s “Trusted Flaggers,” including the Anti-Defamation League and No Hate Speech — a European organization focused on combatting intolerance — have gone public with their participation in the program. The vast majority of the groups in the program have remained hidden behind their confidentiality agreements.

The SPLC’s close involvement in policing content on YouTube is likely to cause consternation among conservatives who worry that they may not be treated fairly. The left-wing group has consistently labeled pedestrian conservative organizations as “hate groups” and has been directly tied to violence against conservatives in the past. Floyd Lee Corkins, who opened fire at the Family Research Center in 2012, said he chose the FRC for his act of violence because the SPLC listed them as a “hate group.”

It’s unclear when the SPLC joined YouTube’s “Trusted Flaggers” program. The program goes back to 2012 but exploded in size in recent years amid a Google push to increase regulation of the content on its platforms, which followed pressure from advertisers. Fifty of the 113 program members joined in 2017 as YouTube stepped up its content policing, YouTube public policy director Juniper Downs told a Senate committee in January.

Downs said the third-party groups work closely with YouTube’s employees to crack down on extremist content in two ways, both of which a Google spokesperson previously confirmed to TheDC.

First, the flaggers are equipped with digital tools allowing them to mass flag content for review by YouTube personnel. Second, the partner groups act as guides to YouTube’s content monitors and engineers designing the algorithms policing the video platform but may lack the expertise needed to tackle a given subject.

“We work with over 100 organizations as part of our Trusted Flagger program and we value the expertise these organizations bring to flagging content for review. All trusted flaggers attend a YouTube training to learn about our policies and enforcement processes. Videos flagged by trusted flaggers are reviewed by YouTube content moderators according to YouTube’s Community Guidelines. Content flagged by trusted flaggers is not automatically removed or subject to any differential policies than content flagged from other users,” said a YouTube spokesperson, who would not specifically comment on the SPLC’s participation in the program.

The SPLC did not return multiple voicemails and emails seeking comment.

The overwhelming majority of the content policing on Google and YouTube is carried out by algorithms. The algorithms make for an easy rebuttal against charges of political bias: it’s not us, it’s the algorithm. But actual people with actual biases write, test and monitor the algorithms.

As noted above, Google’s anonymous outside partners (such as the SPLC) work closely with the internal experts designing the algorithms. This close collaboration has upsides, Google’s representatives have said, such as in combatting terrorist propaganda on the platform.

But it also provides little transparency, forcing users to take Google’s word that they’re being treated fairly.

The SPLC has faced criticism for its cavalier definitions of “hate group” and “extremist.” The organization stoked controversy in 2015 by labeling Dr. Ben Carson, now the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), an anti-gay “extremist.” After a backlash, the SPLC reversed its ruling and apologized to Carson.

The organization faced a similarly intense backlash in 2016 for labeling Maajid Nawaz, a respected counter-extremism activist, an “anti-Muslim extremist.”

The Washington Examiner’s Emily Jashinsky noted last year that “the SPLC’s claim to objectivity is nothing less than fraudulent, a reality that informed observers of its practices from both the Left and Right accept.”

“The routine of debunking their supposedly objective classifications occurs like clockwork each time a major outlet makes the mistake of turning to them when reporting on the many conservative thinkers and nonprofits the group absurdly designates as hateful.”

The SPLC has faced tough criticisms not just from conservatives but from the mainstream press as well.

“At a time when the line between ‘hate group’ and mainstream politics is getting thinner and the need for productive civil discourse is growing more serious, fanning liberal fears, while a great opportunity for the SPLC, might be a problem for the nation,” Politico Magazine’s Ben Schreckinger wrote last year.

Bloomberg columnist Megan McArdle similarly noted last year that the SPLC commonly lumps in principled conservatives alongside actual racists and extremists and warned of the possibility that tech companies could rely on the SPLC’s misleading definitions.

“Given the increasing tendency of powerful tech companies to flex their muscle against hate groups,” she wrote, “we may see more and more institutions unwittingly turned into critics or censors, not just of Nazi propaganda, but also of fairly mainstream ideas.”

Trump Claims He Would’ve Run Into Parkland Massacre… Reports from ’91 Prove He Was Serious

After news broke that multiple officers failed to confront the gunman in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school shooting earlier this month, President Donald Trump called the handling of the situation by the sheriff’s office “disgusting.”

The president harshly criticized now-resigned sheriff’s deputy Scot Peterson for hiding as the shots rang out, calling him a “coward” who “certainly did a poor job.”

“I got to watch some deputy sheriffs performing this weekend. They weren’t exactly medal of honor winners. The way they performed was frankly disgusting,” Trump said at the White House on Monday.

Trump chastised the officers’ cowardice further, saying he would’ve run in the school to confront the shooter even without a weapon.

“I really believe I’d run in there even if I didn’t have a weapon, and I think most of the people in this room would’ve done that too,” Trump said. “But the way they performed was really a disgrace.”

A story from 1991 that has resurfaced reveals that Trump might actually have done what he claimed he would, according to The Daily Caller. On Nov. 18, 1991, The New York Daily News reported that Trump stopped a mugging that he had witnessed while riding in his limousine.

According to The Daily Caller, he was with his then-wife Marla Maples on their way a Paula Abdul concert when they came upon the mugging.

“Someone in the car looked over and said, ‘Gee look at that, it’s a mugging,’” Trump said to the Daily News. “I said to my driver to stop the car because it was brutal-looking.”

He got out of the car and approached “a big guy with a big bat” who delivered five or six “good whacks” before Trump arrived, according to his 1991 recount.

“The guy with the bat looked at me, and I said, ‘Look, you’ve gotta stop this. Put down the bat,’” he told the Daily News. “I guess he recognized me because he said, ‘Mr. Trump, I didn’t do anything wrong.’ I said, ‘How could you not do anything wrong when you’re whacking a guy with a bat?’ Then he ran away.”

One witness, Kathleen Romeo, disputed his tale.

“A lot of people were surprised that he got out to see what was happening,” she said. According to Romeo, the bat-wielder had already run off and Trump “just looked around and went back into his limo.”

However, an unidentified witness confirmed Trump’s story to the Daily News.

“There was a guy with a bat, hitting a guy over the head, and Trump yelled, ‘Put that bat down. What are you doing?’” the witness said. “The guy dropped the bat, came over and started talking to him.”

Developing: Broward County Sheriff Ordered Deputies Not to Arrest

Just when it seemed like the government incompetence surrounding the events leading up to the Parkland, Florida high school massacre couldn’t get any worse, new information reveals that political motivations and bad policy in the leadership at the sheriff’s office had a pivotal role in failing to prevent the shooting.

First, it was the FBI. A tip that outlined the shooter’s “gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting,” was given to the FBI only six weeks before the deadly massacre occurred, NBC reported. The FBI failed to follow up.

Then, it was local law enforcement. Multiple agents within the Broward County Sheriff’s department cowered in the face of danger, and waited outside the Stoneman Douglas high school as innocent students were killed inside.

And there’s more: According to CNN, “Records obtained from the sheriff’s office by CNN show the law enforcement agency received at least 45 calls for service relating to Cruz or his brother from 2008 to 2017, before the attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland on Feb. 14.”

So was it pure incompetence, or was something more sinister at play? It may have been both.

According to a report from RedState, a deeply embedded system of public corruption at the sheriff’s department may be to blame for the murderous shooter slipping right through the sheriff department’s fingers. As reported by CNN, dozens of calls were made to local law enforcement about Nickolas Cruz with descriptions such as “mentally ill person,” “child/elderly abuse,” “domestic disturbance,” “missing person,” and more. Most of those warning calls resulted in “no written report.”

What in the world would have motivated an “oversight” like that? According to RedState, it all comes back to Sheriff Israel.

First elected as sheriff in 2012, Israel’s run for re-election in 2016 was highly criticized and controversial, according to an August 2016 report from Sun Sentinel.

“Sheriff Scott Israel has hired from the ranks of his political supporters, building a community outreach wing his critics say doubles as a re-election team,” the Sentinel explained. “Israel’s opponents say he’s built a publicly funded political machine, paying back supporters with jobs and using them to keep him in office. They say the money could be better spent, particularly after the sheriff complained about not having enough funding to secure the county courthouse, where a murder suspect recently escaped.”

In other words, Israel rewarded his political supporters with high-paying cushy jobs within the sheriff’s office. The outreach manager position, for example, earned a $78,489 salary. That position was held by the husband of Israel’s campaign manager, the Sentinel reported.

So, a group of unqualified people filled the positions at the sheriff’s office. And we wonder why they failed to stop Nickolas Cruz?

It gets worse. An ominous foreshadowing of the deadly shooting was revealed in the form of a 2016 sheriff re-election campaign questionnaire. “Why are you running and what gives you an edge over your opponents?” the questionnaire asked Israel.

I am the incumbent Sheriff for the past four years, and a career law enforcement officer with over three decades in the profession. The results speak for themselves. As our sheriff, I successfully implemented new policies and approaches to public safety that sharply reduced violent crime and burglary rates – the sharpest declines in the entire State of Florida. My innovative initiatives also helped keep children in school and out of jail, greatly expanding the juvenile civil citation program and making issuance of civil citations mandatory for BSO deputies. I worked to combat gun violence by openly lobbying legislators to curtail Stand Your Ground, block open carry legislation, and block legislation allowing concealed guns on school campuses.

(Emphasis added.)

You read that right. Policies put into place within the sheriff’s department by Israel Scott discouraged arresting or expelling juveniles, apparently even if their behavior was violent or threatening.

Cruz had a history of violence at school and was never officially expelled. He had a history of violent behavior at home but was never arrested. And one day, he stormed into a school building and murdered 17 innocent people — but it was too late.

When pressed for answers on allegations about his alleged public corruption, Israel deflected. “Lions don’t care about the opinions of sheep,” he reportedly said at the time.

And lions apparently care more about their own interests than the lives of those they swore to protect.

Sexual Horror in New Blasphemy Case

Despite an ordered media blackout by authorities, a new blasphemy case in Pakistan has gained worldwide attention for the violent and sexual abuse of those accused at the hands of their government interrogators.

Two young Christian men, Patras Masih, 18, and his cousin, Sajid Masih 24, were accused of sharing an image on Facebook considered sacrilegious by Muslims.

As word got out, a mob made up of members of the extremist Islamist political party, Tehreek-e-Labiak Ya Rasool Allah (TLK), blocked all entrances to Lahore and demanded Patras (accused of being the main perpetrator) be beheaded. Extremists also congregated in front of Patras’ home, waiting to lynch him.

Armed with gasoline, the mob threatened to burn down the 1,500 Christian houses in the area, causing some 1,000 Christians to flee. The police, with the help of other law enforcement agencies, were able to disperse the crowd after promising the most severe blasphemy charges would be levied against Patras. Those charges carry a mandatory death sentence.

In 2016, a similar charge was made against a Christian man, Nabeel Masih, who was accused of “liking a Facebook post seemed insulting to Islam.” Such an “insult” falls under the blasphemy law that carries a punishment of 10 years in prison. However, because of the demands of a violent mob, he was charged with the most severe form of blasphemy as well.

Police officers arrested Patras and Sajid, but their interrogation was conducted not only by the police and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officers, but a large number of TLK party officials, who mainly served to scream at the young men.

During the investigation, Sajid suddenly jumped out the window of the multi-storied building, a fall which broke his legs and jaw and left him in critical condition.

Although he was not expected to live, after a number of hours, he regained consciousness and released a video statement detailing the harrowing treatment he and his cousin received at the hands of their interrogators.

On the video (see below), Sajid related:

“[The FIA officers] demanded my attendance at their headquarters to check my mobile phone.

“They used this pretext to take me to a bathroom where they started to beat me.

“They confiscated my mobile phone as part of their investigation, checked it and then started beating me again.

“I asked why they were beating me, what have I done that was wrong? They started roundly beating me again and told me they were hitting me because I was the ‘cousin of that boy’ [Patras].

“They told us to insult each other by using the word laanti (men under a curse). My frightened young cousin complied under great duress.

“They then asked me to remove my cousin’s trousers and perform oral sex on him. I refused outright…[which] made them angry. They then started shouting loudly at both of us. I saw a window in the room and quickly jumped out of it.

“After this, [the FIA officers] downstairs asked why I had jumped from the window, at the time I was semi-conscious. But I could hear everything.

“Khalid Saeed [the FIA sub-Inspector] took me there [to FIA headquarters]. No evidence of any crime was found on my phone”

After his statement, an investigation into the violence and sexual abuse during the investigation was launched by the federal minister for the Interior Department, although Pakistani’s Christians hold little faith in such an inquiry.

In addition, a separate police case was registered against Sajid for attempting to commit suicide.

On the instructions of the Pakistani government, the media did not cover this atrocity due to tensions with the United States, which has put Pakistan on a special watch list for increasing violence against religious minorities in the country.

Also, there is fear that Pakistan could be included in FATF (Financial Action Task Force) black or grey list for money laundering and supporting extremist organizations.

Further, the government fears reprisals by the European Union, which is not eager to renew Pakistan’s GPS-plus status (Generalized System of Preferences) for free trade to EU countries unless Asia Bibi, a Christian blasphemy victim suffering in Pakistan jail for the last eight years and sentenced to death, is released.

It is time for the international community to stand with Pakistan’s religious minorities. Pressures such as these can be effective in fighting Pakistan’s archaic and discriminatory blasphemy laws.

While one American ISIS wannabe was extradited from Tunisia back to the U.S. to face terrorism charges and another from Maryland stated he planned to attack federal buildings in Baltimore, the U.S. revealed its latest plans to fight the international aspirations of ISIS:

The State Department named seven ISIS-affiliated groups as Foreign Terrorist Organizations and two ISIS-affiliated leaders as Specially Designated Global Terrorists. The groups hail from West Africa, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Somalia and Egypt.The individuals are two followers of ISIS’ self-styled “caliph” Abu Bakr-al-Baghdadi in Africa: Mahad Moalim, the deputy leader of the ISIS-affiliate in Somalia, and Abu Musab al-Barnawi, an ISIS leader in West Africa.“These designations target key ISIS-affiliated groups and leaders outside its fallen caliphate in Iraq and Syria,” said a representative from the State Department. “Today’s actions are a critical step in degrading ISIS’s global network and denying its affiliates the resources they need to plan and carry out terrorist attacks.”
Among other consequences of these designation are that all property and interests in property of the designees are blocked. U.S. citizens are also prohibited from engaging in any transactions with them.
The State Department, along with INTERPOL and the International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law, is holding an international conference on “Mobilizing Law Enforcement Efforts to Defeat ISIS” in Washington, D.C. February 27-28. 2018. Attending are senior-level U.S. justice and law enforcement officials along with their counterparts from close to 90 countries and organizations.The purpose of the conference is to address the international threat posed by the defeat of the “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria. State Department officials say the conference “will build on our existing strategy and lay the foundation for the next phase in our effort as we work to confront the evolving ISIS threat.”
In addition to fighting ISIS, the U.S. is also focusing its efforts to counter the threats posed by Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump recently called the leaders of the Gulf States, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates, to thank them for suggesting ways that the Gulf States “can better counter Iranian destabilizing activities and defeat terrorists and extremists.”Both crown princes are planning visits to the U.S. this spring for meetings with Trump.

Meanwhile, ISIS is urging its followers to carry out lone wolf vehicular attacks in the West in its latest propaganda poster released through its media outlets. “Hit them with a truck; kill them all” screams the poster. The words are set in black and red on top of an image of a large and ominous truck splattered with blood.

The Left has never met a gun control law they didn’t love, which only proves their abysmal ignorance of America’s history and the U.S. Constitution. Granted, the Constitution is not the Bible, but you better believe it was written by men who deeply respected and lived by the principles of that inspired book.

Progressives — aka Socialists (aka Communist apprentices) — enact public policy with rampant disregard for our Constitution and founding documents. You can bet Lefties are salivating over the opportunity to not only ban AR-15s, but to repeal the Second Amendment altogether. Wouldn’t you just love to survey a gaggle of millennials, Gen-Xers and Gen-Zers on the street concerning the reasoning behind the Second Amendment? How many do you suppose even know who King George, the original Beastie Boy, was? How many even know that firearms, undergirded by Providence, secured our liberty in the first place?

I am sure as can be that the average government-schooled young person could not quote the Second Amendment, which certainly protects the First.

How dumb are the gun grabbers? They’ll tell you the Second Amendment was written about only the regularized Army. But militia members and other colonialists often had rifles, which were superior to the Army’s muskets.

You’ll hear the nonsense about gun ownership being all about hunting and home protection. Well, that’s certainly our right, to provide sustenance and protection for ourselves and our loved ones.

But the primary reason for including the Second Amendment was as a safeguard against tyranny, such as the colonials fought off in King George.

Well, what do you expect of the numbskulls like Dianne Feinstein who believed mags are disposable. Uh hum. Okay Dianne.

And never mind that most of these Leftist politicians have security detail which is armed to the teeth.

So yea. It is foolish to advocate for gun-free zones, aka Killing Zones. Who is it that obeys such laws? Law-abiding citizens. Ne’er-do-wells could care less about the law.

Teachers qualified and trained to conceal carry should carry. Church members and pastors trained to conceal carry should carry. In fact, any law-abiding citizen (think the more than 5 million NRA members and the over 1.5 million Gun Owners of America members) that is qualified and trained should carry.

And signs just like this would be a mighty powerful deterrent for the sniveling cowards who would do evil acts of violence!

Perhaps California Democrats haven’t realized how deeply their leftist party mates are committed

One wonders what it will take for patriotic Democrats to recognize just how far their acquiescence to their Party’s leftists – Socialist agenda has contributed to transforming California into the Fascist State it now is.

A young man went to seek an important position at a large printing company. He passed the initial interview and was going to meet the director for the final interview. The director saw his resume, it was excellent. And asked,’

“Have you received a scholarship for school?” The boy replied, “No”.
‘It was your father who paid for your studies? ” Yes.’ He replied.
‘Where does your father work? ‘ ‘My father is a Blacksmith’

The Director asked the young man to show him his hands.
The young man showed a pair of hands soft and perfect.
‘Have you ever helped your parents at their job? ‘
‘Never, my parents always wanted me to study and read more books. Besides, he can do the job better than me.

The director said:
‘I have got a request: When you go home today, go and wash the hands of your father and then come see me tomorrow morning.’

The young man felt his chance to get the job was high.

When he returned to his house he asked his father if he would allow him to wash his hands.

His father felt strange, happy, but with mixed feelings and showed his hands to his son. The young man washed his hands, little by little. It was the first time that he noticed his father’s hands were wrinkled and they had so many scars. Some bruises were so painful that his skin shuddered when he touched them.

This was the first time that the young man recognized what it meant for this pair of hands to work every day to be able to pay for his studies. The bruises on the hands were the price that his father payed for his education, his school activities and his future.

After cleaning his father’s hands the young man stood in silence and began to tidy and clean up the workshop. That night, father and son talked for a long time.

The next morning, the young man went to the office of the director.
The Director noticed the tears in the eyes of the young man when He asked him,

‘Can you tell me what you did and what you learned yesterday at your house?’
The boy replied: ‘I washed my father’s hands and when I finished I stayed and cleaned his workshop.’

‘Now I know what it is to appreciate and recognize that without my parents, I would not be who I am today. By helping my father I now realize how difficult and hard it is to do something on my own. I have come to appreciate the importance and the value in helping my family.

The director said, “This is what I look for in my people. I want to hire someone who can appreciate the help of others, a person who knows the hardship others go through to accomplish things, and a person who realizes that money is not his only goal in life”.

‘You are hired’.

A child that has been coddled, protected and given everything he or she wants, develops a mentality of “I have the right” and will always put himself or herself first, ignoring the efforts of parents, family and friends. If we are this type of protective parent are we really showing love or are we helping to destroy our children?

You can give your child their own room in a big house, good food, a computer, tablet, cell phone, and a big screen TV, but when you’re washing the floor or painting a wall, children need to experience that too.

After eating, have them wash the dishes with their brothers and sisters, let them fold laundry or cook with you, pull weeds or mow the lawn. You are not doing this because you are poor and can’t afford help. You are doing this because you love them and want them to understand certain things about life.

Children need to learn to appreciate the amount of effort it takes to do a job right. They need to experience the difficulties in life that people must overcome to be successful and they must learn about failure to be able to succeed.

Children must also learn how to work and play with others and that they will not always win, but they can always work harder to reach their goals. If they’ve done their best, then they can take pride in all the effort they put forth.

Comparing ISIS and the NRA

A media storm ensued last weekend after filmmaker Michael Moore called the National Rifle Association (NRA) a terrorist organization worse than ISIS.

Moore tweeted, “The NRA is a terrorist organization. The media should speak of the NRA in the same way they do ISIS.” Moore was reacting to the shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida that left 17 dead.

While Clarion Project does not profess to have expertise (or even an opinion) on the issue of gun control, what we can tell you is what ISIS has been up to just in the last few days:

After claiming responsibility for an attack on a church last week in Dagestan that killed five women, ISIS published a letter urging its followers to kidnap and murder Christians in “Russian-occupied” areas. The letter was titled: “Strike Their Necks and Strike Each One of Their Sons.”
Before beheading hostages in the Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp in Syria, one of the ISIS executioners declared, “From the land of Yarmouk, we have told you, don’t get involved in our war. An “army” of close to 1,000 jihadi brides is expected to return to Europe as ISIS suffers more and more defeats in their self-declared caliphate in Syria and Iraq. European authorities fear these women, along with their children, were trained as terror assets as per ISIS’ philosophy of women taking “more active roles” in jihad. In addition, an estimated 30 percent of the 5,000 ISIS foreign fighters from Europe are believed to have returned to their countries of origin.
A prominent British couple is believed to have been kidnapped and murdered by an ISIS cell in South Africa.
A former police officer from Fairfax, Virginia, Nicholas Young, 38, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for providing material support to ISIS. Virginia has been a hotbed of ISIS activity in the U.S.

An Army veteran armed with an AR-15 and a handgun stood guard outside a nearby Fort Wayne, Indiana, high school Monday.

WANE reports that Mark Cowan, a member of Oath Keepers, “found a spot off of school grounds, but close enough to keep an eye on people going in and out of the high school.” He has talked to police and the high school’s resource officer and says he plans to stand guard until the school adopts “additional safety measures.”

Fort Wayne Community Schools released a statement about Cowan’s decision to guard the school while armed:

We take the security of our schools very seriously. We understand he has a right to be out there, but we do not believe it adds to the safety of our students. At North Side, as at all of our schools, we have security procedures in place. In addition, at North Side, we have armed police officers in the building every day. ⁉⁉⁉⁉⁉⁉⁉⁉

Cowan suggests Oath Keepers may similarly guard other schools in the future.

Viral Meme Shows the Real Issue Behind Liberals’ Obsession With Gun Control

The only question after every school shooting is how quickly it begins. I’m talking, of course, about calls for guns to be banned and confiscated. This time, it was surprisingly swift and predictably fact-free.

There were, of course, the tweets from liberal luminaries, many of whom used outright lies masquerading as statistics to explain their position. Then there were the angry and/or weepy liberal news anchors berating the GOP for their response. The only twist in the narrative this time was a supposed political movement of cherry-picked high school students who were calling for gun control, all of which was given conspicuous coverage.

The FBI’s mishandling of the case, meanwhile, was pushed to the back-burner. The same thing happened to calls to focus on mental health, even though it quickly became clear the shooter had raised numerous red flags with his behavior in the past and was on the radar of law enforcement.

The most conspicuously-ignored proposal to stop shootings like the one in Parkland, Florida from occurring, however, was the suggestion that schools increase their security. In fact, when Ted Cruz went on CNN to talk about it, the network didn’t even bother to air the footage and half-anchor/half-pundit Chris Cuomo later had the audacity to call Cruz out for shirking an interview with “The Most Trusted Name In News.”

That’s because it involves guns — and, if there’s anything we know from the media, it’s that guns are evil and the more gun-free zones there are, the better. Yet, increased security on campus — in particular letting trained teachers conceal carry — seems to be one of the most effective ways to stop shooters in their tracks, or to stop them from considering schools a soft target in the first place.

You can see why this simple yet poignant cartoon has gone viral.

The primary issue with the idea of gun control — especially when it comes to school shootings — is that it primarily affects individuals who aren’t willing to break the law. Given the fact that the Florida shooter had already been on the FBI’s radar, he could have been stopped. But let’s suppose that he hadn’t been.

Say you ban AR-15s and other “assault weapons.” He still could have purchased handguns, which would be just as effective in a gun-free zone where there’s no trained security.

OK, say you ban guns entirely (even though, as per Heller v. D.C., the Supreme Court has already declared that unconstitutional). There are already plenty of illegal guns in the United States. A shooter could easily use the dark web to buy whatever he needed — assuming he didn’t have an illegal weapons connection in real life.

Let’s be clear: there’s no way to effectively confiscate all weapons in the United States, particularly those that are illegally possessed. That’s before you consider that, with the rise of 3D printing, the technology to make firearms is easier to obtain than ever.

That’s why all the gun-free zones and laws in the world won’t stop school shooters, especially given the fact that most of them plan these crimes months — if not years — in advance. The one thing they can always count on is the fact that most schools will be soft targets, with little to no security in their way.

After all that planning, they’re not going to get to the door and say to themselves, “Oh, no — a gun free zone? I’ve been foiled!” In fact, they’re counting on the school being a gun-free zone.

There are plenty of ways to stop mentally ill individuals intent on mass violence. Gun control or gun-free zones are not one of them, in spite of the left’s obsession with disarming Americans.

Deputy Who Arrived At Shooting ‘Never Went In’ School

Broward County (Fla.) Sheriff Scott Israel said Thursday that a deputy was at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School while gunman Nikolas Cruz was shooting but “never went in,” even though the officer heard the gunshots and “clearly” knew a gunman was inside the school.

Seventeen people died as a result of the shooting last week.

“We’re not going to disclose the video at this time, and we may never disclose the video depending on the prosecution and the criminal case. What I saw was a deputy arrive at the west side of building 12, take up a position, and he never went in,” Sheriff Israel said.

The deputy, Scott Peterson, was suspended without pay and has since resigned.

“Devastated, sick to my stomach, there are no words,” Israel said.

Matt Walsh: “I’m a Gun Owner, I Will Get Rid of My Gun Under These Conditions”

In the wake of the Parkland shooting, the media has been more than happy to hand the spotlight to any gun owner who shows a willingness to rid themselves of their gun. Whether or not this will actually affect gun safety — or even if they actually managed to destroy the gun — is pretty much irrelevant. Just look like you’re destroying and/or handing in your gun, make an impassioned (if fact-free) commentary about the Parkland shooting, and bam: instant viral star.

One prominent conservative — The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh — has also offered to give up his firearms. However, in a short-but-pithy piece for the publication, Walsh says there are a number of conditions for this offer to be valid.

“To be more specific, I will get rid of my gun the moment my gun becomes self-aware and develops the ability to go off by itself and shoot people on its own initiative,” Walsh wrote.

“I will get rid of my gun as soon as I begin to feel the insatiable urge to become a mass shooter,” he continued.

“I will get rid of my gun if I ever lose half my brain cells and no longer possess the basic competency to store and handle it safely.

“I will get rid of my gun if someone can pull out a Bible and show me the verse that makes it a sin merely to own a weapon, or to use it for self-defense.

“I will get rid of my gun if my gun ever becomes possessed by the Devil, or if I ever become possessed by the Devil.

“I will get rid of my gun the very moment that all evil is vanquished from human society, and wickedness is purged from the hearts of men, and there is no longer any danger in the world and the whole of mankind can live in utter peace and harmony. When Christ returns in His glory I will certainly lay down my arms. I do not plan on bringing my gun to Heaven.

“But we aren’t yet in Heaven. And that is why I have a gun. And that is why I won’t get rid of it.”

This is, of course, the one thing that the media is unlikely to point out: the fact that the easiest way to combat evil of the violent sort is a firearm. Period. This is something that the media loves to ridicule. Just look how they received President Trump’s suggestion that teachers ought to be armed. Yet, it’s also something that’s an undeniable fact. Look at the numerous examples where guns have saved lives. Look at where they could save lives.

We don’t live in Heaven, we live upon a very imperfect earth. Our founders realized this, and they gave us the right to bear arms. When we can bring Heaven down to earth, we can all give up our guns. Until then, good luck.

Billy Graham Joins Stoneman Douglas HS Kids

As news of the death of Billy Graham broke, friends and family of the Stoneman Douglas high school shooting victims gathered at the White House. It was tough to watch but I thought the kids and parents did a great job. The president listened respectfully with no tweeting. But he did encourage teachers to pack heat.

San Fran Nan Pelosi Loves Crumbs If They’re Obama Crumbs

Nancy Pelosi can chalk up another sound bite to the Really Stupid Comments Hall of Fame. Pelosi waxed ignorant in response to the $1,000 bonuses paid out to American workers post Trump tax cut.

The botoxed Left Coast Lefty explained:

In terms of the bonus that corporate America received, versus the crumbs that they are giving to workers to kind of put the schmooze on, is so pathetic. It’s so pathetic.

I think it’s insignificant.

In the words of my dear dad, “IS SHE NUTS??” (rhetorical question)

Rep. Pelosi herself is worth between $29 million (per wikipedia) and $193 million (per Investment Watch), with The Atlantic citing a cool $74 million. I guess if I had $74 million I would consider $1,000 crumbs.

But to us normals, Nan, $1,000 is almost a month’s rent/mortgage. That would pay my electricity bill for the year. I’ve got news for you Your Royal Frozen-Faceness, $1,000 is a very big deal.

And just a few short years ago, in 2011, the very same Rich Representative proudly praised Obama:

Today is a victory for all Americans – for the security of our middle class, for the health of our seniors, and for economic growth and job creation.

The American people spoke out clearly and, thanks to President Obama’s leadership, 160 million Americans will continue to receive their payroll tax cut – nearly $40 per paycheck in the pockets of the average family.

I salute the work of the unified House Democratic caucus on behalf of the American people.

Let’s consider that. $40 per paycheck, on average, multiplied by 26 paychecks, is $1,040. So a savings of $1,040 for an entire year is cause for celebration when Obama is ~~king~~…uh..president. But $1,000 bonuses PLUS increases in paychecks over the course of the year, is crumbs under President Trump.

I see how you roll.

National Review summed up Pelosi’s meager kingdom (I kid):

Nancy Pelosi may be one of the most liberal members of the U.S. House, where she runs the Democratic caucus, railing against income inequality and the avarice of the 1 percent.

But she also happens to be one of the body’s wealthiest members: In Washington, she lives in a multimillion-dollar Georgetown condo; she owns a 16-acre vineyard in Napa Valley and a 3,700 square-foot house in San Francisco’s tony Pacific Heights, according to her May 2015 financial disclosure statements.

Her May 2015 financial-disclosure statements, showing income that places her in the top one-tenth of the 1 percent of Americans, may surprise some in light of the concern she’s expressed about income equality and the distribution of wealth.

So every time Representative Pelosi bad mouths Trump and anyone else successful, think pot and kettle. Also remember, the modus operandi of The Left: nurture and feed a mentality of envy, thereby causing division and a deep desire to see whomever Progressives paint as “greedy fat cats” stripped of their lawfully acquired wealth, which should then be redistributed at the government’s whim.

That’s the battle cry of Pelosi and Bernie and good old Fauxcahontas. They yell “SQUIRREL!!!” (or wealthy) and paint every conservative policy as a money-grubbing, greedy ploy. Well sorry, Nan. You can’t fool us normals, us deplorables. $1,000 plus larger paychecks is something to be thankful for.

Could you just please go back to your vineyard and prep for your next Botox appointment? Drink some wine? Let the grownups who understand solid economics carry on the serious work as public servants.

Parkland Shooting Survivor: CNN Planted ‘Scripted’ Question At Town Hall [VIDEO]

Parkland shooting survivor Colton Haab said that CNN pushed him to ask a scripted question at their gun control town hall Wednesday night, overruling him on the questions he wanted to ask.

“CNN had originally asked me to write a speech and questions and it ended up being all scripted,” Haab, a 17-year-old student at Stoneman Douglas High School, told local news station WPLG-TV. “I expected to be able to ask my questions and give my opinion on my questions.”

“Colton wrote questions about school safety, suggested using veterans as armed school security guards but claims CNN wanted him to ask a scripted question instead, so he decided not to go,” the WLPG-TV reporter said.

CNN disputed Colton’s account of events to the Daily Caller.

“CNN did not provide or script questions for anyone in last night’s town hall, nor have we ever,” a CNN spokesperson told the Daily Caller.

The spokesperson said Haab was supposed to “expand on his original question” about arming teachers, not prepare an extensive speech. The subject of Haab’s speech, CNN’s statement also pointed out, was already covered extensively in the town hall. The dispute caused Haab’s father to pull him from the broadcast.

“I don’t think that [the town hall is] going to get anything accomplished, it’s not going to ask the true questions that all the parents and teachers and students have,” Haab said.

Haab is a member of the school’s Junior ROTC and heroically shielded students behind kevlar sheets while the shooting was taking place. He had previously said that hero football coach Aaron Weis, who died shielding students during the shooting, could have stopped the shooter if he had a gun on him.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper, who moderated Wednesday night’s town hall, did not immediately return The Daily Caller’s request for comment regarding Haab’s claim, which was first pointed out by RealClearPolitics. (RELATED: CNN’s Donna Brazile Shared Debate Questions With Clinton Campaign)

Another shooting survivor, 18-year-old Brandon Minoff, previously told Fox News that he believes the media is politicizing the tragedy to push gun control measures.

“I wholeheartedly believe that the media is politicizing this tragedy,” Minoff said on Tuesday. “It seems that gun control laws is the major topic of conversation rather than focusing on the bigger issue of 17 innocent lives being taken at the hands of another human.”

“I know many people who are pro-gun and others who support gun control but it seems that the media is specifically targeting those in support of gun control to make it seem as if they are the majority, and the liberal news outlets are the ones that seem to make the bigger effort to speak to these people, and I’m talking from experience,” Minoff said.

San Francisco’s ‘Diseased Streets’ Are Being Compared to Some of Worst Slums in the World

A combination of discarded needles and piles of feces on the streets of San Francisco has caused least one expert to say that the city’s slums are comparable to those in developing countries. Reporters with KNTV investigated what they referred to as the “diseased streets” of the city, and found that each of the 153 downtown blocks they surveyed — an area that encompasses playgrounds, hotels and government buildings — is littered with garbage. Included in this trash were at least 100 drug needles and 300 piles of feces.

Dr. Lee Riley, an infectious disease expert at the University of California, Berkeley, warned that not only do the needles cause viral diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis, but dried fecal matter can release airborne viruses like the rotavirus.

“If you happen to inhale that, it can also go into your intestine,” he said, leading to potentially fatal results.

Riley, who has researched and written about conditions in slums across the world, believes that some parts of San Francisco may be worse than the world’s dirtiest slums.

“The contamination is … much greater than communities in Brazil or Kenya or India,” he said, while pointing out that in those countries, slums often serve as long-term housing, and thus, their residents work to maintain them.

But in San Francisco, he suggested that the homeless do not make an effort to keep the streets clean because they are forced to move around frequently.

The situation on the streets of San Francisco is particularly dangerous for children.

“We see poop, we see pee, we see needles, and we see trash,” said Adelita Orellana, a preschool teacher. “Sometimes they ask what is it, and that’s a conversation that’s a little difficult to have with a 2-year old, but we just let them know that those things are full of germs, that they are dangerous, and they should never be touched.”

A’Nylah Reed, a 3-year-old preschooler, explained that “the floor is dirty,” making her walk to school difficult.

“There is poop in there,” she said. “That makes me angry.” Reed’s mother, meanwhile, noted that she often has to physically intervene to ensure that her daughter doesn’t step on needles or human feces.

Some city officials are convinced that the solution is to provide short-term housing for the city’s homeless population.

“Unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable,” said city Supervisor Hillary Ronen. “We’re losing tourists. We’re losing conventions in San Francisco. All of this is happening because we aren’t addressing the root cause, which is we need more temporary beds for street homelessness.”

The city currently has about 2,000 temporary beds, but Rosen believes about 1,000 more are needed, KNTV reported. This would likely cost roughly $25 million.

“We need to find a source of revenue,” she said. “Whether that’s putting something on the ballot to raise business taxes or taking a look at our general fund and re-allocating money towards that purpose and taking it away from something else in the city.”

Regardless, Ronen said the situation in San Francisco is a human “tragedy.”

“We’re not going to make a huge dent in this problem unless we deal with some underlying major social problems and issues,” she stated. “There’s a human tragedy happening in San Francisco.”

Until a permanent solution is decided upon, all the city can do is remove feces and needles from the streets, an effort that cost about $30 million in the 2016-2017 fiscal year, according to Public Works Director Mohammed Nuru.

Removing just one pile of human waste takes a half an hour, Nuru said.

“The steamer has to come. He has to park the steamer. He’s got to come out with his steamer, disinfect, steam clean, roll up and go,” he explained.

The dirty streets in San Francisco haven’t stopped it from being ranked among the most beautiful in the world. But the city is also one of the most expensive in the U.S., with Fox News noting that this accentuates a large “gap between the haves and have-nots.”

1. Highlights

* Guns are used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense. Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year—or about 6,850 times a day.(1) This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives.(2)

* Even anti-gun Clinton researchers concede that guns are used 1.5 million times annually for self-defense. According to the Clinton Justice Department, there are as many as 1.5 million cases of self-defense with a firearm every year. The National Institute of Justice published this figure in 1997 as part of “Guns in America”—a study which was authored by noted anti-gun criminologists Philip Cook and Jens Ludwig.(3)

* Concealed carry laws have reduced murder and crime rates in the states that have enacted them. According to a comprehensive study which reviewed crime statistics in every county in the United States from 1977 to 1992, states which passed concealed carry laws reduced their rate of murder by 8.5%, rape by 5%, aggravated assault by 7% and robbery by 3%.(4)

* Anti-gun journal pronounces the failure of the Brady law. One of the nation’s leading anti-gun medical publications, the Journal of the American Medical Association, found that the Brady registration law has failed to reduce murder rates. In August 2000, JAMA reported that states implementing waiting periods and background checks did “not [experience] reductions in homicide rates or overall suicide rates.”(5)

* Twice as many children are killed playing football in school than are murdered by guns. That’s right. Despite what media coverage might seem to indicate, there are more deaths related to high school football than guns. In a recent three year period, twice as many football players died from hits to the head, heat stroke, etc. (45), as compared with students who were murdered by firearms (22) during that same time period.(6)

* More guns, less crime. In the decade of the 1990s, the number of guns in this country increased by roughly 40 million—even while the murder rate decreased by almost 40% percent.(7) Accidental gun deaths in the home decreased by almost 40 percent as well.(8)

* CDC admits there is no evidence that gun control reduces crime. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has long been criticized for propagating questionable studies which gun control organizations have used in defense of their cause. But after analyzing 51 studies in 2003, the CDC concluded that the “evidence was insufficient to determine the effectiveness of any of these [firearms] laws.”(9)

* Gun shows are NOT a primary source of illegal guns for criminals. According to two government studies, the National Institute of Justice reported in 1997 that “less than two percent [of criminals] reported obtaining [firearms] from a gun show.”(10) And the Bureau of Justice Statistics revealed in 2001 that less than one percent of firearm offenders acquired their weapons at gun shows.(11)

* Several polls show that Americans are very pro-gun. Several scientific polls indicate that the right to keep and bear arms is still revered—and gun control disdained—by a majority of Americans today. To mention just a few recent polls:

* In 2002, an ABC News poll found that almost three-fourths of the American public believe that the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution protects the rights of “individuals” to own guns.(12)

* Zogby pollsters found that by a more than 3 to 1 margin, Americans support punishing “criminals who use a gun in the commission of a crime” over legislation to “ban handguns.”(13)

* A Research 2000 poll found that 85% of Americans would find it appropriate for a principal or teacher to use “a gun at school to defend the lives of students” to stop a school massacre.(14)

* A study claiming “guns are three times more likely to kill you than help you” is a total fraud. Even using the low figures from the Clinton Justice Department, firearms are used almost 50 times more often to save life than to take life.(15) More importantly, however, the figure claiming one is three times more likely to be killed by one’s own gun is a total lie:

* Researcher Don Kates reveals that all available data now indicates that the “home gun homicide victims [in the flawed study] were killed using guns not kept in the victim’s home.”(16) In other words, the victims were NOT murdered with their own guns! They were killed “by intruders who brought their own guns to the victim’s household.”(17)

* Gun-free England not such a utopia after all. According to the BBC News, handgun crime in the United Kingdom rose by 40% in the two years after it passed its draconian gun ban in 1997.(18) And according to a United Nations study, British citizens are more likely to become a victim of crime than are people in the United States. The 2000 report shows that the crime rate in England is higher than the crime rates of 16 other industrialized nations, including the United States.(19)

2. Self-defense

A. Guns save more lives than they take; prevent more injuries than they inflict

* Guns are used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense. Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year—or about 6,850 times a day.(20) This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives.(21)

* Of the 2.5 million times citizens use their guns to defend themselves every year, the overwhelming majority merely brandish their gun or fire a warning shot to scare off their attackers. Less than 8% of the time, a citizen will kill or wound his/her attacker.(22)

* As many as 200,000 women use a gun every year to defend themselves against sexual abuse.(23)

* Even anti-gun Clinton researchers concede that guns are used 1.5 million times annually for self-defense. According to the Clinton Justice Department, there are as many as 1.5 million cases of self-defense with a firearm every year. The National Institute of Justice published this figure in 1997 as part of “Guns in America”—a study which was authored by noted anti-gun criminologists Philip Cook and Jens Ludwig.(24)

* Armed citizens kill more crooks than do the police. Citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as police do every year (1,527 to 606)(25). And readers of Newsweek learned that “only 2 percent of civilian shootings involved an innocent person mistakenly identified as a criminal. The ‘error rate’ for the police, however, was 11 percent, more than five times as high.”(26)

* Handguns are the weapon of choice for self-defense. Citizens use handguns to protect themselves over 1.9 million times a year.(27) Many of these self-defense handguns could be labeled as “Saturday Night Specials.”

B. Concealed carry laws help reduce crime

* Nationwide: one-half million self-defense uses. Every year, as many as one-half million citizens defend themselves with a firearm away from home.(28)

* Concealed carry laws are dropping crime rates across the country. A comprehensive national study determined in 1996 that violent crime fell after states made it legal to carry concealed firearms. The results of the study showed:

* States which passed concealed carry laws reduced their rate of murder by 8.5%, rape by 5%, aggravated assault by 7% and robbery by 3%;(29) and if those states not having concealed carry laws had adopted such laws in 1992, then approximately 1,570 murders, 4,177 rapes, 60,000 aggravated assaults and over 11,000 robberies would have been avoided yearly.(30)

* Vermont: one of the safest five states in the country. In Vermont, citizens can carry a firearm without getting permission . . . without paying a fee . . . or without going through any kind of government-imposed waiting period. And yet for ten years in a row, Vermont has remained one of the top-five, safest states in the union—having three times received the “Safest State Award.”(31)

* Florida: concealed carry helps slash the murder rate in the state. In the fifteen years following the passage of Florida’s concealed carry law in 1987, over 800,000 permits to carry firearms were issued to people in the state.(32) FBI reports show that the homicide rate in Florida, which in 1987 was much higher than the national average, fell 52% during that 15-year period—thus putting the Florida rate below the national average.(33)

* Do firearms carry laws result in chaos? No. Consider the case of Florida. A citizen in the Sunshine State is far more likely to be attacked by an alligator than to be assaulted by a concealed carry holder. * During the first fifteen years that the Florida law was in effect, alligator attacks outpaced the number of crimes committed by carry holders by a 229 to 155 margin.(34) * And even the 155 “crimes” committed by concealed carry permit holders are somewhat misleading as most of these infractions resulted from Floridians who accidentally carried their firearms into restricted areas, such as an airport.(35)

* Concealed Carry v. Waiting Period Laws. In 1976, both Georgia and Wisconsin tried two different approaches to fighting crime. Georgia enacted legislation making it easier for citizens to carry guns for self-defense, while Wisconsin passed a law requiring a 48 hour waiting period before the purchase of a handgun. What resulted during the ensuing years? Georgia’s law served as a deterrent to criminals and helped drop its homicide rate by 21 percent. Wisconsin’s murder rate, however, rose 33 percent during the same period.(36)

With Indictments of Russians, the Groundwork Is in Place to Criminally Charge Hillary

The indictments of Russian nationals for meddling with the election could “make the Clinton Campaign a potential target,” according to a California lawyer.

In an opinion piece for Law & Crime, Robert Barnes said that Robert Mueller indicted of 13 Russians and three Russian companies because they did not register as foreign agents or record financial expenditures to the Federal Elections Commissions.

“They were foreign citizens; they tried to influence an election; and they neither registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act nor reported their funding to the Federal Elections Commission,” he wrote.

Under this claim, there are three things that “make the Clinton Campaign a potential target,” according to Barnes.

The first one is that they knew Christopher Steele, the author of the infamous Russia-Trump dossier, was a foreign citizen.

According to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s press conference on the indictments, the Russians “used stolen or fictitious American identities, fraudulent bank accounts and false identification documents” to hide their activities.

The next potentially criminating thing is that the Clinton campaign “knew, and paid, Steele to influence an election.”

Similarly, the indictments showed that twelve defendants worked for a company called Internet Research Agency, LLC, based in St. Petersburg. It reportedly operated through Russian shell companies.

“It employed hundreds of people in its online operations, ranging from creators of fictitious personas, to technical and administrative support personnel, with an annual budget of millions of dollars,” Rosenstein said.

Lastly, the Clinton campaign “knew, and facilitated, Steele” not registering as a foreign agent or reporting that he was being funded by the Clinton campaign to the Federal Election Commissions. He instead disguised the payments as a “legal expense.”

Steele himself, based on Mueller’s theory, is a criminal under the same guidelines as the Russian indictments. He is a foreign citizen, was paid to influence an election, and never registered as a foreign agent or listed his expenditures.

The Clinton campaign is not the only potential target under Mueller’s theory. The DNC, Perkins Coie and Fusion GPS could also be targeted for indictment, according to Barnes. However, Barnes said not to expect an indictment of any of these people or organizations.

“Mueller chose his targets because he knows they will never appear in court, never contest the charges, and cannot be arrested or extradited as Russian citizens,” he wrote.

Barnes is a California-based trial attorney who focuses on Constitutional, criminal and civil rights law.

If there’s a shooting involving an AR-15, or a gun like the AR-15, or even a gun with the letters “A” and “R” somewhere in its name, you can bet that the media is looking to use it to demonize the AR-15. After the shooting at the shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, last week, the AR-15 again came under scrutiny.

That’s not because it’s more deadly than other guns if school shooters have free rein — the Virginia Tech shooting, which claimed far more lives, was committed with simple handguns — but it’s become almost a symbol to both shooters and gun-grabbers alike.

In the wake of the Parkland shooting, one AR-15 owner went massively viral by “destroying” his gun in response. However, our gun expert looked at what he did to it and noticed something the media should have looked at before reporting the story.

“Scott Pappalardo owned his AR-15 rifle for more than 30 years,” ABC News reported on its Facebook page. “He even has a Second Amendment tattoo on his arm.

“This weekend, he destroyed his gun ‘to make sure this weapon will never be able to take a life.’” Thus, he cut it in half:

That video has gotten over 2.3 million views on ABC News’ Facebook account alone in just one day. However, did you notice the one thing about his “destruction” of the gun that seems a bit suspicious?

Jared Harris, our resident gun expert here at Conservative Tribune, certainly did.

Harris, a former infantryman who has extensive experience in weapons, says that if Pappalardo thought he was really destroying the weapon, he did it so ineptly one could argue he probably shouldn’t have owned it in the first place.

“He only sliced the barrel,” Harris said. “Those are less than $100 and literally screw into the upper part of the receiver.”

To put that into context, low-end AR rifles start at $500 minimum and can go up to several thousand dollars.

“It’s like throwing a tire into the garbage and declaring that you’ve destroyed an entire car.”

If Pappalardo truly thinks he’s destroyed the weapon, in other words, he’s actually made it more dangerous by thinking it’s destroyed and therefore harmless. If one thinks a gun is harmless, one is more likely to let it fall into the wrong hands — and that makes the gun way more dangerous than it was before it was “destroyed.”

Of course, this could be a stunt, or Pappalardo might just be trolling the heck out of the news media. Maybe he went on and ran over the gun 20 times with his truck before blowing it up in his backyard. All of these are options.

However, when the media uncritically reports that this man has “destroyed” an AR-15, it shows they know nothing about a gun they’re so eager to villainize.

Okay, I’ll be the bad guy and say what no one else is brave enough to say, but wants to say. I’ll take all the criticism and attacks from everyone because you know what? I’m a TEACHER. I live this life daily. And I wouldn’t do anything else! But I also know daily I could end up in an active shooter situation.

Until we, as a country, are willing to get serious and talk about mental health issues, lack of available care for the mental health issues, lack of discipline in the home, horrendous lack of parental support when the schools are trying to control horrible behavior at school (oh no! Not MY KID. What did YOU do to cause my kid to react that way?), lack of moral values, and yes, I’ll say it-violent video games that take away all sensitivity to ANY compassion for others’ lives, as well as reality TV that makes it commonplace for people to constantly scream up in each others’ faces and not value any other person but themselves, we will have a gun problem in school. Our kids don’t understand the permanency of death anymore!!!

I grew up with guns. Everyone knows that. But you know what? My parents NEVER supported any bad behavior from me. I was terrified of doing something bad at school, as I would have not had a life until I corrected the problem and straightened my ass out. My parents invaded my life. They knew where I was ALL the time. They made me have a curfew. They made me wake them up when I got home. They made me respect their rules. They had full control of their house, and at any time could and would go through every inch of my bedroom, backpack, pockets, anything! Parents: it’s time to STEP UP! Be the parent that actually gives a crap! Be the annoying mom that pries and knows what your kid is doing. STOP being their friend. They have enough “friends” at school. Be their parent. Being the “cool mom” means not a damn thing when either your kid is dead or your kid kills other people because they were allowed to have their space and privacy in YOUR HOME. I’ll say it again. My home was filled with guns growing up. For God’s sake, my daddy was an 82nd Airborne Ranger who lost half his face serving our country. But you know what? I never dreamed of shooting anyone with his guns. I never dreamed of taking one! I was taught respect for human life, compassion, rules, common decency, and most of all, I was taught that until I moved out, my life and bedroom wasn’t mine…it was theirs. And they were going to know what was happening because they loved me and wanted the best for me.

There. Say that I’m a horrible person. I didn’t bring up gun control, and I will refuse to debate it with anyone. This post wasn’t about gun control. This was me, loving the crap out of people and wanting the best for them. This was about my school babies and knowing that God created each one for greatness, and just wanting them to reach their futures. It’s about 20 years ago this year I started my teaching career. Violence was not this bad 20 years ago. Lack of compassion wasn’t this bad 20 years ago. And God knows 20 years ago that I wasn’t afraid daily to call a parent because I KNEW that 9 out of 10 would cuss me out, tell me to go to Hell, call the news on me, call the school board on me, or post all over FaceBook about me because I called to let them know what their child chose to do at school…because they are a NORMAL kid!!!!!

Those 17 lives mattered. When are we going to take our own responsibility seriously?

School Shooting Survivor Decries the Loss of Innocents…The Irony (Video)

All of America is mourning the loss of seventeen lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Another fourteen were wounded. The perp, “Nikolas Jacob Cruz, was arrested shortly afterward and confessed, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder.”

Murder is an evil act. And on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 — which was both Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday — a young man committed evil acts by slaughtering seventeen innocent teens.

Now the backlash begins. Rather than condemn the evil act, The Left, the Progressives, aggressively seek to infringe our Second Amendment rights. Rather than get to the root of the problem — the heart of an individual, hardened to the precept of sanctity of human life — Lefties choose to go after the inanimate weapon used to take those lives.

We mourn and we pray for the fallen, for their families, for the community. We pray for God’s comfort and protection. In America, our flags are at half-staff, as a reminder of the great loss, of the senseless act that cut down young, promising lives.

Today the students, most likely fed anti-gun propaganda in the government schools for years, are protesting at their state capital, asking legislators to do something. I won’t condemn those students, all of whom are grieving the loss of their friends.

But I most certainly will condemn the wrongheaded ideology disseminated daily in America’s public schools. The ideology of The Left condemns law-abiding gun owners and the Second Amendment. They ignore the blatant fact that the law-abiding citizens are not the problem. And sorry, but the firearms are not the problem.

The schools have been so busy protecting students from “horrible” influences like prayer GASP and the Ten Commandments. Yea, those Commandments of which number six reads:

Thou shalt not kill. (Deuteronomy 5:17 KJV)

You shall not murder. (NIV)

Yea that pesky commandment prohibiting the murder of innocents. Once upon a time school students all knew the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule. Not anymore; thanks very much Progressive educators.

So this morning, as the students gave impassioned pleas for something to be done to stop the slaughter, I caught this one student, Ryan Deitsch, adding his comments. Listen to what he says very carefully. Pay particular attention to his words at 1:01 ( grabbed my iPad quickly, so excuse the quality of the video itself):

“And what is wrong is that the life of innocents that are being taken day after day after day”

I completely agree with Ryan.

Seventeen innocents were murdered last Wednesday. It was an evil act by a troubled young man who happened to use a firearm as his weapon.

Three thousand innocents are murdered daily in America via abortion.

Young Ryan spoke the truth and unwittingly highlighted a shameful problem in America.

So we continue to pray for those students, for the families who have lost a son or daughter, and for the entire Parkland community.

But don’t lose sight of the irony. Innocents are being murdered day after day after day.

ICE Report Rips Apart Liberal Narrative about “Law-Abiding” Illegal Aliens

President Donald Trump ran for office on a promise to crack down on illegal immigration, and repeatedly noted that he would focus on the arrest and removal from the country of “bad hombres” that had criminal convictions or pending charges.

Of course, liberals countered with the tired narrative that hardly any illegal immigrants are criminals, and that Trump would in essence be targeting “law-abiding” illegals — the narrative they lean on to support their sanctuary city policies that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration officials in turning over locally detained illegals for federal adjudication, processing and removal.

But according to The Daily Wire, a recent report released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement totally undercut that narrative as it made clear that an overwhelming percentage of illegal immigrants arrested by ICE in the 2017 fiscal year — roughly 90 percent — either had a criminal record or had criminal charges pending against them, with very few qualifying as “law-abiding” with no known convictions or pending charges.

That 18-page summary report detailed how ICE activity increased significantly following a Jan. 25, 2017, executive order from President Trump, and compared the resulting numbers of arrests with previous years.

Pew Research took a deep dive into the numbers of the report and found that of all those arrested by ICE in FY 2017;

Some 74 percent had past criminal convictions.
An additional 16 percent of those arrested faced pending criminal charges,
A mere 11 percent had no criminal record or pending charges to speak of.

Interestingly, the report showed that ICE arrests in 2017 were nearly half of the number of arrests made in FY 2009, former President Barack Obama’s first year in office, and that roughly 61 percent of those arrested in 2009 by Obama’s ICE were of the “non-criminal” variety. That’s exactly the opposite of what liberals would have you believe.

Of course, the total number of arrests dropped significantly over Obama’s tenure in office, with a decisive closing of that gap between criminal and non-criminal over the latter years, though the number of arrests picked up sharply following Trump’s inauguration into office — some 30 percent higher over the previous year.

Of those arrested in 2017 with past criminal convictions, the top criminal category was driving under the influence, followed closely by possession or distribution of “dangerous drugs.” Other traffic offenses, immigration law violations and assault rounded out the top five criminal categories.

Pew noted that there was a bit of regional variance in the numbers of criminal versus non-criminal ICE arrests. For example, some 88 percent of those arrested in the southern California area had a criminal record, while only about 60 percent of those arrested in New Jersey were known criminals.

The ICE report didn’t come right out and explicitly condemn sanctuary city policies, but it wasn’t difficult to catch the numerous allusions to such policies at several points throughout the report.

Most notably, a section of the report titled “At-Large Arrests” pointed out that in some jurisdictions, ICE was compelled to make at-large arrests within the community of illegal immigrants, which inevitably brings them into contact with non-criminal illegals.

Comparatively, when ICE is permitted to make arrests in a “custodial setting” such as a jail or prison, it is virtually guaranteed that the arrestee will either have a criminal record or pending criminal charges, and is far less likely to be a non-criminal swept up in the at-large arrests or sweeping raids.

Because of the lack of cooperation from sanctuary city jurisdictions, ICE had to make significantly more at-large arrests in the community than in prior years. The non-criminal illegals caught in those arrests have nobody to blame but themselves (for being here illegally in the first place) and the liberal politicians who refused to cooperate with federal officials for their detainment.

The ICE report noted that it would be far better for everyone involved — both law enforcement officials and non-criminal illegal immigrants — if such jurisdictions cooperated and handed over criminal illegals to ICE within a custodial setting, which would negate the need for at-large arrests and raids to track down known criminal illegals.

The liberal media would have us all believe that Trump and ICE are rounding up and deporting millions of “law-abiding,” non-criminal illegal immigrants, but the numbers released by ICE paint a far different picture, and reveal that Trump has thus far kept his word; that he is focused on rooting out and deporting criminals who shouldn’t be here.
