REPORT: The WORST Cities For Gun Violence All Have THIS In Common

Published by ClashDaily.com | on October 9, 2017

URL of the original posting site: https://clashdaily.com/2017/10/report-worst-cities-gun-violence-common/?

While we’re all talking about Bump Stocks… could we be missing the bigger issue?

As it does every time we see a headline-making tragedy, the gun control debate has come up. But are we all chasing red herrings? Are we swatting at flies when there is an elephant or two in the room?

The total number of deaths by firearm in 2016 is reportedly 33,594.

That number includes suicide, criminal homicide, mishap and justifiable homicide.

If we can take the numbers from the Brady Institute as accurate, they are claiming 93 people in America die daily within the unbrella term ‘gun violence.

Of that number, most — 58 a day — are suicide, not homicide.

But suicides — as tragic as they are — are not the problem that keeps people up at night, and generate headlines. Maybe they SHOULD be, but they’re not.

Stripping away the suicide figure, we’re looking at about 12,500 gun deaths a year.

Ok, now we’re getting into more useful stats.

Of those who remain, the vast majority of homicides are perpetrated by young males, usually against other males of similar age.

The rampages and mass killings that splash across the headlines are an exceedingly small percentage of the total.

The question of politics has come up. There was even a meme about it.

Do the mass killers have a tendency to vote Democrat? Sure, some of them have been registered as Democrats. But even that stat is hit-and-miss. It’s hard to quantify. Should you count the Vegas Killer, Paddock? He was reportedly a registered Democrat in 1984… back when he lived in Florida.

Those details are slippery at best. Let’s deal in what we can quantify.

But what IS clear is that the homicide rate with guns are — in most regions — in decline.

But there are places gun-related homicide are still rising. And both trends follow clear patterns.

They are declining in America ‘generally’ but rising in the cities. Obviously, rural America tends to tilt ‘Red’ while urban America tilts ‘Blue’.

Here are the places with the highest per-capita murder rate in the USA, 2016: St Louis; Baltimore; Detroit; New Orleans; Birmingham; Jackson MS; Baton Rouge; Hartford; Salinas; Milwaukee; Washington, DC; Kansas City; Cincinnati; West Palm Beach; Memphis; San Bernardino; Oakland; Atlanta; Richmond; Kansas City; Pittsburg; Chicago; North Charlotte.

Whatever else you might want to say about the trends, the places where murder — including, obviously, gun crime — are on the rise tend to be Urban. And politically very ‘Blue’.

But most of our violent crime occurs in violent cities, most of which have been Democrat strongholds for a long time… the Chicagos, Baltimores, Detroits and St. Louis.

If we REALLY wanted to stop ‘90%’ of shootings, we shouldn’t be talking about ‘bump stocks’ and ‘high capacity magazines’. If we truly cared, as Obama claimed about ‘saving even one life’, our National Gun conversation would be talking about two things.

1) Suicide prevention at a national level.

The annual age-adjusted suicide rate is 13.26 per 100,000 individuals. Men die by suicide 3.5x more often than women. On average, there are 121 suicides per day. White males accounted for 7 of 10 suicides in 2015. –American Foundation Suicide Prevention

That’s suicide generally. As we said earlier, suicide by gun accounts for 58 per day. What does that mean in real terms?

That’s the same bodycount as one Las Vegas Massacre.

Every.

Single.

Day.

2) Breaking the cycle of urban violence in Democrat strongholds.

You know… better schools, mentors, stronger families, lock away people who use guns in crimes.

Basically the OPPOSITE of Obama’s stack of sketchy pardons — which included gun offenses — that he crammed through before leaving office.

So, Democrats aren’t the ‘white knights’ rushing to our rescue they claim to be.

They’re actually distracting us from the real crisis.

And if we finally addressed these two issues, what would happen to these numbers? They would drop.

How much?

A LOT.

Chicago Gun Violence So High It Is Skewing National Murder Figures

waving flagAuthored by AWR Hawkins / 21 Dec 2016

Breitbart News reported that the death toll in Chicago had already passed 730 for the year by December 6. And the Chicago Tribune reports that the number of murders in Chicago reached 755 by December 21. When these numbers are added to the murder figures of other cities, they raise the overall perception of violence considerably — particularly when it comes to the number of homicides.

According to The Washington Post, the Brennan Center of Justice expects “the homicide rate for the country’s 30 biggest cities… to go up by 14 percent this year.” But that increase does not tell the whole story; namely, that “the killings in Chicago account for an astounding 43.7 percent of this overall increase in [homicides].”

In other words, if year-end numbers do in fact show the anticipated “14 percent” jump in homicides nationally, the deaths in Chicago alone will account for nearly half of that increase.

This means Chicago’s failed gun control experiment is affecting us all by making murder numbers appear higher across the nation than they actually are. These elevated numbers give Democratic politicians an opportunity to claim concealed carry is not effective, to claim more intrusive government policies are necessary to keep us safe, regardless of which city or state we call home.

Baltimore has witnessed approximately 299 homicides year-to-date, and Washington D.C. has witnessed approximately 128. When combined with Chicago, the death numbers in these three Democrat-run, highly gun-controlled cities account for well over 50 percent of the murder spike that will be credited to America’s 30 largest cities.

Black Panthers Leader Calls For “Deadly Force” Against WHITES

waving flagReported by Michael Becker

New Black Panther Party leader Malik Zulu Shabazz is calling for war against the police and whites. Shabazz made the call last week on “Black Power Radio,” the official network for the New Black Panther Party. He’s saying that black communities must be defended by armed blacks against police brutality.  He added, “We will defend ourselves as Malcolm said, ‘by any means necessary,’ and that the only option can not be non-violence,” he continued. “We have the right to defend ourselves with deadly force.”

In response, we’d like to make two points.  The first is that blacks have a Constitutional right to own and carry firearms and it’s not Conservatives that are afraid of blacks exercising that right, it’s the Progressives who are doing everything they can to keep blacks on the liberal plantation who are fighting them.I have a scheme

The second is simple.  Given the way the black community is responding to police presence, it’s time for the police to let them take care of their own.  Here’s Baltimore Police Chief Anthony Batts.

“At the same time, Mr. Batts said, violent crime in the Western District is “dramatically” outpacing other areas of the city, with 19 homicides and 51 shootings this year.

He said officers answering calls there are routinely surrounded by hostile crowds…”

The problem in the “black community” in Baltimore isn’t cops.  It’s the “community.”  Actually, it’s the lack of community.  It’s the lack of a real culture.  When you praise something you get more of it.  The “black community” celebrates thugs like Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown, and while we still don’t know what really happened to Freddie Gray in Baltimore, he was a convicted felon and a thug.  Baltimore cops may well have been out of line in their handling of him, we’ll find out, and if they broke the law – and only if they broke the law – they should go to prison. How to Kill a Memory MLK-Ferguson-600-LA

Baltimore had 39 homicides in May and we’ve got over a day to go. It’s a safe bet all of them were black and none of them were killed by either police or a white shooter.  We’re pretty sure Baltimore is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.  Cops know their police chief and their mayor don’t have their backs so they’re not about to put it all on the line.  That means the thugs own the streets.Desired Race War

You asked for it Baltimore, enjoy it.

And don’t try to export it to Phoenix, we’re MUCH better armed and we won’t hesitate to defend our homes and lives from thugs.  Try Chicago or New York City, they’ve got equally stupid strict gun laws.

PSA encourages kids to steal parents’ guns, hand over to teachers

A startling new anti-gun ad released by a San Francisco-based production company encourages children to commit a series of crimes by stealing their parents’ guns and turning them over to school officials, The Daily Caller reported Monday.

Sleeper 13 Productions released the controversial video on Dec. 13. It shows a pouty, young boy wandering into his parents’ bedroom, stealing a handgun out of their dresser drawer and then shoving it into his backpack.

The boy then carries what is presumably a loaded weapon into his classroom. After class, he approaches the teacher, takes the gun out of his backpack and slams it onto her desk.

“Can you take this away? I don’t feel safe with a gun in my house,” the boy says.

“Our children deserve a safe world,” the ad says. “Stop gun violence now.”more evidence

The video, first reported by The Blaze, has been met with sharp criticism from gun-rights activists on Sleeper 13’s Facebook page.

“Weapons theft, unlawful possession of a weapon by a minor, illegal concealed carry of a weapon, carrying a weapon onto school property, assault, and brandishing,” wrote Jerry Harlan.

On YouTube, the video had received more than 3,500 down votes, compared to its 31 up votes.

“Lot of people are afraid to share my PSA!” tweeted the ad’s director, Rejina Sincic. “If you are not a coward please share #gunviolence.”

Fred Rick Friedman questioned on Facebook: “So, when a child does this and accidentally kills himself or an innocent bystander, will Sleeper 13 Productions and Ragina Sincic be brought up on charges as an accessory? This has got to be one of the dumbest PSA’s put out by anti-gunners ever. Way to combat criminal violence…turn innocent children into felons.”

According to the credits, the video was shot at North Oakland Community Charter School in Oakland. The school’s executive director, Carolyn Gramstorff, told The Washington Times that officials did grant permission for the PSA to be shot there, but were not aware beforehand of its message. In light of the controversial video, she said the school is motivated to consider narrowing its screening process for allowing PSAs to be shot on campus.

A Perspective

George Washington regarding 2nd AmandmentToday I swung my front door wide open and placed my Remington 30.06 right in my doorway. I left 6 shells beside it, then left it alone and went about my business.

While I was gone, the mailman delivered my mail, the neighbor boy across the street mowed the yard, a girl walked her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped at the stop sign near the front of our house. After about an hour, I checked on the gun. It was still sitting there, right where I had left it. It hadn’t moved itself outside. It certainly hadn’t killed anyone, even with the numerous opportunities it had been presented to do so. In fact, it hadn’t even loaded itself. Well you can imagine my surprise, with all the media hype about how dangerous guns are and how they kill people. Either the media is wrong or I’m in possession of the laziest gun in the world.

The United States is 3rd in Murders throughout the World. But if you take out Chicago , Detroit , Washington DC and New Orleans , the United States is 4th from the bottom for Murders. These 4 Cities also have the toughest Gun Control Laws in the United States. All 4 are controlled by Democrats.   It would be absurd to draw any conclusions from this data – right?   Well, I’m off to check on my spoons – I hear they’re making people fat.

Al Sharpton’s Chicago Town Hall Erupts into Revolt Against Machine Politics

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/12/21/Al-Sharpton-s-Chicago-Town-Hall-Erupts-into-Revolt-against-Machine-Politics

by Rebel Pundit21 Dec 2013

On Thursday, a town hall meeting hosted by Al Sharpton and the National Action Network to address gun violence exploded into a revolt against “Chicago Machine” politics, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and the aldermen in City Hall, with panel and audience members calling to vote out their elected officials.

One 82-year-old preacher even called for “Tea Party” style meetings in some of Chicago’s south side communities such as Altgeld Gardens and Trumbull Park.

Chicago

“This was a historic event,” Paul McKinley of V.O.T.E. (Voices of the Ex-Offender) and former 2nd Congressional District GOP nominee to replace Jesse Jackson, Jr. told Breitbart News. “Not because of Al Sharpton coming to town,” he continued. “This was first time since electing Mayor Harold Washington in the eighties that all of these grassroots groups and community organizers have come together under one roof to talk about the problems plaguing our community.”

While the stated goal for Sharpton was to bring the many different groups together to discuss solutions to the city’s violence epidemic, he may not have gotten the types of responses he was looking for. Calls for more gun control laws and getting guns off the streets were nonexistent and not mentioned by residents throughout the session.

Instead, attendees offered solutions addressing the problems facing their community as a whole rather than just taking on “gun violence” itself. Audience members addressed the need for jobs and solving the foreclosure crisis plaguing Chicago’s south and west sides. Perhaps the loudest message—and one that Reverend Al or the Chicago media have yet to report on—echoed by several different people in attendance as well as panel members was that it is time for the black community to start voting differently.

“The manner in which we have been voting needs to change,” Wendy Pearson, an activist against Chicago school closings, told the room. “I’m here to say to you that we have been trained to vote in a specific manner… we need to start looking at the manner in which our elected officials have been voting… if they have not voted in a manner that is beneficial to you, yours, and your community, then you need to start voting them out.”

McKinley told the room, “Stop blaming just anybody for the violence in the city of Chicago. Blame the right people, not just white people, but the right people. Because it’s not just white folks a part of this, but it is on the fifth floor. The fifth floor took your schools, the fifth floor just took your jobs that he said that he gave to the ex-offender… and every single alderman was a part of this criminal process.”

McKinley called on President Obama to help the grassroots by discontinuing aid and government grants that go through Chicago’s political machine to “name-brand-blue-ribbon-negro-organizations” such as the NAACP and Urban League. McKinley told Breitbart News those groups “are poverty pimps, and are part of the problem and not the solution.”

CDC Releases Study on Gun Violence: Defensive gun use common, mass shootings not

Do fewer guns mean fewer deaths? Not necessarily, according to a study by the CDC. (Photo credit: ABC)

Parents are upset over gun violence. Kids are upset over having to hold up signs all day. (Photo credit: ABC News)

The Committee on Priorities for a Public Health Research Agenda to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-Related Violence, under the direction of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, recently published a study of findings related to violence and guns. Some of the results may come as a shock – to those on both sides of the gun control argument.

The study was conducted as part of the 23 Executive Actions signed by President Obama in January in an effort to reduce gun violence. The order specifically called to “issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.”

Some have posed the logical question as to why the CDC would become involved in such a study which focuses on gun violence when the priority of the agency lies in the preventing and control of diseases. The academic community chose to study gun violence as a public health problem, partly because, according to the study, “Violence, including firearm related violence, has been shown to be contagious.” Therefore, gun violence is being studied in the same manner of a contagious disease.

The study did, however, recognize the right to bear arms as a basic human right acknowledged by the United States Constitution.

“An individual’s right to own and possess guns was established in the U.S. Constitution and affirmed in the 2008 and 2010 Supreme Court rulings in District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. City of Chicago.”

The initial summary of the study reiterated the need for sound evidence from a scientific standpoint to produce public policies that will best support the rights of the people while still doing whatever possible to protect the public from potential threats of violence.

“The evidence generated by implementing a public health research agenda can enable the development of sound policies that support both the rights and the responsibilities central to gun ownership in the United States. In the absence of this research, policy makers will be left to debate controversial policies without scientifically sound evidence about their potential effects.”

While the problem of gun violence is multi-faceted with no one single solution, the study resulted in a whole plethora of useful information (the entire study can be read here).

There were five primary areas of interest on which the study focused: The characteristics of firearm violence, risk and protective factors, interventions and strategies, gun safety technology, and the influence of video games and other media.

It was found that there are vast differences in who is more likely to become a victim of gun violence, with primary factors lying in socioeconomic status and ethnicity. Homicide rates were shown to be significantly higher in African Americans, while suicide rates were higher in Caucasians.

Additionally, the study concluded that high rates of poverty, illicit drug trafficking and substance use all increase the risk of becoming involved in gun violence. In addition, “criminals often engage in violence as a means to acquire money, goods or other rewards.”

However, the study also inadvertently explored some of the myths surrounding what seems like a recent epidemic of gun violence, including accidental deaths and mass shootings.

According to the study, “Unintentional firearm-related deaths have steadily declined during the past century.” Accidental deaths resulting from firearms accounted for less than one percent of all unintentional fatalities in 2010.

“Mass shootings are a highly visible and moving tragedy, but represent only a small fraction of total firearm-related violence. … It is also apparent that some mass murder incidents are associated with suicides. However, the characteristics of suicides associated with mass murders are not understood.”

The study also explored an often overlooked statistic regarding suicide, especially among veterans. “Firearm-related suicides — though receiving far less public attention — significantly outnumber homicides for all age groups, with suicides accounting for approximately 60 percent of all firearm injury fatalities in the United States in 2009. In 2010, suicide was the 10th leading cause of death among individuals in the United States over the age of 10.”

Yet the study also looked at the effect of having firearms available for self-defense, and found that firearms are much more likely to be used in a defensive manner rather than for criminal or violent activity.

“Defensive uses of guns by crime victims is a common occurrence, although the exact number remains disputed. Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year, in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008.”

It was also discovered that when guns are used in self-defense the victims consistently have lower injury rates than those who are unarmed, even compared with those who used other forms of self-defense.

The study admitted that the results of interventions for reducing gun violence have been mixed, including strategies such as background checks and restriction of certain types of firearms, as well as having stricter penalties for illegal gun use. However, the study did reveal that “unauthorized gun possession or use is associated with higher rates of firearm violence than legal possession of guns.” In other words, law-breaking criminals are the ones most responsible for gun violence, not law-abiding citizens.

The study also looked at the source of guns used by most criminals, which helps to see partly why “there is empirical evidence that gun turn in programs are ineffective.”

“More recent prisoner surveys suggest that stolen guns account for only a small percentage of guns used by convicted criminals. …  According to a 1997 survey of inmates, approximately 70 percent of the guns used or possessed by criminals at the time of their arrest came from family or friends, drug dealers, street purchases, or the underground market.”

In reference to gun safety technology, the study claims that “research from the injury prevention field indicates that changing products to make them safer is frequently more effective at reducing injury and death than trying to change personal behavior.”

With the latest gun debate, there has been more emphasis placed on violent video games, movies and other media. However, the study’s findings on the influence of these things were inconclusive.

“The vast majority of research on the effects of violence in media has focused on violence portrayed in television and the movies, although more recent research has been expanded to include music, video games, social media, and the Internet. Interest in media effects is fueled by the fact that youth are spending more time engaging with media that portrays increasing amounts of violence. Although research on the effects of media violence on real-life violence has been carried out for more than 50 years, none of this research has focused on firearm violence in particular as an outcome. As a result, a direct relationship between violence in media and real-life firearm violence has not been established and additional research is necessary.”

The results of this study were surprisingly unbiased for the most part and closely resemble the findings from a similar study conducted following the Federal Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, in which the CDC concluded that there was “insufficient evidence to determine the effectiveness of any of the firearms laws reviewed for preventing violence.”
