WATCH: Heroic Bro Rescues Dogs From LOCKED Cage In Flo’s Rising Flood Waters

Reported By K. Walker |

This is both awesome and horrific at the same time. It’s wonderful that these dogs were rescued, but it’s absolutely terrible that they needed to be.

Six dogs were abandoned by their owner and left in a locked cage as flood waters rose following Hurricane Florence.

Flooding in North Carolina had reached 4 feet on Sunday, and the water is still rising.

Video of the heroic rescue has gone viral and shows the dogs barking and standing on their hind legs, desperate for someone to let them out of the cage.

The dogs were rescued from a property in Leland, North Carolina where their owners left them as they fled Hurricane Florence, without thinking of how the animals would fare in the violent storm.

Source: Daily Mail

Who leaves dogs caged to weather a hurricane on their own?

Fortunately, not everyone is so callous.

Watch the beautiful moment when the dogs were rescued:

Ryan Nichols of Longview, Texas rescued the dogs by wading into the knee-deep flood water and releasing them from the cage.

The dogs were on their hind legs howling and desperate to be let out.

Once the cage was opened, the dogs swam out whimpering and howling. They then headed for a nearby wooded area and rescuers followed them.

When you have animals, you sign on to take care of them, and when a big storm is heading your way, they’re still your responsibility.

Don’t leave your dogs to fend for themselves — especially in a hurricane!

Kudos to Ryan Nichols and all of the others that are rescuing animals that were abandoned by their owners.

We need more heroes like this.

The Alarming Findings of a New Study on Transgender Teens and Suicide

A new study highlights the danger of society’s rushing to affirm adolescents and teens who identify as transgender. (Photo: Erik McGregor/Sipa USA/Newscom)

The study, “Transgender Adolescent Suicide Behavior,” was published in Pediatrics, the official peer-reviewed journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics. It raises serious questions about how families, schools, doctors, government, and the media should grapple with the increasing number of children and teens who self-identify as transgender.

In addition to the alarmingly high rate of suicide attempts among transgender boys, the study reported an attempted-suicide rate of over 40 percent for adolescents who identify as gender nonconforming (neither exclusively male or female) and nearly 30 percent for transgender girls (children and teens who were born male but identify as female).

Researchers said they did not find any evidence that transgender youth of color were at a higher risk compared with white transgender adolescents. Higher levels of education among parents and geographical location—urban or rural—did not have a significant effect on suicide attempts.

To arrive at the results, three researchers from the University of Arizona analyzed a survey filled out by more than 120,000 young Americans between the ages of 11 and 19.

By comparison, they found that 14 percent of all teenagers had attempted suicide at least once.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide is the second-leading cause of death among adolescents and young adults ages 10 to 34 in the U.S.

The study’s leading author, Russell B. Toomey, focuses his work on youth who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or what they call queer—meaning that any attempts to discredit the research as “anti-LGBTQ” will likely fall flat.

Toomey describes his research in his bio:

Largely, my research has examined these relationships with explicit attention to the minority-specific stressors of prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination that contribute to the disparate rates of negative outcomes experienced by sexual and gender diverse adolescents and Latinx youth, and the protective factors (e.g., family support, acceptance) that buffer these associations.

Latinx” is a gender-neutral term that some use instead of Latino or Latina.

The new study comes on the heels of another alarming and controversial one examining the contagious nature of transgender ideology.

That study, published Tuesday in the journal PLOS One by Brown University’s Lisa Littman, looked at “rapid-onset gender dysphoria”—that is, gender dysphoria not present in early youth but that manifested within days or weeks in teens and young adults. Littman found that exposure to peers who identified as transgender and transgender-positive content online may contribute to development of this rapid-onset gender dysphoria.

Within days, Brown University pulled down an article promoting Littman’s study. The university said it removed the article in order to conduct an academic review, but it’s clear the decision had more to do with political correctness and uncomfortable results.

Unlike “Transgender Adolescent Suicide Behavior,” Littman’s study wasn’t peer-reviewed. Littman herself concluded that her study “raises questions for more research.”

“One of the main conclusions is that more research needs to be done,” she said.

The study by Toomey and fellow University of Arizona researchers Amy K. Syvertsen and Maura Shramko provides further evidence that research institutions should encourage more studies in this area—not shut them down. At this point, we don’t just know that lives are at stake—we know how many lives are at stake.

And those numbers deserve repeating:

One in two biological girls who identify as boys tried to kill themselves in the past year.

Two in five gender-nonconforming adolescents tried to kill themselves.

And three in 10 biological boys who identify as girls tried to kill themselves.

In discussing these results, Toomey described an “urgent need to understand why transgender, female to male, and nonbinary adolescents report engaging in suicide behavior at higher levels than other adolescent transgender populations.”

He’s right. But that’s just the first of many questions this study begs to be answered.

There’s no excuse. You can’t be an ally of the transgender movement and reject this research. You can challenge it. You can debate it. You can encourage more of it. But you can’t suppress it. Doing so is harmful to the cause you claim to defend.

Every day, more and more children and teens are identifying as transgender. That’s a fact that The Atlantic captured well:

In June 2016, the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law estimated that 1.4 million adults in the U.S. identify as transgender, a near-doubling of an estimate from about a decade earlier. As of 2017, according to the institute, about 150,000 teenagers ages 13 to 17 identified as trans. The number of young people seeking clinical services appears to be growing as well. A major clinic in the United Kingdom saw a more than 300 percent increase in new referrals over the past three years.

With more teens identifying as transgender, and attempted-suicide rates for this group between 30 and 51 percent, this has become a national epidemic. The time for political correctness has passed.

Families, schools, doctors, government, and the media have an obligation to figure out how to differentiate between celebrating differences and encouraging dangerous behavior. Because if being transgender poses such a grave risk to adolescent lives, it’s hard to understand why any sane society would embrace the trend.

Police: Democrat Ended Political Argument by Driving to Man’s Home, Opening Fire

Reported By Kara Pendleton | September 12, 2018 at

2:46pm

Brian Sebring of Tampa, Florida, was arrested last month for allegedly shooting a man who he had a political disagreement with on social media. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Perhaps when President Barack Obama, known for being divisive, left office, some held out hope for a more unified nation. Instead, there has been a ramping up of not only violent political rhetoric, but acts of violence, as well. Social media has been one place where that aggression has been seen surging. Take the example of a political disagreement on social media that resulted in a Florida man being shot.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, 44-year-old Brian Sebring — a registered Democrat — and Facebook friend Alex Stephens, 46, a convicted felon with no political registration, got into an online dispute last month involving politics. It ended with Sebring driving to Stephens’ home and shooting him.

“After receiving several explicit messages and threats, the defendant responded to the victim’s home to confront him (regarding) the messages,” according to a police report cited by the Tampa Bay Times. Sebring was arrested and told police that Stephens had threatened him, so he drove to his home in order to confront him.

However, Sebring took a Glock, in a waistband holster, and an AR-15 with him when he went to confront Stephens. After arriving at Stephen’s home, Sebring allegedly honked his truck horn and waited outside of the vehicle for Stephens. Stephens went outside and allegedly “charged at” Sebring. It was at this point that Sebring allegedly opened fire, hitting Stephens in the buttocks.

Despite Stephens fleeing and Sebring leaving the scene, police ultimately found and arrested Sebring for the shooting. He was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed firearm. His bail was set at $9,500.

“I’m not a bad guy,” Sebring said in an interview with the Tampa Bay Times a few days after the incident. “But I mean, this guy threatened to hurt my family, and I went off the deep end. I wasn’t thinking right. You know, after this I’m going to go see a therapist or something, man, because that’s some scary s—, that I could lose my temper like that and do something so stupid.”

The exact topic of the men’s dispute is not known, other than it had to do with politics. What we do know is that in the current political climate, violent rhetoric and violent acts are on the rise. And that makes it even more fool-hardy for anyone to make threats.

What we also know is that, overall, the violence is being perpetrated more heavily in one direction. And those violent threats and acts are leaning heavily against those on the right.

Breitbart has reported that instances ofviolence against the right are increasing as media outlets “amp up hate-rhetoric against Trump.” In July, Breitbart began documenting “acts of media-approved violence and harassment against Trump supporters.” The running total is now up to 564.

In mid-July, The Gateway Pundit noted that Breitbart’s running total at that time was just over 300. This means that in  approximately two month’s time, the number has almost doubled. And more reports of violence continue to pour in.

It has long-since gone beyond an increase in violent threats on social media to actual attacks in real life.

Meanwhile, few on the left have said anything to discourage such behavior. Some, such as Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters, have been blamed for amping up the hate and violence.

Some believe the incitement is intentional, with the ultimate goal being that of a civil war. Others point to mental disorders on a mass scale, with such tags as “liberalism” and “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

While such labels are sometimes used in jest, the injuries sustained by victims of the violence is no laughing matter. Something needs to be done and it needs to include Democratic leadership and media taking responsibility.

Violent rhetoric and violent acts against political opponents are not OK. This should be something both sides of the political aisle can agree upon and commit to fighting against. What actually happens, as reports continue to pour in and public outrage continues to grow, is yet to be seen.

What These 6 University of Iowa Students Say About Mollie Tibbetts’ Death

“It was just getting a lot of media attention, which almost kind of made me uncomfortable because it almost became kind of a public spectacle rather than [being about] finding her,” student Iris Ho says about Mollie Tibbetts’ disappearance. (Photo: Rachel del Guidice)

IOWA CITY, IOWA—For students who attend the University of Iowa, the beginning of the school year brought the tragic news of their classmate Mollie Tibbetts’ death.

Tibbetts’ body was found Tuesday in a corn field in Poweshiek County, Iowa.

Tibbetts, a 20-year-old psychology major who would have begun her junior year this fall, was last seen July 18 jogging in Brooklyn, Iowa, her hometown.

The Daily Signal went to the University of Iowa to speak with students there.

  1. ‘It Can Definitely Happen Again and That’s the Scary Part’

Jordan Gringer (Photo: Rachel del Guidice)

Jordan Gringer, 22, a senior at the University of Iowa, said Tibbetts’ death could have been prevented.

Police announced Tuesday that Cristhian Bahena Rivera, 24, was charged with first-degree murder in the Tibbetts case. Although Rivera’s lawyer claims he was in the United States legally, Rivera is “an illegal alien from Mexico,” said Shawn Neudauer, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman for Iowa.

“It really goes back to enforcing the immigration laws,” Gringer told The Daily Signal. “Making sure that those who shouldn’t be here, aren’t here. It’s really that simple. The fact that some people are even making this a political issue quite frankly is concerning because it shouldn’t be.”

Enforcing the law is not politics, Gringer said, but “common sense.”

“It’s just safety,” Gringer said. “It’s just common sense that those who shouldn’t be here, shouldn’t be here. Especially those who are criminals. All of this easily could have been prevented if our immigration laws were enforced.”

The media, Gringer said, should “not ignore the story, [as] some outlets are trying to do.”

The Iowa City native said he is concerned that a similar situation could be repeated.

“It absolutely can happen again,” said Gringer. “Basically anywhere. As long as we have our immigration laws that aren’t being enforced and there are people … I mean this guy was apparently in the state for four to seven years and nobody really knew. So yeah, it can definitely happen again and that’s the scary part.”

  1. ‘Always Watch Your Surroundings, Make Sure That You Have Each Others’ Back’

Tianna Torrejon (Photo: Rachel del Guidice)

Tianna Torrejon, a sophomore, said Rivera’s employers should have been more careful about checking his legal status.

Yarrabee Farms, which employed Rivera, “clarified Tuesday afternoon that the farm did not use a federal E-Verify check on suspect Cristhian Rivera,” Fox News reported. E-Verify is a system that allows employers to electronically check the immigration status of workers.

“I think everyone should be accounted for—we have to do our double check, even if he had a background check, make sure he goes through extensive checks,” she said.

The 18-year-old said Tibbetts’ death “is affecting the student body hugely.” She added:

I guess it just means we need to take more precautions about what is going on in the world and always watch your surroundings, make sure that you have each others’ back.

I think Mollie, just from seeing her on social media … always make new friends, smile at people, give them a pat on the back if anything, make sure that their day is OK, and always be there for them.

You don’t know what they are going through.

  1. ‘An Issue With How Men in Our Country Can Treat Women’

Andrew DeGaetano (Photo: Rachel del Guidice)

Andrew DeGaetano, a senior, said Tibbetts’ alleged murder’s legal status was irrelevant.

“Personally, I don’t believe that that has any relevance to the fact that she was attacked by this man,” DeGaetano said. “I think it’s more of an issue with how men in our country can treat women.”

Asked about the E-Verify status not being checked by Rivera’s employer, the 21-year-old said that there is room to reform immigration law to prevent similar tragedies.

“I guess overall they should streamline the process for people coming into country legally,” he said.

  1. ‘People Grew Numb … Because of How Often It Was Being Shown on the Media’

Iris Ho (Photo: Rachel del Guidice)

Iris Ho, a sophomore, said she was particularly concerned with how Tibbetts’ situation was sensationalized.

“My first reaction was that I was more worried than anything,” Ho said. “When it first came out before her death, it was just kind of scary that something like that was happening.”

“It was just getting a lot of media attention, which almost kind of made me uncomfortable because it almost became kind of a public spectacle rather than [being about] finding her,” she added.

“After awhile it was becoming something that people grew numb to because of how often it was being shown on the media.”

  1. ‘When I Found Out That It Was an Undocumented Person [I Knew] That the Right Wing Was Going to Pick It Up’

Eddie Garcia, a sophomore, said, “We have to teach men, when a woman says no, we have to respect them.” Eddie Garcia (Photo: Rachel del Guidice)

“We have to understand their body language and when they’re uncomfortable. We just have to teach men that it’s not OK, not everything is yours. It’s OK to be rejected. And I just feel like we’re not teaching men enough at all about that.”

Initially, when he heard about Tibbetts’ death, Garcia said he was “a little shocked at first and worried for myself, considering I’m of Hispanic descent.”

“I know that times are politically charged right now, especially with the Trump administration first tweeting about that,” Garcia added. “So I was a little shocked at first because I know they have huge policies on immigration and whatnot, so I knew absolutely when I found out that it was an undocumented person that the right wing was going to pick it up, as well as the left wing, of course, but I just knew it was going to go into chaos.”

He said Tibbetts’ murder is a reminder for people to be aware and concerned for those around them.

“I just want everyone to know, please, watch out for your friends, be more careful with them, and just tell everyone before you leave, ‘Have a good one, be safe,’—you never know if you’ll see that person again.”

  1. ‘It’s Kind of Sad to Say, but Never Go Anywhere Alone’

Katie Peck (Photo: Rachel del Guidice)

Katie Peck, a freshman, said Tibbetts’ death has prompted her to give more attention to her personal safety on campus and elsewhere.

“It’s kind of sad to say, but never go anywhere alone—maybe go to the gym instead of running by yourself,” Peck said.

“It definitely made me more aware of who exactly is around me at all times, especially when walking to the bus at night,” she said.

Boy Sits in School Hallway Crying. Officer Sits Down Beside Him & Tells Him He is ‘Loved’

Reported By Kim Davis | August 11, 2018 at 11:46am

“Those that do the most, those that go above and beyond are those that are rarely recognized.”

The heartfelt words from Phoenix resident Edna Guerrero were in response to a beautiful moment she witnessed between an emotional boy and a school resource officer.

Guerrero has long witnessed the humble actions of school resource officer Rusty Baubie.

He’s always on the lookout for the well-being of the students he’s promised to serve and protect.

Baubie tends to shrug off his daily acts of kindness, Guerrero explained, saying that he’s just doing his job.

But after Guerrero witnessed the gentle manner in which Baubie responded to an inconsolable student at school, she felt like he deserved some public recognition.

Baubie happened to be in the right place at the right time. He saw, and heard, a student screaming and crying desperately in the hallway.

The boy collapsed to the floor, sobbing with his head buried into his knees.

At that moment, the boy seemed to be overwhelmed by self-loathing, audibly vocalizing the terrible thoughts running through his mind.

“A student was having a difficult time, was screaming and inconsolably crying, saying sad and negative things about himself,” Guerrero wrote on Facebook. “This officer looked through the eyes of this student and immediately showed mercy.”

Baubie took a seat next to the crying boy and saw him for who he was: just a kid who was desperate for love, and in need of an encouraging word.

“This officer spoke softly to the student letting him know that he did matter, that he was important, that he was loved,” Guerrero said.

“This officer helped this student understand that we all make mistakes and that those mistakes do not define who we are and we just learn from them and move on.”

Sgt. Armando Carbajal, a public information officer at the Phoenix Police Department, said Baubie has been with the police force for 13 years. Baubie is a husband, father, and described as a very humble man.

“Police officers are there to provide safety and to teach,” Carbajal said. “But this was one duty that you can’t put on paper.”

3 Kids School Shopping with Military Uncle After Mom Dies Blessed by Elderly Couple

Reported By Kayla Kunkel | August 7, 2018 at 4:02pm

It’s easy to get caught up in our day to day routines, forgetting that the people who surround us have their own stories and struggles.

But by doing this, we could be missing out on opportunities to lend a helping hand to someone in need. It only takes a second to be a little more observant, and the results could make a huge impact.

A story shared by an Alabama woman is the perfect example of why this is important.

Angela O’Neal Jacks was shopping at her local Dollar Tree in Gardendale, Alabama, on July 31, 2018, when she noticed a man shopping for school supplies with three children.

Dollar Tree

A Dollar Tree store is seen on July 28, 2014 in Miami, Florida. Dollar Tree announced it will buy Family Dollar Stores for about $8.5 billion in cash and stock. (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images)

He was checking over a school supply list with the kids and was apologizing that they had to shop at a discount store to get some of the items, but the kids continued to be “cheerful and nothing but thankful.”

Angela decided to give a little friendly advice by telling the man that he could purchase better quality pencil boxes for the same price at a different store.

The stranger was thankful for the information and shared that the children had just lost their mother three weeks prior. He was their uncle and had taken the kids in when no one else stepped up to take care of them.

The military man had no idea just how expensive back-to-school items were going to be; he just knew he needed to take care of his late sister’s kids.

“(He) said they had needed complete wardrobes, backpacks, supplies etc. He was overwhelmed and also upset about the Dollar Tree, but was doing the best he could,” she wrote.

Angela was about to take his list and give him more money-saving tips when an elderly couple approached them.

They said, “Sir, we have overheard your conversation. We were wondering if you would put all of this back and meet us at Wal-mart? We’d like to purchase all of their supplies, clothes, shoes and backpacks.”

“We’d like to thank you for your service to our country and to these kids,” they continued.

The man and three kids were extremely grateful. Angela said there were “tears everywhere.”

In the middle of thank you’s and tears, one of the children piped up and said, “Can we get an MP3 player, too?”

Angela’s heart melted and she quickly responded, “You sure can, sweetheart.”

She told Liftable (a brand of Western Journal) that as a mother of four, she knew how disheartening it can be to not own something most other kids at school do. “They had just lost their mother. I wanted to bring a little joy,” she said.

Angela also wrote a Facebook post detailing the precious interaction hoping that it inspires others to take a second to notice those around them and be ready to lend a helping hand.

Meeting this sacrificial man and learning more about his story served as a sweet reminder for her.

She told Liftable, “It reminds me that we never know what someone else is going through and that we should be ready to help those in need in whatever way we are able.”

Kids Caught on Camera at Stranger’s Doorstep After Finding Wallet with $700 Inside

Reported By Amanda Thomason | July 27, 2018 at 8:25am

Nigel Drake got home from work and was carrying some things from his car to his house in Aurora, Colorado on July 18. He must have had his hands full because he didn’t notice that he’d dropped something rather important.

“I was carrying stuff in, I guess I dropped my wallet outside, and I didn’t know about it,” he later recalled.

His wallet. It was lying in the driveway, abandoned, waiting for somebody to notice it.

At some point, three kids were biking by, and the oldest one spotted the lonely wallet. She paused, set down her bike and went over to it.

Maybe she opened it, maybe she didn’t. Maybe she had a brief moment of indecision, but it seems like she did not.

Aside from the usual suspects — credit cards, IDs and the like — the wallet contained $700 cash. Even adults would be tempted by that. But not this girl.

She went up to the front door with a friend and her little brother trailing behind her and rang the doorbell, which triggered a message and recording.

“Hi, we can’t answer the door right now but the camera is recording,” a voice said. “So, please just leave us a message. Thanks for coming by.”

“We found your wallet outside of your car and we just thought we’d give it back to you. So, I don’t know,” she said as she looked around at the porch.

“I’m going to put it over here, so no one takes any money.” She set it down in a discreet spot, and the three raced off, hopping on their bikes and disappearing.

That would have been the end of the interaction, except that Nigel Drake’s dad saw the footage and showed his son. Drake was impressed.

“I watched the video, and it was just these nice three kids that just decided to do the nice thing,” he said. “It was very heartening to feel.”

Wanting to recognize these stand-up kids, Drake’s father posted the video on Facebook with a plea to help him get in touch with the young good Samaritans.

A relative of the kids recognized them and contacted them. The girl who’d returned the wallet, Haylie Wenke, and her little brother, Reagan Wenke, had been located!

“It wasn’t our money, and we didn’t really need it, so we just gave it back,” Haylie said as if the matter were plain as day. “If you see something that someone left or dropped, to always give it back and do the right thing,”

Drake was certainly touched by their honesty, and many people who have seen the clip have been impressed with the actions of the kids — it’s nice to see a video about kids doing something positive these days.

“It gives you faith in humanity a little bit that there are good kids out there,” he reflected. “These kids’ parents are raising them the right way.”
