Teachers Union Holds Schools Hostage Until Police Are Defunded, Charter Schools Shut Down

Reported By Ryan Foley | Published July 13, 2020 at 12:48pm

The United Teachers Los Angeles has released a list of demands that it argues must be met before schools can reopen in America’s second-largest city. While some of the proposals might seem reasonable in light of the coronavirus pandemic, others sound like they were crafted by New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Members of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s teachers union apparently have adapted Rahm Emanuel’s phrase “never let a good crisis go to waste” as their slogan. At the very least, the policy paper put together by the United Teachers Los Angeles containing its insane demands illustrates just how political teachers unions have become.

The 35,000-member teachers union sees the coronavirus as a perfect opportunity to demand the enactment of a far-left agenda that it supported long before COVID-19 arrived in America. According to the political activists at the helm of UTLA, “The Safe and Equitable Conditions for Starting LAUSD in 2020-21” include;

  • the defunding of police,

  • a federal bailout of LA schools and

  • the abolition of charter schools.

While the document acknowledged that “the CARES and HEROES Acts provided funding for K-12,” it complained that the district still needed more money. In addition, the section on the desired “Federal Support” for reopening LAUSD schools included a demand for “Medicare for All.”

As for the section on “State Support,” the document calls on the state of California to implement a “millionaire’s tax” and a “wealth tax.” While the teachers seem quite confident that the massive redistribution of wealth would result in much-desired revenue, they failed to take into account the fact that many millionaires would flee the state the second the higher taxes were imposed.

UTLA Conditions by The Western Journal on Scribd

The most ridiculous demands came in the section on “Local Support.” Calling on local leaders to “defund police,” the brains behind the left-wing wish list urged elected officials to “shift the astronomical amount of money devoted to policing, to education and other essential needs such as housing and public health.”

Apparently, the people behind the UTLA paper aren’t bothered by the fact that homicides in their city rose by 250 percent in the first week of June as anti-law enforcement sentiment first swept through major American cities.

This shouldn’t come as much of a shock. Last month, Cecily Myart-Cruz, the union’s president, described the police as a symbol of “white supremacy” that needed to be dismantled.

Not surprisingly, the document had few kind words for charter schools, which teachers unions see as an enormous threat to their monopolistic power. UTLA said it wants a “charter moratorium,” but this radical list of demands should make Los Angeles parents who do not subscribe to the dictates of cultural marxism want to send their children to charter schools more than ever.

No document filled with left-wing demands would be complete without a call for “Financial Support for Undocumented Students and Families.”

It looks like President Donald Trump had it right when he declared that “the Democrats don’t want to open schools in the Fall for political reasons.”

This document should make Americans eternally grateful for the 2018 Janus decision in which the Supreme Court ruled that “public employees will no longer be required to pay involuntary agency fees to special-interest groups.” Nothing epitomizes the phrase “special-interest group” like a teachers union, which uses those agency fees to fund far-left groups such as the Center for American Progress and Media Matters.

The release of the UTLA demands comes just weeks before school is set to resume in Los Angeles on Aug. 18.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has made it clear to the nation’s governors that at the beginning of the next school year, “School must reopen, they must be fully operational.” For the most part, she is right. Schools should reopen in the fall.

However, in a place like Los Angeles, where advancing a political agenda is more important to the teachers than educating the next generation, parents should seriously consider homeschooling or sending their children to a charter or private school. Only then will liberal activists moonlighting as teachers in Los Angeles and other parts of the country get the message that many Americans do not support the push among some schools to reject “objectivity” in favor of indoctrinating America’s students with left-wing propaganda.

Don’t Follow Lock-down Orders? Get Your Water, Power SHUT OFF in This City!

Posted By Paul Duke | March 26, 2020

While the threat of COVID-19 remains very real, there are many Americans who have found themselves alarmed by some of the more authoritarian precautions being taken in our land of the free.

Tonight, around our nation, cities and towns will be enforcing mandatory and so-called “voluntary” curfews.  Businesses have been shuttered.  Hell, even some streets have been closed.

On the deeper, dingier parts of the internet there is talk of a “boogaloo” or of martial law coming to our cities.  While this speculation may be nothing more than some mildly annoying sensationalism, in Los Angeles, things certainly seem to be headed in a spooky direction.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti threatened “non-essential” businesses Tuesday that if they do not obey the city’s “stay at home”orderto close during the pandemic crises, he will cut off their water and their electricity.

Speaking at his daily briefing, the mayor described his new enforcement initiative (via KTLA 5):

The mayor went on to announce the “business ambassadors program”— an effort to get nonessential businesses to close.

“This behavior is irresponsible and selfish,” he said of those that remain open.

He said the Department of Water and Power will shut off services for the businesses that don’t comply with the “safer at home” ordinance.

Neighborhood prosecutors will implement safety measures and will contact the businesses before issuing further action, according to Garcetti.

“The easiest way to avoid a visit is to follow the rules,” he said.

The only weapon that the human race has to use against coronavirus is “social distancing”, in which we will work to starve the virus by ending its spread.

Obviously, some locales are taking this more seriously than others.

I know that what I am about to say will not be received by many people. This is just my observation based on years of reporting on politics and politicians. I certainly do not claim to be any form of an expert. I have an opinion based on what I’ve known to be true.

The is an old saying, “Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” History has proved that saying true countless times. For some people, given absolute power goes to their ego’s and they run wild with their absolute control. It always requires some form of force to make it stop, or to remove them from power.

In recent years as the democrats have moved steadily left toward socialism, their thirst for control has grown too. We’ve seen that most obviously here in California. Our state is firmly in the fist of socialist who continue to pass more and more draconian laws. Taxes increased, freedoms diminished, bureaucracy has grown exponentially and ask any business about regulations and regulators.

When all the “recommendations” of “social distancing” came out, the felling was one of suggestion, not “martial law” orders. The “Stay at home” “suggestion” seemed reasonable. Made since and most people complied because of the reasonable logic of the “request.

“Suggestion” and “urging” has become “demand or else” orders, including arresting people, and/or slapping them with be fines. That begs some questions;

  • When did any legislature meet to write, and pass laws for any governing authority to force citizens to remain confined to their homes?
  • Then, how is any policing authority going to enforce laws that do not exist?
  • Now that they have us confined in our homes, what is the next draconian step to remove more freedoms?
  • When does it end?

As I am writing this I have the television on and they just played a snip-it of a politician threatening their citizens of severe repercussions if they don’t comply to “orders“. That’s NOT suggestion, plea or desire. That’s tyrannical orders. Yes, I know they are concerned about this virus, yet they never show the same concern over annual flu season that has proven to kill more people.

Yes, there are many people in our country that rebel against authority. Yes. There are people who will do what they want to do regardless of any appeal. Draconian practices are not the answer. Using fear and intimidation to control the populace has been used by governing authorities for centuries. That’s what makes me suspicious of the Eric Garcetti’s and Gavin Newsome’s, and any other authority that makes demands with threats they cannot back up with law.

I am suspicious of all politicians.  History is on my side.

That’s it. Got it off my chest. I don’t want to add to anyone’s fears.

God Bless.

What if the Coronavirus Hits the Homeless Camps in California

Posted by

California officials are getting pretty worried that the coronavirus could hit the homeless camps in California. A homeless carrier would present peculiar problems for doctors trying to get the disease under control. The homeless lives in tight quarters and do not have easy access to good hygiene They also have a tendency to move around and thus could spread the disease much further than the typical person.

With the huge number of rats in the camps, it makes it even more likely that the disease could spread far and fast. And in cities the size of LA and San Francisco, a huge number of people could be affected.

Peter Beilenson, director of health services for Sacramento County said:

“I was thinking about it when I was in the … shower [on Thursday] morning, literally. We’ve been checking on the schools and on the nursing homes and on healthcare facilities, etc., and so I was thinking, ‘What about the homeless?’”

From The LA Times

Beilenson and others said homeless people present unique risks and challenges for outbreaks of infectious diseases. Though the number of coronavirus cases remains at only a few dozen in the United States, homeless people, in particular, for multiple reasons could be vulnerable to both a quick spread of the illness and to more severe cases.

People living outdoors often do so in close quarters and lack the ability to maintain basic hygiene, including precautions such as hand washing. They may also face more danger from serious infection because of existing illnesses or frequent use of drugs or alcohol — factors with the potential to make a case of COVID-19 more severe.

Some homeless people also move often, making them both hard to reach for treatment and potentially increasing the spread of the virus if they are carriers.

“Unfortunately, we know that people living in crowded, unsanitary conditions are at increased risk for a variety of infectious diseases,” said Dr. Jeffrey Klausner, professor of medicine and public health at UCLA. “This is definitely a population … with other chronic medical conditions, so should they acquire coronavirus, they are potentially at risk for more serious complications.”

Doctor Issues Warning: Leprosy In Los Angeles

Thank you open borders Democrats. Between 100 and 200 cases of leprosy have been recorded over the last year. A USC study discovered that most of the 187 patients with leprosy who were treated at its clinic between 1973 to 2018 came from Mexico where the disease is widespread. The disease is also found in Central and South America. The disease was unknown in the United States but is now making a comeback and it seems to be hitting the homeless in Los Angeles particularly hard.

Dr. Marc Siegel, a professor of medicine and medical director at Doctor Radio at NYU Langone Health is warning about the spread of disease as it comes across the American border undetected.

Siegel said:

“Given that, there is certainly the possibility of sporadic cases of leprosy continuing to be brought across our southern border undetected.”

From Medical Daily

The occurrence lead Dr. Siegel to issue a warning that the contagious disease that is spread by respiratory secretions and nasal droplets in close proximities will soon affect nearly 60,000 homeless people, 75 percent of whom lack temporary shelter or enough hygiene and medical care, in Los Angeles.
The Daily Mail reported that leprosy or also known as Hansen’s disease, affecting 250,000 people worldwide yearly, is caused by the bacteria called Mycobacterium leprae. It attacks the nerves in the body, thus results to the ‘peeling’ characteristic of the skin as per the CDC.
If the disease is left untreated, it could progress to paralysis of the hands and feet.
“I am much more concerned about the permanent disabilities that come with leprosy — given that 2 million to 3 million people are affected worldwide — than I am with the associated stigma,” Dr. Siegel said.
Leprosy occurring among the homeless in L.A. is a certain formula for instant public panic, he added.
Yet another epidemic transpired with the spiraling homeless problem in Los Angeles – typhus.
A report in June by the Los Angeles Times noted that the CatsUSA Pest Control surveyed areas outside of the City Hall and nearby buildings and cautioned that homeless people are creating “harborage for rodents.”

Church Vandalized In An Attempt To Silence Their Complaints

A California church found out the hard way that the LGBTQ community does not take kindly to an opposing view. South Bay Pentecostal Church was vandalized after a pastor complained that “Drag Queen Storytime” with children is inappropriate.

A Los Angeles area church was vandalized over the weekend after opposing city-run events where men dressed in drag read books to children at public libraries.
A pastor of the South Bay Pentecostal Church said he believes “there is no doubt” the crime was committed against the house of worship for their opposition to “Drag Queen Storytime,” according to ABC 10 News San Diego.
The incident is being investigated by police as a possible hate crime.
“Sure enough, at every corner, there were phrases, hateful words, and graffiti on the walls of our church,” said pastor Amado Huizar. The messages were reportedly “associated with Satan,” according to the ABC affiliate.
“Huizar said the church’s surveillance system captured two men parking their sedan in the church parking lot at around 3:00 a.m. Sunday and walking toward the building,” the report detailed. “Fifteen minutes later, they are seen jumping back into the car with what looked to be spray cans in their hands.”

Huizer has been vocal in his opposition to taxpayer-funded drag queen events for children, deeming them age-inappropriate.”

“If the people want to make that happen, do it at a private setting, at a book store or at a home, but not at the Chula Vista Public Library,” Huizar said.
“I’m all about diversity. I am all about inclusiveness,” Huizar said. “When you do something like a ‘drag queen story hour,’ you are excluding a segment of the populous who are not in favor of this because of what we experienced today or scared to speak out.”

Despite what happened, Huizar said he will not back down.

“I’m very sad,” Huizar said. “I’m heartbroken, but I am going to continue to speak.”

The LGBTQ and Liberals are supposedly all about the rights of people but when someone makes one complaint or speaks a concern, they are targetted. This is just another example of the left and their divisive nature, where it is their way or the highway. But this is only natural for a true blue state like California.

New Report Shows Leprosy on the Rise in Los Angeles County

Reported by

Thank you, Democrats, Without your open borders, leprosy would still be on the decline in the United States.

But a recent report shows that leprosy is on the rise in Los Angeles.

The report found that the majority of leprosy patients are Hispanic with most of them coming from Mexico.

My idea would be to force Democratic politicians to house illegal aliens for 30 days as a quarantine period.

That way if someone does catch a disease coming through our porous borders, it will be those responsible for them and not the innocents who don’t live behind walls.

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Leprosy, also known as Hansen’s disease, is rarely seen in the United States, but cases continue to emerge in Los Angeles County, a new report says.

“Hansen’s disease still exists, and we need to educate medical students and physicians,” coauthor Dr. Maria Teresa Ochoa from Keck Medical Center of the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, told Reuters Health by email. Dr. Ochoa and colleagues identified 187 patients with the disease in a review of medical records from their leprosy clinic spanning 1973 to 2018. Most patients were Latino, originating from Mexico, and they experienced a median delay in diagnosis of more than three years, the team reports JAMA Dermatology, online August 7.

Multibacillary leprosy (MB) cases outnumbered paucibacillary leprosy (PB) cases by nearly eight to one (88.6% vs. 11.4%, respectively), and Latino patients were more likely than non-Latino patients to have MB, as were patients from Central or South America (versus other regions). Most patients (80.7%) received multidrug therapy, and most (92.6%) received antibiotics for more than two years, especially if they had MB.

Only about half of patients (56.7%) had World Health Organization (WHO) grade 0 disability (no signs or symptoms suggestive of leprosy or disability) at the one-year follow-up, whereas 16.0% had grade 1 disability (loss of protective sensation) and 26.2% had grade 2 disability (visible deformity) at the last follow-up. Among the patients who lost protective sensation, 87.7% (50/57) did not regain it following therapy.

“Early diagnosis is very important,” Dr. Ochoa concluded, adding that “we need to fight the stigma” associated with the disease.

In a related paper, also online August 7 in JAMA Dermatology, Dr. Victor S. Santos of the Federal University of Alagoas, in Arapiraca, Brazil, and colleagues report the results of their systematic review and meta-analysis of risk factors for physical disability in patients with leprosy. They identified male sex, MB leprosy, leprosy reactions and lepromatous presentations as significant independent risk factors for physical disability.

Dr. Santos told Reuters Health, “The WHO Global Leprosy Strategy 2010-2020 aims to accelerate action toward a leprosy-free world, with a focus on the early detection of cases, before disabilities occur, and the prevention and early detection of disabilities among higher-risk groups by conducting active case-finding campaigns in highly endemic areas or communities. In this sense, our findings provide information to stakeholders regarding the characterization of high-risk patients that should be prioritized and targeted to receive preventive interventions for the early detection and reduction of grade 2 disability in endemic areas.”

“As leprosy has been a neglected disease with a high potential to cause deformities, especially when it is not treated properly, I would like to reinforce the need for early identification of cases in the community with the adoption of active case search and screening of household and social contacts from all index cases,” he said. “Such measures could minimize leprosy-related problems, as physicians and other health professionals could better care for these patients.”

Dr. M. Ramam from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, in New Delhi, who wrote an accompanying editorial, told Reuters Health by email, “I would like physicians to recognize that leprosy is still here and likely to stay. They should continue to consider it in the differential diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy and anesthetic macules and plaques, particularly (but not exclusively) in people who currently live in or previously lived in countries where the disease is prevalent.”

The editorial summarizes the 2018 evidence-based WHO guidelines for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of leprosy. Patients should generally receive three drugs (dapsone, clofazimine and rifampicin), but those with rifampicin- or quinolone-resistant leprosy require different regimens. Leprosy contacts should receive a single dose of rifampicin.

Doctor Predicts Major Infectious Disease in CA this Summer

Reported By Kevin Jackson |

I equate Democrats to a plague. They bring destruction and pestilence wherever they land. But don’t believe me, just look at the evidence.

A well-known medical expert explains the plague he believes will hit LA this summer.

As Fox News reported,

Thousands of lives may be at risk this summer in Los Angeles and politicians could be to blame, according to one famous TV doctor.

Radio host and addiction medicine specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky talked about the horrific conditions on the streets of America’s second-largest city Thursday before making the frightening prediction on Fox News Radio’s “The Brian Kilmeade Show,” which also airs on Fox Nation.

“I live in the great state of California, the utopia that is California, which is a nightmare,” Pinsky said.

“I want to give you a prediction here. There will be a major infectious disease epidemic this summer in Los Angeles.”

Well at least Democrats already have a scapegoat. And according to Fox 2, Democrats can blame the rats.

Los Angeles officials are potentially exploring ripping out all the carpet at City Hall amid reports of the building being overrun by rats and fleas as a typhus outbreak plagues the downtown area. Council President Herb Wesson, who filed the motion Wednesday and at one point moved his staff to another location over the rodent infestation, also asked officials to investigate the “scope and vermin of pest control issues. He cited a case involving a city employee who possibly contracted the flea-borne illness while at work.

“Employees shouldn’t have to come to work worried about rodents,” Wesson, who removed his own office’s carpet in November, told the Los Angeles Times. “I intend to do whatever it is we need.”

Clearly, this is why they’re called democRATS.

What’s the solution? The article continues,

Wesson’s motion asked officials to explore estimated costs to remove the carpeting in City Hall and City Hall East and replace it with alternate flooring, as well as rid of live plants and mull new ways for employees to store their food after hours. Furthermore, the motion said there has been a “noticeable increase in the volume or rodents in the area and within city buildings,” Fox 11 reported.

The California Department of Public Health first reported the flea-borne typhus outbreak in L.A. County in October and said that the affected area included large parts of downtown where homeless populations sleep, including Skid Row. It said it had recorded 167 confirmed cases in 2018.

Elizabeth Greenwood, deputy city attorney who works in City Hall East, said she contracted the illness in the fall and experienced high fever, vertigo and “the worst headache I have ever had in my life,” according to the LA Times.

“I am actually terrified of entering the building again until they do something,” she told the news outlet.

More so, Wesson said in the motion that his office had called in pest control who set traps, and that within two weeks his staff noticed fleas in the carpets, which prompted him to have it removed.

Democrats scared of the situation created by other Democrats. Look at almost all problems facing mankind, and you will find a DemocRAT nearby. Crime, pollution, vice, you name it; with Democrats, it will be available in abundance.

Add disease to the mix. Through massive illegal immigration, Democrats brought mumps, measles, and other communicable diseases into America.

As for Pinsky’s prediction, I believe he may be right about LA.

L.A. Has Morphed Into A Complete Sh*thole – Shocking Pics

Written by K. Walker on June 3, 2019

Maybe all of those celebs should look at what’s going on in their own backyard before lecturing folks in Alabama and Georgia.

Hollywood celebrities and a few production companies have decided that they are going to try to apply pressure to governments in states that pass pro-life laws by depriving them of their esteemed presence.

Really celebs?

Ok, then. Maybe y’all can step just outside of Tinseltown and hang back in Los Angeles with the ballooning homeless problem, feces on the streets, rats, and medieval diseases.

Seems like a fair trade.

The shocking conditions in downtown Los Angeles reveal just how much of a sh*thole the place has become, all because of “compassionate” leftist policies.

A decision made by the city council to not cap the total amount of property that homeless people could keep on Skid Row was announced last Wednesday. Some city officials saw the move as wrongheaded and that it would “only perpetuate the public health crisis that already exists” on there.

The streets of Skid Row have become home to around 4200 people in tents and shantytowns spread across 50 blocks.

…councilmen Joe Buscaino slammed the decision, saying: ‘The settlement will only perpetuate the public health crisis that already exists in Skid Row and will set a precedent for the rest of the city that will normalize encampments.

‘The city is sending a clear signal that we are turning the sidewalks in Skid Row into free, unlimited public storage, doing a disservice to the residents of Los Angeles, especially to those living on the streets.’

Images from the downtown area show trash piling up as workers struggle to keep the area sanitized. They are pictured wearing face masks among the dirt and grime.

The place is filled with tents, furniture, and shopping carts, along with clothing, garbage, and human feces spread all over the sidewalks and the streets. As well as lots and lots of needles. You can’t get a plastic straw in L.A. but you can get free needles for drug use.

Recently, a Los Angeles police detective was diagnosed with typhoid fever, a disease that was all but eliminated in the United States in the last hundred years. Most people that contract typhoid fever do so in underdeveloped nations where contamination of the water supply can occur. Several other officers that work in the same Central Division station are showing symptoms of typhoid fever as well. The Central Division polices downtown Los Angeles, including the increasingly filthy Skid Row area.

Dustin DeRollo, a union spokesman, said officers who patrol Skid Row ‘walk through the feces, urine and trash’ – conditions that ‘should alarm everyone and must be addressed.’

The police union has demanded better protective equipment for officers and called for the station to be regularly sanitized.

The Police Department said exposed areas of the Central Division were being disinfected and officials were reviewing the state’s ‘concerning’ report that found health violations at the station.

The building lacked an effective extermination program and had ‘rats/rodents, fleas, roaches, flies, gnats, mosquitoes and grasshoppers,’ according to the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health’s May 14 report.

There is also a growing rat problem, and those rats carry fleas that carry disease. Los Angeles has no plan to control the exploding rat population………..

San Francisco Has More Drug Addicts Than Public High School Students, Health Dept Survey finds

Posted by    Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 6:00pm

“There are about 24,500 injection drug users in San Francisco — that’s about 8,500 more people than the nearly 16,000 students enrolled in San Francisco Unified School District’s 15 high schools”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=31&v=YQctLUab5Ks

The Left Coast of this great nation is often held up as a blueprint for progressive policy successes by its politicians, such as Democratic Party presidential hopeful Kamala Harris. However, just how close to utopia are these progressive paradises? A look at the public health conditions show that the only “wealth” that seems to be readily spread through these regions is viral load.

Late last year, I reported that the Los Angeles area was battling a typhus epidemic.

https://legalinsurrection.com/2018/11/typhus-spreads-through-los-angeles-over-100-cases-reported/

Now, a Los Angeles City Hall official is one of the latest victims of typhus, and the disease continues to spread across Los Angeles County.

For months, LA County public health officials have said typhus is mainly hitting the homeless population. But Deputy City Attorney Liz Greenwood, a veteran prosecutor, tells NBC4 she was diagnosed with typhus in November, after experiencing high fevers and excruciating headaches.

“It felt like somebody was driving railroad stakes through my eyes and out the back of my neck,” Greenwood told the I-Team. “Who gets typhus? It’s a medieval disease that’s caused by trash.”

Greenwood believes she contracted typhus from fleas in her office at City Hall East. Fleas often live on rats, which congregate in the many heaps of trash that are visible across the city of LA, and are a breeding ground for typhus.

The California Department of Public Health reports a 55% increase in reported cases of typhus for 2018, with over 160 cases reported across the state. A bit farther North, the blue bastion of San Francisco has a fun, new statistic about which it can boast.

San Francisco has more drug addicts than it has students enrolled in its public high schools, the city Health Department’s latest estimates conclude.

There are about 24,500 injection drug users in San Francisco — that’s about 8,500 more people than the nearly 16,000 students enrolled in San Francisco Unified School District’s 15 high schools and illustrates the scope of the problem on the city’s streets. It’s also an increase of about 2,000 serious drug users since 2012, the last time a study was done….

The problem is particularly visible in the Tenderloin, where police reported more than 600 arrests for drug dealing last year. And where 27 suspects were booked into County Jail for dealing drugs in the first 20 days of the new year.

The out-in-the-open use of drugs on city sidewalks and at the Civic Center BART Station was a huge embarrassment for the city and triggered more police patrols and crackdowns in the past year. The BART station has been cleaned up, but the problem continues in the Tenderloin.

To be fair, who would really want to live in the Bay Area completely sober?

As the final item in our review of social justice citadels, let’s look at Washington state. A few weeks ago, I reported that the section of the state close to Portland, Oregon (an officially designated anti-vaccine hot spot) was experiencing a measles emergency.

Early last week, Washington Governor Jay Inslee Friday a state of emergency related to the measles outbreak.

State agencies will work with local health departments and emergency management teams to help respond to any needs, including epidemiology to verify suspected cases, technical assistance to educate the public on measles outbreaks and guidance on how to protect vulnerable populations, according to Tara Lee, spokeswoman for the governor.

As public health officials review the escalating number of measles outbreaks, some indicate that social media may be a contributing factor to the anti-vaccination movement that is leading to the spread of contagion.

Dawn Nolt, an assistant professor of pediatric diseases at Doernbecher children’s hospital in Portland, said that while measles is only rarely deadly, “it has high consequences” for the short-term health of its victims. She said measles is also highly contagious, and will spread to 90% of unvaccinated people who are exposed to a carrier of the disease.

She has seen an increase in what practitioners call “vaccine hesitancy”, and she added: “I do wonder whether the advent of social media has empowered that anti-vaccine movement.”

Clearly, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington State show that social justice demands conflict with public health needs and common sense.

Trump AG targets LA over immigration: You better not be a ‘sanctuary city’ or no fed grants for you

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Monday local jurisdictions seeking U.S. Department of Justice grants must first demonstrate they are not sanctuary cities — a threat that could potentially apply to Los Angeles and other local municipalities. Sessions said jurisdictions must prove they are in compliance with Section 1373 of U.S. Code Title 8, which requires notification of federal officials about the immigration status of people in local custody. The policy was issued under the Barack Obama administration in 2016, but was not enforced.

“The American people know that when cities and states refuse to help enforce immigration laws, our nation is less safe,” Sessions said.

Sessions noted that the Justice Department’s Office of Justice Programs and Community Oriented Policing Services expect to issue about $4.1 billion in grants during the current fiscal year. Sessions’ comments were in line with an executive order issued by President Donald Trump in January that threatened to cut off federal funding to sanctuary cities. The potential financial impact to local jurisdictions deemed to be uncooperative with federal immigration authorities was not immediately clear. The city of Los Angeles received $1.4 million from the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program this fiscal year, according to the Justice Department’s website.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Los Angeles County received $3.4 million in 2015 from the DOJ’s State Criminal Alien Assistance Program — an amount that represents about one-tenth of 1 percent of the sheriff’s department’s budget.

While there is no specific definition of a sanctuary city or jurisdiction, it often refers to a city or county that refuses to notify U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that is has an immigrant in the country illegally in its custody. Federal law requires the notification, even if the person has not been convicted of a crime, but many jurisdictions ignore the law.

Los Angeles’ leaders have resisted officially labeling the city as a sanctuary city, although many others cities, including San Francisco and Portland, have taken on the label. The policy of the Los Angeles Police Department is to only hold a person for ICE if there is a federal criminal warrant out for their arrest.

Mayor Eric Garcetti signed an executive order March 21 directing the city’s harbor and airport police to follow Los Angeles Police Department Special Order 40, which has been in place since 1979. It prohibits officers from initiating any police activity for the sole purpose of identifying someone’s immigration status. The executive order also bars any city employee from assisting any federal agency when the primary purpose is federal civil immigration enforcement.

“All residents must feel safe and supported when accessing the vast array of city facilities, programs, and services available to them,” the order states.

Rep. Tony Cardenas, D-Panorama City, called Sessions’ remarks “unwarranted and misguided.”

“As the facts have shown time and time again, sanctuary cities are both safer and better off economically,” Cardenas said. “This administration’s backwards policies will make life worse for the millions of Americans that live in these cities.”

Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights Los Angeles, echoed those remarks, saying cooperation between police and residents in “immigrant-welcoming” cities leads to safer communities.

“The A.G. is needlessly threatening to cut funding to cities for doing what every jurisdiction across the country should do — welcome diversity and ensure their local law enforcement builds strong bonds of trust and communication with all communities,” she said.

Illegal Immigration GiantThings are getting more and more violent in California. How bad do you believe it is going to get? Will this cause a war to break out?

The Los Angeles Police Department is bracing for a long weekend of political demonstrations following the California arrival of GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump and boisterous protests in Orange County. In the aftermath of clashes at an appearance by Trump in Costa Mesa on Thursday evening, thousands of unionized janitors took to the streets of downtown Los Angeles on Friday afternoon to demand higher wages and expanded rights.

The janitors, whose contract expires Saturday, began their rally at Grand Park at noon. Janitors say they could strike as early as next week against what they say are unfair labor practices by major janitorial companies.

On Saturday, supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders are expected to converge on downtown L.A. for a march and rally tied to International Workers’ Day, or May Day, on Sunday.

But the largest crowds are expected to gather downtown Sunday to demand equality for immigrants and protest Trump’s controversial statements about people from Mexico and Muslims.free speech def

“We have a very active three days with the Janitors for Justice today at midday, Bernie Sanders on Saturday and May Day march Sunday,” said LAPD Assistant Chief Michel Moore. “We’ll be using the play book that we have successfully used for a number of years.”Picture1

The janitors’ march is unpermitted and may disrupt the city’s downtown core, but police will accommodate the protest, Moore said.

Demonstrations in Costa Mesa on Thursday resulted in 17 arrests and damage to several police cars as large crowds of Latino protesters vented outrage at Trump’s claim that Mexico was sending rapists over the border. What did you say 07.jpg

Here’s What Happened to Walmart After LA Raises Minimum Wage to $15

Minimum-Wage-AspirantSG

replacementDespite President Barack Obama’s rosy report on the strength of the economy during his last State of the Union address, the economy is still struggling mightily, as evidenced recently by an announcement from retail giant Walmart.

Walmart recently made known that it would be closing hundreds of retail stores in the U.S. and around the globe, potentially laying off thousands of workers.

One of those Walmart stores, just closed on Sunday, was the downtown Los Angeles “Neighborhood Market” location that served the largely Hispanic and Asian communities of Chinatown, according to Breitbart.not worth it

Min-Wage-590-LAThe retailer cited a “number of factors” taken into account in deciding to close the store, but the fact that L.A. just raised its minimum wage to $10 per hour, on its way to $15 per hour by 2018, was likely one of the main factors in the decision.

Sadly, the largely impoverished community had fought for years to get Walmart to open a store in their area, but the retailer has been consistently attacked since by liberal labor and environmental activists and union organizers, despite the fact that most of the employees of the store rejected efforts to unionize them.

Anyone with even a modicum of economic understanding knows that arbitrarily raising the minimum wage, which replacementmeans higher labor costs, will result in lost jobs and closed stores as employers attempt to balance the thin margin between their profits and expenses.

We have already seen the steady creep of automation making its way into the fast food restaurant market in response to the increased labor costs that result from increased minimum wages for unskilled and replaceable entry-level workers.

Conservative Tribune is in favor of higher wages for workers who earn them. We are not in favor of statists at the federal, state or local level 2 out of 3arbitrarily setting wages that are better determined by the free market.

Please share this on Facebook and Twitter to help spread this story about the Walmart store in L.A. closing its doors, at least partially in response to the increased minimum wage.

‘Black Lives Matter’ Forces L.A. Mayor Garcetti to Flee Town Hall

Black Lives Matter disrupts Garcetti (Mark-Anthony Johnson / @FlyEgret / Twitter)

The organizers of the forum urged the protestors to have a “civil conversation.” Instead, they chanted “”Black lives, they matter here!” and forced Garcetti to leave under police guard. NBC Los Angeles recounted: “Garcetti initially came to answer questions from citizens regarding economic opportunity and community safety before protestors began chanting. But the event quickly turned to chaos as Black Lives Matter protesters rushed the podium.”Really with logo

Black Lives Matter organizer Dr. Melina Abdullah, a professor of Pan African Studies at Cal State L.A., posted a list of the protestors’ demands to Facebook, which includes a demand for the resignation of Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck, as well as the payment of “reparations” to the community for police violence.

BLM LA Demands (Melina Abdullah / Facebook)

hateBlack Lives Matter protests have been staged sporadically throughout Los Angeles over the past year, in response to the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri as well as police shootings closer to home, such as the Ezell Ford shooting. Garcetti was criticized when he skipped the inquiry into Ford’s death for a fundraiser in Washington.

Since then, Garcetti has been doing damage control. On Monday, he attempted to show solidarity with the Black Lives Movement by explaining, as other Democrats have been forced to do, why it was wrong to say “all lives matter.” The Times quoted Garcetti:Black-lives-matter stop killing each other

“Let me say, you’re right, your analysis,” Garcetti said. “I hate this back-and-forth we hear nationally, where people say black lives matter and politicians say all lives matter. Black lives matter in a unique way, and you and I see eye to eye on this.”

He added: “If you just try to say all lives matter, you write people out of history. You write slavery out of history. You write oppression and violence out of history. You write racism and lynching out of history. So I get why it is important — just hear me out for one second — you’re right.”black-lives-matter-lol

That was not enough for the protestors, however, who turned their backs to the stage and booed repeatedly. Their cause of deathgoal was to stop Garcetti from speaking, not to listen to his explanations.

Garcetti later issued a statement:

Tonight, we had hundreds of South LA residents attend a community meeting – leaders, business owners, mothers and children, who took time out of their evening to discuss the critical issues that matter most to all of us. I am disappointed that our conversation was cut short when there is so much work for us to do together to make our neighborhoods stronger and safer. I believe in our City and my commitment to our shared concerns continues, stronger than ever.

No, Scientists Have Not Found the ‘Gay Gene’

Michael Dalder / Reuters

The media is hyping a study that doesn’t do what it says it does.

This week, a team from the University of California, Los Angeles claimed to have found several epigenetic marks—chemical modifications of DNA that don’t change the underlying sequence—that are associated with homosexuality in men. Postdoc Tuck Ngun presented the results yesterday at the American Society of Human Genetics 2015 conference. Nature News were among the first to break the story based on a press release issued by the conference organisersOthers quickly followed suit. “Have They Found The Gay Gene?” said the front page of Metro, a London paper, on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the mood at the conference has been decidedly less complimentary, with several geneticists criticizing the methods presented in the talk, the validity of the results, and the coverage in the press.

Ngun’s study was based on 37 pairs of identical male twins who were discordant—that is, one twin in each pair was gay, while the other was straight—and 10 pairs who were both gay. He analysed 140,000 regions in the genomes of the twins and looked for methylation marks—chemical Post-It notes that dictate when and where genes are activated. He whittled these down to around 6,000 regions of interest, and then built a computer model that would use data from these regions to classify people based on their sexual orientation.

The best model used just five of the methylation marks, and correctly classified the twins 67 percent of the time. “To our knowledge, this is the first example of a biomarker-based predictive model for sexual orientation,” Ngun wrote in his abstract.

The problems begin with the size of the study, which is tiny. The field of epigenetics is littered with the corpses of statistically underpowered studies like these, which simply lack the numbers to produce reliable, reproducible results.

Unfortunately, the problems don’t end there. The team split their group into two: a “training set” whose data they used to build their algorithm, and a “testing set”, whose data they used to verify it. That’s standard and good practice—exactly what they should have done. But splitting the sample means that the study goes from underpowered to really underpowered.

There’s also another, larger issue. As far as could be judged from the unpublished results presented in the talk, the team used their training set to build several models for classifying their twins, and eventually chose the one with the greatest accuracy when applied to the testing set. That’s a problem because in research like this, there has to be a strict firewall between the training and testing sets; the team broke that firewall by essentially using the testing set to optimise their algorithms.

If you use this strategy, chances are you will find a positive result through random chance alone. Chances are some combination of methylation marks out of the original 6,000 will be significantly linked to sexual orientation, whether they genuinely affect sexual orientation or not. This is a well-known statistical problem that can be at least partly countered by running what’s called a correction for multiple testing. The team didn’t do that. (In an email to The Atlantic, Ngun denies that such a correction was necessary.)

And, “like everyone else in the history of epigenetics studies they could not resist trying to interpret the findings mechanistically,” wrote John Greally from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in a blog post. By which he means: they gave the results an imprimatur of plausibility by noting the roles of the genes affected by the five epi-marks. One is involved in controlling immune genes that have been linked to sexual attraction. Another is involved in moving molecules along neurons. Could epi-marks on these genes influence someone’s sexual attraction? Maybe. It’s also plausible that someone’s sexual orientation influences epi-marks on these genes. Correlation, after all, does not imply causation.

So, ultimately, what we have is an underpowered fishing expedition that used inappropriate statistics and that snagged results which may be false positives. Epigenetics marks may well be involved in sexual orientation. But this study, despite its claims, does not prove that and, as designed, could not have.

In a response to Greally’s post, Ngun admitted that the study was underpowered. “The reality is that we had basically no funding,” he said. “The sample size was not what we wanted. But do I hold out for some impossible ideal or do I work with what I have? I chose the latter.” He also told Nature News that he plans to “replicate the study in a different group of twins and also determine whether the same marks are more common in gay men than in straight men in a large and diverse population.”

Great. Replication and verification are the cornerstones of science. But to replicate and verify, you need a sturdy preliminary finding upon which to build and expand—and that’s not the case here. It may seem like the noble choice to work with what you’ve got. But when what you’ve got are the makings of a fatally weak study, of the kind well known to cause problems in a field, it really is an option—perhaps the best option—to not do it at all. (The same could be said for journalists outside the conference choosing to cover the study based on a press release.)

As Greally wrote in his post: “It’s not personal about [Ngun] or his colleagues, but we can no longer allow poor epigenetics studies to be given credibility if this field is to survive. By ‘poor,’ I mean uninterpretable.”

“This is only representative of the broader literature,” he told me. “The problems in the field are systematic. We need to change how epigenomics research is performed throughout the community.”

Two LA Gangs Make Wager to ‘Kill 100 People In 100 Days’

Leftist monster race

Hey, Look – Gang lives matter, too! Instead of taking shots at each other, how about you join the military or participate in a combat sport? Either option may end up having a positive affect on the world. Running around the streets of your town talkin’ tough doesn’t really accomplish anything, does it?

Screen Shot 2015-08-05 at 8.38.31 AM

Gang violence in Los Angeles has always been a problem, but the recent death of a Rollin 100 gang member has sparked a sickening bet that could see killings rise dramatically in the next few months.

Unilad – Following the death of infamous Rollin 100 gang member ‘KP’, under the hashtag #100Days100Nights, gang members on both Twitter and Instagram are issuing a sinister warning to Los Angeles residents. Basically, the hashtag serves as a bet between two gangs to see who can kill 100 people first, within the next 100 days. Even more sinister is the fact that these 100 people can either be gang-affiliated, or completely innocent. A source confirmed the reports exclusively to The Daily Beast this week.

And it is being reported that the killings may have already started, as one man was shot dead and 12 wounded in more than six seperate shooting over the weekend in the 77th Street district – including the infamous Crenshaw area.

Amongst the victims were two young boys, one aged as young as four and another aged 11, after a gunman approached their car and opened fire. And two days later, on Saturday, 47-year-old Anthony Alonzo Cudger was shot dead in a drive-by shooting as he sat in his car at the intersection of 81st and Hoover streets.

Police are currently trying to work out whether the killings were part of the #100Days100Nights bet, or whether they were gang-related retaliation – something that is a constant issue for the LAPD.

Five shootings involving one woman and four men occurred within five hours of Anthony Cudger’s murder, which prompted LA cops to spark a ‘tactical alert’ in hotspots around the city.

As mentioned, it is still unclear as to whether any of the shootings had anything to do with the bet, however, police are taking it extremely serious as gang members say it will remain ‘on’ for 100 days straight.

People have since been told not to commute between the streets of Western and Normandie in Los Angeles, whatsoever, as they could be risking their lives by doing so – all for a barbaric bloodsport.Picture1

A family member of KP says that the full-time single father was only LOOSELY affiliated with gangs and did not participate in gang-related activity, and went on to say how the vile hashtag is shining a bad light on his name after he managed to turn his life around:

It’s making him look like a bad person. It’s not like he started this and got killed behind it. He had no control over what’s going on with #100Days100Nights.

It’s just gonna put them in the same situation – You either are going to die behind this or go to jail behind this,’ the family member said. ‘It’s not gonna make a difference, it’s just making it worse.

How about #helpeachotherout or something like that? Many of you come from families of good people and are closer to success and the good life than you apparently think!!

LA Increases Minimum Wage, Employers Invest in Machines

Liberals have once again shown their startling ignorance regarding economics and how humans react to laws by altering how they spend money, whether for personal or business reasons. On Tuesday, by an almost unanimous vote, the Los Angeles City Council passed a law raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.  Wages will begin rising this year to $9 per hour and reach $15 within five years.more evidence

Picture5

Employers response?  According to the Los Angeles County Business Federation, the number of employers that say they intend to invest in automation that eliminate jobs doubled this year, to 59 percent.

Similar laws have passed in other cities recently, such as Seattle, which has resulted in a record number of restaurant closings. Small business owners in LA are claiming that they too, will be forced to close or move.

Despite what should herald a tremendous hiring boom in Los Angeles County, the “Dead Hand of Government Impoverishes the Middle Class” through a combination of high taxes, restrictive regulations, excessive permitting–and minimum wage hikes.

Tracy Rafter, founding Chief Executive of the Federation, commented on this year’s results, “Hiring, which it’s a bit better, is not where things are growing–they’re growing in technology,” because, “People cost so much more than technology over time.”

From Breitbart:

L.A. businesses are especially frustrated with the bureaucratic nightmare they experience dealing with of local, county and state building and safety planning departments. The BizFed poll found that the burden of securing operating permits was the most frustrating issue for local businesses, other than taxes and compliance fees.

For companies that do expand, they “must navigate what’s been called a spaghetti bowl of permit requirements”, according to the Times. Rafter worries that technological advancements have made it easier for frustrated local companies to just go “mobile” and conduct the bulk of their business elsewhere.

We see the same story unfolding across the nation in cities and states with unfriendly business environments; high unemployment rates, high taxes, and onerous regulations which prove to be a drag on the economy.  Almost always Democrat majority run, their typical “solution” is to throw more gasoline on the fire.Picture6

Why Does This Liberal “Utopia” Have the Nation’s Highest Poverty Rate?

According to a new U.S. Census Bureau report, California, which has been losing jobs to lower taxed, less state regulated states, now sports the nation’s highest rate of poverty, with almost one quarter (23.4%) of its residents living in poverty.

A depressing 8.9 million of the progressive controlled Golden State’s 38 million population are living in poverty in the once prosperous formerly conservative-run state.

Obama Ebola Bumper Stickers Appear Around Los Angeles
Some Southland drivers seem convinced that the President’s policy on stopping the virus to-date have not inspired confidence

Vice President Joe Biden held up traffic around Los Angeles for a second day on Tuesday, but it was President Obama himself on the minds of many Southern California drivers as bumper stickers began appearing on area cars featuring the word Ebola with the Obama logo replacing the letter “o.”

The scathing stickers come on the eve of President Obama’s Thursday trip to LA for a fundraiser at the home of Gwyneth Paltrow and on the same day that the LA Times reports that it may be premature for Mr. Obama’s government to declare that the deadly Ebola virus is not transmitted by air.

Dr. C.J. Peters, who battled a 1989 outbreak of the virus among research monkeys housed in Virginia and who later led the CDC’s most far-reaching study of Ebola’s transmissibility in humans, said he would not rule out the possibility that it spreads through the air in tight quarters.

“We just don’t have the data to exclude it,” said Peters, who continues to research viral diseases at the University of Texas in Galveston.PC-Rider-590-LI

Whatever the case, at least some Southland drivers seem convinced that the President’s policy on stopping the virus to-date have not inspired confidence.

Los Angeles To Send Homeless To Internment Camps & Implant RFID Chips

Read more at http://freedomoutpost.com/2014/07/los-angeles-to-send-homeless-to-internment-camps-implant-rfid-chips/#BC763SfSscCUUvyM.99

Researched and Reported by Mac Slavo 13 hours ago

Homeless beggerAn anonymous source claiming to work inside of the Los Angeles Department of Health Services recently dropped a bombshell that could set a dangerous new precedent in how the government deals with those they find to be a burden or threat to a stable society.

In a report penned by Paul Joseph Watson, the whistleblower says that Los Angeles County is preparing to round up and forcibly house homeless citizens in detention facilities referred to internally by department employees as “FEMA Camps,” though the source says that they have been instructed to refer to the detention areas as “low cost housing” facilities.

According to the source, law enforcement teams will soon be rounding up homeless individuals on the streets, checking them into the facilities, and detaining them indefinitely for “their own health and safety.” What may be even more alarming, however, is that the government is reportedly planning on embedding these individuals with RFID chips presumably to track their whereabouts.

Click on image to see movie trailer and more

Click on image to see movie trailer and more

The program is focused around removing or relocating homeless people from the streets of downtown L.A., starting with Skid Row.

“We will approach them on the street asking if they need or want help usually offering food to get their direct attention, if they come into the office it makes our jobs twice as efficient,” said the supervisor.

“In most cases the decision is already made for them unless they become combative or belligerent in which case we send them in for a 72 hour psych evaluation and then transfer them while under sedation or heavy medication to the “facility.”

The supervisor stressed that the program would be “humane,” that it would help clean up the streets, and that the citizens being processed into the housing units would receive medical treatment, an RFID chip, room and board, but that “they cannot leave.”

The supervisor elaborated that the facility was not a prison, but that its population would be kept there “for their own health and safety.”

The whistleblower points to a page on the Department of Health Services official website which details how “roving teams” will help “provide short-term housing with health oversight to homeless DHS patients who are recovering from an acute illness or injury or have conditions that would be exacerbated by living on the street or in shelters.”

Full Report at Infowars

Many Americans will no doubt support these facilities because it’ll “clean up” their neighborhoods, making them safer and eliminating an eyesore. They won’t even blink about people being forcibly rounded up, drugged, detained and tracked like animals, so long as it happens out of view of their Utopia.Comming Soon 02

The government will, no doubt, hail the successes of such a program and will likely look to expand it to other cities and perhaps even to larger segments of the population.

One hypothetical scenario that could be imagined is that as more and more dangerous individuals are added to domestic terror watchlists, the government will look to intern suspected terrorists and their associates in such facilities, for their own health and safety of course.

The White House recently approved a substantial expansion of terrorist watchlists, which already boasts a threat list that includes hundreds of thousands of Americans. Under the recently declassified guidelines, being added to a watchlist requires no “concrete facts” or “irrefutable evidence.” The Imperial President Obamaguidelines go so far as to grant broad powers to White House administration officials to unilaterally add not only individuals, but entire “categories of people” to the lists.

One possible future envisions a scenario where specific “categories” of people are identified as dangerous to the public and, like the homeless, are rounded up for internment.

The dangers of such facilities and the means by which they will be populated if this is the actual plan in Los Angeles are a blaring warning sign that should be heeded by all Americans.

To paraphrase the poem by Martin Niemöller about the cowardice of Germans in the face of mass roundups – when they came for the homelesss, I did not speak out because I was not homeless...
