Sep 28, 2016 · Lastly, a word on demographics. Demographers say that America will be a minority-majority nation by 2055. Today, four states are already there: California, Hawaii, New Mexico and Texas. Of these four states, Texas has by far the lowest Supplemental Poverty Measure, 14.9 percent.

The irony of a place that calls itself, The Golden State has no more gold.

According to new statistics released last month by the United States Census Bureau the blue dominate state has more people suffering from poverty than another state in the nation.

In its report, the Census Bureau used cost of living to determine poverty level. The report utilized a standard called the “supplemental poverty measure,” or SPM, which incorporates various factors including expenditures on food, clothing, shelter and utilities, as well as geographic variations, in housing costs.

A little more than 20 percent of Californians — about 8 million people — live in poverty, according to the state’s SPM rate. By comparison, in Mississippi, the state with the highest poverty rate by the official poverty measure, only about 16 percent live in poverty, according to the state’s SPM.

Considering how California throws money away at every problem, who’s shocked.

Welfare Dependence

California state and local governments spent about $958 billion from 1992 through 2015 on public welfare programs, including cash-assistance payments, vendor payments and “other public welfare,” according to the Census Bureau. That’s almost $1 trillion, and to what end.

Hosting 12% of the American population California boasts about one in three of the nation’s welfare recipients. Vagrants know California to be the state where you can get easy money. California fights against welfare-to-work, so the lazy flock to the state in droves. It doesn’t hurt that most areas of California are inhabitable in the worst of conditions.

While California rewards the apathetic, many states have gone back to implementing work requirements for welfare. Georgia is one such state. According to a report by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, there have been an additional 21 counties who restored the work requirements. These counties experienced a 62 percent drop in SNAP participants.

This kind of approach was also successful back in the 80’s and 90’s when states implemented welfare reform. The results were welfare rolls plummeted and people went back to work. But of course Leftists in California have rejected these positive results and continue with a no strings attached welfare approach.

In fact, California recipients of state aid receive a disproportionately large share of it in no-strings-attached cash disbursements. It’s as though welfare reform passed California by, leaving a dependency trap in place. Immigrants are falling into it: 55% of immigrant families in the state get some kind of means-tested benefits, compared with just 30% of natives.

Work ethic lifts people out of poverty. However, Democrats ignore this simple fact.

Over Regulated Housing

In addition to out of control welfare handouts, finding an affordable home in California is nearly impossible. After New Jersey and Maryland, California is the third least-free state when it comes to housing regulation.

This is due to development fees, global warming carbon dioxide concerns, restrictive zoning, and other barriers which act to create a massive barrier to owning a house in California. This pushes the cost of a home beyond reach for the middle class, while making rent virtually impossible for the poor.

Extensive environmental regulations aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions make energy more expensive, also hurting the poor. By some estimates, California energy costs are as much as 50% higher than the national average.

Jonathan A. Lesser of Continental Economics, author of a 2015 Manhattan Institute study, “Less Carbon, Higher Prices,” found that “in 2012, nearly 1 million California households faced … energy expenditures exceeding 10% of household income. In certain California counties, the rate of energy poverty was as high as 15% of all households.”

In other words making the population more poor to be more “eco-friendly” is good by progressive standards!

The Official Sanctuary State

Further, if you really wanted to destroy California, you need change nothing. Take for example Jerry Brown’s new law that provides sanctuary for non-citizens. In effect, illegals have more rights than taxpaying American citizens in California.

As Reported by Fox News:

The Golden State is home to an estimated 2.3 million illegal immigrants.

“These are uncertain times for undocumented Californians and their families, and this bill strikes a balance that will protect public safety, while bringing a measure of comfort to those families who are now living in fear everyday,” Brown said on the day he signed the bill.

And we are seeing the effects of these dangerous polices first hand. Take a look at this recording from a driver observing what a “sanctuary” looks like in California:

Additionally, California spends $23 billion on illegal immigration as opposed to the rest of the United States combined at $89 billion.

If this is what California calls “progressivism” it’s no wonder why some counties in California are trying to declare independence from the rest of the state.

With the reading of their own version of a Declaration of Independence, founders of the state of New California took the first steps to what they hope will eventually lead to statehood. CBS Sacramento reports they don’t want to leave the United States, just California.

“Well, it’s been ungovernable for a long time. High taxes, education, you name it, and we’re rated around 48th or 50th from a business climate and standpoint in California,” said founder Robert Paul Preston.

But unlike other separation movements in the past, the state of New California wants to do things by the book, citing Article 4, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution and working with the state legislature to get it done, similar to the way West Virginia was formed.

Don’t expect California to see the light. The state is too far gone. And they have fixed the system so thoughtful leaders will never win.

I hope President Trump doesn’t offer them a bailout without a deal to change the leadership. Know that California is broke and not admitting it.

Scariest Poll of the Year for Democrats Just Released. If you are listening to the Democrats, there are a lot of things they didn’t like about the president’s speech at last night’s State of the Union address.

But what should bother them most is the poll released shortly thereafter.

President Trump received a 75 percent approval for his SOTU speech. That’s really bad news for Democrats. But inside the numbers reveals far deeper problems. According to the poll 43 percent of Democrats liked the president’s speech. That number is huge. At best, Trump likely carried only 30 percent of the Democrat vote on November 8, 2016. So the idea that he now carries an additional 13 percent is huge. Add to this the recent poll showing the twice as many blacks support Trump now than on election day, and you see the problem for the Democrats.

Next, 72 percent of Independents liked the speech. Again, a big increase over the Independents who supported Trump a year ago.

How do you think those numbers jive with the fake news polls?

Consider Steve Schmidt of MSNBC who actually called the speech “divisive” and thought it was coming from an “alternate reality.”

SCHMIDT: “The president went in there as presidents do and addresses the nation. But left unsaid was that this president comes in, the most unpopular president this early in his tenure in the history of polling.

Somebody who is besieged by a criminal investigation, talking about the importance of our law enforcement organizations and institutions while at the same time the Republican majority working with the White House is engaged in a full-on assault trying to discredit the FBI, the Justice Department, doing everything they conceivably can to insulate the president from these investigations.

Across the depth and breadth of this, you saw a divisive speech, the wedge issue of immigration, the scare tactics of ms-13. There was no talk in this speech about the challenges the country faces over the next five years, ten years, 15 years.

And more than anything, there was a speech delivered almost from an alternate reality, a fifth dimension that presumes that nothing we heard from this president has actually in fact happened. And the American people know it.

Schmidt may have listened to President Trump, but he didn’t bother to hear. But there is one more number to consider. The Republicans. So what about that Republican base?

With 97 percent of Republicans liking the speech, that means Trump has undoubtedly shored up his base. Given the anti-Trump and Never Trumpers, the fact that Trump has such overwhelming support from a supposedly fractured party speaks volumes. The Democrats would sacrifice much for such unity.

Recall a poll taken after Trump was in office just 6 months trying to convince the public he was the most hated president in history:

According to the Washington Post/ABC poll, President Trump’s new approval rating is 36%.

“Approaching six months in office, Trump’s overall approval rating has dropped to 36 percent from 42 percent in April. His disapproval rating has risen five points to 58 percent. Overall, 48 percent say they “disapprove strongly” of Trump’s performance in office, a level never reached by former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama and reached only in the second term of George W. Bush in Post-ABC polling.”

Democrats believed their polls in 2016, and that ended poorly.

Now a CBS poll, obviously biased against Trump yields amazingly pro-Trump numbers. So what are the real numbers?

The good news for President Trump is the real numbers don’t matter. Because they will only get better.

At the SOTU, President Trump stayed true to the course he set. While Democrats behaved like petulant children, they have no choice but to come around. Truthfully, Democrats are happy Obama is gone. They celebrate a real president, but can’t share their joy.

However, soon they will admit their support for President Trump. To do so will be acceptable.

CNN Anchor Chris Cuomo BLASTS Hillary Clinton Over Lies. I commented that one of the many signs that America shifts towards Conservatism will come in fake news media reporting.

I said on my radio show that you will soon see the media covering unflattering stories of high-level, previously untouchable Democrats. While CNN remains fake news as they selectively cover things like the FISA memo due to come out shortly, they no longer wear their “poker face” when discussing Hillary Clinton.

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo blasted Hillary Clinton recently over the issue of sexual abuse by a staffer. Cuomo said of the recent revelation that Clinton shielded a 2008 campaign staffer from firing after sexual harassment allegations showcases her inability to admit her mistakes.

“It raises two things,” Cuomo said. “We went hard on this Friday night on the prime time show and the one is, this is who Hillary Clinton is. Let’s be honest. One of the reasons that email story got out of control is that she wouldn’t jump on that early on either and just own what was true and apologize about it.”

“The second thing is they’ll say it was 2008,” he continued. “Whatever, you had two people, including your campaign manager, come to you and said this person has to go. That was all you needed, 2008, 1978, that’s all she should have needed.”

In this time of heightened awareness placed on sexual harassment and abuse, Hillary Clinton appears rather flippant in her response. Clinton’s 2008 former campaign chief, Patti Solis Doyle told CNN earlier Monday that she looked into the matter and “came to the conclusion that there was sexual harassment involved. She added that the young woman was very credible. Finally, she commented, “my recommendation to the Senator was to fire him and I was overruled.”

What Cuomo said is about as close as you can come to calling a person a liar, without outright calling a person a liar. But what the Democrats certainly must see is that the fake news media now covers Clinton, and not favorably. Check out this segment from Wolf Blitzer:

Interestingly, what began impugning the reputation of Harvey Weinstein now expands to engulf Hillary Clinton. What irony.

The Democrats are in big trouble. Clinton’s legacy as a champion of women’s causes is dead, even if the Left haven’t admitted it publicly.

And in the wake of the FISA memo revelations, the party itself is on life-support.

At some point, the media must try to regain some modicum of credibility. I think we have seen the first pass.

Illegal Receives 3 LIVERS Ahead of American Citizens

No America citizen should have to fight to be put ahead of illegals. But such is the case when Democrats crave new voters.

And that’s why Americans find ourselves in jeopardy. Along with double the crimes committed by illegals, their status notwithstanding, there exist other perils.

As the LA Times reports, illegals can now get on America’s organ donor registry:

Ana Puente was an infant with a liver disorder when her aunt brought her illegally to the U.S. to seek medical care. She underwent two liver transplants at UCLA Medical Center as a child in 1989 and a third in 1998, each paid for by the state.

Just so we are clear, a non-citizen of the United States brought her illegal niece to America. And she received two livers ahead of other citizens. So Puente potentially killed two Americans waiting on livers.

Things went bad for Puente when she turned 21. Because she aged out of her state-funded health insurance and was unable to continue treatment at UCLA.

The article continues,

This year, her liver began failing again and she was hospitalized at County-USC Medical Center. In her Medi-Cal application, a USC doctor wrote, “Her current clinical course is irreversible, progressive and will lead to death without another liver transplant.” The application was denied.

The county gave her medication but does not have the resources to perform transplants.

Late last month Puente learned of another, little-known option for patients with certain healthcare needs. If she notified U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services that she was in the country illegally, state health officials might grant her full Medi-Cal coverage. Puente did so, her benefits were restored and she is now awaiting a fourth transplant at UCLA.

So now Puente has the potential to kill four Americans, all because she made it to America. Who knows who waited anxiously for the livers that Puente received. Moreso, who know what the cost was to save her life three and soon to be four times.

Anybody think Puente would have gotten transplants if the person in need of the livers were kin to elitist Democrats? And what if Pelosi or Weinstein had to pick up the costs?

Thus the controversies:

Should illegal immigrants receive liver transplants in the U.S.?
Should taxpayers pick up the cost?

Allow me to answer on behalf of Americans. No and no!

The article elucidates both issues:

The average cost of a liver transplant and first-year follow-up is nearly $490,000, and anti-rejection medications can run more than $30,000 annually, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing, which oversees transplantation nationwide.

Donor livers are also in scarce supply. In California, nearly 3,700 people are on a waiting list for livers, according to the network. Last year, 767 liver transplants were performed in the state. More than 90% of the organs were given to U.S. citizens.

Donor livers are generally allocated through a geographically based distribution system on the basis of how sick the patients are and how long they have been on the transplant waiting list.

Immigration status does not play a role in allocating organs.

So, if an illegal can get to America, they can jump over citizens in the list for organs, AND get the American taxpayers to fund their transplants.

Do you know any other country where this is possible?

This is incredible, and certainly something Americans need to know when deciding on whom to support. Clearly the Democrats put the lives of illegals over those of citizens.

There is a saying, “It’s all fun and games until somebody loses an eye.”. That’s a cautionary tale usually told to children who rough house too much. But that saying certainly applies to organs. Because when you or your loved one needs an organ, you may resent that somebody not only jumped ahead of you, but they will get the organ promised to you, for free.

No doubt the House Minority Leader from San Francisco does have thousand dollar crumbs on her plate.

By her lights those crumbs are a “little piece of cheese in a mouse trap” for the little people who elect her to do what she does.

I don’t think she gets why her party has crumbled.

SACRAMENTO — California lawmakers are targeting the expected windfall that companies in the state would see under the federal tax overhaul with a bill that would require businesses to turn over half to the state.

A proposed Assembly Constitutional Amendment by Assemblymen Kevin McCarty, D-Sacramento, and Phil Ting, D-San Francisco, would create a tax surcharge on California companies making more than $1 million so that half of their federal tax cut would instead go to programs that benefit low-income and middle-class families.

“Trump’s tax reform plan was nothing more than a middle-class tax increase,” Ting said in a statement. “It is unconscionable to force working families to pay the price for tax breaks and loopholes benefiting corporations and wealthy individuals. This bill will help blunt the impact of the federal tax plan on everyday Californians by protecting funding for education, affordable health care, and other core priorities.”

As a constitutional amendment, the bill would require approval from two-thirds of the Legislature to pass, a difficult hurdle now that Democrats have lost their supermajority. If passed and signed by Gov. Jerry Brown, it would then go to voters for final approval.

Democrats lost their supermajority following resignations of two Assembly Democrats, Matt Dababneh of Encino (Los Angeles County), and Raul Bocanegra of San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles County) amid sexual misconduct allegations. Another Assembly Democrat, Sebastian Ridley-Thomas of Los Angeles, resigned citing health issues. In the Senate, Democrat Tony Mendoza of Artesia (Los Angeles County) is taking a leave of absence pending an investigation into sexual misconduct allegations.

California Democrats have been exploring ways to help those in the state who could end up paying higher federal taxes next year under the Republican tax overhaul. The GOP overhaul caps state income taxes and local property tax write-offs on the federal income tax return at $10,000, a move expected to hurt high-local-tax states such as California, where the average state and local tax write-off in 2016 was $22,000.

State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León introduced legislation this month that would allow Californians to get around the state and local tax cap with a voluntary donation to a charitable fund created by the state of any amount of owed taxes above $10,000. That donation — in lieu of taxes — would allow donors to write off the gifts on their federal tax returns.

What I Learned in the Peace Corps in Africa: Trump Is Right

Three weeks after college, I flew to Senegal, West Africa, to run a community center in a rural town. Life was placid, with no danger, except to your health. That danger was considerable, because it was, in the words of the Peace Corps doctor, “a fecalized environment.”

In plain English: s— is everywhere. People defecate on the open ground, and the feces is blown with the dust – onto you, your clothes, your food, the water. He warned us the first day of training: do not even touch water. Human feces carries parasites that bore through your skin and cause organ failure.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that a few decades later, liberals would be pushing the lie that Western civilization is no better than a third-world country. Or would teach two generations of our kids that loving your own culture and wanting to preserve it are racism.

Last time I was in Paris, I saw a beautiful African woman in a grand boubou have her child defecate on the sidewalk next to Notre Dame Cathedral. The French police officer, ten steps from her, turned his head not to see. I have seen. I am not turning my head and pretending unpleasant things are not true.

Senegal was not a hellhole. Very poor people can lead happy, meaningful lives in their own cultures’ terms. But they are not our terms. The excrement is the least of it. Our basic ideas of human relations, right and wrong, are incompatible.

As a twenty-one-year-old starting out in the Peace Corps, I loved Senegal. In fact, I was euphoric. I quickly made friends and had an adopted family. I relished the feeling of the brotherhood of man. People were open, willing to share their lives and, after they knew you, their innermost thoughts.
The longer I lived there, the more I understood: it became blindingly obvious that the Senegalese are not the same as us. The truths we hold to be self-evident are not evident to the Senegalese. How could they be? Their reality is totally different. You can’t understand anything in Senegal using American terms.

Take something as basic as family. Family was a few hundred people, extending out to second and third cousins. All the men in one generation were called “father.” Senegalese are Muslim, with up to four wives. Girls had their clitorises cut off at puberty. (I witnessed this, at what I thought was going to be a nice coming-of-age ceremony, like a bat mitzvah or confirmation.) Sex, I was told, did not include kissing. Love and friendship in marriage were Western ideas. Fidelity was not a thing. Married women would have sex for a few cents to have cash for the market.

What I did witness every day was that women were worked half to death. Wives raised the food and fed their own children, did the heavy labor of walking miles to gather wood for the fire, drew water from the well or public faucet, pounded grain with heavy hand-held pestles, lived in their own huts, and had conjugal visits from their husbands on a rotating basis with their co-wives. Their husbands lazed in the shade of the trees.

Yet family was crucial to people there in a way Americans cannot comprehend. The Ten Commandments were not disobeyed – they were unknown. The value system was the exact opposite. You were supposed to steal everything you can to give to your own relatives. There are some Westernized Africans who try to rebel against the system. They fail.
We hear a lot about the kleptocratic elites of Africa. The kleptocracy extends through the whole society. My town had a medical clinic donated by international agencies. The medicine was stolen by the medical workers and sold to the local store. If you were sick and didn’t have money, drop dead. That was normal.

So here in the States, when we discovered that my 98-year-old father’s Muslim health aide from Nigeria had stolen his clothes and wasn’t bathing him, I wasn’t surprised. It was familiar.

In Senegal, corruption ruled, from top to bottom. Go to the post office, and the clerk would name an outrageous price for a stamp. After paying the bribe, you still didn’t know it if it would be mailed or thrown out. That was normal.

One of my most vivid memories was from the clinic. One day, as the wait grew hotter in the 110-degree heat, an old woman two feet from the medical aides – who were chatting in the shade of a mango tree instead of working – collapsed to the ground. They turned their heads so as not to see her and kept talking. She lay there in the dirt. Callousness to the sick was normal.

Americans think it is a universal human instinct to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It’s not. It seems natural to us because we live in a Bible-based Judeo-Christian culture. We think the Protestant work ethic is universal. It’s not. My town was full of young men doing nothing. They were waiting for a government job. There was no private enterprise. Private business was not illegal, just impossible, given the nightmare of a third-world bureaucratic kleptocracy. It is also incompatible with Senegalese insistence on taking care of relatives. All the little stores in Senegal were owned by Mauritanians. If a Senegalese wanted to run a little store, he’d go to another country. The reason? Your friends and relatives would ask you for stuff for free, and you would have to say yes. End of your business. You are not allowed to be a selfish individual and say no to relatives. The result: Everyone has nothing.

The more I worked there and visited government officials doing absolutely nothing, the more I realized that no one in Senegal had the idea that a job means work. A job is something given to you by a relative. It provides the place where you steal everything to give back to your family.

I couldn’t wait to get home. So why would I want to bring Africa here? Non-Westerners do not magically become American by arriving on our shores with a visa.

For the rest of my life, I enjoyed the greatest gift of the Peace Corps: I love and treasure America more than ever. I take seriously my responsibility to defend our culture and our country and pass on the American heritage to the next generation. African problems are made worse by our aid efforts. Senegal is full of smart, capable people. They will eventually solve their own country’s problems. They will do it on their terms, not ours. The solution is not to bring Africans here.

We are lectured by Democrats that we must privilege third-world immigration by the hundred million with chain migration. They tell us we must end America as a white, Western, Judeo-Christian, capitalist nation – to prove we are not racist. I don’t need to prove a thing. Leftists want open borders because they resent whites, resent Western achievements, and hate America. They want to destroy America as we know it. As President Trump asked, why would we do that?

We have the right to choose what kind of country to live in. I was happy to donate a year of my life as a young woman to help the poor Senegalese. I am not willing to donate my country.

Here’s Why Trump’s Offering Amnesty To 1.8 Million Illegal Immigrants

President Donald Trump explained his rationale for offering 1.8 million illegal immigrants a pathway to citizenship in his new proposed fix for the DACA program, in a Saturday evening tweet.

The White House released the contours of its legislative framework to codify DACA into law Thursday, which is accompanied by $25 billion for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, an end to chain migration, and an end to the diversity visa lottery program. The pathway to citizenship element of the framework was largely denounced by immigration restrictionists.

Trump explained in the tweet that he desires a permanent solution to the DACA problem which has vexed policymakers for years. DACA recipients and so-called “dreamers” are illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. Former President Barack Obama created the DACA program in 2012 allowing some illegal immigrants to be shielded from deportation and issued work permits. Trump ended the program in September, citing its likely unconstitutionality.

The president also explained that he offered a pathway to citizenship for such a large illegal immigrant population in order to demonstrate that Democratic lawmakers are not interested in finding a permanent solution on the White House’s terms.

Trey Gowdy Gives Clues To What’s In FISA Abuse Memo [VIDEO]

Lawmakers have been reluctant to discuss a classified four-page memo alleging that the FBI and Justice Department abused the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) in order to spy on Trump campaign associates, but South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy provided several clues on Sunday to what’s in the controversial document.

In an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” Gowdy posed several questions to host Chris Wallace and his viewers that hinted at the allegations in the memo, which could be released by the House Intelligence Committee as early as this week.

“If you think your viewers want to know whether or not the dossier was used in court proceedings, whether or not it was vetted before it was used, whether or not it’s ever been vetted — if you are interested in who paid for the dossier, if you are interested in Christopher Steele’s relationship with Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee, then, yes, you will want the memo to come out,” Gowdy told Wallace.

“Do you want to know that the Democratic National Committee paid for material that was never vetted, that was included in a court proceeding?” he asked rhetorically.

“Do you want to know whether or not the primary source in these court proceedings had a bias against one candidate? Do you want to know whether or not he said he’d do anything to keep that candidate from becoming president?”

Gowdy’s reference to a source who said they opposed Donald Trump is unclear, though he would seem to be talking about Christopher Steele, the former British spy who wrote the dossier. Steele had been hired by Fusion GPS, an opposition research firm that was paid $1 million by the Clinton campaign and DNC to investigate Trump. Steele met with FBI agents in July 2016 and several months later to discuss his investigation of Trump. The bureau and DOJ reportedly used Steele’s work in an application for a surveillance warrant taken out against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Republican lawmakers have pressed the FBI and DOJ over how heavily they relied on the dossier for the warrant and for the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian government. Republicans also want to know whether the agencies vetted the dossier prior to using it in any FISA application.

In a Senate hearing last June, former FBI Director James Comey called the dossier “salacious and unverified.” Gowdy declined to confirm reports that the dossier was used to obtain the FISA warrant. He said that that information is classified at this point and he’s not allowed to discuss it. But Republicans will be able to get around that restriction if the Intelligence Committee votes to release the memo, which Gowdy helped write.

Democratic lawmakers have called the memo a set of talking points aimed at helping Trump, and the Justice Department sent a letter to committee chairman Devin Nunes calling the release “extremely reckless.”

In his interview, Gowdy said that he has suggested that Nunes allow the FBI and Justice Department to view the memo prior to its release. But he says that the information contained in the document is based on information already provided by those agencies.

“There’s nothing in this memo the Department is not already aware of,” Gowdy said on Sunday.

Voters want President Donald Trump to talk to the nation Tuesday night about improving the economy and health care system, creating jobs, and fighting terrorism during his first State of the Union address, according to a Politico/Morning Consult poll released Sunday.

Fifty-nine percent of American voters said it is “very important” for the president to discuss his plan to improve the health care system, while 58 percent said the same of boosting the economy. Roughly 23 percent of voters said it was “somewhat important” for Trump to address both health care and the economy.

“Our polling reveals fixing health care reform has become even more of a priority for voters since President [Barack] Obama’s final State of the Union address,” said Kyle Dropp, co-founder and chief research officer at Morning Consult, as Politico reported.

“Notably, 76 percent of voters said it was important for President Obama to discuss improving the health care system during his final State of the Union address in 2016, compared with 82 percent who say the same about President Trump’s address today,” Dropp added.

Trump took to Twitter on Sunday to tout the booming economy ahead of his address.

“Our economy is better than it has been in many decades. Businesses are coming back to America like never before. Chrysler, as an example, is leaving Mexico and coming back to the USA. Unemployment is nearing record lows. We are on the right track!” Trump tweeted.

Fifty-four percent of voters believe it is “very important for Trump to address the ongoing fight against terrorism, while 23 percent think it is “somewhat important” he do so. Fifty-five percent and 23 percent of voters believe it is “very important” and “somewhat important” that the president discuss how he will provide both direction and leadership for the country.

As Congress struggles to reach an immigration reform compromise, 40 percent and 26 percent of American voters believe it is “very important” or “somewhat important,” respectively, that Trump discuss his plans to reduce illegal immigration during the State of the Union address.

Only 27 percent and 28 percent of voters think it’s “very important” and “somewhat important,” respectively, for Trump to talk about reducing global poverty levels during his address, while just 30 percent and 27 percent say the same about combating climate change.

The poll surveyed 1,994 registered U.S. voters. Thirty-six percent of the respondents identified as Democrats, 33 percent identified as Republicans, and 31 percent said they were independents.

Watch Maria Bartiromo Take A Sledge Hammer To Union Organizer’s Hatred Of Trump

Fox Business Network host Maria Bartiromo got into a shouting match with a global union organizer after President Donald Trump’s speech in Davos, Switzerland, Friday.

Peter Jennings, general secretary of UNI Global Union, argued that Trump has not been doing enough for workers because he is hampering regulations that union advocates pushed through during the previous administration.

Jennings, Bartiromo and FBN correspondent Dagen McDowell argued over what Trump has done during his first year in office to help American workers. Jennings, who has said he hopes Trump will push for labor rights in the NAFTA renegotiations, argued that Trump is not protecting the American worker because he’s not allowing the unions to flourish, and Bartiromo and McDowell disagreed.

“He’s stacking the odds against working people coming together and getting a collective voice,” Jennings said.

“His whole theme has been getting to the forgotten man and woman,” Bartiromo said. McDowell said that it was the very union members in the Midwest who voted for Trump, arguing that the unions had not done enough to protect workers.

“Stop this demonizing of the trade union movement,” Jennings said. “Stop it. It just shows your ignorance of what it is we do, and how we try to lift all boats.

“Stop demonizing American workers who don’t belong to unions who are happy in their jobs,” McDowell said.

The most heated part of the exchange came when Jennings said “62 percent of this tax cut will go to top 1 percent, full stop.”

“That is absolutely not true,” Bartiromo said. “I cannot have you spew lies on this program. That is no the truth, everybody got a tax cut. And there are the rich that are actually facing higher taxes those who are losing their [state and local tax] deduction. Those are people who are finding higher taxes, the majority of Americans are seeing a tax cut.”

Government regulation are like “stealth taxation,” Trump said during remarks at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

New California Bill: Waiters Will Serve 6 Months In Prison For Handing Out ‘Unsolicited’ Straws

A California lawmaker has introduced a new bill that would make it illegal to distribute single-use straws to consumers at restaurants unless specifically requested.

Ian Calderon, the Democratic majority leader in California’s lower house, brought forth Assembly Bill 1884, citing environmental protection as a reason to discourage the use of “single use straws,” typically distributed with soft drinks, smoothies, and coffee, which are then disposed of after being used.

“We need to create awareness around the issue of one-time use plastic straws and its detrimental effects on our landfills, waterways, and oceans,” Calderon stated in a media release.

“AB 1884 is not a ban on plastic straws,” he added. “It is a small step towards curbing our reliance on these convenience products, which will hopefully contribute to a change in consumer attitudes and usage.”

Assembly Bill 1884 aims to update the California Retail Food Code.

The bill notes that the current code “… establishes uniform health and sanitation standards for, and provides for regulation by the State Department of Public Health of, retail food facilities, as defined, and requires local health agencies to enforce these provisions.”

As the law currently stands, punishment for violating the Retail Food Code ranges from paying a fine between $25 – $1,000 or jail time.

“Existing law requires, except as otherwise provided, a person who violates any provision of the code to be guilty of a misdemeanor with each offense punishable by a fine of not less than $25 or more than $1,000, or by imprisonment in the county jail for a term not exceeding 6 months, or by both.”

If passed, the law would modify the code to mark the provision of “single-use plastic straws to consumers unless requested by the consumer,” as a crime.

According to CNN, Americans dispose of 500 million plastic straws each day.

“Conservatively, you can guess that Americans will use on average two plastic straws a day, so 500 million is an accurate estimate. But I challenge you to start paying attention to the straws you get in your iced coffee, smoothies, soda, and cocktails,” said Adrian Grenier of the non-profit Lonely Whale to CNN.

“When I’m in New York or LA the number of plastic straws I receive is often closer to 10 a day,” Grenier added.

Disposable straws are made from fossil fuels, and according to the cable news outlet are rarely recycled due to their small size and the fact that they’re made from several different types of plastic. Straws and stirrers rank at number nine in the top 10 marine debris items, according to The Ocean Conservancy. Eliminating the use of plastic straws has been a growing movement for some time. The “Be Straw Free Campaign” was introduced by Milo Cress in 2011 when he was just 9 years old.

“I noticed that whenever I ordered a drink at a restaurant, it would usually come with a straw in it, and I don’t usually need a straw,” he told CNN.

“This seemed like a huge waste,” Cress continued. “Straws are made of oil, a precious and finite resource. Is making single-use plastic straws, which will be used for a matter of minutes before being tossed away, really what we want to do with this resource?”

Then a resident of Burlington, Vermont, the young activist asked establishments in his hometown to make straws and option for customers – and many complied. While some like Calderon, support changing legislation to modify people’s behavior, others believe that simply offering other options is a better alternative.

Besides not using a straw, reusable straws made from materials such as glass, steel, copper, and bamboo, are becoming popular.

Cress seemed to agree that encouraging consumers to make different choices is a more effective way to make a change.

“I am not out to ban straws,” he told CNN. “I think it’s much more effective to encourage people to make the choice not to use them. Voluntary participation encourages people to spread the word. Forcing people to do things is not always the most effective way to make a change.”

CIA Director Pompeo Reveals Incredible Insight Into Trump’s Presidency Few Have Seen Firsthand

The man who oversees U.S. intelligence operations indicated that his boss, President Donald Trump, has an ability to grasp information rivaling that of longtime intelligence professionals.

Speaking Tuesday at the conservative American Enterprise Institute, CIA Director Mike Pompeo praised the manner by which the president receives and processes knowledge from intelligence briefings.

“I have seen 25-year intelligence professionals receive briefings,” Pompeo told AEI’s Marc Thiessen. “I would tell you that President Trump is the kind of recipient of our information at the same level that they are.”

The CIA chief continued, noting that Trump receives briefings lasting between 30 and 40 minutes on almost daily basis, during which he “asks hard questions” and is “deeply engaged.”

“He has the grounding for him to be able to grasp this information in a way that he can ask sophisticated questions that then lead to important policy discussions,” Pompeo said.

“We’ll be sitting at a National Security Council meeting talking about a particular tropic,” Pompeo added, offering an example of Trump’s ability to process and retain information. “He’ll bring up something that I briefed him on weeks or months ago.”

The CIA director acknowledged the possibility that Trump already knew the information in question before getting briefed on it. But this type of scenario happens so often, Pompeo said, that he’s inclined to think Trump is recalling prior intelligence briefings.

“This happens time and time again,” Pompeo said.

“So it’s not simply the case that this is an exercise. He’s using it, he’s taking it on board, and I’m confident that our team is delivering in a way that’s delivering value to the president and … our other senior policymakers as well.”

Pompeo’s remarks on the president’s reception of intelligence information seemed to push back on prior reports claiming Trump has trouble staying focused,

In May 2017, a source told Reuters that National Security Council officials include Trump’s name in “as many paragraphs as (they) can because he keeps reading if he’s mentioned.” Moreover, the president reportedly prefers one-page memos and visual aids like charts, graphs and photos.

“He likes to visualize things,” a senior administration official said at the time. “The guy’s a builder. He has spent his whole life looking at architectural renderings and floor plans.”

Questions regarding Trump’s ability to take in and process information resurfaced in December, when The Washington Post reported that his daily briefing, or PDB, is “often structured to avoid upsetting him.”

“If you talk about Russia, meddling, interference — that takes the PDB off the rails,” said one former senior U.S. intelligence official.

But Pompeo painted a much different portrait — one of a president who takes his intelligence briefings very seriously.

“The president asks hard questions. He’s deeply engaged. We’ll have (a) rambunctious back and forth,” he said.

MSNBC Asks Franklin Graham About Trump’s “Sin Problem,” So He Brings Up Obama

If there’s one network that shouldn’t be questioning someone’s morality, it’s most definitely MSNBC. The hypocrisy

and bias that spews from that network is second to none. So, when they began to question the morality of President Donald Trump, evangelist Franklin Graham had a few words for them.

Over the weekend, son of famous evangelist Billy Graham, Franklin Graham, appeared on MSNBC. Over the course of a fairly lengthy interview, host Alex Witt asked Graham a series of questions regarding President Trump and his policies.

But then, in what would appear to be a “gotcha” question, Witt asked Graham if Trump had a “sin problem.” She recounted the “Access Hollywood” tape and even the porn star with whom Trump allegedly had an affair (an accusation that has yet to be proven).

“I can promise you, he is not President Perfect…and I don’t think I’ve seen a President Perfect yet,” Graham began.

He continued, “He’s not a perfect person, and neither am I.”

His comments in response to the “sin problem” question start at approximately 5:11:

Graham said he’s not holding the president up as the pastor of this country, and that he appreciates the fact that the president has a concern for Christians in this country and around the world. He also said he continues to pray for the president on a continual basis.

Witt then tried to trap Graham by asking, “If he were a Democrat, you would be as forgiving?”

“Sure. Under President Obama, I prayed for him,” Graham recounted. But then, he dropped a nuke. He said that he prayed for Obama even after he, Graham, was targeted by the Obama administration.

Graham’s Christian organization Samaritan’s Purse and Billy Graham were both targeted with IRS audits because they wouldn’t support Obama due to his stance on abortion and same-sex marriage. How does Graham know he was targeted? Both organization got the same IRS audit letter on the very same day. Graham says that it cost him a lot of money to deal with the audit. However, he said that despite being audited, it didn’t stop him from “praying for the man.” This isn’t the first time Graham has said that he prayed for Obama.

In fact, in a Thanksgiving message, Graham told his supporters, “Having just come through a divisive national election, I am urging pastors across this country to lead their congregations in praying daily for our president, Barack Obama … for wisdom, Divine guidance, and that God would accomplish His will and purposes.”

“While politics is noticeably partisan, prayer must never be partisan. Americans need to come together, and people of faith should lead the way, by praying diligently for our leaders, whether or not they agree with them or their policies,” he continued.

Graham also went on Fox News on Sunday and said that Trump has done more to defend Christianity than any other president in modern history.

“I find him to be a person concerned about the religious freedoms of Americans, but not just us here in this country, but he’s concerned about the religious freedom of people in other countries,” he said.

So, is President Trump the perfect president? No. But like Graham said, there has never been a perfect president, and there never will be.

Although if you ask liberals, I’m sure they would give you a couple of contenders for a “President Perfect.” But then again, liberals are living in a world quite disconnected from reality.

Today’s Ann Coulter Letter: “Lindsey Graham, the Uninvited Guest”

Why does Sen. Lindsey Graham have a seat at the table on immigration? Are Jorge Ramos and Vicente Fox unavailable?

Graham’s claim to fame is:

1) having twice negotiated a voluntary surrender for the GOP on immigration; and

2) winning 0.00 percent of the vote when he ran for president two years ago.

You could run for president on the platform that we should kill babies and eat them, and you’d get more votes than Lindsey Graham. Who designated this most remote of back-benchers, thoroughly rejected by the American people, as the principal negotiator on Trump’s central campaign promise?

Graham’s thought process seems to be: We had an election, I ran for president; literally no one voted for me, so my views should prevail over the guy who won an Electoral College landslide.

How about getting Dennis Kucinich in there? Has anyone asked Martin O’Malley for help in the “DACA” negotiations?

To a rapturous media, Graham has been peddling the lie that President Trump blew up a beautiful bipartisan deal on immigration. It wasn’t “bipartisan,” except in the sense of being “angrily rejected by the voters.”

It’s the same deal that has gone down in flames at least twice before. It’s the same deal that has already destroyed the careers of Sens. John McCain, Marco Rubio, Jeff Flake, Bob Corker, Kelly Ayotte, Mark Kirk and Gov. Jeb! Bush.

It’s the same deal President Bush tried to push through Congress in 2006 — with Graham’s support! — leading directly to the Republican wipeout in the midterm elections later that year. (Innumerable polls showed that the public hated Bush’s proposed amnesty even more than it hated the Iraq War.)

It’s the same deal that voters repudiated for approximately the 87th time when they made Donald Trump president (and — again — gave Lindsey Graham zero votes).

Notwithstanding the media’s phony polls showing 98.6 percent of voters wildly enthusiastic about amnesty for “Dreamers” — or “Nightmares,” as radio host Howie Carr calls them — every time the public gets its hands on an actual ballot, it votes for: less immigration, punishing employers who hire illegals, no government services for illegals, no driver’s licenses for illegals, no amnesty ever, English-only and Donald Trump.

What the media call a “bipartisan deal” didn’t even meet the basic definition of a “deal.”

For at least a decade now, the argument for amnestying the Nightmares has been: Screw the parents. THEY SUCK! They were the lawbreakers … but don’t blame the innocent children (single typewriter key) brought-here-through-no-fault-of-their-own.

Then we get to see the big bipartisan deal, and it’s: We amnesty the kids — but also the parents! Not only is this not meeting Trump halfway, it’s also doubling the distance.

It’s like negotiating in the Kasbah:

Democrats: We demand $30!

Republicans: We’ll give you $10.

Democrats: OK, $200.

Lindsey Graham: DEAL!

How did an existential issue for the Republican Party get assigned to the single worst person to negotiate it?

It would be as if during Bush’s presidency, anti-war Republican Chuck Hagel had anointed himself spokesman for the GOP on the Iraq War. Republicans would have gone nuts! They would have been screaming at the media, the Democrats and the president: DO NOT TALK TO CHUCK HAGEL!

The fact that Senate Republicans have not done this in the case of Graham and immigration makes me think the fix is in. If we had a party that was serious, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the rest of the Senate GOP would say, “That’s great that you and Jeff Flake have been having meetings, Lindsey, but you don’t speak for us.”

It’s hard to avoid the impression that other Republicans are saying, God bless Lindsey. There, but for the grace of God, go I — because this is what our paymasters want. The Business Roundtable doesn’t care what Republicans have to do to fool the base, provided: Another year goes by, the Nightmares are still here, and we haven’t sealed the border.

Either Mitch McConnell is very, very stupid or the reason he’s not pulling Graham is precisely because he keeps missing shots.

Let’s see, what’s the stupidest way we could do this? Every single day of Trump’s campaign he promised everyone a wall and mass deportations. What if we DON’T build a wall, but take the person who got zero votes, was the earliest and most vociferous in attacking Trump — and involve him centrally in the negotiations on immigration?

Recall that McConnell spent $8 million to defeat Rep. Mo Brooks in the Alabama Senate Republican primary last August, leading to Trump’s humiliating defeat in the reddest state in the Union in December. There’s nothing embarrassing about Brooks. But he’s with Trump on immigration, so he had to be stopped.

Voters get lip service on “securing the border” at the same time that Republicans are letting Graham negotiate amnesty. The complicit senators hide in their offices and practice looking shocked. No, Lindsey! That’s not what we wanted at all! … Oh well, what are you going to do? Let’s just get those illegals their permanent residence cards and move on to more tax cuts for Wall Street.

It’s said so often that it’s become a cliche: Elections have consequences. Just this once, couldn’t an election have a consequence? A wall and deportations — YES! Amnesty for the Nightmares — NO!

Chuck Schumer’s three decades of immigration lies

How far we have fallen as a political system: An entire political party is now willing to shut the government down over a policy exclusively for illegal aliens, not Americans. Even more appalling is that the very leader of the shutdown is a man who has lied to us numerous times on immigration and has created the very immigration crisis we face today by pushing similar amnesty policies before. Most ironic, Schumer himself once expressed support for the very policies he is now calling racist and over which he has triggered the Schumer Shutdown.

On Thursday, Politico reported that Chuck Schumer told President Trump there will be no deal unless Sen. Tom Cotton is removed from the negotiating table. After all, the American taxpayer is not allowed to have a voice in the room who actually cares about the citizenry at least as much as illegal aliens. The problem is that Schumer and most other Democrats once upon a time supported what Cotton is trying to accomplish, at least in rhetoric. The reason Schumer is so disgruntled over the presence of people like Tom Cotton and Stephen Miller is because they have matched his knowledge of the immigration issue and deftly expose his double talk on the issue — double talk that has allowed him to get away with immigration fakery for 32 years as a member of both the House and the Senate.

The endless lies: “Immigration works for Americans”

Every bad outcome on immigration has emanated either from the unelected branches of government (administrative and judicial) or legislation that was sold to the American people as doing the opposite of its actual intent. This is true of the 1965 and 1990 immigration bills, the 1980 refugee bill, and the 1986 amnesty bill. It is widely known how Kennedy and other Democrats promised in 1965 that the new immigration system would not flood the country with poor chain migrants, undermine assimilation, and become a burden on Americans. What is less known is that the 1990 expansion of the ’65 Hart-Celler Act was actually designed to fix the flaws of the original bill (the flaws that were never supposed to exist), but once again did the exact opposite.

In 1989, there was a bipartisan consensus that there was too much chain migration, that there were too few immigrants of particular merit, and that the orientation of the immigrants wasn’t diverse enough. What they meant by diversity was that the Hart-Celler Act spawned a monopoly of immigration from Latin America and Asia, while locking out European immigrants. Schumer was lobbied heavily by the New York Irish community to increase immigration opportunities from Ireland, which eventually evolved into the diversity visa lottery. Contrary to popular thought, the diversity lottery was not designed to bring in more immigrants from the third world. Rather, it was designed to rectify the chain migration from the third world that locked out European immigration. And indeed, for the first three years of the diversity lottery, 40 percent of the visas were allocated to Ireland.

When the comprehensive bill was first introduced in the Senate Judiciary Committee by Sens. Alan Simpson and Ted Kennedy, it actually had a points system that prioritized English language proficiency and limited chain migration. But even as the bill was quietly being made into yet another expansionist bill, contrary to its initial pitch, Chuck Schumer was still promoting the bill as a way of moving from chain migration to a skills-based system and fostering more, not less, immigration from Europe. On October 3, 1990, Schumer lamented on the House floor how “only 4 percent of all immigration is employer-sponsored,” which “hurts our economy” and “hurts every American.” He said that this bill would correct that problem by making immigration based on skills because “immigration should be job related … it should help America grow economically.” He also said “immigration should be as diverse as it once was,” because “countries like Ireland, Italy, Poland, and Nigeria … cannot get people into this country, even though there are many people of that ancestry here.”

Not only did Schumer lament family-based migration shutting out merit-based migration, he actually touched on America’s ancestry and lamented the monopoly of Latin America over Europe. And he did so almost 30 years ago, when we were at the foot of the mountain of chain migration from those countries. That was 30 million immigrants ago, almost all brought here though chain migration, many of whom came in as a result of immigrants who came here after enactment of the bill Schumer supported, which was supposed to rectify what he admitted harmed America’s economy.

Yet he lied to us in 1990 about fixing legal immigration, just as he lied to us in 1986 about amnesty.

During debate over the ’86 amnesty, Schumer said the following:

“What is it not? It is not millions of people cascading across the border. … It is not welfare benefits for those folks immediately. In fact, it’s in the bill right now that they cannot get AFDC benefits. … It is not immediately wives, husbands, and children will come across. Not the case.”

Guess what? The highest rates of welfare usage are now from the countries of origin most associated with illegal migration; namely, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.

But it goes a step further.

Now those lies are home to roost

Schumer admitted amnesty was a gamble. Now he’s shamelessly asking us to gamble our future on the failed results of his first gamble. As reported by the New York Times, following passage of the amnesty, Schumer said something amazingly prescient:

”The bill is a gamble, a riverboat gamble. There is no guarantee that employer sanctions will work or that amnesty will work. We are headed into uncharted waters.”

To this day, we are paying for Schumer’s self-admitted gamble on amnesty and lies about enforcement with an entire new generation of illegal immigrants that he promised wouldn’t exist. We are paying for his lies about the 1990 bill that it would fix chain migration, as we are witnessing a wave of chain migration even the skeptics could never have imagined back then. We are paying for his lies about the diversity lottery, which was supposed to reorient immigration towards Europe and has instead opened the floodgates from the Middle East and has brought in some terrorists.

And here we are three decades later with this same man now leading the Democrat Party and shutting down the government in order to promote amnesty for the very people that came from his original amnesty. Are we to continue taking this man seriously?

Either way, it’s important to observe that once upon a time, Schumer at least felt the need to lie to the American people and actually speak like Tom Cotton and Stephen Miller. Even as late as 2009, Schumer had to speak with clarity on illegal immigration:

Except back then, very few called him out. Now he feels uncomfortable because Cotton has matched his institutional knowledge about the issue and is able to call BS on his duplicitous talk of enforcement.

Now Cotton has a bill that finally fulfills the bipartisan promise on chain migration. And Goodlatte has a bill incorporating both the Cotton bill and some sort of amnesty for 700,000 illegals. And Yet Schumer is rejecting something that he has expressed support for, on an issue for which he is personally responsible.

We’ve been doing amnesty since 1986, and we’ve been lied to about immigration in general since 1965. We haven’t been fixing legal immigration to end chain migration, which was a bipartisan promise that Schumer agreed to in 1990. Isn’t it time to first fulfill the promise to Americans before pursuing another amnesty?

There’s an important lesson from Schumer and Kennedy in the 1990 bill. Aristide Zolberg, one of the leading immigration historians of recent memory, asked the question in his scholarly book, “A Nation by Design,” how a bill that was introduced amidst anti-mass migration sentiment in the country wound up “moving in the opposite direction?” Citing other commentators, he noted that “while public support for a reduction in legal immigration was broad, it was not well-organized. … In contrast, a liberal coalition of well-organized organized groups, including ethnic organizations, churches, and employer associations, articulated strong opposition to proposals for restricting legal immigration.”

Schumer has moved full speed ahead on lies and subterfuge on immigration for decades because there was no organized and precise voice to give power to the silent majority on this issue. Nobody has stood for the forgotten American taxpayer, who must bear the burden of terrible immigration policy. That is changing with voices like Cotton and Stephen Miller. Which is why Chuck Schumer is no longer speaking the language of the American citizen — because there is now somebody on the playing field to hold him to account.

President Donald Trump spoke live via satellite at the March for Life in Washington, DC, on Friday, thanking pro-life activists for marching against abortion.

“The March for Life is a movement born out of love,” Trump said. “You love your families, you love your neighbors, you love our nation, and you love every child, born and unborn, because you believe that every life is sacred, that every child is a precious gift from God. We know that life is the greatest miracle of all.”

The president spoke from the Rose Garden surrounded by pro-life activists and even a few parents holding their babies. His remarks were streamed live via satellite to screens on the National Mall.

Trump condemned the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision for increasing abortions in the United States.

“It is wrong. It has to change,” he said.

At one point, Trump was supposed to criticize that “the laws allow a baby to be *torn* from his or her mother’s womb in the ninth month” – but, instead, he mistakenly said, “born.”

“Americans are more and more pro-life,” he continued. “You see that all the time. In fact, only 12 percent of Americans support abortion on demand at any time. Under my administration, we will always defend the very first right in the Declaration of Independence, and that is the right to life.”

Trump also endorsed the federal 20-week abortion ban and called for the Senate to pass it.

“I call upon the Senate to pass this important law and send it to my desk for signing,” he said.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Friday morning that a government shutdown would have a “terrible impact” on military operations.

“Our maintenance activities will probably pretty much shut down. We will not be able to induct any more of our gear that need maintenance,” he said Friday morning at the Johns Hopkins University, where he was unveiling the National Defense Strategy.

The government is barreling towards a shutdown at 11:59 p.m. Friday night, with the Senate unable to pass a 2018 spending bill or a stop-gap measure to keep the government running. At issue is immigration reform. Democrats have refused to pass a spending measure unless there is a fix for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which the president rescinded last year, but gave Congress until March 5 to fix.

Republicans argue Democrats are willing to put the issue ahead of the U.S. military, which has been seriously affected by budget instability.

In the event of a shutdown, troops and some civilians will continue to report to work and accrue pay, but will not receive paychecks during the shutdown.

Mattis said half of his civilian workers would be furloughed, which would impact operations from contracting to military medical facilities.

“There is any number of projects we have underway that keep me at the top of my game and our military at the top of our game that are handled by civilians,” he said.

“It’s got a huge morale impact,” he added. “I’ll just tell you — how long can you keep good people around when something like this happens, is always a question that’s got to hover around in the back of my mind.”

He said intelligence operations would also be impacted.

“I would just tell you that we do a lot of intelligence operations around the world and they cost money. Those obviously would stop,” he said.

Troops themselves would also be impacted, Mattis said. While active duty troops would continue to report for duty during a shutdown, reservists would not report for duty For example, he said, “this morning or last night young guys and gals somewhere in Wyoming were driving off to do their weekend duty.”

“Those troops will arrive there at their armories, by the way, and told go home if there’s a government shutdown, and they will then drive a couple hundred miles back home. These again are stoic men and women, they’ll suck it up and say okay,” he said.

“And I would just tell you that training for almost our entire reserve force will stop and you must understand the critical importance of our reserves,” he said.

He called reserve troops the “only shock absorber” the U.S. military has.

“It’s not like the old days where you could draft somebody in and 18 weeks later have them in combat with the skills they need.

“Today’s infantrymen, they’re called infantrymen because they’re infant solders, young soldiers. They still take a year to train in order to have them ready to use the gear they have on them and make certain they have the ethical and tactical abilities to deal with the battlefield today,” he said.

“So it’s got a terrible impact.”

Chief Pentagon Spokesperson Dana White tweeted on Friday:

“The government shutdown is destructive and puts unnecessary stress on the already stressful jobs of our service members. Time to put the money where the votes are and write the check! #FY18budget #PassTheBudget.”

186 House Democrats voted against keeping the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) funded for the next six years as they opposed a stopgap spending measure in the House of Representatives Thursday that would keep the government open for the next four weeks.

Senate Democrats were likewise poised to vote against CHIP, as they declared earlier in the day that they had the votes to filibuster the spending bill and shut down the government. (Republicans have taken to calling the impending shutdown the “Schumer shutdown,” for Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY), in response.)

CHIP provides funds for health insurance for children from low-income families who are not poor enough to be eligible for Medicaid. CHIP funding is the number one issue for American voters overall, according to a recent poll by Politico and the Harvard University School of Public Health.

When he won Alabama’s special election for the U.S. Senate last month, Doug Jones called on both parties to put politics aside and vote to fund the CHIP program:

“Take this election,” Jones said, “take this election where the people of Alabama said we want to get something done, we want you to find common ground, we want you to talk. Take this opportunity in light of this election and go ahead and fund that CHIP program before I get up there. Put it aside and let’s do it for those million kids and 150,000 here in Birmingham, Alabama.”

Congress did not do so, but Jones proposed a bill last week that would extend CHIP funding for five years — one year shorter than the stopgap spending bill Democrats are rejecting.

CNN political analyst Gloria Borger offered her version of Democrats’ argument Thursday: “If this is so important to you Republicans, why didn’t you take it up earlier this year when you could have, when the Democrats wanted to deal with it? I mean, children’s health insurance is something that you can bring up on the floor any time and renew it, and they’ve been screaming about it — the Democrats have been screaming about it for quite some time.”

Voters in contested House and Senate districts this year can expect to see Republican advertisements noting that Democratic incumbents voted against funding CHIP. Only six House Democrats broke ranks to vote with the GOP.

Illegal Alien Stabbing Suspect Is Seven-Time Deported Felon

Weeks after Eulalio Miniz Orozco was arrested in December as the suspect in a California restaurant stabbing, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has revealed that he has been deported seven times and has multiple criminal convictions on his record.

Orozco, 39, was arrested on December 27, allegedly for the December 21 stabbing of a 61-year-old man at Santa Rosa’s Lola’s Supermarket, according to local Fox2 News. The two men had been sitting at separate tables and had not spoken when the elderly man was attacked, according to local authorities. Video surveillance provided authorities with images of Orozco.

Orozco also goes by the alias Ricardo Velasquez-Romero, an ICE official told the Daily Caller (DC).

Similarly, the illegal alien prosecuted for the killing of Kate Steinle in San Francisco was known for months as Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez before ICE officials were able to determine that this was actually just one of the aliases for Jose Garcia Zarate.

In Orozco’s case, ICE placed a detainer request on Orozco on December 28 in connection with the stabbing, ICE spokesman James Schwab told the DC. Schwab added that according to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) databases, Orozco has been deported seven times since 2007 to his native Mexico and has a criminal record that includes felony drug and weapons charges.

Before initially tracking down Orozco, the Santa Rosa Police Department asked for the community’s help in identifying the stabbing suspect in the days after the crime, even offering a description from witnesses of “a large tattoo on one of his forearms of the grim reaper, commonly referred to as La Santa Muerte.” After tracking down leads that led to the arrest of the suspect, the department posted a photo of him. At the time, a motive for the crime was still unknown. The victim’s condition at the time was upgraded to stable.

Orozco was charged with attempted murder for the December 21 stabbing, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department. His Sonoma County Jail booking listed multiple charges in the case, including felony counts.

A DHS report released this week revealed that according to ICE:

From October 1, 2011, to September 30, 2017, a total of 355,345 non-U.S. citizen offenders were arrested by ICE for purposes of removal after previously having been convicted of an aggravated felony … or two or more crimes each punishable by more than one year (felony offenses).

In addition, during that period, “372,09821 non-U.S. citizen offenders were removed from the United States after conviction of an aggravated felony or two or more felonies.”

Apple CEO: Trump Tax Plan ‘Will Result in Job Creation and a Faster Growing Economy’

Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a recent interview that President Trump’s tax plan would result in a faster-growing economy and greater job creation.

In an interview with ABC News, Cook discussed a number of recent announcements by Apple, including their plan to invest $350 billion in the U.S. economy over the next five years and how President Trump’s tax plan will help the U.S. economy. Cook refused to “take a position” on how the new tax plan will affect individual Americans but commented on the corporate tax saying, “I do believe the corporate side will result in job creation and a faster growing economy.” Cook added that under Obama’s tax plan, the $38 billion tax payment the company plans to make as part of repatriating offshore cash would not have been paid.

“I hope — I have that faith — that it will be used for great purpose for the country,” said Cook, “whether that’s infrastructure or education, or what have you, that will further supply jobs in the U.S.” Cook criticized the Obama-era tax plans saying that he “never thought” that the old tax system was “good for the United States.” Cook stated that he believed the harsh tax restrictions forced “people to invest elsewhere instead of within the country.” Cook also believes that a company like Apple could only have been founded in America and they have a responsibility to give back to the country, “one of the ways to do that is to create jobs,” said Cook.

Cook also discussed the company’s decision to pay employees $2500 in stock grants, “We’re one of the few — we’re probably the only company of our size where every person is an owner in the company,” Cook said. “… Instead of a onetime kind of bonus, we wanted to do something that lasts a longer period of time.” Apple will reportedly be focusing on three areas in the future: direct employment by Apple, spending and investment with U.S. suppliers and manufacturers, and helping to grow the thriving app-store economy.

“We believe deeply in the power of American ingenuity,” said Cook, “and we are focusing our investments in areas where we can have a direct impact on job creation and job preparedness. We have a deep sense of responsibility to give back to our country and the people who help make our success possible,” Cook said in a press release.

‘ICE Has Your Six,’ Fed Immigration Chief Tells California Cops. Acting Director Thomas Homan pledged agency ‘will never turn our back on law enforcement’ in this sanctuary state

Speaking on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” Thursday night, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) acting Director Thomas Homan assured local California police officials that “ICE has your six” and “will never turn our back on law enforcement.”

Homan spoke specifically to officers in the Oakland Police Department, the day after the city council voted unanimously to cease cooperating with ICE and its operations. California lawmakers approved legislation last year making it a sanctuary state in 2018.

The acting director promised the officers that “if you’re out there doing a lawful operation and you are in need of assistance, if you find yourself in trouble and there’s an ICE agent within earshot or in the area, we will do everything we can in our legal authority to assist you.”

“We will do everything we can to make sure you go home safe to your families,” he said. “We will never turn our back on law enforcement. ICE has your six.” Having somebody’s “six” is a military/law enforcement term referring to covering a colleague’s back from attack.

Liberal California politicians and officials expressed outrage earlier in the week when it was reported ICE was planning to crack down on illegal immigrants and conduct sweeping raids across Northern California despite the state’s sanctuary status. Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) even wrote a letter to Homan on Wednesday in which they denounced the “troubling reports” of impending immigration raids.

“We firmly believe that law enforcement must prioritize dangerous criminals, not undocumented immigrants who do not pose a threat to public safety,” the Democrats wrote. “Diverting resources in an effort to punish California and score political points is an abhorrent abuse of power, not to mention a terrible misuse of scarce resources.”

But Homan offered a message of his own to Feinstein and Harris, noting that ICE’s decision to increase its resources in California “is in direct response to the sanctuary laws that forced me in that position.”

“Let me say this about the [senators] that wrote the letter — I didn’t think Congress is in the business of enacting laws they don’t want law enforcement to enforce,” Homan said. “I’m enforcing the laws that Congress enacted. And for them to say that I shouldn’t be enforcing the laws, there would be no integrity in the entire system.”

“We’re simply a law enforcement agency that has a sworn duty to enforce the laws of this country,” he added. “I’m doing what they tell me to do. I’m enforcing laws that they enacted. I’m enforcing laws that the president has signed.”

The acting ICE director also asked whether there are any other federal or local law enforcement agencies around “where congressmen or elected officials or attorney generals say, ‘Do not enforce the law,’” noting that “no one asks the FBI not to enforce law.”
