Texas Right to Life receives bomb threat at Austin office: ‘This is a spiritual war’

A Texas-based pro-life activist organization received a new bomb threat against one of its offices, allegedly due to its support for the state’s controversial heartbeat abortion ban restricting abortion as early as six weeks into pregnancy. Texas Right to Life released a statement Monday explaining that its legislative office in Austin had received a bomb threat that morning. The threat came in the form of what the lobbying group labeled a “suspicious letter” sent to the office, which threatened to bomb the organization and said that they should expect to “receive the bodies of aborted babies.”

Authorities arrived at the office at 11:40 a.m., according to the statement. The Austin Police Department is investigating the incident.

“Devaluing life inside the womb inevitably leads to violence outside the womb,” Texas Right to Life President Elizabeth Graham said in a statement. “These recent crimes demonstrate the brokenness, anger, and pain of the pro-abortion movement. We pray for the perpetrator, that he or she may find healing in Christ, and we ask for prayers for our staff.”

Kimberlyn Schwartz, director of media and communication for Texas Right to Life, told The Christian Post in a statement Thursday that the most recent threat and other threats they have received are “heartbreaking.”

“These threats are heartbreaking, not only because they endanger our staff, but also because they reveal the anger and pain that abortion leaves on the hearts of its proponents,” stated Schwartz.

“Ultimately, this is a spiritual war. Texas Right to Life is taking ground from deep in the Evil One’s territory and proclaiming the sanctity of Life. Now is the time for all Christians to stand up for preborn children and pray for the end of abortion.”

In another email cited by The Texas Citizen Journal, Graham said the organization is working with the Austin Police Department and the FBI to determine the validity of the threat.  According to Texas Right to Life, the threatening letter stated: “LETS BOMB TEXAS FOR LIFE AND CHANGE IT TO – TEXAS FOR DEATH.”

Texas Right to Life, which was instrumental in helping craft Texas’ new abortion law, received an email in September from someone threatening to blow up its headquarters in Bellaire. A suspicious package was delivered to that office later that day. The facility was evacuated and bomb experts from Houston checked the package, which turned out to not have an explosive device inside.

“Texas Right to Life did the right thing in contacting the police,” said the Bellaire Police Department in a statement to CP in September.

“It was fortunate that our officers were on scene when the suspicious package was delivered and we appreciate the occupants of the building working with police to quickly clear out in the event that this was an actual bomb.”

In May, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed the Texas Heartbeat Act prohibiting most abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, usually about six weeks into a pregnancy. The law is not enforced through state officials but rather through private citizens given financial incentives to sue abortion providers and anyone who helps a pregnant woman procure an abortion.  Despite multiple pre-enforcement legal challenges, including from the Biden administration, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed the controversial legislation to take effect on Sept. 1.

On Nov. 1, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments for around three hours on the Texas law, focusing on the means through which the ban was enforced.

“Since the Texas Heartbeat Act took effect September 1, abortion advocates wished rape upon our female staff and their daughters, left vicious voicemails, circulated the home addresses of employees online, and threatened to bomb our offices twice within four months,” Texas Right to Life’s Monday statement reads. “Texas Right to Life has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of our staff since we became the target of violent messages online and by phone due to the Texas Heartbeat Act.”

In September, an Oklahoma man was arrested for making death threats to pro-life Texas legislators.

Judge orders Texas to suspend new law banning most abortions

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A federal judge on Wednesday ordered Texas to suspend the most restrictive abortion law in the U.S., calling it an “offensive deprivation” of a constitutional right by banning most abortions in the nation’s second-most populous state since September. The order by U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman is the first legal blow to the Texas law known as Senate Bill 8, which until now had withstood a wave of early challenges. In the weeks since the restrictions took effect, Texas abortion providers say the impact has been “exactly what we feared.”

In a 113-page opinion, Pitman took Texas to task over the law, saying Republican lawmakers had “contrived an unprecedented and transparent statutory scheme” by leaving enforcement solely in the hands of private citizens, who are entitled to collect $10,000 in damages if they bring successful lawsuits against abortion providers who violate the restrictions. The law, signed by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in May, prohibits abortions once cardiac activity is detected, which is usually around six weeks, before some women even know they are pregnant.

“From the moment S.B. 8 went into effect, women have been unlawfully prevented from exercising control over their lives in ways that are protected by the Constitution,” wrote Pitman, who was appointed to the bench by former President Barack Obama.

“That other courts may find a way to avoid this conclusion is theirs to decide; this Court will not sanction one more day of this offensive deprivation of such an important right.”

But even with the law on hold, abortion services in Texas may not instantly resume because doctors still fear that they could be sued without a more permanent legal decision. Planned Parenthood said it was hopeful the order would allow clinics to resume abortion services as soon as possible.

Texas officials swiftly told the court of their intention to seek a reversal from the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which previously allowed the restrictions to take effect.

The lawsuit was brought by the Biden administration, which has said the restrictions were enacted in defiance of the U.S. Constitution. Attorney General Merrick Garland called the order “a victory for women in Texas and for the rule of law.”

The law had been in effect since Sept. 1.

“For more than a month now, Texans have been deprived of abortion access because of an unconstitutional law that never should have gone into effect. The relief granted by the court today is overdue, and we are grateful that the Department of Justice moved quickly to seek it,” said Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Texas Right to Life, the state’s largest anti-abortion group, said the order was not unexpected.

“This is ultimately the legacy of Roe v. Wade, that you have activist judges bending over backwards, bending precedent, bending the law, in order to cater to the abortion industry,” said Kimberlyn Schwartz, a spokeswoman for the group. “These activist judges will create their conclusion first: that abortion is a so-called constitutional right and then work backwards from there.”

Abortion providers say their fears have become reality in the short time the law has been in effect. Planned Parenthood says the number of patients from Texas at its clinics in the state decreased by nearly 80% in the two weeks after the law took effect. Some providers have said that Texas clinics are now in danger of closing while neighboring states struggle to keep up with a surge of patients who must drive hundreds of miles. Other women, they say, are being forced to carry pregnancies to term. Other states, mostly in the South, have passed similar laws that ban abortion within the early weeks of pregnancy, all of which judges have blocked. A 1992 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court prevented states from banning abortion before viability, the point at which a fetus can survive outside the womb, around 24 weeks of pregnancy.

But Texas’ version had so far outmaneuvered the courts because it leaves enforcement to private citizens to file suits, not prosecutors, which critics say amounts to a bounty.

“This is not some kind of vigilante scheme,” said Will Thompson, counsel for the Texas Attorney General’s Office, while defending the law to Pitman last week. “This is a scheme that uses the normal, lawful process of justice in Texas.”

The Texas law is just one that has set up the biggest test of abortion rights in the U.S. in decades, and it is part of a broader push by Republicans nationwide to impose new restrictions on abortion.

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court began a new term, which in December will include arguments in Mississippi’s bid to overturn 1973’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision guaranteeing a woman’s right to an abortion. Last month, the court did not rule on the constitutionality of the Texas law in allowing it to remain in place. But abortion providers took that 5-4 vote as an ominous sign about where the court might be heading on abortion after its conservative majority was fortified with three appointees of former President Donald Trump.

Ahead of the new Supreme Court term, Planned Parenthood on Friday released a report saying that if Roe v. Wade were overturned, 26 states are primed to ban abortion. This year alone, nearly 600 abortion restrictions have been introduced in statehouses nationwide, with more than 90 becoming law, according to Planned Parenthood.

Texas officials argued in court filings that even if the law were put on hold temporarily, providers could still face the threat of litigation over violations that might occur in the time between a permanent ruling.

At least one Texas abortion provider has admitted to violating the law and been sued — but not by abortion opponents. Former attorneys in Illinois and Arkansas say they sued a San Antonio doctor in hopes of getting a judge who would invalidate the law.

Pro-life, pro-abortion activism labeled as domestic violent extremist threat in US intel report

Reported By Ryan Foley, Christian Post Reporter

Pro-life and pro-choice activists gather at the Supreme Court for the National March for Life rally in Washington January 27, 2017. | REUTERS/Aaron P. Bernstein

A report declassified last week by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security named both pro-life and pro-abortion activists on a list of domestic violent extremist groups.

The March 1 report, compiled by the Director of National Intelligence, concluded that “domestic violent extremists (DVEs) who are motivated by a range of ideologies and galvanized by recent political and societal events in the United States pose an elevated threat to the homeland in 2021.” The document included a list of “categories” of “domestic violent extremists” but did not mention any specific group or organization by name.

A pro-abortion activist yells at pro-life supporters (not pictured) in front of the Supreme Court during the National March for Life rally in Washington January 22, 2016. The rally marks the 43rd anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 abortion ruling in Roe v. Wade. | Reuters/Gary Cameron

While pro-life activists generally carry out their advocacy peacefully, there have been instances of violence committed against abortion providers, advocates and clinics.
“Abortion-related domestic violent extremists,”
defined as “DVEs with ideological agendas in support of pro-life or pro-choice beliefs” were listed as one of the categories of domestic violent extremists identified by the intelligence community. The report maintained that “mere advocacy of political or social positions, political activism” and “use of strong rhetoric may not constitute violent extremism, and may be constitutionally protected.”

More broadly, “domestic violence extremists” were defined as “U.S.-based actors who conduct or threaten activities that are dangerous to human life in violation of the criminal laws of the United States or any state; appearing to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; and influence the government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping.”

  • In 2015, Robert Dear opened fire on a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs, Colorado, killing three people and injuring several others. He told police “no more baby parts,” referring to undercover videos documenting Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of aborted babies’ organs, tissue and limbs.
  • In 2009, noted abortionist George Tiller was murdered as he attended church in Kansas. Scott Roeder was arrested for the crime and his ex-wife alleged that “he was very vocal about his anti-abortion views” while stressing that she never thought he would “go this far.”

Even before the motive of the shooter was revealed, pro-life groups were quick to condemn the slaying of the abortion provider. The pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List described Tiller’s murder as an “anti-life act,” with its President Marjorie Dannenfelser asserting that “the rights of one human being can never be honored by diminishing or ignoring the rights of another.”

Additionally, someone named Scott Roeder had left comments on the pro-life website Operation Rescue, comparing Tiller to a Nazi death-camp doctor, who “needs to be stopped before he and those who protect him bring judgment upon our nation.” Operation Rescue explained that Roeder had “never been a member, contributor, or volunteer with the organization,” and that thousands of people post on the website’s public forum on a daily basis.

  • Other examples of anti-abortion violence include the 1997 bombing of an Atlanta, Georgia-area abortion clinic and the 1999 arson of a South Dakota Planned Parenthood. While the attacks against pro-abortion activists and clinics have received a great deal of media attention, pro-life protesters have also been subject to acts of violence.
  • In 2015, an abortion supporter threw a Molotov cocktail at two pro-life protesters gathered outside a Planned Parenthood in Texas. The perpetrator had previously testified against Senate Bill 1, a measure designed to limit abortions after 20 weeks gestation. According to World Net Daily, she claimed during her testimony that “unwanted pregnancy occurs in victims of rape from the ages of 9 to 90.”
  • In 2009,  pro-life activist Jim Pouillon was murdered as he held a pro-life sign depicting an aborted baby in front of a high school in his Michigan hometown. A former city councilman testified that in the days leading up to the murder, the shooter’s mother had called him multiple times to complain about Pouillon in a tone that he described as “evil” and “nasty.”

The former congressman also said that she told him she wanted to “send her boys over to go see Jim” and commented after the murder that “I have solved the city’s problem, my son has shot Jim Pouillon.” The judge overseeing the case refused to let the jury hear the former congressman’s testimony, which he characterized as “hearsay.” Then-President Barack Obama, an outspoken supporter of abortion, condemned Pouillon’s murder, saying that “whichever side of a public debate you’re on, violence is never the right answer.”

  • Just as abortion clinics have faced violence, so too have pro-life pregnancy centers. In 2016, a pro-life pregnancy center in New Mexico was set on fire. In 2019, a pro-life event at a Minnesota college had to be evacuated because of a bomb threat.

While no one was seriously injured at the Minnesota pro-life event, the perpetrator left behind a “stink bomb” that can cause “nausea and headaches,” “eye irritation, a loss of smell, pulmonary edema, and even death.” People seated near where the “stink bomb” was located “began to feel sick, and were coughing and feeling light-headed” while “at least three people reported headaches and chest irritation.”

Court Rules Pro-Life Views Are “Patently Offensive,” Bans Choose Life License Plates in New York

waving flagReported by Steven Ertelt   May 25, 2015   |   Albany, NY

URL of the Original Posting Site: http://www.lifenews.com/2015/05/25/court-rules-pro-life-views-are-patently-offensive-bans-choose-life-license-plates-in-new-York/forced compliance

Tyranney AlertA federal appeals court has issued a ruling banning Choose Life license plates in New York state and claimed in its decision that pro-life views are “patently offensive.” The court issued ruling in The Children First Foundation v. Fiala,  which rejects a pro-adoption group’s application to sponsor a “Choose Life” specialty plate with the New York Department of Motor Vehicles. The appeals court ruling overturned a lower court decision upholding the right of drivers in New York to purchase the pro-life plates.Free Speech Definition

As the Daily Caller reports:

A new decision by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals holds that New York’s state government has the right to ban “Choose Life” license plates on the grounds that such a statement is “patently offensive.”

The dispute stems from a now-suspended program offered by New York’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) which allowed private organizations to create custom license plates. If drivers purchased the plates, the purchasing price was split between the DMV and the non-profit.

The Children First Foundation (CFF), an organization promoting adoption as an alternative to abortion, submitted a design for a “Choose Life” license plate, which featured a drawing of two children’s faces in front of a yellow sun.

The proposed plate was rejected, with the DMV citing a policy that allows it to ban “patently offensive” plates in order to prevent incidents of road rage. The “patently offensive” category in U.S. speech is typically related to public obscenity laws, and allows for limitations on things like the public display of pornography or other materials that blatantly violate community standards.War on Christians

Judge Rosemary Pooler, a Clinton appointee, agreed with New York’s position in her majority opinion. She took this view even though she also ruled that license plates are private speech subject to First Amendment protections. Despite these protections, however, she said that so many New Yorkers could find a plate advocating an anti-abortion position “patently offensive” that the DMV was justified in suppressing the speech.

In a strong dissent, Judge Debra Ann Livingston said the court was essentially granting the New York DMV the right to suppress any viewpoints it did not like.cropped-different-free-speech-ideologies.jpg

Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Legal Counsel Jeremy Tedesco decried the decision.

“Pro-adoption organizations should have the same speech rights as any other organization. While the district court affirmed this basic freedom, the circuit court denied free speech in favor of government censorship. The state doesn’t have the authority to target The Children First Foundation specialty plates for censorship based on its life-affirming viewpoint. The state has wrongly gotten away with speech discrimination against our client for more than 10 years. We will review our legal options.”

The battle to allow motorists to purchase Choose Life license plates has been going on in the Empire State for years.

Alliance Defense Fund attorneys filed the lawsuit on behalf of The Children First Foundation in 2004 against state officials who denied its attempt to allow motorists to purchase Choose Life license plates. The New York Department of Motor Vehicles rejected CFF’s design in August 2002 — considering it “too political and controversial” to approve. The organization redesigned the plate, adding the group’s web site to it to better explain its purpose, and the DMV rejected it again.

The state dismissed the attempt to create the plate and said it was rejected in order “to avoid any appearance of governmental support for either side in the divisive national abortion debate.”Liberalism a mental disorder 2

Saying its free speech rights were denied, Children First filed suit with assistance from Alliance Defense Fund attorneys and, in January 2005, a federal judge ruled it had sufficiently argued its First Amendment rights would be violated.

The Second Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed then-Attorney General Eliot Spitzer’s second attempt to ban the plates and allowed the lawsuit to move forward. The DMV eventually suspended review of specialty plates — a move that Elizabeth Rex, president of the Children First Foundation, says was done specifically to block the Choose Life plate.

Notre Dame won a victory at the Supreme Court earlier this year. After a lower court dismissed the lawsuit, in March the Supreme Court ordered the lower court to reconsider its ruling that denied a Catholic university the freedom to follow its faith. But, today, a panel of a federal appeals court ruled that Notre Dame must comply with the mandate.Complete Message

SCOTUS blog has more on the decision the appeals court issued:Tyranney Alert

In a two-to-one ruling, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit cleared the way for a trial of the university’s challenge but denied any immediate religious exemption.

This marked the first time that a federal appeals court had rejected a claim that the Supreme Court’s ruling last June in the case of Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores should shield a non-profit religious organization from any role whatsoever in carrying out the Affordable Care Act’s contraceptive mandate. The issue seems certain to return to the Justices, probably next Term, although Notre Dame could try to get some temporary relief by returning quickly to the Supreme Court.

The university’s case has yet to go to trial in a federal district court, so the appeals court ruling was limited to denying preliminary protection for the university in the meantime.  Still, it was a strong signal that the Roman Catholic institution may have a hard time, at least in lower courts, getting an exemption.burke

Although the government has made clear that non-profit groups need to take only a minimal step to take advantage of a religious exemption, Notre Dame — like some other non-profits — has been arguing that even taking such a step would mean that it had helped to implement the mandate in a way that violates its religious opposition to birth control.

Although the Supreme Court has now issued four temporary orders in non-profit cases, it has made clear that none of those was a decision on whether such institutions will ultimately be spared any role at all under the ACA mandate.  This Term, the Court has sent two of those cases — Notre Dame’s was one of them — back to appeals courts to examine the impact, if any, that the Hobby Lobby ruling would have on the non-profit sector.

Circuit Judge Joel M. Flaum dissented, saying that Notre Dame had already made a case for an exemption, and so enforcement of the mandate should have been blocked.

The university has the legal option of asking for further review by the en banc Seventh Circuit or instead returning to the Supreme Court.   The Justices have only about six more weeks remaining in the current Term, so it would be too late to get a formal appeal decided before the summer recess.CP 01

After the ruling, pro-life Indiana Senator Dan Coats criticized the decision.

“Requiring faith-based institutions to betray the fundamental tenets of their beliefs is unconstitutional and contrary to the cherished American tradition of religious liberty. Whether it is Notre Dame or many other faith-based institutions of higher learning, the thread of faith that runs through these schools is essential to their religious beliefs and successful administration of a faith in learning education. This same thread of faith is vital to food banks, homeless shelters and many important organizations addressing social needs in Indiana and across the country,” he said.

Coats continued: “Under our Constitution, all people of all faiths have the right to exercise their faith within the bounds of our justice system, even if their beliefs seem to some as misguided, flawed or flat out wrong. Faith-based institutions should not have to facilitate insurance coverage for products that are counter to their religious or moral beliefs.”Worship manditory

compliancePreviously, U.S. District Judge Robert L. Miller Jr. dismissed the suit, claiming that Notre Dame is sufficiently protected by a very narrowly-drawn religious exemption in the mandate — that pro-life legal groups say does not apply to every religious entity. Then, a three-judge panel from the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the decision on a 2-1 vote.

In appealing that decision, the University of Notre Dame brought its request to the Supreme Court — saying the lower court decision made it the only nonprofit religious ministry in the nation without protection from the HHS mandate. The Supreme Court’s ruling today vacates the entire lower court decision forcing Notre Dame to comply and the 7th Circuit must now review its decision taking into consideration the entire Hobby Lobby case I want your religious libertyupholding that company’s right to not be forced into compliance.

The Obama administration has relied heavily on that lower court decision in other courts around the country, arguing that it should be able to impose similar burdens on religious ministries like the Little Sisters of the Poor.

After the Supreme Court ruling in the Notre Dame case, the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which filed an amicus brief in the case, commented on the decision.

notredame2

“This is a major blow to the federal government’s contraception mandate. For the past year, the Notre Dame decision has been the centerpiece of the government’s effort to force religious ministries to violate their beliefs or pay fines to the IRS.” said Mark Rienzi, Senior Counsel of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which filed an amicus brief in the case. “As with the Supreme Court’s decisions in Little Sisters of the Poor and Hobby Lobby, this is a strong signal that the Supreme Court will ultimately reject the government’s narrow view of religious liberty. The government fought hard to prevent this GVR, but the Supreme Court rejected their arguments.”

tyrantsHe said University of Notre Dame’s pursuit of higher education is defined by its religious convictions. Its mission statement reads: “A Catholic university draws its basic inspiration from Jesus Christ as the source of wisdom and from the conviction that in him all things can be brought to their completion.” Its fight to stay true to its beliefs has brought it all the way to the Supreme Court – and back to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

According to Rienzi, over 750 plaintiffs in the other nonprofit cases have been granted protection from the unconstitutional mandate, which forces religious ministries to either violate their faith or pay massive IRS penalties.

A December 2013 Rasmussen Reports poll shows Americans disagree with forcing companies like Hobby Lobby to obey the mandate.

“Half of voters now oppose a government requirement that employers provide health insurance with free contraceptives for their female employees,” Rasmussen reports.

The poll found: “The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 38% of Likely U.S. Voters still believe businesses should be required by law to provide health insurance that covers all government-approved contraceptives for women without co-payments or other charges to the patient.’

“Fifty-one percent (51%) disagree and say employers should not be required to provide health insurance with this type of coverage. Eleven percent (11%) are not sure.”

Another recent poll found 59 percent of Americans disagree with the mandate.Welcome to the Obama Change Obey OARLogo Picture6

House Passes Pro-Life Bill Banning Late-Term Abortions After 20 Weeks

waving flagReported by Steven Ertelt   May 13, 2015, Washington, DC

Should the Senate approve the bill, President Barack Obama has issued a veto threat. But pro-life groups hope to use the measure as an election tool in 2016 in an attempt to wrest control of the White House and approve a pro-life president who will sign it into law.

During the debate today on a bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks, Congressman Sean Duffy gave what may be one of the most passionate defenses of the pro-life position ever seen on the floor of Congress. Duffy took on the claim often made by Democrats who support abortion saying they stand for the defenseless and voiceless.

“I’ve listened to the floor debate day after day .. about how they fight for the forgotten, they fight for the defenseless, they fight for the voiceless. And they pound their chest and stomp their feet. You don’t have anyone in our society that’s more defenseless than these little babies,” he said. “And we are not taking — I believe in conception. I know my colleagues can’t agree with me on that. Can’t we come together and say we are going to stand with little babies that feel pain, that survive outside the womb? Ones that don’t have lobbyists and money? Don’t we stand with those little babies?”Picture15 Picture14

“If you stand with the defenseless, with the voiceless, you have to stand with little babies. Don’t talk to me about cruelty in our bill — when you look at little babies being dismembered, feeling excruciating pain, if we can’t stand to defend these children, what do we stand for in this institution?” he added.

The vote for the bill came on the anniversary of the conviction of late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell, who killed babies in a live-birth abortion process.

“Two years ago today, Pennsylvania abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell was convicted of murder, conspiracy to kill and involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to life imprisonment,” Congressman Chris Smith said.

“Even though the news of Gosnell’s child slaughter was largely suppressed by the mainstream media, many of my colleagues may remember that Dr. Gosnell operated a large Philadelphia abortion clinic where women died and countless babies were dismembered or chemically destroyed often by having their spinal cords snipped—all gruesome procedures causing excruciating pain to the victim,” he added. “The Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act is needed now more than ever because there are Gosnells all over America, dismembering and decapitating pain-capable babies for profit.”

“Fresh impetus for the bill came from a huge study of nearly 5,000 babies—preemies—published last week in the New England Journal of Medicine. The next day, a New York Times article titled: “Premature Babies May Survive at 22 Weeks if Treated” touted the Journal’s extraordinary findings of survival and hope,” Congressman Smith continued. “Thus the babies we seek to protect from harm today may survive if treated humanely, with expertise and compassion—not the cruelty of the abortion.”oct172014 02

This is the second time the House has voted for the legislation — having approved it in May 2013. The bill was then blocked by pro-abortion Democrats who controlled the U.S. Senate. During the hearing on the last bill, former abortion practitioner Anthony Levatino told members of the committee the gruesome details of his former abortion practice and how he became pro-life following the tragic automobile accident of his child.

Another bombshell dropped during the hearing came from Dr. Maureen Condic, who is Associate Professor of Neurobiology and Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine. She testified that the unborn child is capable of reacting to pain as early as 8-10 weeks. This is when most abortions in America take place.

Americans strongly support legislation that would ban late-term abortions and protect babies who are capable of feeling intense pain during an abortion.

The vast majority of Americans are still very uncomfortable with abortion, according to a January Marist University poll. The survey finds support for abortion restrictions among both “pro-life” and “pro-choice” supporters. Despite the strong support, President Barack Obama has threatened to veto the pro-life bill.

According to the national survey, 84% of Americans want significant restrictions on abortion, and would limit abortions to, at most, the first three months of pregnancy. This includes almost 7 in 10 (69 percent) who identify themselves as “pro-choice” who support such abortion limits and oppose late-term abortions. The same percentage (84 percent) also says that laws can protect both the well-being of a woman and the life of the unborn. In addition, by more than 20 points (60 percent to 38 percent), Americans say abortion is morally wrong.

Other national polls also show strong support nationwide for the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and stopping late-term abortions. A poll conducted for the liberal Huffington Post find Americans support the ban on late-term abortions starting at 20-weeks of pregnancy by almost a 2-1 margin. A national poll by The Polling Company found that, after being informed that there is scientific evidence that unborn children are capable of feeling pain at least by 20 weeks, 64% would support a law banning abortion after 20 weeks, unless the mother’s life was in danger.   Only 30% said they would oppose such a law.burke

A November 2014 poll from Quinnipiac found that 60 percent of Americans support legislation limiting abortions after 20 weeks, including 56 percent of Independents and 46 percent of Democrats. The bill relies on the science of fetal pain to establish a Constitutional reason for Congress to ban abortions late in pregnancy. The science behind the concept of fetal pain is fully established and Dr. Steven Zielinski, an internal medicine physician from Oregon, is one of the leading researchers into it. He first published reports in the 1980s to validate research showing evidence for it. He has testified before Congress that an unborn child could feel pain at “eight-and-a-half weeks and possibly earlier” and that a baby before birth “under the right circumstances, is capable of crying.”Ki;lling a baby with poison

He and his colleagues Dr. Vincent J. Collins and Thomas J. Marzen  were the top researchers to point to fetal pain decades ago. Collins, before his death, was Professor of Anesthesiology at Northwestern University and the University of Illinois and author of Principles of Anesthesiology, one of the leading medical texts on the control of pain. “The functioning neurological structures necessary to suffer pain are developed early in a child’s development in the womb,” they wrote. “Functioning neurological structures necessary for pain sensation are in place as early as 8 weeks, but certainly by 13 1/2 weeks of gestation. Sensory nerves, including nociceptors, reach the skin of the fetus before the 9th week of gestation. The first detectable brain activity occurs in the thalamus between the 8th and 10th weeks. The movement of electrical impulses through the neural fibers and spinal column takes place between 8 and 9 weeks gestation. By 13 1/2 weeks, the entire sensory nervous system functions as a whole in all parts of the body,” they continued.

With Zielinski and his colleagues the first to provide the scientific basis for the concept of fetal pain, Dr. Kanwaljeet Anand has provided further research to substantiate their work. One leading expert in the field of fetal pain, Dr. Kanwaljeet S. Anand at the University of Tennessee, stated in his expert report commissioned by the U.S. Department of Justice, “It is my opinion that the human fetus possesses the ability to experience pain from 20 weeks of gestation, if not earlier, and the pain perceived by a fetus is possibly more intense than that perceived by term newborns or older children.”

“The neural pathways are present for pain to be experienced quite early by unborn babies,” explains Steven Calvin, M.D., perinatologist, chair of the Program in Human Rights Medicine, University of Minnesota, where he teaches obstetrics.

Dr. Colleen A. Malloy, Assistant Professor, Division of Neonatology at Northwestern University in her testimony before the House Judiciary Committee in May 2012 said, “[w]hen we speak of infants at 22 weeks LMP [Note: this is 20 weeks post fertilization], for example, we no longer have to rely solely on inferences or ultrasound imagery, because such premature patients are kicking, moving, reacting, and developing right before our eyes in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.”

“In today’s medical arena, we resuscitate patients at this age and are able to witness their ex-utero growth and development. Medical advancement and technology have enabled us to improve our ability to care for these infants…In fact, standard of care for neonatal intensive care units requires attention to and treatment of neonatal pain,” Dr. Malloy testified. She continued, “[t]hus, the difference between fetal and neonatal pain is simply the locale in which the pain occurs. The receiver’s experience of the pain is the same. I could never imagine subjecting my tiny patients to horrific procedures such as those that involve limb detachment or cardiac injection.”mommy can you feel me

Other provisions in H.R. 36 include:

  • An Informed Consent Form including the age of the child; a description of the law; an explanation that if the baby is born-alive, he or she will be given medical assistance and transported to a hospital; and information about the woman’s right to sue if these protections are not followed.  Women deserve this information.
  • The woman is empowered with a Civil Right of Action, so she may sue abortion providers who fail to comply with the law. Parents are also given a civil right of action if the law is not followed with regard to their minor daughter.Let God

Texas Pro-Life Lawmakers Cause Stir With Signs Saying, “Former Fetus”

Posted by Sarah Zagorski   Mar 11, 2015, Austin, TX

URL of the Original Posting Site: http://www.lifenews.com/2015/03/11/texas-pro-life-lawmakers-cause-stir-with-signs-saying-former-fetus/

In Texas, pro-life signs calling some state lawmakers “former fetuses” are causing controversy at the state Capitol. On March 11, Rep. Jonathan Strickland (R-Bedford) said Rep. Charlie Geren (R-Fort Worth) tore down his pro-life sign. Rep. Strickland said, “It’s just been ripped down and thrown in my staffer’s face by Charlie Geren. I thought it was absolutely handled in the wrong way. I wish Rep. Geren was more professional about it instead of intimidating my staff.”

However, Rep. Geren said he simply removed the signs because they were in violation of rules from the State Preservation Board, which is responsible for making sure the Capitol grounds are maintained. He said, “Tearing them down is hardly the deal. If Stickland wants to act like a child, that’s fair, but I did not rip it down.”Propaganda Alert BS Alert

On March 9th, Texas Right to Life distributed the signs, a day before Planned Parenthood supporters were scheduled to visit the Capitol. In a Facebook post, Rep. Strickland said, “In honor of their visit, I put this sign up on my office door. Organizations that murder children are not welcome in my office.” And today Texas Right to Life tweeted that it was “sad that signs are being torn down.”

As LifeNews previously reported, the Texas Planned Parenthood abortion business has been having a rough couple of years. First, in 2013, they had to pay $4.23 million dollars to the state of Texas after they participated in a massive Medicaid fraud scheme. Then 14 of their 23 abortion facilities had to close down or stop doing abortions after an omnibus pro-life bill (HB 2) passed their legislature. And now, the Texas Legislature is working to take more of Planned Parenthood’s state funding under a base budget proposal that says money for a breast and cervical cancer screening program for women must first go to public entities that provide those types of health assessments.

formerfetus3

According to the Texas Tribune, Sen. Jane Nelson, the chief budget writer in the Senate, confirmed that the provision is intended to cut off funding to groups that also offer abortions. She said, “There are many members that feel very strongly that the facilities that receive that funding should not be facilities that are performing abortions, so the answer is: Don’t perform abortions and you get the money.”

Additionally, in January, over 80 House members in the Texas Legislature introduced the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act, which will revoke taxpayer funds from Planned Parenthood to ensure taxpayers are not financing the abortion industry.

One of the lead sponsors of the bill in the House, Diana Black, said, “Planned Parenthood and organizations like it that profit off the destruction of innocent life do not deserve one more dime from American taxpayers. I have been proud to lead the charge against the funding of the big-abortion industry since my first days as a state legislator, and I am honored to continue this fight by reintroducing the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act. This legislation would simply clarify the original intent and spirit of the law to ensure that Title X federal funded grants will no longer be awarded to ‘health care’ providers that fail to protect life by providing abortions.”

We Were Praying at an Abortion Clinic When, an Abortion Center Owner Came Out

by Natalie Brumfield | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com

Third of our generationThere are points in time when God intentionally collides your life and your prayers with the messy politics and unorganized chaos of the world.

For me, politics is just a thermometer for how our prayers are affecting our nation. I only pull out the thermometer so that I can pray with a target in sight and for exact precision. But then there are the God-collisions that warn His children and say, “Watch! Pray!”

My mom came in town from Jackson, Mississippi to spend a weekend with my husband and I. She wanted to pray with us during the Bound4LIFE Birmingham prayer siege at the downtown Planned Parenthood. I thought it was incredible that she would be coming the week that the closed center (since December) had opened back up. It’s so powerful to have a mother and daughter pray together for life and for the ending of abortion.

Mississippi Silent Siege

During our visit, we were talking about the final abortion center in Jackson, MS. Our family has a history of praying at that abortion center since I was a little girl. It’s a dream of ours to have our home state become abortion free. When I moved to Birmingham and began leading the Bound4LIFE Chapter, I found that the woman who owned the –now– former New Woman All Women abortion center was the same owner of the last Mississippi abortion center in Jackson. This is no coincidence; this is the work of an intentional God who collides our prayers with the politics we didn’t even know were there.

After the prayer siege, my mother wanted to see some of the local antique shops in Birmingham. Matt, my mom and I decided to go just five minutes away from where we prayed. We were walking down the sidewalk and my mom pointed at a white vehicle I immediately recognized. I didn’t even hear why my mom was pointing it out.  I just watched as the woman for whom I’ve prayed for years got into the vehicle. It was her.

Known in the news as the “abortion queen” for her many abortion centers across the South, the owner of the Jackson abortion center was standing before us. Her former abortion center in Birmingham shut down in 2012 after four years of prayer from Bound4LIFE Birmingham. I had wondered aloud minutes before on our ride there if she still lived in Birmingham since its closing. In shock, I grabbed my husband’s hand and in a casual, quiet tone informed him who we were passing.

I wondered immediately if God wanted me to go up and talk with her. She had another woman with her in the vehicle that looked a lot like her, too. Through rushed praying, I asked Him, “Why did you want me to see her? What do you want me to do?” I couldn’t understand why He had me run into her. All I could do was pray—and that is just what He wanted.

We talked all day about the odd run-in and discussed at length the craziness of my mom coming in town from Jackson, MS to pray with us, only to run into the Jackson, MS abortion center owner and former Birmingham, AL owner just after we prayed for life in our city and nation. There was no denying God was sounding an alarm and a warning somehow. I had peace that prayer was what He was wanting. That night I had a dream:

I was in an empty room with the “abortion queen” and the friend I saw with her that day. She stood before me and was trying to show her friend how to speak over me as if to command me. I opened my mouth and began praying above her words.

I didn’t have to try to pray loudly over her because my prayers were fuller and bolder in their power than her weedy words. Her expression was astonishment and she tried once more to speak over me with more force. Again, I prayed above her with even more clarity and fullness. I could feel extreme ease and peace as I prayed.

With this, she was dumbfounded. Like a little child she commented to her friend about the power she just saw and couldn’t comprehend it. Then the dream ended.

I awoke that Sunday morning knowing that I was truly praying in my dream. Jesus moved in power in my dream and showed me the victory thatNational death rate percentages had been won; that any “power” that comes against Him is feeble and weak. I was encouraged and kept praying throughout the day.

Last Tuesday evening, I received the news that the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals had ruled that the new Mississippi law (that would require physicians at the abortion center to obtain admitting privileges to a local hospital) had been struck down. A three judge panel, on a 2-1 vote, ruled Tuesday the law was unconstitutional because it would close the state’s only abortion center. Their argument is that it would impair Mississippi women’s “constitutional right to an abortion” even though they could obtain one at other abortion centers in neighboring states.

The hypocrisy of the safety precaution law being struck down on the basis that this abortion center is the last one in Mississippi is quite daunting. These are the pulls and tides of word-bending politics. “No matter the condition, care, or quality of the abortion center, just make sure that one exists…. that is good enough.” It’s sickening.

Mississippi Governor Bryant plans to appeal for a full 5th Circuit ruling instead of the partial court, which ruled against the law. This week, an Alabama judge ruled that the same safety precaution law was unconstitutional because it would place “restrictions” on a “woman’s right to obtain an abortion.” An even further stretch (if that is possible) from the MS ruling. Plans for an appeal are being made by Gov. Robert J. Bentley and Attorney General Luther Strange. Gov. Bentley who is a physician by trade condemned the ruling and called abortion “a fundamental assault on the sanctity of innocent human life.

In a detailed report on the 5th Circuit Court opinion in Jackson Women’s Health Organization v. Currier, the Wall Street Journal drew interesting conclusions: “Mississippi is one of 11 states that have passed admitting-privileges laws… Battles over the measures have landed in numerous federal courts, and some of the cases could be headed to the U.S. Supreme Court, legal experts said.”

Map of US - Admitting Privileges laws under debate

With this news, my heart was in distress. My former and my current home states had politically ruined a seed of hope for diminishing abortion in our nation within days of each other. Then God reminded me of the orchestrated occurrences of my mom coming to pray from Jackson, the running into the sole owner of Mississippi’s last abortion center, and the dream where I battled and won. Politics is a thermometer, but it’s not what Heaven sees. God’s power is above politics, above the language and rulings of this world. His power will have the final word.

Just as both Mississippi and Alabama governors will go to the higher court for an appeal, God is asking all of us to go before His Highest Court for an appeal to Heaven. He is sounding a warning alarm and calling us to partner with Him in prayer for the ending of abortion in MS, AL and the rest of the United States.

Mississippi Silent Siege - Prayer Group

Bound4LIFE will be focusing in prayer on Mississippi and Alabama through Saturday, August 23rd for this upcoming appeal. Please join us as we focus on these four prayer points:

  1. Pray that the hearts of our local judges, the 5th Circuit Court, and the Supreme Court justices hearts are turned so that Roe v. Wade is overturned and abortion is made illegal.

  2. Pray for the hearts of women who have conceived, that they realize the miracle of human life inside their bodies and discover the incredible value of their own life—as well as the life growing inside them.

  3. Pray that God’s love is seen and heard when sharing the message of LIFE in our cities and nation.

  4. Pray for Mississippi and Alabama, that they would be lights in the darkness showing the rest of the nation the testimony of what happens when our culture honors God’s gift of Life, protects our children, and loves women, men and families well.

547 Babies Saved From Abortion as 40 Days for Life Prayer Campaign Ends

http://www.lifenews.com/2014/04/14/547-babies-saved-from-abortion-as-40-days-for-life-prayer-campaign-ends/

by Shawn Carney | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 4/14/14 9:24 AM

Another 40 Days for Life campaign is now complete, and we’re still counting the blessings God has provided!

More of our local campaign leaders will be sending in their reports soon … but so far, we are aware of …

547 babies whose lives have been spared from abortion during this campaign!

And as always, those are only the ones we know about. Here are some of those stories.

——————————————————-
EL PASO, TEXAS
——————————————————-

40d17“Exciting news from the sidewalk!” said one of the El Paso volunteers. “A woman rejects abortion! “

When the woman arrived with her sister, there was a group of people praying on the sidewalk. One of the counselors talked to them, and provided information about positive options.

They continued on their way inside the abortion center … but came out soon after. “With a smile on her face,” the volunteer said, “the woman said she had changed her mind.” She was thinking about abortion because she feared her husband’s response to the pregnancy. But after talking with the counselors, she no longer felt afraid.

“We believe the prayers of everyone united helped give this woman the courage she needed to say yes to life,” the El Paso volunteer said. “Praise the Lord!”

——————————————————-
TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA
——————————————————-

A couple parked near the abortion facility in Tuscaloosa – close to the location where 40 Days for Life volunteers were praying. As they walked towards the building, vigil participants offered them information, but they didn’t take it.

They weren’t inside for long before they exited and said they couldn’t go through with the abortion. The woman said she couldn’t do it “because of all the young girls inside.”

The two were visibly shaken by what they had seen inside the abortion center. This time, they took the information the volunteers had offered.

——————————————————-
PENSACOLA, FLORIDA
——————————————————-

The Pensacola team asks for prayers for a woman who was abortion-minded … until the baby’s father convinced her not to go through with it.

The woman is still struggling, however. She has had a number of abortions in the past and feels she is incapable of mothering a child. She does, however, seem open to adoption … and there is a couple that stands ready and willing to adopt the baby.

“Please pray,” said one of the Pensacola volunteers, “that God will give them all the strength, love, mercy, and healing that they need to proceed with these adoption plans and provide a most beautiful future for this baby.”

——————————————————-
ZAGREB, CROATIA
——————————————————-

Lastly, a few words for this campaign in Croatian: 40 Dana Za Život — 40 Days for Life — and they’re on a billboard above a row of buildings in Zagreb.

“They are an impressive group,” said Robert Colquhoun, our international outreach director, who visited Zagreb recently.

Dan Miller, the local 40 Days for Life director in Milwaukee, Wisconsin saw this photo and said, “this says awesome in any language!”

I think we can say that about all of the 40 Days for Life volunteers. You’re awesome! May God bless you richly!

142 Babies Saved From Abortion So Far During 40 Days for Life Campaign

St. Patrick’s Day should start with good news – and today we have plenty! So far during this campaign, we are aware of …… 142 babies who, through your prayers and the Lord’s mercy, have been saved from abortion.

40d21Praise God!

Here are more stories of lives permanently changed on the sidewalks outside the abortion centers.

——————————————————-
TEMPE, ARIZONA
——————————————————-

We’ve heard much good news from Tempe.

When prayer volunteers asked two young women if they wanted to talk, their answer was, “Yes. We heard you say you offer free ultrasounds.” Lisa in Tempe said the girls had become frustrated, as Planned Parenthood was running three hours behind schedule.

After the one who was considering abortion received information and a gift bag, she told Lisa she was going to keep her baby, “and went to one of our local pregnancy centers for genuine help.”

A mother and daughter pulled up to a volunteer holding a sign that said, “Pregnant? We can help.” As the mother got out of the car, the volunteer offered pro-life resources. She held out her hand, took the information without a word, got back in the car and drove away.

Two groups of women who were both there with friends scheduled for abortions came over and talked about options for their friends. They received literature and called their friends inside to talk to them. Both women left without having an abortion.

Lisa said, “Your continued prayers and witness will bring Christ to those who have become lost because of ‘choice.’”

——————————————————-
CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA
——————————————————-

In Cedar Rapids, a woman showed up early for her appointment at Planned Parenthood. “She was not pregnant,” Jim said, “and was going there for some other type of appointment.”

She told volunteers that she had come about a year ago, planning to have an abortion. But the sight of the people praying made her decide against it. She now has a 4-month-old daughter and is very happy.

“Although we suspect there were many other saves in the past,” Jim said, “this was the first confirmed one in Cedar Rapids. It makes us feel like the cold weather we had last spring was well worth it!”

——————————————————-
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS
——————————————————-

Rita tells us there were two babies saved in Boston on one day. “Sidewalk counsellors were joined by a large group of people praying and singing hymns,” she said, “and many were holding 40 Days for Life signs.”

Volunteers rejoiced when a woman came out of Planned Parenthood and said, “Your prayers have been answered. I’m not going to do it.” And then it happened again!

I Am Afraid of This Indisputable Pro-Abortion Argument

Life News Banner

http://www.lifenews.com/2014/03/07/i-am-afraid-of-this-indisputable-pro-abortion-argument/

by Matt Walsh | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 3/7/14 4:19 PM

I took the bait. I couldn’t help but open an email with the subject line: “You’re afraid of this pro-choice argument”

Afraid? I’m afraid of a lot of things. Actually, five things: spiders, asteroids, ghosts, head lice, and malaria. But arguments? Especially pro-abortion arguments? Definitely not on the list.

I might be frustrated by them; annoyed, angered, even disturbed, but afraid? I don’t think so.

Here’s Rachel, trying to strike fear into my heart:

Dear Matt, ever since I first read your blog I knew you were a cowardly fake. It wasn’t until I started reading some of your anti-choice articles that my suspicions were truly confirmed. You spend a lot of time picking the low hanging fruit. You attack the weakest abortion rights arguments while ignoring the glaring weaknesses in your own position.

If you had the guts or the brains you’d try to respond to the most important abortion rights argument… bodily autonomy or bodily integrity. This means that we have the final jurisdiction over our own bodies. Nobody can claim a right to our body that goes above our own right. Nobody can use our bodies without consent. We cannot be forced to donate organs or blood to someone else. A fetus must survive on a woman’s body so the woman has a right to withdrawal her consent and her body at any time.

prolifeimage46This is the pro-choice argument that no anti-choice fanatic… especially one as stubborn and simpleminded as you… could ever possibly dispute. If you still don’t understand, try to imagine this hypothetical…

Imagine that you wake up one morning in a hospital bed. In the bed next to you is a famous singer. He is unconscious and all of these tubes are connected from him to you. A doctor comes in and explains that the singer became sick and you are the only person with the right blood type to match his. They need you to remain hooked up to him until he recovers… they tell you it should only take nine months. Until then, he needs to use all of your organs… your kidneys, liver, lungs, everything… just to survive. If you unplug yourself, he will die. So do you think you are obligated to stay plugged in? Does he have a right to live off of you like this? Should you be FORCED to stay connected to him?

That’s what situation the pregnant woman is in. Instead of harping on all of these irrelevant issues, I wish you’d be brave enough to address it from this angle. It is immoral to require a woman to sustain a fetus and it is moral for a woman to make a decision with her body based on what is right for her. How can you argue against this?

But I guess your blog is more about preaching to the choir than actually being intelligent and bold in your writing. What a shame.

-Rachel

Here’s my answer:

Dear Rachel,

You’re right. You win. I have no response. I can’t think of any reason why you’re wrong about any of the points you raised.

Well, I can’t think of any reason — except for, like, ten reasons. So I’ll start with five reasons why that hypothetical is flawed, and move on to five additional reasons why your overall argument is flawed.

Here we go:

baby, womb, pregnant, woman1. Your analogy is flawed because it presupposes that the relationship between mother and child is no more significant, and carries with it no more responsibility, than the relationship between a person and some random stranger in a hospital bed.

This is absurd. If we’re trying to make this hypothetical as close to pregnancy as possible, shouldn’t the sick singer (or violinist, according to the original iteration of this hypothetical) at least be your child? Your argument doesn’t work because the fact that your child is your child, and not some strange adult from across town, is precisely the point. Hidden cleverly in this hypothetical is the insinuation that one cannot agree that an unborn child has a right to his mother’s body, without agreeing that anyone in the entire world, in any context, for any reason, at any point, for any period of time, has a right to a woman’s body.

Nice try, Rachel.

Just because a mother is expected to be a mother doesn’t mean she’s also expected to be a slave, a prostitute, and a forced organ donor to talented musical artists. Indeed, the extent of our responsibility to a person hinges in many ways on our relationship to them. You would, I assume, agree that you have a responsibility to your born children, wouldn’t you? And your responsibility to them extends far beyond your responsibility to your neighbor, or your plumber, or your trash collector, doesn’t it? The relationship matters. Your hypothetical fails because it pretends that relationships are irrelevant.

2. Your analogy is flawed because it leaves out an important detail: how did the singer become ill in the first place?

Aside from cases of rape, a child is only conceived because two people intentionally committed a particular act which has, literally billions of times, resulted in the conception of a human life.

This singer came down with a terrible sickness. You might feel pity for him, but you didn’t cause him to be sick. You didn’t put him in this state. You had absolutely nothing to do with it. The same cannot be said when a child is conceived.

3. Your analogy is flawed because, when framed properly, it doesn’t strengthen your moral position — it defeats it.

The hypothetical should be this: your own child becomes very sick because of something you did. He needs a blood transfusion and you are the only match. Would you refuse to give him your blood because it infringes on your bodily autonomy? Could this be morally justified? You put your kid in the hospital and now you will choose to watch him die because he ‘doesn’t have a right to your blood.’ THIS scenario would be the closest to abortion. And, if you are consistent in your affinity for ‘bodily autonomy,’ you could not criticize parents who’d rather let their child die than be inconvenienced by a blood transfusion.

4. But, no matter how you frame the hypothetical, it is still flawed because it ignores one crucial thing: natural order.

An unborn child is exactly where he is supposed to be. He couldn’t possibly be anywhere else. This is the fundamental difference between two people hooked up to machines on a hospital bed, and a ‘fetus’ connected to his mother insider her womb. The former represents unnatural and extraordinary measures, while the latter represents something natural and ordinary. The unborn child is where Nature (or God, as I call Him) intends it to be.

The unborn child is not, in any scientific or medical sense, an intruder or a parasite. These words have meanings, and unborn babies do not fit the bill. They are where they are supposed to be. They are where they belong. A fish belongs in water, just as an unborn child belongs in his mother’s womb.

5. Beyond all of these points, the analogy is flawed because abortion is not the same as ‘unplugging’ a person from medical equipment.

It might be quite sanitary and pleasant to refer to abortion as a woman ‘withdrawing support’ from her child, but the procedure goes beyond this. During a ‘termination,’ the baby is actively killed. It is crushed, dismembered, poisoned, or torn apart. It is killed. It is actively, actually, purposefully, intentionally killed.

In fact, even in the original hypothetical — where you’re hooked up to a singer in a hospital bed — while it would be acceptable to unplug yourself, it would NOT be morally or legally permissible to shoot the poor guy in the head. A person’s physical reliance on you does not give you the moral (or legal, usually) right to murder them. ‘Withdrawing support’ is precisely what an abortion isn’t. If it was, then the baby would be delivered and left to die in the corner of the room. Of course, this is how some abortionists conduct business, but it’s illegal. If they’re caught, they go to jail.

6. But the bodily autonomy argument is flawed in ways that go beyond that utterly fallacious and misleading hypothetical. It’s flawed because nobody is crazy enough to consistently apply it to pregnant women.

According to bodily autonomy, a mother could not be judged harshly for smoking, drinking, doing coke, and going skydiving (hopefully not all in the same day) while 6 months pregnant. If you really believe that a woman’s body is autonomous — that she has absolute jurisdiction over it — then you must defend a mother who does things that could seriously harm her unborn child, even if she hasn’t chosen to abort it. This is not a slippery slope argument; this is a reasonable and inevitable application of your principle.

20 week old unborn child - when many states still allow abortion

20 week old unborn child – when many states still allow abortion

7. The bodily autonomy argument is flawed because it requires you to support abortion at every stage of development.

I’m throwing this in here because most pro-aborts will not (vocally) defend abortion at 8 or 9 months. But — if bodily autonomy is your claim — you must. Is a woman’s body less autonomous when she’s been pregnant for 35 weeks? There is no way around it: bodily autonomy means that it is moral to kill a fully formed baby, at seven months, or eight months, or nine months.

8. The bodily autonomy argument is flawed because you can’t limit it to pregnant women.

You say that our bodies cannot be ‘used’ without our ‘consent.’ Why should this apply only to pregnancy and organ donations? Children, at any age, create profound demands on their parents’ bodies. Whether it’s waking up in the middle of the night for the crying baby, working long hours to pay for their food and clothing, carrying them around when they cannot walk, staying home when you’d like to go out, going out (to bring them to the doctor, or school, or soccer practice) when you’d like to stay in, etc, etc, etc, and so forth. An argument for absolute bodily autonomy means that it can’t be illegal, or considered immoral, for a parent to decline to do any of these things, so long as their decision was made in the name of bodily autonomy.

9. The bodily autonomy argument is flawed because it necessarily justifies things like public masturbation.

If I can ‘do what I want with my body,’ then it becomes very difficult to launch a salient moral or legal attack against a man who chooses to sit in a playground in front of children and pleasure his own body.

10. Finally, the bodily autonomy argument is flawed because our bodies are not autonomous.

I’m often accused of oversimplifying, but I’ve never oversimplified to the extent of you bodily autonomy proponents. Once we’ve considered every complexity and nuance, we can rightly say that our bodies are autonomous in some ways, and in some circumstances, but not in others. We cannot say that they are absolutely autonomous, and I find it hard to believe that anyone truly thinks that.

Any claim or responsibility placed on me, automatically includes a claim and responsibility on my body. Everything I do involves my body. I am my body. CS Lewis would say that I am my soul and I have a body. I agree with him, but for our purposes in this discussion, leaving souls and spirits aside, we are our bodies. Whether we are expected to pay taxes or drive the speed limit or provide a safe and sanitary home for our children, we are using our bodies to meet these expectations. We experience and participate in life with our bodies. Absolute bodily autonomy is inexorably linked with personal autonomy. If my body is autonomous, my person must be autonomous, and if my person is autonomous, then my very existence is autonomous, and if my very existence is autonomous, then it is simply unacceptable and (by your logic) immoral for anyone to expect me to do anything for anyone at any point for any reason.

If you concede that we ought to be expected or even required to do certain things, then you are placing limits on our bodily autonomy. If you place limits on our bodily autonomy, then you are admitting that limits can be placed on our bodily autonomy. If you are admitting that limits can be placed on our bodily autonomy, then you must consider whether abortion falls within or outside of those limits. And here’s the rub: if you contend that abortion falls within the limits on bodily autonomy, you must justify that belief beyond simply reasserting our right to bodily autonomy.

Personally, I think that abortion goes well beyond the limits on bodily autonomy, for all of the reasons I’ve previously stipulated.

There’s your answer, Rachel.

But, except for the ten reasons why you’re wrong, you’re right on the money.

And, except for the ten answers I’ve provided, I have no answers for you.

I guess you win.

Thanks for writing.

Ethnic cleansing in NYC: Almost 50% of 2012 abortions were black

black-babyHorrific, horrific, horrific. According to the recently released Summary of Vital Statistics from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, ethnic cleansing is apparently occurring in the Big Apple.

In New York City, there were 56,000 black pregnancies in 2012. Of that total, 31,000 were aborted. That figure represents almost 50 percent of all abortions in New York City, despite the fact blacks represent less than 15 percent of the population. Read the report here.

Margaret Sanger’s grand plan for eugenics is a grand success in New York. It is progressives who fight most passionately for the policies and “freedoms” to allow this ethnic cleansing to occur. And conservatives are supposed to be the racist ones?

The Girl Scouts Are Caught Between Abortionists and People Of Virtue

Girl Scouts Threaten Pro-life Groups

The Girl Scouts are getting vindictive.

Angered over the conservative backlash to the Girl Scouts partnerships with Planned Parenthood and other abortion service groups, the Girl Scouts have begun threatening pro-life groups.

When conservatives first began learning of the Girl Scouts connections with Planned Parenthood it caused quite a controversy – as thousands of pro-life families recreate with the Girl Scouts. When the Girl Scouts made it clear that they would not only continue their partnership with abortionists but also celebrate them, it became clear that pro-life families would have to part ways with the organization.

Ryan Bomberger of the Radiance Foundation, who recently gave the keynote address at the March for Life Rose Dinner in Washington, D.C., is a champion for adoption over abortion.

“The Girl Scouts still proclaim to be honest and courageous, while denying their continual collaboration with the nation’s largest and undeniably dishonest abortion chain,” Bomberger told Breitbart News. “Abortion doesn’t make the world a better place, unless you agree with the deeply racist and elitist pseudoscience of eugenics – the foundation of Planned Parenthood.”

Eric Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League commented to Breitbart News, “As the father of six girls, I’m extremely disappointed by the Girl Scouts’ increasing collaboration with Planned Parenthood, an organization that aborts over 150,000 unborn baby girls every year.”

Similarly, Jim Sedlak of the American Life League told Breitbart News, “Through their continued support of the Culture of Death, the Girl Scouts have betrayed their heritage and their future. There is nobody who should purchase Girl Scout cookies to fund this group.”

girlscoutsThis collective boycott and the damage it’s done to the Girl Scouts’ bottom line has led the Girl Scouts to move against conservative groups supporting the boycott.

LifeNews editor Steve Ertelt announced Monday that he had received a letter threatening legal action. In it, Girl Scout executive Brian Crawford complained about “articles that outline alleged ties to Planned Parenthood” and that “GSUSA has an obligation to protect the Girl Scout name.” Crawford insisted, “Girl Scouts of the USA does not have a partnership or any relationship with Planned Parenthood and does not intend to initiate one.” He demanded that LifeNews cease using the Girl Scout logo.

 Steve Ertelt told Breitbart News:

The Girl Scouts are clearly threatened by LifeNews’ reporting on their multiple links to Planned Parenthood, their hiring of abortion activists to key positions, and their promotion of abortion advocates like Wendy Davis. Their letter is a not-so-veiled intimidation tactic designed to get LifeNews to stop our reporting and to get pro-life groups to stop boycotting them.

It’s time for us to take a stand against the Girl Scouts, Planned Parenthood, and their attempt to intimidate pro-life organizations.

Sex and Lies in Current TN School Textbooks

Go to TextbookAdvocates.com for this information.

The current textbooks being used in public schools today, that your children are reading, memorizing and being tested on, are inaccurate, revisionist, anti-American, racist, climate change propaganda based on fake science, anti-Christian, anti-Semitic, pro-Islam, Marxist, globalist, pro-Socialism/Communism, pro-homosexuality, pro-abortion, and sexually explicit. Below is a list of examples and… who wrote the Pearson Publishing textbooks, that TN schools are now using. (Related story, as of Dec. 2013, Pearson Foundation fined millions for violating laws. Story here.)

During August of 2013, scores of TN volunteers reviewed the 72 books on the State textbook list – 39% were declared acceptable for TN classrooms, 12% need major revisions to meet acceptable standards, many more need minor fixes.

Conclusion: “There is a mind-numbing degree of indoctrination (def: teach a person or group to accept a set of beliefs uncritically) and (inappropriate sexual references/diagrams) found in the proposed textbooks.”

Here is a book called “It’s Perfectly Normal” on the 4th grade reading list. Below are photos I took from the book that a teacher of 30 years shared with me. Parents are not aware that this book is on the approved reading list for 4th grade classrooms.

EXAMPLE OF TEXTBOOK LIES and PROPAGANDA:

1. According to McGraw Hill, 9-12 AP, “American Democracy Now”) America is a Democracy not a Constitutional Republic.

Truth: Mrs. Eliza Powell asked Ben Franklin in 1787, as he left the Constitutional Convention, “What have you given us?” He replied, ”A Republic if you can keep it.” From federal to local governments, every decision made by lawmakers must comply with our Constitution. Not so with a democracy. (A lynch mob is a democracy). In a democracy, whatever the majority decides the minority must endure. Our constitution is designed to protect the minority and the individual. There is not a full explanation of the Constitution in this textbook, but a lot of art work saying we are a Democracy.

2. According to Pearson Education 9-12,”What Should Governments Do?” The Purpose of Government is:

  • “Maintain a national defense,”
    • Truth: yes, that’s in the Constitution,
  • “Provide public goods and services”
    • Truth: uh, that’s limited in the Constitution,
  • “Preserve order…when people protest in large numbers government may resort to extreme measures to restore order.”
    • Truth: Not constitutional until laws are broken
  • “Socialize the Young.”
    • Truth: ??!!!! This is the beginning of State Controlled Children i.e. Castro, Hitler – it’s completely unconstitutional. Who do you want “socializing” your child?
  • “Collect Taxes.”
    • Truth: They do that too well!

3. According to MacGruder’s American Government and Civics, Pearson Ed. 9-12, “What is Government?” The Government is not “by the people, of the people, and for the people,” but “the institution through which a society makes and enforces its public policies. Government is made up of those people who exercise it’s powers, all those who have authority and control over people.” (What?! The textbook continues,) “The public policies of a government are, inshore, all of those things a government decides to do….the list of public policy issues handled by government is nearly endless.”

(That’s an oligarchy, not America!)

4. According to MacGruder’s American Government and Civics, Pearson Ed. 9-12, “the Soviet Union controlled Eastern Europe for four decades. But by the late 1980s the Soviet Union had severe economic problems and a new leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, was making reforms…By 1989 Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland and Romania ended Communist control of their governments and held free elections…”

The truth that was omitted is that there were 56 to 62 million “unnatural deaths” for the USSR overall, with 34 to 49 million under Stalin, Dyadkin, I.G. (Demograficheskaya statistic neyestestvennoy smertnosti v SSSR 1918-1956). Also omitted is that at the war’s end, the Soviet Union adopted a “plunder policy” of physically transporting and relocating east European industrial assets to the Soviet Union. Also omitted is the fact that no experiments in communism/socialism have ever succeeded. China is offered up as an example of success but Mao was responsible for over 70 million deaths. (Historians Jung Chang and Jon Halliday)

5. According to “American Government and Politics Today” Houghton, Miffli, Harcourt, 9-12, “…African Americans…feel a sense of injustice…and this feeling is often not apparent to, or appreciated by, the majority of white America.” What?! Uh, that sounds racist against white people…

According to the above textbook, “The president addressed racial profiling in ways no previous president could when one of the nation’s pre-eminent scholars was arrested…in his own home…

Truth: Police were doing their job protecting a home that appeared to be in the process of a burglary. President Obama said on National TV, “the police acted stupidly.”

6. According to “Psychology in Everday Life” Bedford, Freeman and Worth, “Under the guise of preventing voter fraud, a number of states have adopted laws likely to suppress the vote. Nine states now require government issued photo identification.”

Truth: That first sentence reveals the author’s bias. Fact: An illegal vote cancels your vote. That equals the disenfranchisement of the legal voter. A photo ID is required to board a plane, cash checks, rent anything, obtain a library card, join the YMCA, etc.

7. According to “American Government and Civics” Macgruders Page 758 says, “The number of families on welfare has plunged since the mid-1900s”

Truth: There was a 32% increase in welfare spending from 2009 to 2012 alone! Congressional Research Service

8. According to above textbook, page 10, “But what is justice?” The term is difficult to define for justice is a concept, an idea, an invention of the human mind. Like other concepts such as truth, liberty, fairness and justice means what people want it to mean.”

Truth: (that last ‘and’ is grammatically incorrect but in the quote) Moral virtues are natural law. The natural law our founding fathers spoke of. In a civilized world, … “It is the doctrine of objective value, the belief that certain attitudes are really true, others really false…” C.S. Lewis from The Abolition of Man.

Moral virtues must be learned, therefore they must be taught. With no 10 Commandments, and the teaching of secular humanism, there are no absolutes, therefore, any behavior is permissible.

9. According to Ancient World History, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, “JESUS’ DEATH Jesus’ growing popularity concerned Roman leaders…The Roman governor Pontius Pilate accused Jesus of defying the Authority of Rome. Pilate arrested Jesus and sentenced him to be crucified.”

Truth: John 19:4 Pilate said, “I find no basis for a charge against him – You take him and crucify him, as for me I find no basis for a charge against him…From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free…”

Guess who wrote these biased Pearson textbooks? “Pearson hired Shabbir Mansuri, and Susan Douglass (a convert to Islam) to review and consult on the material being written for textbooks. One problem is that both of these individuals are associated with the Council for Islamic Education, a front for the Muslim Brotherhood in America.” Story here.

Talk about bias! Check this out. From a textbook, authored by Karen K. Kirst-Ashman, that was allegedly assigned reading for a University of South Carolina three-credit course titled, “Introduction to Social Work Profession and Social Welfare.”

This viral video of a living baby still in the amniotic sac is stunning…and utterly heartbreaking

It’s been shared nearly 200,000 times on Facebook in the past few weeks.

But though I’ve seen the video posted on numerous friends pages, I never clicked on it until today.

I thought it was a graphic video of a late-term abortion. I’ve seen those before, and the images are seared in my brain. I don’t need to see them again.

But this is something much more incredible…but just as heartbreaking.

Watch it here:

Baby

If you know the source of the video, leave a comment letting me know. While some people have suggested that the baby was the victim of a late-term abortion, others have said that it was the result of a miscarriage, while there is even a rumor posted on Youtube that he was removed from his mother after she died in a car accident. Either way, there is a story behind this video that should be told.

Sadly, judging by the video, the baby is almost certainly too young to survive, meaning that what we see is likely most of the duration of his short life outside of his mother’s womb.

But his life was not in vain. The video of his short life is spreading like wildfire, provoking countless people to question the lie that the unborn child is not fully human. If that baby is not a human being, who is?

That anybody still believes the “blob of tissue” lie in this day and age is incredible. That they do is only made possible thanks to the deliberate and careful deceptions spread by the abortion lobby.

The man who posted the video, Jim Anderson, sums it up when he writes simply, “Still support abortion anyone?”

Happy Birthday Greetings? Really???????

Democratic Party Chair Wishes Roe v. Wade a “Happy Birthday”

A very sad phenomenon exists today, which is that the left conflates ‘women’s rights’ with killing unborn children in the womb.  The two are in fact mutually exclusive, because there are no other rights without the right to life. That is true for unborn baby girls and unborn baby boys.

wassermanschulzHas she stopped to think of the 55 million American babies who were aborted since Roe v. Wade, who will never be able to celebrate their birthday?

Abortion does nothing to advance the rights of women; it hurts them.  The 7.046 billion people on Earth were all born of women.  Debbie was one of them.

If Debbie really cared about women, she would stop advocating murdering them in the womb in their earliest stages of development. There are better, healthier, more American ways to advance the rights of women — and men (sorry, liberals, men are people too, with rights!) — and children, and families.

And one of those options is adoption, a word liberals seem to fear.  Grazie Pozo Christie is a Cuban-American medical doctor who is also an adoptive mother.  In an op-ed explaining her transition to joys and truth of being pro-life she states:

I looked around our country and realized that our culture had erected a temple to self-realization and sexual liberation, and therefore abortion has to be available, because unwanted children will continue to be conceived, no matter how many “free” contraceptives are provided.

Nothing restricts personal liberty like a pregnancy and parenthood. As a doctor I can tell you that no scientist questions the fact that a zygote, embryo, fetus and infant are all human beings in different stages of development. (emphasis added) Those who believe in unrestricted abortion license do not acknowledge the conflicting right of the little human being, who might be unwanted, but is just as valuable and beautiful as a wanted child.

The left does not respect the right to life, our most fundamental right.  Instead, they manufacture artificial rights like the “right” of a woman to kill her unborn child.  That’s why, as pro-life conservatives, we must take a bold stand and speak for the unborn, whose voices cannot yet be heard.

Obama Calls on Nation to Recommit to Abortion

President Obama reflected on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade by encouraging Americans to recommit to the “guiding principles” of the 1973 Supreme Court decision.

           According to Obama:

Every woman should be able to make her own choices about her body and her health.  We reaffirm our steadfast commitment to protecting a woman’s access to safe, affordable health care and her constitutional right to privacy, including the right to reproductive freedom.  And we resolve to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies, support maternal and child health, and continue to build safe and healthy communities for all our children.  Because this is a country where everyone deserves the same freedom and opportunities to fulfill their dreams.

Pro-life support has actually increased over the last several years, according to Gallup:

While Obama touts abortion as a way to protect women’s freedoms, not all women appreciate trivializing the life they harbor inside of them. Nicole Peck stated at the March for Life rally that her abortion stripped her of not only her money and her baby, but also her self-respect.

With the Obamacare abortion pill mandate still sparking lawsuits and religious freedom controversies, the administration will undoubtedly persist in their attempt to sell abortion as a basic right

If a Man Doesn’t Want to be a Father, He’s a Deadbeat; A Woman is Just Pro-Choice

When arguing about abortion, I’ve seen a lot of people claim “sex isn’t a contract.” Other variations of this idea include:

  • Consent to A doesn’t mean consent to B (that is, consent to sex doesn’t mean consent to reproduction).
  • You clearly don’t consent to reproduce if you use birth control.
  • Sex is not a crime and shouldn’t be punished / Rights cannot be restricted unless there is a crime.
The problem is, when it comes to reproduction, these arguments only apply to women.
If a man gets a woman pregnant–be it his wife, girlfriend, affair, or one night stand–he is legally bound to provide support for that child. In other words, because the man participated in the child’s conception (because the man had sex), his rights are altered. It doesn’t matter if the man was only consenting to sex, and not to reproduction. It doesn’t matter if he used birth control. It doesn’t matter that sex isn’t a crime. He fathered the kid, so the law considers him responsible for the kid.
secularprolife2And the law takes a pretty hard line on the subject. Courts can require a father to pay child support based not just on what he earns, but on what courts believe he has the ability to earn. Child support obligations remain even if a father goes to prison, or declares bankruptcy. Even if he wants to terminate his parental rights (and therefore his parental responsibilities), the courts usually won’t allow it unless there is another adult prepared to adopt the child and take over that responsibility. And there are many methods for enforcing child support. A man’s tax refunds can be intercepted, his property seized, business or occupational license suspended, and in some states his driver’s license can be revoked. If he still fails to make payment, he can be held in contempt and given jail time.
In short, if a man has sex he runs the risk of being (rather tightly) legally bound to any new life he creates. In the essay “Abortion and Fathers’ Rights“, author Stephen D. Hales summarizes the situation:
“…the father, having participated in conception, cannot escape the future duties he will have toward the child. The father can decide that he cannot afford another child, that he is not psychologically prepared to be a parent, that a child would hinder the lifestyle he wishes to pursue, and so on, to no avail.”
Sound sad? If a man is forced to pay child support, that could mean serious emotional, psychological, financial, and social repercussions for him. So why do we have child support laws? Is it because we hate sex, and want to punish people for having sex?
No, of course not. And interestingly, you rarely see anyone even suggest as much. No, it’s clear to most people that we have child support laws in order to, you know, support children. Child support laws aren’t enforced to punish men for having sex—they’re enforced because it’s best for the child. In the same way, abortion shouldn’t be outlawed to punish women for having sex—it should be outlawed to protect fetal life. In both cases, it’s not about punishment, it’s about protection.
And that’s as it should be.
I’d love to live in a world in which there are no unplanned pregnancies and no unintentional parents. I think people should have control over whether they become parents, in the sense that people should have control over whether they get pregnant or get someone pregnant. That’s why I support comprehensive sex education: I want people to understand their own fertility and, if they do choose to have sex, I want them to understand how they can best prevent pregnancy while being sexually active.
However, once pregnancy has happened, once there’s already a new human organism in the picture, it changes everything. I think the people whose actions created that new life should be responsible for its protection.
Of course, many people disagree. Abortion rights advocates place reproductive freedom over protecting the lives we create, at least when it comes to women and pregnancy. How would this mentality look if they also applied it to men and child support? Hales has an idea:
“A man has the moral right to decide not to become a father (in the social, nonbiological sense) during the time that the woman he has impregnated may permissibly abort. He can make a unilateral decision whether to refuse fatherhood, and is not morally obliged to consult with the mother or any other person before reaching a decision. Moreover, neither the mother nor any other person can veto or override a man’s decision about becoming a father. He has first and last say about what he does with his life in this regard.”

(And if we’re being really consistent, he doesn’t have to inform the woman he impregnated, or anyone else, about his decision to refuse fatherhood.)

It seems to me that consistency requires abortion rights advocates to argue for the man’s right to choose as well as the woman’s: the pro-choice mentality means that, as women can “walk away” from their pregnancies, men should be able to walk away from the women they have impregnated.

Not very uplifting, is it?

Or we could strive for a different kind of consistency–the kind that holds both men and women to a higher standard. This is why I’m for child support laws, and this is why I’m against abortion.
