Must Everything — Everything? — Be Politicized Nowadays??

By / 28 February 2014

When, exactly, did every ridiculous little aspect of our lives become a “political” issue?

I can’t be the only  one who remembers a time when the government didn’t care if I wore a bike helmet, or ate a bag of chips.  In fact, we had a lot of latitude before political activism came and spoiled the fun.

There was a time when you could order a chicken dinner, without it being a political statement, or when pro sports were just interested in how well you played the game.

There was a time when a lemonade stand could be a kid’s first business venture, without some bureaucratic rules-lawyer killing that dream with zoning laws.

Maybe you can remember when a scout’s biggest worry was poison ivy, not political indoctrination. That was back before boy scouts (Canada) became co-ed and girl scouts (USA) supported Planned Parenthood.

Do you remember a time when useful products weren’t outlawed on the basis of contested health studies — BPA, for instance?

Do you remember a time when we weren’t drowning in fine print and waivers?  A time when people could tell a joke — even an off-colour one — without offending someone?  Did people just have a better sense of humor back then?  Were they less uptight?

Have we really come to a place where a 26 year old gold medallist with a wife and kid has an “alternative lifestyle”?

It wasn’t that long ago when some feared religious people holding government positions, because it was alleged that they “wanted to control everything”.  The worry was that they would “cram the Bible down our throats”, and curtail everyone’s freedoms.  They would meddle in people’s lives where they had no business doing so.

People obviously believed the hype.  Those with known religious convictions (unless decidedly “liberal”) were increasingly edged out of influential positions.

Whatever the underlying causes, the paradigm shift has taken place, and people hostile to the earlier conservative and/or religious convictions have taken the reigns.

What was that accusation, again?  Oh, yes.  “If you let those crazy Christians into government, they’ll create a Theocracy!”

This alleged Theocracy would be a Bad Thing, as the story goes, because they would insist on controlling every detail of your personal life.  They would (gasp!) moralize, and finger-wag!  Imagine the horror!

In one sphere of society after another, agents hostile to traditional values have used tried-and-true tactics to gain an upper hand.

What were their strategies?  Surely you’ve seen them in action:

Don’t try to win the argument, it’s better to just discredit the person you’re arguing with, and win by default…  Emotional appeal, sarcasm, and innuendo are always better than honest debate…  Have a TV panel of three guests dog-pile on one token conservative, so their view seems foolish and minority… Shout them down… Call them fascists…  Claim religious convictions invalidate their argument… Play the victim card! Don’t worry about “playing fair”… Tactics don’t matter so long as you win.

But then came the bait-and-switch. Our “liberators” started to dictate things — lots of things.  The meddling and scheming they had long accused others of became their primary means of remaking the world in their image.

Every time these guys raise an issue, they dress it in political clothing.  Why?  Because political problems will always require a political solution.

Observe: In 1969, Canadian sodomy laws were stuck down on the grounds that (and I quote) “There’s no place for the State in the bedrooms of the nation.”  Since nobody was actually enforcing those laws anyway, that seemed a reasonable response. Fast forward 40 some-odd years, to when foreign policy is being decided based on American opinion of ANOTHER nation’s domestic policies concerning what may or may not happen in the bedrooms of THOSE nations.

See what just happened?  See how quickly we went from “don’t force your values on me” to demanding that other countries comply to values they do not hold?  Just a little bit hypocritical, hmmm?  Their own buzzword for such action is “Imperialistic”.

It isn’t just sex, either.  Every issue is potentially political. From food labeling and health care to leisure pursuits, education, and it extends over a whole range of various products and services.  It goes right down to our supposed freedom of speech, whether on the sports field (NFL) or even what language your company’s Facebook page can be written in.

Once an issue is made political, you have adequate pretext for two things.

First, you can shut down most opposition with the convenient — albeit inaccurate — “separation of Church and State” mantra.  (This allows the next step to proceed unopposed.)

Next, they claim that this “political” issue will require a political solution.

(Everything is political for these guys.  Politics IS their religion, and it’s a religion that will tolerate no rivals.)

This means legislation, control, bigger government, and ultimately, forced compliance for their version of the Utopian Dream.

Curiously, however, this Utopia is always “just over that next hill”.  You know, it’s the hill where their next rival is making a stand.

There will always be a scapegoat. There will always be a victim.  It’s part of the formula they use. Then, once the dust settles, there will always, ALWAYS, be that much more power concentrated in the hands of those who crave it most.

You know those freedoms conservatives and Christians keep defending?

You don’t really need those, they’ll only slow down the “progress”.

Forward, Comrade! Forward!

ATF Agents Lose Their Government Issued Guns, Kids Find Them

Katie PavlichKatie Pavlich | Feb 27, 2014

I am continually amazed how many of the very agents in charge of enforcing America’s gun laws at the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms are completely reckless with guns. Further, it’s incredible how good they are at losing guns as a result of irresponsible or careless behavior. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is out with a new report showing ATF agents lost dozens of their loaded government issued handguns, one of which was found by children (paging Diane Sawyer at ABC News):

ATF agents have lost track of dozens of government-issued guns, after stashing them under the front seats in their cars, in glove compartments or simply leaving them on top of their vehicles and driving away, according to internal reports from the past five years obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Agents left their guns behind in bathroom stalls, at a hospital, outside a movie theater and on a plane, according to the records, obtained Tuesday by the news organization under the federal Freedom of Information Act.

In December 2009, two 6-year-old boys spotted an agent’s loaded ATF Smith & Wesson .357 on a storm sewer grate in Bettendorf, Iowa. The agent lived nearby and later said he couldn’t find his gun for days but didn’t bother reporting it — until it hit the local newspaper.

In Los Angeles in 2011, an agent went out to a bar drinking with other agents and friends, reportedly consuming four alcoholic beverages. The next morning he woke up and realized his ATF-issued Glock was gone. It was not found.

Unreal. A loaded handgun spotted by kids thanks to careless placement? Drinking while carrying a firearm in a restaurant establishment? That’s illegal. In fact, carrying a gun into a bar is illegal in most states, including California. Oh and what’s this? It wasn’t just handguns that were lost or stolen but long guns too? Terrific.

Most of the lost weapons were handguns, but there also were at least two assault rifles stolen. Typically the reports do not indicate what happened to the unrecovered guns. However, in a November 2008 incident, the gun may have wound up in Mexico, according to the report.

Last year the Journal Sentinel found ATF had lost a fully-automatic machine gun on the streets of Milwaukee. In early 2011, shortly after Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed, we found out the Bureau allowed more than 2500 firearms to be trafficked from the United States and into Mexico for use by brutal Mexican cartels. How do these incidents keep happening? Because there is never any real accountability or consequences for these actions, so they continue.

At the end of 2013, the Obama administration announced new goals for legislation requiring lost or stolen guns to be reported. They should start with ATF. It is completely asinine that the very same agency responsible for  enforcing gun laws is full of agents constantly breaking those laws and  losing firearms

Levin Calls on Tea Party to Fight Tyranny in USA

by Tony Lee  27 Feb 2014, 11:25 AM PDT

Keynoting an event honoring the five-year anniversary of the Tea Party on Thursday, conservative scholar and talk radio host Mark Levin said that the Tea Party movement is the only thing standing between what is left of the country’s republic and the tyranny of runaway government.

Levin said the government that is supposed to serve the people is “devouring” us, while the Constitution’s firewalls are being breached by a lawless president, a feckless Congress, and an all-powerful Supreme Court.

He said it was an honor to speak in front of the Tea Party and thanked those in the movement for having the “spirit and enthusiasm of the founding fathers” and not being afraid to insist “on the federal government’s compliance with the constitution’s limits.”

Levin said that for this, the Tea Party is “smeared and attacked by the ruling class, Democrats and Republicans alike,” in addition to the media and “countless others who are dragging the nation into the abyss.”

Levin said that, under this assault, it is understandable for those fighting for liberty to want to live quiet lives with family and friends and wonder “if it is worth it” and “if it will be able to reverse course.” But he said that he also knew “you are Americans. You cannot be idle. And you will not be silent while a relative handful of self-aggrandizing masterminds seek to lord over you and your fellow citizens.”

“You will not allow your country to fail,” Levin declared.

Levin said that those in George Washington’s Continental Army, before they crossed the Delaware, read Thomas Paine, whom President Ronald Reagan always read and quoted on the stump and to his advisers.

Levin quoted from Paine’s The American Crisis about these being the “times that try men’s soul” and “the harder the conflict the more glorious the triumph. Triumph we must and triumph we will.”

He emphasized that Reagan was an outsider who was not a part of the establishment and who had the “courage to stand up and be counted.” And like today’s Tea Party, Reagan was blasted by George Will, Nelson Rockefeller – who Levin quipped runs today’s Republican party – and the Wall Street Journal. Levin read their disparaging attacks on Reagan before he went on to win two landslide victories and defeat the Soviet Union.

Levin, who campaigned and worked for Reagan, said that Reagan would have stood before the Tea Party and thanked them for all that they have done. He said Reagan would have been “enormously proud” of the movement and reminded those in attendance of Reagan’s words about freedom being just one generation away from extinction. Levin said that the Tea Party movement is “astutely aware of the peril of the moment and all that is at stake.”

Levin will also be honored with the inaugural “Andrew Breitbart Defender of the First Amendment Award” at this year’s CPAC on Thursday, March 6.

As Breitbart News has reported, Levin’s monumental book, Liberty and Tyranny, sold over a million copies even though the mainstream media did not discuss or review it. The book presaged the Tea Party movement and was published shortly after Obama took office in 2009, and it predicted much of Obama’s statist agenda. Like the Tea Party movement and Levin, “it circumvented the legacy press to make a lasting impact. The success of the book also proved that the mainstream press are no longer the sole gatekeepers in today’s media environment.”

Jeffrey Lord, a conservative writer for the American Spectator and former Reagan administration official, also spoke at the event and said that nobody has done more to bring awareness to the meaning of the Constitution than Levin. Lord called Levin a “national treasure” and said “we owe him a considerable debt of gratitude.”

6 people lose food stamps due to overspending during outage

Feb 24, 2014 7:30 PM PST

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – Louisiana’s social services department said Monday it has stripped food stamps from six people who deliberately overspent their monthly benefits when the electronic service was down in October and was working to disqualify another 25 people.

Details of possible fraud also have been shared with local law enforcement, for district attorneys to decide if they want to prosecute people for knowingly breaching the limits on their monthly food stamp benefits.

The Department of Children and Family Services said it continues to work through the administrative hearing process, targeting 500 people out of 12,000 transactions that overspent available food stamp benefits four months ago during the system crash.

“The investigation and disqualification process is ongoing, and we expect it to result in additional disqualifications,” DCFS Secretary Suzy Sonnier said in a statement.

Several Louisiana retailers allowed food stamp recipients to make unlimited purchases on Oct. 12, when the electronic card system was down and balances couldn’t be checked. News reports showed carts at some stores piled high with groceries that were abandoned after the system was back online.

About 12,000 insufficient funds transactions were conducted when the contractor, Xerox Corp., had technical problems that shut down the system, though not all transactions are assumed to be intentionally fraudulent.      DCFS said it identified 500 deemed to be the “most egregious transgressors,” who took advantage of the computer snafu and tried to spend a combined $315,000 they didn’t have in available benefits. The transactions ranged from $300 to $2,000.

Letters were sent, targeting them for disqualification from the program. The department said it has received 113 responses so far.

The responses “have ranged from admitting to committing the fraudulent transactions, to declaring no knowledge of the transactions, and to stating that the retailer told the clients it was ‘okay’ to perform the transaction because ‘the government was shut down,’ ” Sonnier said.

No taxpayer dollars paid for the improper food stamp purchases because DCFS says it didn’t cover the costs of retailers who didn’t follow the outlined emergency process for when the electronic system crashes.

The sanctions under federal guidelines allow a one-year suspension of food stamps for a first offense, a two-year suspension for a second offense and a permanent disqualification from the program for a third offense, according to DCFS.

The agency said it provided state and local law enforcement with the information it has gathered about the overspending.

U.S. Sen. David Vitter has complained that state officials weren’t aggressively pursuing the overspending as food stamp fraud, and Treasurer John Kennedy recently criticized the department as being too lax in its response to known misuse of food stamps.

Vitter said more people should be punished for the overspending. He said he will push for more aggressive action Friday at a meeting with Sonnier and Attorney General Buddy Caldwell.

“Like many citizens, I am appalled by the outrageous theft and fraud and believe there should be serious consequences for what occurred,” he said in a statement.

Girl Scouts Hire Lesbian as Chief ‘Girl Experience Officer’

by  Austin Ruse 26 Feb 2014

As millions of moms consider digging into pocketbooks for Girl Scout cookies this year, they may be interested to know about the hiring of Krista Kokjohn-Poehler in the Girl Scouts executive office in New York City.

Kokjohn-Poehler is an out lesbian married to a woman named Ashley Kokjohn. And, given her sexual preference, it may strike some as odd that her job title is “Girl Experience Officer.”

Her hiring five months ago was largely missed by the coterie of Girl Scout critics around the country who make the claim that the Girl Scouts have drifted leftward in the past 20 years.

San Diego Magazine featured Kokjohn-Poehler’s 2007 commitment ceremony: “Like many of the best love stories, this one began with a beautiful friendship. Krista Poehler and Ashley Kokjohn were immediately drawn to each other when they met in college, and spent countless hours discussing family, life goals and much more.”

“The brides were radiant in formal white gowns; their parents wore black, and the bridesmaids wore taupe. The couple exchanged matching diamond eternity bands and read vows they wrote themselves, then their parents joined the bridal party and surrounded them in a ‘circle of love.’” Ashley called it beautiful, spiritual and perfect.

According to her LinkedIn profile, as “Chief Girl Experience Officer,” Kokjohn-Poehler will “serve as the chief of girl innovation and be the expert on and organizational voice for girls. Lead the “Girl Experience” team in efforts to take insights from marketplace data and collaborate internally and externally to drive program innovation.”

The main charge leveled by Girl Scout critics concerns the leftward drift of the Girl Scouts, which was founded along conservative religious principles. The leftward drift began in the early ’90s when God was made optional in the Girl Scout promise. This precipitated the founding of American Heritage Girls and the first widespread exit from the Girl Scouts.

In the ensuing years, social liberals insinuated themselves into national leadership of the Girl Scouts so that now it is unremarkable when they feature and promote women who are offensive to the sensibilities of hundreds of thousands of traditional-minded moms, including: Betty Friedan; Gloria Steinem; Hillary Clinton; Kathleen Sibelius, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services and chief promoter of the Obamacare contraceptive mandate; and Wendy Davis, advocate for late term abortions.

The leftward drift likely made them tone-deaf to the inevitable controversy in their hiring of homo punk-rocker Josh Ackley, whose band The Dead Betties and their music video depicting violence against a woman became national news after reporting by Breitbart News last fall.

Penny Nance, former Girl Scout and president of Concerned Women for America, told Breitbart News, “In the last ten years the Girl Scouts have lost about a few hundred thousand members, and part of the reason for that is their tone deafness toward the cultural values of American moms.”

Nance tells the story of a run-in her daughter had with Girl Scout hero Gloria Steinem. Nance’s daughter appeared with Steinem on a Nickelodeon panel show talking about women’s issues. Her daughter defended the pro-life position on air. According to Nance, during a break “with no parents present,” Steinem allegedly approached her daughter and bragged about having an abortion and said she was happy about it.

“And these are the types of people celebrated by the Girl Scouts?” said Nance.

In recent days, top Girl Scout execs, including CEO Anna Marie Chavez, have tried to beat back the ongoing cookie boycott started a month ago that threatens the much needed $700 million annual sales to fund Girl Scout activities.

The largely unreported news of Krista Kokjohn-Poehler’s hiring may be another sales headache for the junior sales force now pounding on doors.

White House silent about latest Benghazi Christian massacre

February 24, 2014

Libyan security officials on Monday reported that the remains of seven Egyptian Coptic Christians were discovered on a beach in Libya‘s city of Benghazi with gunshot wounds to the victims’ heads. Yet there were no statements released from President Barack Obama’s White House nor from the Department of State about the latest Benghazi massacre, according to former police counterterrorism detective, Jonathan Murray-Townes.

A U.S. police and intelligence expert, Townes told Law Enforcement Examiner that the victims were kidnapped from their apartments and then killed execution-style. Randolph believes the killings were perpetrated by Libyan Islamists from groups such as al-Qaeda or Ansar al-Sharia.

As has been reported by the Examiner in the past, the weak Libyan government and its security forces — military, police and intelligence — are incapable of enforcing the nation’s laws to control militias comprised of former rebels and Islamist terrorists who are heavily armed after they overthrew the Khadhafi regime and were able to confiscate the Khadhafi military’s weapons.

Radical Muslims in Libya are active in assassinating police, intelligence and military officers, as well as kidnapping victims for ransom and the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to create car bombs, Townes noted.

According to Chuck Randolph, unidentified men carrying automatic rifles visited a building in Benghazi and went door to door asking occupants if they prayed to Allah or Jesus Christ. If a person admitted being a follower of Christ, they were dragged out of the building.

An Egyptian foreign ministry report claims the kidnappers originally abducted eight Egyptian Christians from their homes. However, one those abducted was able to escape. The foreign ministry didn’t name the religion of those killed but published seven names which appeared to be Arab Christian.

The radical Islamic group Ansar al-Sharia is active in Libya and its branch in Benghazi is listed as a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. State and Treasury Departments in Washington, D.C., according to an Examiner report.

The U.S. intelligence community blames the Islamist group Ansar al-Sharia, an al-Qaeda ally, for the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi that left four Americans dead, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.

“The Benghazi killings of Americans continues to be a thorn in the side of Obama and his minions, so I can understand their reluctance to even mention the name of that Libyan city,” claims former police commanding officer, now a director of security for a government agency, Joseph Whalen, Jr.

“Wherever there is an ouster of an Arab leader these days, you’ll find Christians and Jews being slaughtered by radical Muslims seeking to setup a caliphate,” Whalen added.
