Bokhari: If Democrats Cared About the Environment, They’d Talk About China

Am I just seeing things? Or are all the “climate crisis solutions” proposed by the Democrats designed to cause maximum pain to ordinary people, and almost none to wealthy elites? Progressives almost seem to take joy in inconveniencing the masses for no reason. Take the plastic straw ban, for example. Even National Geographic — hardly an anti-environmentalist publication  admits that plastic straws comprise just 0.025 percent of the plastic in the oceans.

Contrast the minimal impact of plastic straws with the extraordinary impact of China, and, by extension, global free trade. China, alone, produces around a third of the ocean’s plastic waste. China’s CO2 emissions are greater than the U.S. and Europe combined, and keep going up.

If Democrats really believe that climate change is an existential threat to humanity, why are they proposing draconian and pointless curbs on the behavior of ordinary Americans? Why aren’t they going after multinationals that continue to do business with the world’s biggest polluter, without demanding any environmental commitments from them (and hey, maybe some human rights commitments too?).

You’d think Bernie, at least, would get this. But his big idea is to make everyone have fewer babies. Instead of tackling China, he’s proposing a distinctly Chinese policy. Just because he didn’t say “one-child policy” doesn’t mean the similarity isn’t there.

The real reason Democrats won’t go after China is that they are now the party of global elites, and global elites are constantly salivating about the profits that can be made from China’s market of 1.4 billion people. They look to Europe and America and see a dwindling middle class with a declining population. There’s no money in that, not long-term anyway. Maybe the problem could be fixed with pro-natal policies like Hungary’s, but why bother? It’s far easier to simply go overseas, to a country that does have a booming population and rising middle class.

That’s the same reason, by the way, that global elites are so vociferously opposed to President Donald Trump and his agenda. Trade restrictions on China, to protect American jobs? An outrage! The elites can’t make money off American jobs, you see. They’re just so much more expensive than Chinese jobs!

Ask yourself, why is big tech so determined to work with China, despite the political pitfalls? Did Google, which once boasted the hipster motto “don’t be evil,” really think they’d suffer no blowback for developing a censored search engine designed to appease Chinese state censors? Or that working with the Chinese military but not the American one would somehow escape notice? Of course not — but for all its professed “values,” there’s no way a profit-seeking multinational like Google can resist the temptation of a 1.4 billion-person market.

As for the impact on the environment, the elites don’t really care, no matter how many times they jet to various climate change summits around the globe. It’s not that they don’t believe in a looming environmental catastrophe, they just believe they can escape it. “Doomsday capitalism” is how the left-wing magazine CounterPunch describes the trend of billionaires investing in post-apocalypse getaways.

There’s a lot of misinformation out there about how conservatives see the climate. While they’re skeptical of man-made climate change, natural climate change is a different matter. And even if they don’t think climate change is a problem, that doesn’t mean that the massive amounts of pollution generated by the likes of China is Okay. Preserving the natural environment means preserving our heritage — a conservative goal.

But plastic straw bans, meat bans, and one-child policies won’t solve the problem. They simply cause unnecessary pain to ordinary people. Meanwhile, the Chinese dirty coal furnaces keep on burning.

It’s Official: Trump Winning the Trade War

Written By Kevin Jackson |

The media missed the latest news on China. And it’s not good, at least as far as Leftists in America are concerned.

America is winning!

As AP reports,

China’s factory activity contracted in July for a third month amid a tariff war with Washington and weak domestic demand. A monthly index released Wednesday by an industry group, the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing, stood at 49.7 on a 100-point scale. That was up 0.3 points from the previous month but still below the 50-point mark that shows activity contracting.
The data indicate China’s economic downturn was slowing, said a logistics federation statement. But it said the economy still faced “downward pressure.”
Chinese exporters have been hurt by President Donald Trump’s tariff hikes in a dispute over Beijing’s technology policies and trade surplus. Consumer demand also has weakened, hurt by uncertainty about China’s economic outlook. China’s economic growth fell to 6.2% over a year ago in the quarter ending in June, its lowest level since 1993.
U.S. and Chinese trade negotiators met Wednesday but economists said an early breakthrough was unlikely. The manufacturing decline “will continue in 2019 until the trade and technology negotiations make some progress,” said Iris Pang of ING in a report. Chinese leaders have tried to shore up economic activity by pumping money into building highways and other public works. That has supported demand for construction materials but failed to reverse the overall downturn.
Exports of Chinese goods to the United States fell 7.8% in June from a year earlier. China’s global exports sank 1.3%.

I reported on this a while back. And my information came from two sources.

First, I have a friend who lives in China who gave me his observations on the ground. He said that many Chinese factories were idle. He said that far too many Chinese weren’t in their normal pattern of sleep and work.

Second, my pretend-parents have factories in China. They said that negotiations for their activities favored them for the first time in over a decade. They have factories begging for their business, each willing to undercut the other.

Sadly, the media doesn’t want Americans to know what common sense explains. When President Trump removed $250 billion from the Chinese economy, the Chicoms felt the impact. The American economy continues to grow. And had it not been for Boeing’s issue with the 737-800s, the Trump economy would likely still be setting stock market records.

Fear not, for the bull market will continue…in America.

China won’t fare so well. That’s because they bet on the wrong strategy.

As AP reported:

U.S. and Chinese envoys held “constructive” trade talks on Wednesday, the White House said, after President Donald Trump rattled financial markets by accusing Beijing of trying to stall in hopes he will fail to win reelection in 2020.
The meeting, aimed at ending a tariff war over trade and technology, ended about 40 minutes ahead of schedule. Neither delegation spoke to reporters before U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin left for the airport. But White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said in a statement hours later that “the meetings were constructive,” and that talks are expected to resume in Washington in September, though exact dates were not announced.
According to the statement, the Chinese confirmed their commitment to President Donald Trump to buy more U.S. agricultural exports, something Trump had publicly been casting doubt on.
Economists had said quick breakthroughs were unlikely because the two governments face the same disagreements over China’s technology policy and trade surplus that caused talks to break down in May. Trump and President Xi Jinping agreed in June to resume negotiations but neither has given any sign of offering big concessions.
The dispute over U.S. complaints that Beijing steals or pressures companies to hand over technology has battered exporters on both sides and disrupted trade in goods from soybeans to medical equipment. Trump has raised tariffs on $250 billion worth of Chinese imports while Beijing responded by taxing $110 billion of U.S. products.

Trump’s economy is an undeniable success.

And as Newt Gingrich recently reminded us, strong economies win elections.

“If the economy stays good and the president stays focused, he’s going to win,” he remarked.

While making the prediction, Gingrich pointed to the Trump campaign’s increasing momentum, which he said: “is all predicated on just tremendous amounts of hard work.”

Our team weighed in:

Just last month, Trump broke another amazing economic record. It’s hard to believe one president could have so much success, but that’s only because we spent eight years taking the beat-down of a lifetime. And while Obama promised an economic recovery, Trump delivered.
It’s that simple. During the Obama administration, we lost jobs. Manufacturing packed up and headed overseas. ObamaCare strained small businesses to the breaking point. The stock market posted dismal numbers. In short, Obama put us in a depression darker than the Great Depression.
However, the morning after the election, stocks started to rise. The promise of a Trump White House put confidence back in the market. Manufacturing returned. Jobs came back. An as for the depression, Trump was the Prozac that put an end to it. Now, we can’t stop breaking records.
Meanwhile, desperate democrats can’t find a solid candidate or a unifying message. But no matter what they cling to, the Trump economy slaps them in the face. And when you add the trade war victory to the economy, the Trump train becomes unstoppable.

Peter Thiel: FBI, CIA Must Investigate ‘Treasonous’ Google

Billionaire investor, Facebook board member, and Trump supporter Peter Thiel recently called on the FBI and CIA to investigate Google for the “seemingly treasonous” act of aiding the Chinese military.

Axios reports that Peter Thiel, the billionaire Silicon Valley investor, Facebook board member, and longtime supporter of President Donald Trump, called on the FBI and CIA to investigate Google for allegedly aiding the Chinese military during his speech at the recent National Conservatism Conference. During the speech, Thiel noted “three questions that should be asked” by the federal government of tech giant Google.

Number one, how many foreign intelligence agencies have infiltrated your Manhattan Project for AI?

Number two, does Google’s senior management consider itself to have been thoroughly infiltrated by Chinese intelligence?

Number three, is it because they consider themselves to be so thoroughly infiltrated that they have engaged in the seemingly treasonous decision to work with the Chinese military and not with the US military… because they are making the sort of bad, short-term rationalistic [decision] that if the technology doesn’t go out the front door, it gets stolen out the backdoor anyway?

Thiel added that these questions “need to be asked by the FBI, by the CIA, and I’m not sure quite how to put this, I would like them to be asked in a not excessively gentle manner.” Thiel has been a long time supporter of Artificial Intelligence, joining Elon Musk and Reid Hoffman in pledging to commit a total of $1 billion to the non-profit group OpenAI in 2015.

Google has come under fire previously for its relationship with China, particularly the development of a censored Chinese search engine codenamed Project Dragonfly. During a speech before the Hudson Institute in 2018, Vice President Mike Pence criticized what he believes is China’s theft of U.S. technology, urging Google to take action on the issue. Pence said during the speech that other business leaders are hesitant to enter the Chinese market “if it means turning over their intellectual property or abetting Beijing’s oppression.”

Pence called on Google to listen to these other leaders and that “more must follow suit.” He also called on Google to end the development of its censored Chinese search engine project known as Dragonfly: “For example, Google should immediately end development of the ‘Dragonfly’ app that will strengthen Communist Party censorship and compromise the privacy of Chinese customers,” said Pence.

In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Chinese policy expert Dr. Michael Pillsbury noted that eight years ago, Google co-founder Sergey Brin received praise for refusing to do business with the Chinese government, a decision which now appears to have been completely reversed. “Fast forward eight years and Google has reversed itself, but done so secretly.”

Recently, e-commerce giant Amazon faced pressure from employees to cut ties with Peter Thiel’s Palantir, a data mining firm that is employed by ICE in its efforts to carry out deportations. Amazon employees are now circulating a letter from June 2018 in which they called for executives to ban Palantir from Amazon Web Services; Palantir’s software utilizes Amazon’s cloud computing unit.

S&P 500 touches new record after trade ceasefire, but rally is losing steam

Fred Imbert@foimbert

U.S. stocks rose on Monday after the U.S. and China agreed to hold off on slapping additional tariffs on their products in an effort to resume trade talks. The S&P 500 rose 0.5% and reached an all-time high of 2,977.86. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 53 points, or 0.2% as Nike and Apple outperformed. The Nasdaq Composite jumped 0.9%.

Chipmaker shares rose broadly. Skyworks Solutions gained 5.3% while Micron Technology advanced 3.8%. Shares of Qualcomm and Broadcom climbed 1.8% and 3.4%, respectively. Apple also rose 1.8%.

“The markets appear to be content with the cooperative tone coming out of the meetings. To me, it felt like the contrarian play was to the upside post meetings,” said Dan Deming, managing director at KKM Financial. “There was a great deal of bearishness in sentiment headed into the meeting. Many market observers were discounting any change in the narrative, which made many believe the risk was to the downside.”

But the major indexes pared their gains around midday in New York. If it weren’t for the big gains from chipmakers and other technology stocks on the Huawei reprieve, it would likely be an average slightly higher market day in reaction to the trade truce. At its session high, the S&P 500 was up 1.2%. The Dow and Nasdaq rose as much as 290 points and 1.8% respectively.

“There was a fair amount of exuberance at the open. I don’t know if it was celebrating good news or the absence of bad news,” said Willie Delwiche, investment strategist at Baird. “Either way, we started strong. The problem is, while we had a new high on the S&P 500, the number of individual stocks making new highs was shy of what we say back in late June,” when the index made its latest record close.

“I don’t want to overstress the importance of it, but it is not confirming the index-level highs,” Delwiche said.

Monday’s gains got Wall Street starting off the second half of the year on the right foot following a big first half. The S&P 500 rallied more than 17% to start off 2019, notching its best first half in more than 20 years. That surge came after stocks recovered in June from a torrid May performance. The Dow soared 7.2% in June, its biggest gain for that month since 1938. The S&P 500, meanwhile, jumped 7.9% for the month, marking its best June performance since 1955.

President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed not to impose new levies on U.S. and Chinese goods after meeting on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Osaka, Japan on Saturday. Trump said the meeting went as well as it could have, noting: “We are right back on track.” Chinese state-run news outlet Xinhua said the two leaders agreed to “to restart trade consultations between their countries on the basis of equality and mutual respect.”

Trump added the U.S. will ease restrictions on American companies from selling products to Huawei, a giant telecommunications company from China. The U.S. barred companies from selling to Huawei in May, citing national security concerns. The U.S. president also said China would “buy farm product.”

Investors anxiously awaited the meeting between Trump and Xi as they looked for clues on whether the world’s largest economies would resume trade negotiations or if the conflict would be prolonged. Chetan Ahya, global head of economics at Morgan Stanley, described the meeting’s outcome as “an uncertain pause.”

There is “no immediate escalation, but still no clear path towards a comprehensive deal,” Ahya said in a note Sunday. “As things stand, we lack clarity on whether real progress was achieved on the sticking points that caused talks to break down in the first place. Hence, our overarching conclusion is that the developments over the weekend on their own don’t do enough to remove the uncertainty created by trade tensions.”

Comments from Larry Kudlow, director of the National Economic Council, added to the uncertainty around U.S.-China trade relations. Kudlow told Fox News on Sunday that Trump was not granting Huawei “general amnesty. ” He also said there is no timetable for when a deal might be finalized.

The lingering uncertainty around U.S.-China trade relations will continue to dampen the outlook on corporate earnings, said Larry McDonald, editor of The Bear Traps Report.

“There’s a substantial decay factor developing inside the S&P 500′s earnings picture,” McDonald said. “CFO’s cannot make decisions with a purgatory of uncertainty, endlessly … hanging over the market. The equity rally is a screaming sell.”

Calendar second-quarter earnings for the S&P 500 are expected to fall on a year-over-year basis, according to FactSet data. Analysts also lowered their third-quarter earnings forecast to show a contraction from the previous year, as profit expectations for multinationals with exposure to China have soured.

China and the U.S. have been embroiled in a trade war for more than a year. In that time, the U.S. has slapped tariffs on more than $250 billion worth of Chinese imports. China has retaliated with levies of its own on U.S. products.

China closes doors of largest underground churches

Reported by Michael F. Haverluck (OneNewsNow.com) | Thursday, December 20, 2018

Chinese Commie PropagandaThe Chinese communist government continued its crackdown on Christianity by shutting down the nation’s largest underground churches.

A few of China’s prominent churches that were not under the control of the government were recently raided as communist officials seized Bibles, Christian materials and cell phones from church members.

Submit to the state first, God second

One 5,000-member church founded in Guangzhou Province in the 1970s – formerly pastored by the late prominent religious freedom advocate Samuel Lamb – was the latest target of the communist government in its quest to make all Chinese citizens in Christian churches bow down to its authority.

“An underground Protestant church, Guangzhou’s Rongguili Church, was closed and sealed after 60 police and Religious Affairs officials raided it [Sunday] morning,” Asia News reported. “Police entered the building during children’s Bible class, which was cancelled, and seized lists and books and took the names of those present – as well as their mobile phones.”

Rongguili Church and other underground churches that have not yet been forced to join the state’s Three-Self Movement – the Chinese government-controlled Protestant community – are now being targeted to conform to the government’s dictates … or be shut down.

“Since it is an underground Church, its meetings are deemed ‘illegal,’” Asia News’ Wang Zhicheng noted. “Local authorities posted a message on social media telling worshippers to go to 15 other registered Protestant churches.”

“[The Chinese government] knows that a lot of these churches … won’t budge, so they’re thinking of ways to completely shut them down and … dismantle them. I think these Christians, in preparation, knew what might come – but it’s inspiring that despite of that they still want to continue to worship and gather in public to testify their faith.”

Gina Goh
International Christian Concern
(in an interview with OneNewsNow.com)

Crackdown on Christianity

Shutting down China’s largest underground Protestant churches not submitting to the government’s communist dictates is becoming a trend in the world’s most populous nation, with Rongguili Church’s closure preceded by Beijing’s Zion Church being forced to close it doors in September and the Early Rain Covenant Church having to close down last week.

“The previous Sunday, Dec. 9, the Early Rain Covenant Church in Chengdu was shut down, and more than a dozen Christians were arrested, including Pastor Wang Yi,” WND reported. ”In September, Beijing’s largest unregistered church, the 1,500-member Zion Church, was closed … after refusing a government order to install security cameras in the sanctuary.”

After Wang Li was released from custody, he issued a public statement in defense of his nonviolent resistance to China’s “evil” and “wicked” rulers who authorized the raid of his church.

“I firmly believe that Christ has called me to carry out this faithful disobedience through a life of service, under this regime that opposes the Gospel and persecutes the Church,” Wang Li proclaimed, according to Christianity Today. “This is the means by which I preach the Gospel, and it is the mystery of the Gospel which I preach.”

The vocal and courageous pastor does not plan on relenting to Chinese authorities any time soon.

“Wang declared prior to his arrest that the church would continue to gather in the event of a government shutdown,” WND announced. “World magazine reported [that] 50 to 60 people gathered for worship outdoors this week and were arrested. At least 10 leaders of the Early Rain Church remain in custody. Leaders who have been released said they were shackled, starved and tortured while in detention.”

A call to end the persecution

With the intensifying crackdown on China’s underground church movement, American advocates of the persecuted Church are calling for action against the communist authorities’ crackdown on Christianity.

“The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom – an independent entity created by Congress – recommended in a report last week putting China on the State Department’s “Countries of Particular Concern” list of the world’s worst religious freedom violators,” WND added.

U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback has called out Chinese President Xi Jingping for reverting to the old ways of the Chinese government.

“China isn’t backing away from the religious persecution,” Brownback asserted, according to CNN. “It seems to be expanding.”

And there are no signs that the communist regime’s incessant attack on the Church will abate any time soon.

“The Chinese government is increasingly concerned about the growth of Christianity – especially among underground communities – and is implementing with ever-growing rigor new regulations on religious activities with the aim of eliminating churches that are not under the control of patriotic associations,” Zhicheng informed. “Recent reports indicate that Beijing’s Cathedral of the Immaculate will also not be spared. In this case, the church will be closed indefinitely for [so-called] ‘repairs,’ Catholic worshippers are invited to use the Church of St Saviour [in] Beitang.”

“Repairs” are reportedly the excuse Chinese authorities are using to at least temporarily shut churches down that do not bow down to their authority.

“For many believers, these ‘repairs’ are just a veiled attempt to hamper Christmas celebrations, which attract thousands of people – even non-Christians – whose curiosity often leads them to the catechumenate,” Zhicheng added. “Conversely, other Catholics believe that ‘repairs’ are needed, but the question remains as to why they should start just a few days before Christmas.”

Chinese Military Heading Toward Korean Border as Residents Are Warned to Prepare for War

Reported By Cillian Zeal | January 2, 2018 at 10:29pm

URL of the original posting site: https://conservativetribune.com/chinese-military-korean-border/

Several reports out of the China-North Korean border area indicate that Beijing is massing People’s Liberation Army troops on the frontier and has told them to prepare for war.

“Columns of (People’s Liberation Army) trucks have been pictured on the move near Yanji City which is close to the triple border between China, Russia and North Korea,” the U.K. Star reported Tuesday.

According to a computer translation of the Korean-language Daily NK, military trucks have been moving into position at night so as not to attract the attention of locals.

“There were so many soldiers in (vehicles) that there was a traffic jam,” a source reportedly said on Dec. 30. “We have not seen so many soldiers trucking to Yanji so far.”

Sources in the Chinese media have said that the PLA is “preparing for war on the Korean Peninsula” and that army commanders have participated in a “war ceremony” urging their troops to be ready for war. Pictures of the ceremony, shot last month, show massive gatherings of Chinese troops, all of whom were purportedly swearing oaths only given during wartime.

Meanwhile, residents of the area have apparently been told that “Trump (is) to hit North Korea in the New Year, we are preparing for war on the peninsula,” a source said. China’s move comes as North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un warned in his New Year’s Day address that he has a “nuclear button” on his desk and that North Korea would continue its development of atomic weapons in 2018.

“The entire United States is within range of our nuclear weapons, a nuclear button is always on my desk. This is reality, not a threat,” Kim said, according to NBC News.

“This year, we should focus on mass-producing nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles for operational deployment. These weapons will be used only if our society is threatened.”

The troop movement also comes as President Trump accused the Chinese of selling oil to North Korean tankers at sea.

“Caught RED HANDED – very disappointed that China is allowing oil to go into North Korea,” the president tweeted. “There will never be a friendly solution to the North Korea problem if this continues to happen!”

The tweet came after it was revealed that the South Koreans had intercepted a Chinese-flagged vessel accused of selling oil to the North Koreans in violation of United Nations sanctions imposed after Pyongyang’s latest nuclear test. However, reports have also indicated that the incident wasn’t isolated, with Chinese-flagged vessels spotted transferring oil to North Korea 30 times since October.

There have been three possible reasons postulated for China’s massive buildup on the North Korean border. The first is to guard against an influx of refugees should a war break out in North Korea. The second would be to seize assets in the hermit state should the Kim regime fall. The third — and most ominous — is that China could be prepared to join any possible war on North Korea’s side.

While China has shown support for imposing sanctions against North Korea, it’s shown less enthusiasm for actually enforcing them. Beijing is also Pyongyang’s closest ally and trading partner, something that the Trump administration has repeatedly tried to leverage to get Kim Jong Un under control during this latest spell of bellicosity.

Would Beijing be willing to spark a world war over North Korea’s nuclear ambitions, particularly if the first move comes from Pyongyang? It’s not entirely implausible, especially given this latest buildup. Bottom line: If you were worried about Chinese military intervention in North Korea before, this is not a pleasant augury.

Secret Doc Shows China Promising to Give Nukes to North Korea. Saying one thing publicly while assuring and supplying Pyongyang exposes Beijing’s duplicity in dealing with the U.S.

Reported by Mark Tapscott | Updated 02 Jan 2018 at 2:20 PM

Chinese officials continue to supply North Korea with needed supplies such as oil and promise to give the dictatorial regime on its northeast border more nuclear missiles, according to a secret government document obtained by an American journalist and published Tuesday by the Washington Free Beacon.

“The document, labeled ‘top secret’ and dated September 15 — 12 days after North Korea’s latest underground nuclear blast — outlines China’s plan for dealing with the North Korean nuclear issue,” according to WFB’s national security reporter, Bill Gertz.

“It states China will allow North Korea to keep its current arsenal of nuclear weapons, contrary to Beijing’s public stance that it seeks a denuclearized Korean peninsula. Chinese leaders also agreed to offer new assurances that the North Korean government will not be allowed to collapse, and that Beijing plans to apply sanctions ‘symbolically’ to avoid punishing the regime of leader Kim Jong-un under a recent U.N. resolution requiring a halt to oil and gas shipments into North Korea.”

In return, China only asked North Korea to halt its current nuclear testing program, while waiting for times to become “ripe” to make genuine moves toward “denuclearization.” In the context of Beijing’s assurance that it will not allow the North Korean regime to collapse, such denuclearization might mean nothing more than China promising massive retaliation in the event the regime is attacked.

“Your department should at the same time seriously warn the Korean authority not to overdo things on the nuclear issue,” the document said. “Currently, there is no issue for our country to forcefully ask Korea to immediately and completely give up its nuclear weapons.

“Instead, we ask Korea to maintain restraint and after some years when the conditions are ripe, to apply gradual reforms and eventually meet the requirement of denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.”

Gertz said he obtained the Chinese government document “from a person who once had ties to the Chinese intelligence and security communities. An English translation can be found here. (See below. Pasted it for your review)”

Gertz was unable to secure comment from either the U.S. CIA or the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Public exposure of the document will almost certainly draw an angry response from President Donald Trump, who has previously touted his relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Trump said last year that he had been “going easy” on China.

NO. 000003 TOP SECRET

Document of General Office of the Communist Party of China

 GOC Issuance (2017) No. 94

_______________________________________________

The Decision of General Office of the Communist Party of China on Conducting Communication and Coordination Work between Our Country and  The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea  for Further In-depth Solution of Its Nuclear Issue

 International Liaison Department of CPC,

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (abbreviated as Korea hereafter) is not only an important military buffer zone for our country to fend off the western hostile forces, but also, for socialism with Chinese characteristics led by our Party, its important position in our political strategy is also irreplaceable.  Therefore, our Party and country, must defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Korea at all costs and really ensure the stability and continuity of the Korean government, and unwaveringly stick to our position to firmly maintain peace on the Korean Peninsula.  Given the fact that the Korean ruling authorities recently acted arbitrarily again to conduct the sixth underground nuclear test without fully consulting with us and created a huge negative impact on the international community because of this, the Security Council of the United Nations unanimously approved United Nations Security Council Resolution 2375 (referred as the Resolution hereafter) on September 11, 2017 local time to further punish and isolate the Korean ruling authorities.  The result of the Resolution appropriately strengthened the punishment against the Korean ruling authorities. However it also aggravated the suffering of the general population inside Korea and further made the situation on the peninsula tending to be more complicated and ambiguous.  In any sense, historical experience shows that terms or resolutions as such will not and are impossible to force the Korean ruling authorities to suspend or completely give up conducting nuclear tests.  On the contrary, because of huge double pressure from both domestic and foreign sources, based on its own political and security concerns, the Korean ruling authorities will further consolidate its will and determination to continue its development of nuclear forces, and that will aggravate the vicious cycle of the situation on the Korean peninsula.  Now, to further broaden and strengthen coordination and effectively deepen the solution of the Korean nuclear issue, according to the related decisions and arrangements for the Korean nuclear issue by the Party Central Committee and the State Council, and with the guiding spirit on handling the Korean-related issues from various meetings of the National Security Commission of the Communist Party of China, after research and assessment, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to authorize your department to lead and organize the communication and coordination work with the Korean ruling authorities on its nuclear issues.  The specific requirements are as the following:

Your department should further emphasize to Korea about our determination to protect the Korean government on behalf of the Central Committee of CPC and reiterate and confirm the related assurance made by us.  At the same time, your department should make further specific, profound, and detailed analyses for Korea on the current situation of the Korean Peninsula in exchange for Korea to make substantial compromises on its nuclear issues.  According to the current deployment of world forces and the geographic position of the Korean Peninsula, to prevent the collapse of the Korean government and the possible direct military confrontation with western hostile forces led by the United States on the Korean Peninsula caused by these issues, our country, Russia, and other countries will have to resort to all the effective measures such as diplomatic good offices and military diversion to firmly ensure the peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and to prevent “chaos and war,” which is also the common position held firmly by our country, Russia, and others.  Meanwhile, considering if the United States rushes to war against Korea, it will certainly have a huge influence and impact on the political and economic structure of the Asian Pacific region and even the whole world.  At such a time, the security of Japan and (South) Korea can be hardly taken care of, especially the security of Seoul, the (South) Korean capital.  Also, our country, Russia, and others will absolutely not look on the chaotic situation on the Korean Peninsula without taking any action.  So taking the factors of various aspects into comprehensive consideration, theoretically the possibility does not exist that western countries led by the United States will carry out armed provocations and even overthrow the current Korean government via military means in order to solve Korean nuclear issues.  However, international provocations by Korea via repeatedly conducting nuclear tests has imposed huge international pressure on our country which is continuously accumulating and becoming unbearably heavy.  To show the position of our country as a responsible world power to firmly support the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and maintain the authority of its signed Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, while your department gives Korea a stern warning, you should also make further related assurances to Korea at the same time, that is, currently Korea will not have to immediately give up its nuclear weapons, and that so long as Korea promises not to continue conducting new nuclear tests and immediately puts those promises into action, our country will immediately increase economic, trade, and military assistance to Korea, and will add or continue providing the following benefits:

 1. To greatly promote increasing trade with Korea to ensure the normal operation of the Korean government and raise the living standard of the Korean people.  As for products under international sanctions such as crude oil products (except for the related products clearly defined as related to nuclear tests), under the condition of fully ensuring domestic demand of Korea, we will only make a symbolic handling or punishment.

 2. After closing down Korean businesses in China according to the terms of the Resolution, our country will not for the moment restrict Korea from entrusting qualified Chinese agencies from trade with Korea or conducting related trade activities via third countries (region).

 3. To further strengthen and increase assistance for the daily life and infrastructure building of Korea, 2018 related assistance funds will have a one-time increase of 15% more than 2017, and in the following five years, they will be increased each year by no less than 10% over the previous year.

 4. Regulations that our country would suspend all banking business with Korea will only apply to state-owned banks controlled by the central government and some regional banks.

 5. To increase investment in Korean defensive military construction and further provide Korea with high-level military science and technology, such as more advanced mid- and shortrange ballistic missiles, cluster munitions, etc., assisting in strengthening Korea’s ability to maintain stability according to the stability maintenance experience of our country and Korean characteristics.

Your department should at the same time seriously warn the Korean authorities not to overdo things on the nuclear issue.  Currently, there is no issue for our country to forcefully ask Korea to immediately and completely give up its nuclear weapons.  Instead, we ask Korea to maintain restraint and after some years when the conditions are ripe, to apply gradual reforms and eventually meet the requirement of denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.  If Korea insists on acting arbitrarily, our country will further assess it and unilaterally impose specific punitive measures against Korean senior leaders and their family members.

This issue is about the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and the fundamental interests of our Party, our country, and all Chinese people, so your department should quickly cooperate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce, etc. according to the requirements of this decision and related spirit, to carefully make a related working plan, to ensure the sense of responsibility, to strictly maintain related confidentiality, and to seriously accomplish the heavy tasks entrusted by the Central Committee of CPC.

Trump Granted Special Honor Chinese Have Bestowed on No Other President

Reported By Cillian Zeal | November 9, 2017 at 11:08am

URL of the original posting site: https://conservativetribune.com/trump-granted-special-honor/?

On Wednesday, as part of his trip to China, President Trump became the first U.S. president to receive a dinner inside Beijing’s Forbidden City, the New York Daily News reported.

“President Trump is being treated like a royal during his visit to China, and received a rare dinner inside the country’s most famed imperial palace,” the newspaper noted.

“Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday as part of his 12-day tour of Asia, and was greeted by a small army of children waving American and Chinese flags as part of an elaborate welcoming ceremony.”

According to WKOW-TV, no foreign leader has received a dinner inside the palace in 68 years — since the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

The Forbidden City is an elaborate palace complex that served as the seat of the Imperial Chinese Dragon Throne from 1420 to 1912. It was built after Emperor Zhu Di moved the capital of the Chinese empire from Nanjing to Beijing.

Constructed over a period of 14 years, it required a million workers to complete. When the Republic of China came into being in the early 20th century, the Forbidden City ceased to be the seat of government. In 1925, parts of it became a museum.

While a state dinner in the Forbidden City is unheard of for a U.S. president, it is worth noting that during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States earlier this year, President Trump took him to Mar-a-Lago, a stately residence of slightly more recent provenance. I guess Xi was just returning the favor.

Fatuous jokes aside, the state dinner had obvious political implications.

In the past month, Xi has been in the process of one of the most impressive consolidations of power in China since the Mao years. In mid-October, the Chinese leader presided over the 19th Party Congress — a gathering that, in a country where democracy is non-existent, serves in its decisiveness as the dictatorial version of election night. It was the first Party Congress Xi chaired, and, as The Economist noted, “(t)he test will reveal whether he is a rule-breaker or a rule-keeper.”

Xi definitely went the rule-breaker route. At the Congress, he introduced “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.” That sounds more snoozeworthy than a cricket match on rain delay, but much like Ron Burgundy, it’s kind of a big deal.

A Chinese leader putting his name on a program that guides Beijing’s future development both nationally and internationally is almost unprecedented since Mao, and the fact that it’s mostly accepted by the party faithful has made Xi the most powerful Chinese ruler in decades.

Or, as Trump put it more succinctly, “Now some people might call him the king.”

Now that he’s consolidated power at home, smoothing things over abroad is Xi’s next big challenge, particularly when it comes to the United States.

Trump has repeatedly called out China on trade and its relationship with North Korea, both issues that could destabilize Xi’s hold on power in the long term should things get ugly.

Thus, the royal welcome and the state dinner inside the Forbidden City, a historical site of considerable pride for a country known for considerable nationalism makes sense. That’s probably not going to make anyone in the Trump administration forget about Beijing’s on-again-off-again relationship with Pyongyang or its trade policies — but if flattery won’t get China everywhere in this case, one guesses Xi and his retinue hope it will at least get them somewhere.

Trump Returning to US with Over $250 Billion in Deals, China Announces ‘This Is Truly A Miracle’

Reported By Jack Davis | November 9, 2017 at 12:49pm

URL of the original posting site: https://www.westernjournalism.com/trump-returning-to-us-with-over-250-billion-in-deals-china-announces-this-is-truly-a-miracle/?

President Donald Trump announced Thursday roughly $250 billion in deals between American businesses and China. On his final day in Beijing, Trump and China’s President Xi Jinping oversaw a ceremony in which corporate giants such as Boeing and Qualcomm signed multibillion-dollar deals.

“This is truly a miracle,” China’s Commerce Minister Zhong Shan said at a news briefing in Beijing.

Trump said Thursday he was looking forward to a change in the U.S.-China relationship.

“Discussing trade … knowing that the United States really has to change its policies because they’ve gotten so far behind on trade with China and frankly with many other countries,” he said.]

“And I have great respect for you with that because you’re representing China. But it’s too bad that past administrations allowed it to get so far out of kilter. But we’ll make it fair and it’ll be tremendous to both of us.”

Trump went out of his way to avoid alienating his host.

“Both the United States and China will have a more prosperous future if we can achieve a level economic playing field. Right now, unfortunately, it is a very one-sided and unfair one. But — but I don’t blame China,” he said.

“After all, who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for the benefit of its citizens? I give China great credit,” he said.

Trump did not cite former President Barack Obama by name, but he had him in mind.

“But, in actuality, I do blame past administrations for allowing this out-of-control trade deficit to take place and to grow. We have to fix this because it just doesn’t work for our great American companies, and it doesn’t work for our great American workers. It is just not sustainable. I look forward to working toward that goal and to pursuing fair and lasting engagement,” he said.

Trump pointed out that business connections can help create a more peaceful world.

“The contributions of the business community represented here today are vital to our efforts to ensure peace and prosperity for our two nations. Together, we can unlock a future of opportunity, wealth, and dignity far beyond anybody’s wildest dreams,” he said.

China could invest more than $100 billion into two U.S. energy projects, CNN reported.

The China Energy Investment Corp. agreed to a 20-year $83.7 billion investment in shale gas developments and chemical manufacturing projects in West Virginia.

“The massive size of this energy undertaking and level of collaboration between our two countries is unprecedented,” West Virginia Secretary of Commerce H. Wood Thrasher said in a statement, according to Reuters.

China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. and the Alaskan government will work together to develop the state’s liquefied natural gas industry in a $43 billion project that Alaska says will create up to 12,000 jobs.

Qualcomm signed agreements worth $12 billion with Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo, three Chinese handset makers.

Boeing will sell 300 Boeing jets to state-run China Aviation Suppliers in $37 billion deal.

Some said the deals offer a place to start a new trade relationship between the two nations.

“Generally, the sense was that this is all a good thing and that’s great,” said Gentry Sayad, a Shanghai-based lawyer who attended the trade delegation event in Beijing. “Now let’s see what really happens and whether or not the agreements signed during this trip can become a basis for a better bilateral trade relationship going forward.”

Exclusive: Donald Trump Urged to Nationalize America’s Only Rare Earth Mine

Reported by John Carney | 30 Aug 2017

President Donald Trump met with an executive from an American advanced materials manufacturer who urged the president to prevent China from cornering the market in rare earth materials by nationalizing the only rare earth mine in the United States.

An investor group that allegedly has ties to the Chinese government in June purchased the rare earth mine in Mountain Pass, California that was one of the final remaining assets of the now bankrupt Molycorp Inc. The mine is one of the very few not already controlled by China, which accounts for 97 percent of the global rare-earth mineral production.

“By buying up Mountain Pass, the Chinese have locked up the only operating rare earth mining operation outside of China,” said Michael Silver, chief executive of American Elements Corp., in an interview with Breitbart News about his White House meetings.

China’s control of rare earth mining has implications for the U.S. military. According to a 2016 Government Accountability Office study, certain rare earth materials are “essential to the production, sustainment, and operation of U.S. military equipment.” Critical military uses include rare earths employed in antimissile defense systems, precision-guided weapons, lasers, communications systems, night vision equipment, satellites and military aircraft.

“Reliable access to the necessary material…is a bedrock requirement for the [Department of Defense],” the GAO wrote.

The GAO found that the Defense Department lacked any comprehensive plan for how to deal with “potential supply disruptions.”

The Decline and Fall of America’s Rare Earth Capacity

The U.S. was once the world’s largest producer of such metals but in recent decades has lost out to China, where the rare earth minerals are plentiful and companies are not burdened by environmental and labor regulation.  By 1999, more than 90 percent of the rare earth materials used by U.S. industry came from deposits in China. Today, China produces 97 percent of rare earth elements used globally.

Last year, there were no rare earth materials mined in the U.S., according to the Department of the Interior’s U.S. Geological Survey.  The U.S. imports between $120 million and $160 million worth of rare earths a year, around 9 percent of total global demand for the minerals.

The 2015 bankruptcy of Molycorp, which owned the Mountain Pass rare earth mine, was responsible for shutting down U.S. production. That followed from a sharp decline in prices of rare earth as China kept up its massive production, flooding the market. This global excess supply pushed the price of some rare earths below their cost of production, making the mining and processing uneconomical outside of China.

A buyout group led by U.S. investors and backed by China’s Shenghe Resources Holding Co. won approval in June by a bankruptcy court to buy the mine. Rival bidder Tom Clarke has called for the U.S. government to review the acquisition with an eye to Shenghe’s alleged ties to the Chinese government.

Silver met with Trump twice in July to discuss nationalizing the Mollycorp mine. He also held meetings with Trump’s senior staff, including then chief strategist Stephen Bannon  and then deputy assistant Sebastian Gorka. He urged the Trump administration to use the power of eminent domain to acquire the mine for use as a new national laboratory dedicated to preserving America’s rare-earth mining capacity.

Rare-earth minerals were first used commercially to produce color televisions. Today they are used in the manufacture of high-tech items that are central to the modern economy, including laptop computers, iPhones, wind turbines, camera lenses, aircraft engines and hybrid electric cars.  According to a report from the U.S. Geological Survey, rare earth elements are “vital to modern technologies and lifestyles.”

China’s ramped up production was a reversal of a 2010 that had capped its rare earth exports. The U.S. viewed this cap as an attempt to force manufacturers to locate in China and put pressure on China to reverse its stance. That happened in 2015 following a ruling by the World Trade Organization that China’s practices were unfair. The lifting of the caps sent rare earth prices crashing.

Silver, the American Elements executive, says this was the result of China dumping the minerals on the market at rock-bottom prices in an effort to drive out competitors. Any attempt to make the Molycorp mine commercially viable will fail, according to silver, because China can hold prices lower for longer than any competitor can stay solvent.

Now China is using its control of the market to cajole companies to manufacture in China, according to Silver. That puts any efforts to restore manufacturing in America at risk, he said.

A Plan to Prevent China’s Sole Control

“We need to assure high-tech manufacturers that it is safe to locate plants in the U.S. At this point, the only place you can site a plant is China because of their control over the minerals,” Silver said.

Under Silver’s plan, the mine would become one of the U.S. government’s national labs. The best-known of these research facilities run by the Department of Energy is the famous Los Alamos National Laboratory. Nationalizing the mine would guarantee that manufacturers wouldn’t lose access to the rare-earth minerals if China decided to restrict their import.

“One you guarantee access to the minerals, where’s the best place to site your plant? The U.S. because of quality labor, our academics, our know how,” Silver said.

Nationalizing the mine would not stop China’s ability to set price globally. But government ownership would allow the mine to continue operating even if it were unprofitable. That, in turn, would allow the U.S. to continue to employ rare earth scientists domestically and develop new rare earth technologies. Under the U.S. Constitution, the government is allowed to take ownership of the property through the power of eminent domain so long as property owners receive appropriate compensation.

American Elements is a Los Angeles-based manufacturer of metals and chemicals with a catalog of more than 15,000 products, according to Silver. He was one of the first Americans to set up a distribution supply chain from China to North America, he said in an interview.

“I probably stand to lose money by arguing for nationalizing the mine. But I feel like this is my duty as a patriot,” Silver said.

China Announces It Will Implement Tough Sanctions Against North Korea

Reported

URL of the original posting site: http://www.westernjournalism.com/china-announces-will-implement-tough-sanctions-north-korea/

For the second time in recent days, China took a major step to put pressure on North Korea to resolve its standoff with the United States over North Korea’s missile development efforts. The Chinese government announced Monday it will implement the sanctions that were imposed against North Korea by the United Nations on Aug. 5.

The Security Council sanctions block nations from accepting North Korea’s primary exports, including coal, iron, iron ore, lead and seafood. The sanctions also target other revenue streams, such as banks and joint ventures with foreign companies. The sanctions could cost North Korea a third of its $3 billion annual export revenue.

Although China did not block the sanctions at the U.N., it was unclear until the announcement whether China, which is North Korea’s largest trading partner, would implement them. China also faces possible action from President Donald Trump, who has said he may order an investigation into allegations of unfair Chinese trade practices.

“It is obviously improper to use one thing as a tool to imposing pressure on another thing,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Monday. “There will be no winner from a trade war, it will be lose-lose.”

Advertisement – story continues below

China’s action to implement the sanctions came days after a state-run newspaper said that if North Korea attacks the United States, it will fight any war that results on its own.

“China should also make clear that if North Korea launches missiles that threaten U.S. soil first and the U.S. retaliates, China will stay neutral,” the Global Times editorial said.

Throughout the escalation of tensions between the United States and North Korea, China has called for restraint.

“The current situation on the Korean Peninsula is complicated and sensitive,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said in a statement Friday.

“China hopes that all relevant parties will be cautious in their words and actions, and do things that help to alleviate tensions and enhance mutual trust, rather than walk on the old pathway of taking turns in shows of strength, and upgrading the tensions,” he said.

Writing in The Washington Post, David Von Drehle said China needs to emerge from the North Korean-American showdown with a win.

” … the audience of greatest concern to China — namely, the other leading countries in the region, including Japan, India, Australia, South Korea, the Philippines and Vietnam — faces the urgent question of whether they can trust a rising China to share in safeguarding their sphere. If the problem of Kim isn’t defused, those nations are sure to seek even deeper alliances with the United States while building their own military capacity. China’s regional influence will shrink rather than grow,” he wrote.

US And South Korea Fire Missiles Into Sea As A ‘Show Of Force’ To North Korea

Reported

URL of the original posting site: http://www.westernjournalism.com/u-s-south-korea-fire-missiles-sea-show-force-north-korea/

The U.S. Army and South Korean military fired at least two surface-to-surface precision missiles into South Korean waters Wednesday, local time, as a joint demonstration of their attack capabilities in response to North Korea’s latest missile test.

North Korea announced Tuesday it had successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile, which state media claims reached an altitude of 1,741 miles, supposedly giving the regime the capability to strike Alaska with a nuclear warhead.

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un celebrated the launch, calling it a “package of gifts” for “American bastards.”

The U.S. Army said its joint exercise with the South Korean military was a direct response to “North Korea’s destabilizing and unlawful actions on July 4.”

Officials released footage Tuesday evening of the simultaneous launches of Army’s Tactical Missile System and South Korea’s Hyunmoo Missile II system. The ATACMS is a mobile launch system capable of firing land-based missiles up to 185 miles away.

“The [South Korea]-U.S. alliance remains committed to peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and throughout the Asia-Pacific. The U.S. commitment to the defense of [South Korea] in the face of threats is ironclad,” the Pentagon said in a statement.

Chief Pentagon spokeswoman Dana W. White said the U.S. is prepared to defend itself and its allies.

“We remain prepared to defend ourselves and our allies and to use the full range of capabilities at our disposal against the growing threat from North Korea,” White said in a statement. “The United States seeks only the peaceful denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.”

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson strongly condemned North Korea’s ICBM launch, calling it “a new escalation of the threat to the United States, our allies and partners, the region, and the world.”

“Global action is required to stop a global threat,” Tillerson said Tuesday. “Any country that hosts North Korean guest workers, provides any economic or military benefits, or fails to fully implement UN Security Council resolutions is aiding and abetting a dangerous regime.”

“The United States seeks only the peaceful denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the end of threatening actions by North Korea. As we, along with others, have made clear, we will never accept a nuclear-armed North Korea,” Tillerson said.

President Donald Trump called on China to put pressure on North Korea to “end this nonsense once and for all” in a series of tweets Monday evening.

“North Korea has just launched another missile. Does this guy have anything better to do with his life?” Trump tweeted in reference to Kim Jong-un. “Hard to believe that South Korea and Japan will put up with this much longer. Perhaps China will put a heavy move on North Korea and end this nonsense once and for all!”

THAAD Missile Set Up in North Korea Is Officially Ready to Use

Advertisement – story continues below

URL of the original posting site: http://conservativetribune.com/us-officials-news-border-advantage/

A missile defense system that the United States has begun installing in South Korea has “reached an initial operating capability to defend against North Korean missiles,” according to news reports. U.S. officials confirmed Monday that the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system, which was deployed to the Korean peninsula in order to counter the threat of missile strikes from Kim Jong Un’s regime, had successfully come online, according to Reuters. However, they cautioned that full operability would not be reached for several months.

The system’s installation has been a point of contention with China, which has argued that THAAD’s radar could be used to spy on Beijing and would weaken the deterrent effect of China’s own ballistic missiles.

“It helps in no way to achieve the denuclearization of the peninsula and regional peace and stability,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said last week, according to Agence France-Presse.

He added Beijing would “take necessary measures to safeguard its own interests.”

On Tuesday, North Korean officials said that the introduction of the THAAD system, in addition to American bomber drills with Japan and South Korea, had pushed the peninsula to “the brink of nuclear war.”

According to Reuters, North Korea state news agency KCNA reported that the bomber flights were “a nuclear bomb-dropping drill against major objects” in North Korea.

It also said that President Donald Trump and “other U.S. warmongers are crying out for making a preemptive nuclear strike.”

Yes, apparently we’re the warmongers, even as North Korea conducts illegal missile tests and broadcasts concerts with video of San Francisco being blown up by a nuclear weapon.

It’s obvious that Kim Jong In is not tethered to reality. Dictators living in la-la land are hardly anything new, but most of them don’t have nuclear weapons at their disposal.

Thankfully, we have the THAAD to intercept any missiles from Kim Jong Un’s regime, meaning whatever advantage he had is not what it used to be.

Breaking: China Issues New Orders at NK Border, They Know We’re Coming

As tensions continue to mount on the Korean peninsula and in the surrounding east-Asian region, China appeared to make further preparations for what increasingly looked like an impending humanitarian crisis. According to The Korea Times, a Chinese government document was recently spotted in the border town of Dandong ordering the “urgent” recruitment of individuals fluent in both Chinese and Korean.

Though the document didn’t specify the number of Chinese-Korean interpreters to be recruited, it did mention 10 separate departments for which the interpreters could conceivably work, including departments dealing with border security, public safety, customs, trade and medical quarantine.

Radio Free Asia reported on the document as well, and while it noted that a Chinese foreign affairs spokesperson dismissed the urgent request for interpreters as “normal working requirements,” they couldn’t help but point out that the order came at a time of drastically increased tension and fear that military action against North Koreacould result in a flood of refugees surging across the border into China.

“Security and stability are very fragile at the moment, and the danger is great of a new conflict breaking out at any time,” Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in a recent news conference. “We can’t risk even a 1 percent possibility of war.”

Such a conflict would have “unimaginable consequences,” he said. “Therefore, we call on all sides to be prudent and refrain from any actions or words that could lead to new provocations.”

A journalist for The Toronto Globe and Mail who has been at the Chinese-North Korean border for a time also noted the document in an in-depth report on the tension that has settled over the entire region.

“People living here have a deep sense of fatigue,” explained Jin Qiangyi, director of the Centre for North and South Korea Studies at Yanbian University in China’s northeastern city of Yanji.

The people “are growing tired of it all,” the professor explained. “The current state of things is more tense than it has ever been in the past.”

The reporter also noted other cities and towns placing themselves on “high alert” status and an abundance of military vehicles and troops staged throughout the area.

He further noted that a failed nuclear test or similar catastrophe would likely send a cloud of radioactive contamination across the border into China, and that any sort of military strike or subsequent political unrest could prompt waves of refugees in the hundreds of thousands to try and flee the communist prison regime.

While the urgent request for Chinese-Korean interpreters could very well be nothing more than normal procedure as Chinese officials claimed, odds are great that they are actually in preparation for a military strike that may be forthcoming in the near future, particularly if rogue dictator Kim Jong Un insists on testing a nuclear device in spite of United Nations resolutions prohibiting him from doing so and a near-unanimous international alliance warning him explicitly not to.

After Trump Administration Intervenes, China Frees American Held Since 2015

A Houston woman detained by China in 2015 arrived back in the United States on Friday after the Trump administration negotiated for her release.

Phan Phan-Gillis, also knows as Sandy Phan-Gillis, had been charged as a spy, a claim she and her family denied. Although the Obama administration protested that charge in 2015, she was held until this week.

On Tuesday, the 57-year-old woman was tried and pronounced guilty, then deported to the United States on Friday without having to serve the three-year term to which she was sentenced.

The Dui Hua Foundation, a human rights organization, said Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had added his influence to the effort to free her.

“Negotiations to secure the release of Ms. Phan-Gillis intensified during Secretary Tillerson’s visit to Beijing in March,” the group said in a statement, adding that the Trump White House helped the State Department “in bringing the negotiations to a successful conclusion.”

Jeff Kamm, who founded Dui Hua, said the overtures President Donald Trump has made to Chinese leaders to improve relations between the two nations were a contributing factor in the release of Phan-Gillis.

“If U.S.-China relations were not going as well as they are right now, I think this outcome would have been different,” she said.

Her release was welcomed in her native Texas.

“I’m relieved that Sandy Phan-Gillis has been released and will soon be reunited with her loved ones in Houston,” said Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas. “The unlawful detention of an American citizen for more than two years with little to no explanation by Chinese authorities is shameful and unacceptable.”

“I applaud the State Department and thank President Trump for his leadership in securing Sandy’s release,” said Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who also criticized China for detaining her in the first place.

“It should be noted that Sandy’s purpose in visiting China two years ago was to strengthen commercial and cultural exchanges on behalf of the city of Houston. The Chinese government — cynically and to the astonishment of many — perceived this cultural bridge-builder as a threat. Sandy was unjustly deprived of her liberty for two years, time during which she was denied basic legal protections and her loved ones lacked accurate information about her condition,” Cruz said.

Jeff Gillis said his wife arrived in Los Angeles on Friday.

“Many of Sandy’s friends and family members have been crying tears of joy throughout the day,” he said in an email.

“Sandy was not allowed to speak with her lawyers for well over a year,” Gillis said, adding, “China State Security used torture to force Sandy to make a false confession.”
