Veteran broadcast journalist Ted Koppel has long railed against news shows that wear their politics on their sleeves. And on Sunday, he pulled no punches with Sean Hannity. In a tense exchange on CBS Sunday Morning, Koppel told the Fox News host and staunch supporter of President Trump that his brand of opinion-based journalism was harming the country.

The segment focused on the political divide in America and the role partisan news programming played in driving liberals and conservatives further apart. During a sit-down interview, Hannity called on Koppel to “give some credit” to people’s ability to differentiate between a news show and an opinion show.

“You’re cynical,” Hannity said.

“I am cynical,” Koppel responded.

“Do you think we’re bad for America? You think I’m bad for America?” Hannity asked.

Koppel didn’t miss a beat. “Yeah,” he said, and continued over multiple interruptions from Hannity:

Koppel: “In the long haul I think you and all these opinion shows —”

Hannity: “Really? That’s sad, Ted. That’s sad.”

Koppel: “No, you know why? Because you’re very good at what you do, and because you have attracted a significantly more influential —”

Hannity: “You are selling the American people short.”

Koppel: “No, let me finish the sentence before you do that.”

Hannity: “I’m listening. With all due respect. Take the floor.”

Koppel: “You have attracted people who are determined that ideology is more important than facts.”

After the segment aired, Hannity responded with a series of tweets calling the show “Fake Edited News” and accusing CBS of leaving out parts of his answers that discussed media bias. He asked CBS to release the raw recording of the interview, which he said ran about 45 minutes.

In the decade-plus since he stepped down as host of ABC’s “Nightline” after 25 years, Koppel has lamented a changing media landscape that he sayscelebrates the opinions of overtly partisan news hosts at the expense of neutral reporting. He has criticized journalists on the right and the left for biased coverage, particularly those at Fox News and its liberal-leaning rival MSNBC.

“The commercial success of both Fox News and MSNBC is a source of nonpartisan sadness for me. While I can appreciate the financial logic of drowning television viewers in a flood of opinions designed to confirm their own biases, the trend is not good for the republic,” Koppel wrote in a Washington Post column in 2010.

“Beginning, perhaps, from the reasonable perspective that absolute objectivity is unattainable, Fox News and MSNBC no longer even attempt it,” he said. “They show us the world not as it is, but as partisans (and loyal viewers) at either end of the political spectrum would like it to be. This is to journalism what Bernie Madoff was to investment: He told his customers what they wanted to hear, and by the time they learned the truth, their money was gone.”

In the same column, Koppel called then-MSNBC host Keith Olbermann the “most opinionated” among the network’s “left-leaning, Fox-baiting, money-generating hosts. More than a million viewers flocked to his nightly program because Olbermann was “unabashedly and monotonously partisan,” he said.

Koppel lumped MSNBC host Rachel Maddow into the same category, along with Glenn Beck, who was a Fox News host at the time.

He waded into the issue of media partisanship during the 2016 election as well. In a March 2016 appearance on Fox News’s “O’Reilly Factor”, Koppel scolded host Bill O’Reilly about the political debate surrounding then-candidate Trump, who had just triumphed in the Super Tuesday primaries. O’Reilly told Koppel he had interviewed Trump on many occasions. “Not an easy interview,” he said. “How would you do it?”

“It’s irrelevant how I would do it,” Koppel fired back. “And you know who made it irrelevant? You did.”

O’Reilly, seemingly unfazed, asked him to elaborate. And Koppel did — in an exchange not unlike his discussion with Hannity on Sunday.

“You have changed the television landscape over the past 20 years. You took it from being objective and dull to being subjective and entertaining,” Koppel told O’Reilly. “And in this current climate, it doesn’t matter what the interviewer asks him. Mr. Trump is going to say whatever he wants to say, as outrageous as it may be.”

A federal judge in Virginia ruled Friday against blocking President Trump’s executive order that called for temporarily stopping the entry of immigrants from six majority-Muslim nations and refugee admittance overall. The decision against the injunction comes after federal judges in Maryland and Hawaii blocked the implementation of Trump’s executive order nationwide. The ruling in Maryland is set to be heard before an appeals court in May. These two past decisions keep the order at bay.

Judge Anthony Trenga of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia found that Trump was within his legal rights to impose the travel ban and that it was not discriminatory toward Muslims. The injunction had been brought forward by Palestinian activist Linda Sarsour, who was represented by an attorney from the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Trenga, a George W. Bush appointee, wrote in his opinion that “the President has unqualified authority to bar physical entry to the United States at the border.” He said that the executive order makes no mention of religion and has a “state secular purpose” of protecting U.S. citizens from terrorist attacks.

The Hawaiian federal judge who knocked down the executive order cited past statements from Trump on the campaign trail talking about a “Muslim ban.” Judge Trenga, however, wrote, “In that regard, the Supreme Court has held that ‘past actions [do not] forever taint any effort on [the government’s] part to deal with the subject matter.’”

A Department of Justice spokeswoman said in a statement, “The Department of Justice is pleased with the ruling. As the Court correctly explains, the President’s Executive Order falls well within his authority to safeguard the nation’s security.”

The Associated Press reported that Sarsour’s attorney is expected to appeal the ruling.

NDP Refugee Welcome Basket / screenshot | Nebraska Democratic Party

The Nebraska Democratic Party is welcoming refugees with open arms, welcome baskets … and voter registration forms.

The inclusion of a voter registration form in a “welcome” gift basket designed for refugee families is eyebrow-raising. Individuals with refugee status in the United States are only allowed to naturalize after they spend a minimum of five years in the U.S. and obtain permanent residence (a green card). But presumably, individuals who accept a “welcome” basket are new arrivals to the U.S. and have not met the requirements to become citizens. They would be ineligible to register to vote. Unfortunately, these requirements do not always stop voter fraud from occurring

Reached for comment, NDP Chairwoman Kleeb categorically denied any wrongdoing, stressing that “it is not illegal to be handing out voter registration forms so folks start to get familiar with the forms.”

When asked what the NDP expects refugees will do with voter registration forms, Kleeb said “Once they become citizens, it is our hope, like back in the day you would hear these stories of the Democrats in Ellis Island welcoming the Irish with food and a voter registration form, so it’s really that same concept.”

“We also just wanted them to know – the letter is from me as chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party – that they are welcomed in our state and that they can come to our events, and that we have an active Facebook page.”

“I put in my business card in those letters, and a bumper sticker for their cars just to make sure they knew that we, as the Democratic Party, welcomed them,” she added.

According to Kleeb, the purpose of sending voter registration forms to newly arrived refugees was so “they start to get familiar with democracy and how you become a voter in our country.”

“I registered individuals from Somalia and Sudan this election cycle that have recently become citizens, and this is a very new process for them. We had to sit down with them and really help them understand how to fill out their name and where to put in their birthdate because it’s just a whole new process for them than what they had in their home country,” Kleeb said.

When asked if the letter signed by Chairwoman Kleeb made clear that any non-citizen refugee who received the voter registration form would break the law by completing and submitting that form, Kleeb replied “I can look at our letter, I’m not sure I said, you know, ‘you have to fill out this form.’”

“Can I just be very clear that on the voter registration form it says that you have to be a U.S. citizen, so I don’t think that I said that in the letter, but on the voter registration form it talks about that,” she clarified.

Conservative Review requested a copy of the letter from the chairwoman, but did not receive it before publication. Advising a non-citizen to file a voter registration form would potentially violate Nebraska election law. There is no evidence to suggest that the Nebraska Democratic Party or its chairwoman violated the law.

According to Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale (R), anyone ”who purposely states a falsehood under oath, lawfully administered or in a statement made under penalty of election falsification ‘including a statement required for verifying or filing a voter registration application’, among other things, would be subject to a Class IV felony/ This would include a false statement that the person is a citizen of the United States. ( NE Rev 32-1502 ).”

“At the same time, under NE Rev 32-1503, subsection 11, any person who would aid, counsel, procure or advise any person to do any act forbidden by this section or to omit to do any act by law directed to be done shall be guilty of a Class IV felony,” he told CR in a statement.

A person guilty of committing a Class IV felony in Nebraska is subject up to a maximum two years imprisonment and twelve months post-release supervision and/or a ten thousand dollar fine.

Despite the Nebraska Democratic Party’s attempts to “familiarize” refugees with voter registration forms, the refugees who ultimately receive the donated supplies probably will not receive the voter registration forms.

According to Amelia Rosser, the Interim Assistant Director for the Refugee Empowerment Center, the items donated in each welcome basket will be sorted in the center’s donation area, then distributed to refugee families and those seeking help from the Refugee Empowerment Center based on need. When asked about the presence of voter registration forms in the donated baskets, Rosser said she “could neither confirm, nor deny” their inclusion, adding that “the voter registration cards would not be distributed” to refugees that had just arrived in the United States.

“As we will be sorting the donations, to be putting them to their like supplies that we have, to be given out to refugees based upon need, the voter registration cards would not likely be distributed,” Rosser said.

What the Nebraska Democratic Party has done with these welcome baskets is not illegal, but it may seem unusual, perhaps even improper. During her interview with CR, Chairwoman Kleeb was defensive and hostile at times, noting the “pretty right wing” views of CR Senior Editor Michelle Malkin. Kleeb told CR she thought it was “shameful” that “you guys are trying to make something like this into something bad.”

Reported by James Rosen| Published March 23, 2017 | FoxNews.com

URL of the original posting site: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/03/23/potential-smoking-gun-showing-obama-administration-spied-on-trump-team-source-says.html

Republican congressional investigators expect a potential “smoking gun” establishing that the Obama administration spied on the Trump transition team, and possibly the president-elect himself, will be produced to the House Intelligence Committee this week, a source told Fox News.

Classified intelligence showing incidental collection of Trump team communications, purportedly seen by committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., and described by him in vague terms at a bombshell Wednesday afternoon news conference, came from multiple sources, Capitol Hill sources told Fox News. The intelligence corroborated information about surveillance of the Trump team that was known to Nunes, sources said, even before President Trump accused his predecessor of having wiretapped him in a series of now-infamous tweets posted on March 4.

The intelligence is said to leave no doubt the Obama administration, in its closing days, was using the cover of legitimate surveillance on foreign targets to spy on President-elect Trump, according to sources. The key to that conclusion is the unmasking of selected U.S. persons whose names appeared in the intelligence, the sources said, adding that the paper trail leaves no other plausible purpose for the unmasking other than to damage the incoming Trump administration.

The FBI hasn’t been responsive to the House Intelligence Committee’s request for documents, but the National Security Agency is expected to produce documents to the committee by Friday. The NSA document production is expected to produce more intelligence than Nunes has so far seen or described – including what one source described as a potential “smoking gun” establishing the spying.

Some time will be needed to properly assess the materials, with the likely result being that congressional investigators and attorneys won’t have a solid handle on the contents of the documents – and their implications – until next week.

Because Nunes’s intelligence came from multiple sources during a span of several weeks, and he has not shared the actual materials with his committee colleagues, he will be the only member of the panel in a position to know whether the NSA has turned over some or all of the intelligence he is citing. However, Fox News was told Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., had been briefed on the basic contents of the intelligence described by Nunes.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo is also sympathetic to the effort to determine, with documentary evidence, the extent of any alleged Obama administration spying on the Trump team, sources said. At a dramatic Wednesday news conference, Nunes claimed to have seen evidence that members of the Trump transition team, possibly including the president-elect, were subjected to “incidental surveillance” collection that Nunes characterized as legal but troubling.

“What I’ve read bothers me,” he told reporters, “and I think it should bother the president himself, and his team because I think some of it seems to be inappropriate.”

Schiff blasted Nunes for not coming first to the Intelligence Committee with the information.

“If accurate, this information should have been shared with members of the committee, but it has not been,” Schiff said in a Wednesday statement.

The Trump administration gave the Keystone XL pipeline its key federal permit Friday, clearing a major hurdle for the project that former President Obama rejected in 2015. The State Department announced Friday morning that its undersecretary for political affairs, Tom Shannon, issued the permit, two months after President Trump signed a memorandum to revive the project after Obama’s rejection.

“In making his determination that issuance of this permit would serve the national interest, the under secretary considered a range of factors, including but not limited to foreign policy; energy security; environmental, cultural, and economic impacts; and compliance with applicable law and policy,” State said.

The decision closes a significant chapter in the long-running saga over the controversial oil sands pipeline, which has been a flashpoint in the debate surrounding climate change and dependence on foreign oil. Obama rejected the application in November 2015, arguing, in part, that it would harm the United States’ standing in the world as a leader in fighting climate change.

Ultimately, if we’re going to prevent large parts of this Earth from becoming not only inhospitable but uninhabitable in our lifetimes, we’re going to have to keep some fossil fuels in the ground rather than burn them and release more dangerous pollution into the sky,” he said at the time.

The approval fulfills a major campaign promise of Trump’s and a top priority that congressional Republicans and the oil industry have had for years.

“This is a significant milestone for the Keystone XL project,” Russ Girling, president of Keystone’s developer, Canada-based TransCanada Corp., said in a statement. “We greatly appreciate President Trump’s Administration for reviewing and approving this important initiative and we look forward to working with them as we continue to invest in and strengthen North America’s energy infrastructure.”

The 875-mile line would carry up to 830,000 barrels a day of heavy oil sands petroleum from Alberta, Canada, to Nebraska. From there, the oil would continue through existing lines to the Gulf Coast to be refined.

Despite the president’s promises, the $8 billion project is not subject to Trump’s promise that oil pipelines built in the United States would have to use American steel. The White House announced earlier this month that that would only apply to pipelines with new applications. TransCanada has already bought the pipe for the project. About half came from an Arkansas plant owned by an Indian company, a quarter from a plant in Canada owned by a Russian company and the remainder from Italy and India.

TransCanada needed a presidential permit to build the line because it is planned to cross an international border. The company first started applying to build Keystone XL in 2008. But in the ensuing years, it became a central point in the debate between weaning the United States off fossil fuels and increasing the use of energy from friendly allies.

Trump’s permit is not the final hurdle for the project. State officials in Nebraska still have to approve the line’s route through that state, something that could take another six months.

Environmentalists might also sue to stop the construction.

“The Keystone XL tar sands pipeline was a terrible idea when it was first proposed nearly ten years ago, and it’s an even worse idea today. This dirty and dangerous export pipeline would run right through America’s heartland, threatening our water, our land, and our climate — all to pad the profits of a foreign oil company,” said Tiernan Sittenfeld, senior vice president of government affairs at the League of Conservation Voters.

“This pipeline is all risk and no reward, and we will continue to fight it every step of the way,” she said.

The business community welcomed the approval.

“After many years of unfortunate delays and partisan posturing, Keystone XL pipeline finally got the green light it has long deserved,” U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Thomas Donohue said in a statement. “This pipeline, and countless other projects around the nation, will improve America’s energy security, create jobs, and help get the economy back on track.”

The State Department previous estimated that the project would create 42,100 jobs. The vast majority of them would be temporary jobs related to Keystone’s construction, and about 35 would be permanent jobs operating it. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson would usually have been in charge of considering the permit. But he recused himself from the process, due to his previous position as the CEO of Exxon Mobil Corp., the country’s largest oil company.

We Have Now Hit Full-On Crazy

Liberals are ecstatic that a judge in Hawaii is writing immigration policy for the entire country, and that policy is: We have no right to tell anyone that he can’t live in America. (Unless they’re Christians — those guys we can keep out.)

As subtly alluded to in the subtitle of “Adios, America: The Left’s Plan to Turn Our Country Into a Third-World Hellhole,” the goal of liberals is for the poor of the world to have a constitutional right to come here whenever they want.

I can’t help but notice that the Third Worlders aren’t moving to liberals’ neighborhoods.

After nearly 1 million Rwandans were murdered by other Rwandans in 1994, our government asked itself: Why not bring more of this fascinating Rwandan culture to America? Ten thousand of them poured in. So far, nearly 400 have been convicted in the United States of lying on visa applications about their role in the genocide.

And that’s why we have to tighten our belt, America! Massive international investigations don’t come cheap.

Almost every immigration case is a con, something we find out every time there’s a San Bernardino shooting and half the family turns out to have scammed our immigration officials. One hundred percent of the “humanitarian” cases are frauds.

Earlier this month, Rwanda’s Gervais Ngombwa was convicted for lying on his immigration application by claiming to have been a victim of the 1994 genocide. In fact, he was a well-known perpetrator — even featured in Rwandan newspaper articles as a leader of the genocide.

For most of the last two decades, Ngombwa has been living in Iowa with his wife and eight children in a house built by Habitat for Humanity — because no Americans need houses. He came to the authorities’ attention a couple years ago by setting that house on fire after a domestic dispute, then filing a fraudulent $75,000 insurance claim.

Another Rwandan genocidalist living in America was featured in “Adios, America”: Beatrice Munyenyezi, granted refugee status as an alleged victim of the genocide, even though she, too, had helped orchestrate it.

Munyenyezi was living safely in Kenya when she applied for a refugee visa to America. The welfare is way better here. And, luckily for us, she had a “chronic medical condition” that required constant attention from a New Hampshire hospital.

Hesham Mohamed Hadayet arrived in the U.S. on a tourist visa, then immediately applied for “asylum” on the grounds that he was persecuted in Egypt — for being a member of an Islamic terrorist group.

Being a member of a noted terrorist group cannot be used to block you from coming to America, thanks to Barney Frank’s 1989 amendment to the Immigration and Nationality Act, because liberals love this country so very, very much. Being a talented neurosurgeon from Switzerland, however, is disqualifying.

Hadayet’s refugee application wasn’t denied until he’d already been living here for three years. When he was called in for a visa overstay hearing, he didn’t show up, and the INS didn’t bother looking for him. After allowing Hadayet to mill about America for another year, our government granted him permanent residency and a work permit.

On the Fourth of July following the 9/11 attack, Hadayet shot up the El Al ticket counter at the Los Angeles International Airport. I guess the Egyptians were right!

As bodies were being cleared away from the ticket counter, including Hadayet’s, his wife blamed America for the attack, denying her husband had anything to do with it. “He is a victim of injustice,” she explained. “In America, they hate Islam and Arabs after Sept. 11.”

At least immigrants are grateful.

Immigration bureaucrats are so determined to transform America without anyone seeing what they’re doing that the INS initially refused to release Hadayet’s file to congressional investigators, in order to protect his “privacy.”

Of course, anybody could miss Egypt’s designating someone a terrorist. And maybe the INS’s test for Rwandan “refugees” is: Would this person be able to convince Rolling Stone magazine that “Haven Monahan” raped her?

How about Rasmea Yousef Odeh? She waltzed into America after having been convicted and imprisoned in Israel for a supermarket bombing that left two Hebrew University students dead, and also for the attempted bombing of the British consulate in Israel.

She was released in a prisoner exchange — whereupon Odeh made a beeline for the U.S.

True, Odeh wasn’t subjected to the Inquisition-like vetting accorded the humanitarian cases, like the Boston Marathon bombers (we were warned by Russia), Hadayet (we were warned by Egypt) or the Blind Sheik (same).

But how did our immigration authorities miss a CONVICTION FOR BOMBING IN ISRAEL?

Apart from the terrorism, welfare and fraud, what great things did any of them do for our country?

Ngombwa was a custodian at the Cedar Rapids Community School District in Iowa, a job that, evidently, no American would do. Munyenyezi had a job as an advocate for refugees — just one of the many jobs being created by immigrants. Hadayet ran a failing limousine company and was $10,000 in debt. Odeh was an unemployed waitress and a Palestinian grievance activist. Recently, she’s been heavily involved in anti-Trump, anti-white male protests, because who doesn’t like incessant Third World unrest?

In 1960, 75 percent of the foreign-born in America were from Europe. Today only about 10 percent are. More than a third of all post-Teddy Kennedy act immigrants — not just the wretched humanitarian cases — don’t even have a high school diploma.

What is the affirmative case for this? How is it making America better? Improving the schools? The job market? Crime? The likelihood of terrorism?

Can the liberals doing cartwheels over a district judge’s announcement that everyone in the world has a right to come here (except Europeans and Christians), give us the cost-benefit analysis they’re using? Twenty million Third World immigrants give us ( ) terrorists, ( ) welfare recipients, ( ) uncompensated medical costs, ( ) discrimination lawsuits, but it’s all worth it because ( )?

Commentary by  Ann Coulter

The more hysterical liberals become about Russia, the more your antennae should go up. Their selective misgivings with Russia are just like their selective alarm with (our ally) Chiang Kai-shek, leader of the nationalist Chinese government, and (our ally) Ngo Dinh Diem, president of South Vietnam.

As explained in lavish detail in Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on Terrorism, liberals instinctively lunge toward treason. They say Putin is a “thug” and a “bully” who kills journalists. Liberals never used to mind Russian leaders killing journalists. Nor millions of scientists, writers, Christians, Jews, kulaks, Ukrainians and so on.

Have you guys heard of the Evil Empire? Now Democrats are hypersensitive to a Russian leader’s flaws?

Liberals were cool with the show trials, the alliance with Hitler, the gulags, the forced starvations, the shooting down of American planes and goose-stepping through Eastern Europe. But that was when the Russian leader was Joseph Stalin or Nikita Khrushchev — not the beast Putin!

Back then, liberals were spying for Stalin (Julius Rosenberg’s code name: “Liberal”), the U.S. president was calling the bloodthirsty dictator “Uncle Joe,” and The New York Times was covering up Stalin’s infamous crimes. In the storied history of fake news, the Times’ Walter Duranty won a Pulitzer Prize for his false reports denying the Ukrainian famine, in which more than 7 million people were deliberately starved to death.

As far as the Times is concerned, those were Russia’s halcyon days!

Back when Russia was actually threatening America with nuclear annihilation, Jimmy Carter warned Americans about their “inordinate fear of communism.” Sting sang that “the Russians love their children, too.” But now liberals are hopping mad with Putin. They could never forgive Russia for giving up communism.

To add insult to injury, Putin embraced the Russian Orthodox Church! This was deeply offensive to fiercely Christophobic liberals.

Russia’s descent into insanity and madness was clear when Putin refused to allow LGBTQ marches through Red Square. For having the same position on gays as Obama did, circa 2008, Russkies were walking on the fighting side of liberals!

Trump’s election victory was the capstone of the left’s rage with Putin. To explain the inexplicable, Putin was made the center of liberals’ axis of evil, the mastermind of a malevolent plot to steal the election from Hillary Clinton. That’s how liberals became born-again John Birchers, seeing Russians under every bed. Now, no fear of Russia is inordinate. The Russians do NOT love their children, too.

We really could have used some of this fighting spirit about 50 years ago when the Soviet Union sought total world domination and Stalin’s spies were crawling through the U.S. government. But back then, liberals were blackening the names of Whittaker Chambers, Richard Nixon and Sen. Joe McCarthy. (Later proved 100 percent correct by the top-secret Venona Project.)

Russia’s loss of the left’s esteem happened very quickly. In 2008, The New York Times editorial page demanded that Obama “signal to the Russians that he wants better relations,” and complained of the “alarming” deterioration of “Russian-American relations” under Bush.

It was considered the height of statesmanship when Obama was caught on a hot-mic in 2012, telling Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, “This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility. I understand you.”

To hoots of laughter at the Democratic National Convention, Obama said: “You don’t call Russia our number one enemy — not Al-Qaida, Russia — unless you’re still stuck in a Cold War mind warp.”

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow couldn’t contain her hilarity over the GOP offering “an extra bonus of threatening Russia.”

But today, Democrats (and two especially showboating Republicans) are horrified that Trump wants to get along with Russia. Tonight, the threatening evil of Vladamir Putin will be the top issue on Rachel Maddow’s show, assuming she still has a show. (Maybe she can get a copy of Putin’s tax returns!)

When the same people who hailed Stalin as a beloved American ally are happy to threaten Putin with thermonuclear war, we may deduce that the left’s newfound Russia-phobia has some seditious objective. Historically, liberals show their manliness by demanding war with our friends and allies, while methodically undermining America’s ability to fight the wars it’s already in.

The No. 1 enemy of Western civilization today isn’t non-communist Russia. It’s Islam.

And who is a key ally in that fight? Russia has been dealing with these troublesome Muslims for centuries. It was Russian officials who tried in vain to warn our blind, incompetent government about the Boston Marathon bombers.

The left’s hysteria about Russia isn’t just an attempt to delegitimize Trump. It’s the usual Christophobic fifth column rooting for the Islamization of the West.

Hey James, are you ready to put your accuracy record up against Wikileaks?

Comey stood up and said that emails on Republicans were not released during 2016.

rethink-move-son

He’s being called out as a liar. And Wikileaks is offering proof. And whatever you think of Wikileaks’ practices — they’ve not been proven wrong yet.

Comey, on the other hand, has been SPECTACULARLY wrong.

When you follow that link, you’ll see something that looks like this:

And if you look WAAAAAY up in the top corner, you’ll see this:

Don’t take our word for it. There’s a lot of fake news out there. Follow the link yourself. Either the one in the tweet, or (if you prefer) this one here. And then decide for yourself which one is fake.

Does anyone know whether someone in Comey’s position is permitted to lie to Congress?

The Question WE would love to get to the bottom of is this: Is Comey that Arrogantly dishonest?  Or is he a superior breed of incompetent?  Or is he actually Corrupt?

We’ve heard Trump throw red meat to his rallies… “Who will pay for it?” But were ANY of his critics expecting this plot twist?

Mario Burgos owns the Albuquerque-based professional services firm, Burgos Group. He is just one of about 60 Hispanic business owners who are now bidding for contracts with the federal government as it seeks to fulfill Trump’s campaign promise to build a wall. Burgos conducts business in seven states and employs around 120 people, according to CNN.

But Burgos isn’t the only Hispanic business owner looking to take advantage of the president’s proposal. About 600 private businesses have tossed their names into the hat, in hopes of landing one of the lucrative deals. Of the 600 companies, about 60 — or 10 percent — are Hispanic-owned.

“It’s not an anti-immigrant thing for me,” Burgos told CNN. “It’s about creating jobs. And honestly [it’s] like any other job.” —Blaze

Which brings up a good question. When did Liberals start opposing infrastructure jobs? And how do their UNION backers feel about it? Well, maybe the collapse that ‘Blue Wall’ in the Electoral College settles that question. But that doesn’t stop Democrat knee-jerk opposition to all things Republican.

What next? Will Democrats try to shut down the government just to oppose the wall? Actually, they MIGHT! But THAT would be EVIL. And HEARTLESS. (We know this because that’s what they called Republicans when REPUBLICANS wanted to shut down the government.)

That tells us one of two things. Either they are lying, opportunistic pieces of something unprintableOr… They THEMSELVES were the evil ones all along.

Come to think of it, these options are NOT mutually exclusive.

That. Was. Amazing.

yes

It’s a matter of what is considered life. And that’s the discussion the Left refuses to have. Because it’s so much easier to justify removing a ‘clump of cells’ that is in the woman’s body than recognizing the innocent life that is dependent on the woman for continuing to exist. That would make abortion the same as murder. Which is the position that the Pro-Lifers take.

It’s funny that it was progressive Dr. Seuss — who filled his books with political messages — that captured the Pro-Life position so simply and beautifully: ‘Even though you can’t see them at all, a person’s a person no matter how small.’

If you don’t get it, go back and read ‘Horton Hears A Who’.

fascism

In the case of President Donald Trump, it seems that his opponents are relying only on their unhealthy obsession with history’s greatest villains to defame the leader of the free world.

As with any other enemy of the left, Trump is apparently Hitler.  This is the same ridiculous and tired argument that liberals and democrats make every single time they disagree with a republican politician.  If the accusations weren’t so completely predictable, they could possibly carry some weight, but the fact that calling someone “Hitler” in the leftists’ nuclear option, you’d think they’d save it for more important battles.

But, no.  The left is completely happy attempting, over and over again, to tag Trump as a fascist, with no other argument other than their pathetic name-calling.

Now, one teacher in New York State has taken the unacceptable name-calling of our President to the next level, and is indoctrinating her 10th grade students with an absurdly biased curriculum.

“A tenth grade teacher at Saratoga Springs High School led a discussion on the rise of fascism during World War Two by referencing President Trump.

‘“It’s total indoctrination,’ said Melissa, the parent who contacted me. She asked that I not use her last name. ‘It’s not their place to indoctrinate our children. It’s their job to teach the facts. Healthy debate is one thing but this definitely crossed the line.’

“The entire lesson plan was posted on the school district’s website. But once I started poking around and asking questions, the lesson was hidden behind a password protected wall.

“’Trump has absolutely no relation to World War Two. There’s no reason why he should be included with Stalin, Mussolini or Hitler,’ the mom said. They are trying to link him to the leaders of that time. That crosses a line.’

“Another graphics listed ‘early warning signs of fascism’:

“·      Nationalism

·      Obession with national security

·      Religion and government intertwined

·      Rampant sexism

·      Fraudulent elections

·      Obsession with crime and punishment”

Of course, the absurdity of these claims determines that they will be easily dismissed by level-headed adults.  The true issue here, as one parent put it, is the indoctrination of our youth into these haphazard patterns of thought.  These malleable teens should be coaxed into forming their own opinions about the world around them and the nation that they live in.  They should never be forced into one pattern of thought just because that pattern syncs up with the delusions of their teachers.

Washington, D.C. has reversed its thinking on the seriousness of federal government leaks with President Donald Trump in the White House. Leaks of classified federal information are now treated as not a big deal — so long as they are damaging to Trump. Damaging leaks of classified information seem to be the preferred way to pry information from Trump, a Republican, no matter the slippery slope that federal workers head down when they unleash the documents.

A transcript of the president’s call to a foreign leader? No problem. Unmasking the name of an American citizen as he spoke to the Russian ambassador? That sounds fine to many. So long as it zings Trump.

In the previous decade, Democrats demanded prosecution of leakers of classified information, and with gusto.

In fact, the last time the Republicans held the White House, the Democrats and media built a witch hunt around a journalist’s news column. The goal was to embarrass the administration of President George W. Bush.

The Plame Affair

On July 14, 2003, columnist Robert Novak revealed that an Iraq War critic, Ambassador Joseph Wilson, had traveled to Africa in February 2002 to look into claims Iraq was buying yellowcake uranium from Niger.

It was a complicated tale of the buildup to the war, but Novak got into trouble for this sentence: “Wilson never worked for the CIA, but his wife, Valerie Plame, is an agency operative on weapons of mass destruction. Two senior administration officials told me that Wilson’s wife suggested sending him to Niger to investigate.”

David Corn, a left-wing journalist now with Mother Jones, insisted the law had been broken in the leak to Novak. The political drumbeat began, the CIA asked for action, and in September 2003, President Bush and his attorney general named a prosecutor. The investigation took two long years. As the indictment came, liberals could barely contain their glee. Some hoped for Bush’s Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove to be “frog-marched” to court.

And Lawrence O’Donnell, now with MSNBC, made an infamous whiff of a prediction: “[A]t least three high-level Bush Administration personnel indicted and possibly one or more very high level unindicted co-conspirators.”

But no one was indicted for the leak itself. Scooter Libby, chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was indicted for misleading federal investigators in 2007. Perhaps realizing the political nature of the case, President Bush commuted Libby’s sentence.

New Standards in 2017: Fast-forward to February 2017.

Michael Flynn, Trump’s national security adviser, resigned on Feb. 13 because it was disclosed in leaks that he spoke with the Russian ambassador in late December. Flynn had told Vice President Mike Pence that he did not mention sanctions on Russia. The leaks were detailed enough to prove that wrong. The amount of effort that went into the leak was prodigious, according to a Republican staffer on Capitol Hill who works in intelligence.

The leaker would have not only have to have access to the transcripts of the Russian ambassador, but power to “unmask” Flynn, who would have been initially protected by U.S. law.

The seriousness of the leaks involving Flynn helped build tremendous disappointment on Monday, when FBI Director James Comey, acting oddly as usual, said he could not even confirm an investigation into the leaks.

A former intelligence operative told LifeZette that the leaks of Flynn’s name show possible political intent, from the start of the intel gathering all the way through. The former intel operative says he wonders who at the FBI or the National Security Agency received emails or calls from the National Security Council or the White House about the Flynn meeting. The former intel operative says normally, any intelligence professional, especially a manager, would recognize that the collection of Flynn’s data, even in the incidental fashion as they followed the Russian ambassador, would be so laced with political danger to their agency that they would “run away” from it. Or they would notify the relevant oversight committees at Congress, to protect everyone concerned.

Instead, the information got leaked to the media, to damage Flynn.

What if the shoe had been on the other foot?

What if, the former intel operative wondered, the Bush administration’s National Security Council had received incidental collection on the Obama campaign in late 2008, and not informed the congressional oversight committees?

There would be hell to pay, he said.

So what is the media doing in 2017? They are asking for more leaks of classified documents. Some newspapers have even set up anonymous online “dropboxes.” And the Democrats? They are nowhere to be seen on the issue.

For some people, the heated polarization of last year’s presidential election is far from over. One business owner in Chicago is even proclaiming her personal beliefs have put her out of business — and are the reason she’s been ostracized within her community.

Suzzanne Monk, who owns Worlds of Music with her husband, penned a recent letter to Crain’s Chicago Business about her experiences as a business owner since being “outed” as a Donald Trump voter.

“For 24 years, I have loved living in Chicago with my husband, a native Chicagoan,” Monk’s letter reads. “But for the last year I have not loved living in Chicago. I am ashamed of you, Chicago, and the intolerance you now accept in the name of politics. You see, I am a Trump supporter. My husband is a Trump supporter, too. And because we support Trump, we no longer feel proud, or safe, being in this city.”

She continued, “From the constant protests blocking roads and businesses, to the attacks on Trump supporters, to the verbal and online bullying going on every day across this city, Chicago, you have made it quite clear that Trump supporters are not welcome. When my fellow Chicagoans praised the riot at UIC that shut down the Chicago Trump rally I attended, I was angry and ashamed.”

Monk and her husband will be closing their store and moving it completely online at the end of April. They will also be leaving Chicago in the near future. The two have set up a GoFundMe page seeking help for their store — as of now, they’ve raised over half of their asking price: $30,000.

Monk revealed in an interview with DNA Info that a Facebook discussion with someone outed her politics — and since then, she’s been forced to make police reports about the anonymous threats against her business.

“We hope nobody fire bombs your business, that would be too bad,” was one of the threats, according to Monk. “The worst of it has been we’ve had musicians [who said they were] told not to support us, or they would be ostracized.”

Small-business owners are not the only ones facing pressure over their voting decisions in the presidential race. Both the Los Angeles Times and The Hollywood Reporter have run recent stories on the backlash Trump voters have received within Hollywood’s artistic community.

“It used to be we could have a conversation with two opposing points of view and it would be amiable. At the end, we still walked away and had lunch together,” “Jurassic Park” and producer Gerald Molen told the LA Times.

Novelist and screenwriter Andrew Klavan was blunt in telling the paper about the impacts of being a Trump supporter as a professional artist. “I feel absolutely it has harmed me professionally,” he said, revealing that producers have “called my agent asking, ‘Why would you represent this guy?’ Anything that lowers your odds is going to hurt.”

Filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza (“Hillary’s America”) said the entertainment business is under “Trump derangement syndrome.” He said Hollywood “is up in arms. That probably doesn’t bode well for any conservatives in the industry, especially the ones who are outspoken about Trump.”

Actor and comedian Tim Allen also revealed in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel last week that conservatives and Trump supporters are afraid to speak up in Hollywood. “You’ve gotta be real careful around here. You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody believes,” the “Last Man Standing” star said.

Allen continued, “This is like ’30s Germany. I don’t know what happened.”

At least one artist is known to have lost a job due to perceived support of the president. After singer Chrisette Michele agreed to perform at an inauguration event — though she admitted she was not a Trump voter — director Spike Lee (“Do the Right Thing”) openly admitted to dropping one of her songs from consideration for an upcoming soundtrack.

“Good Morning Folks. I Wuz Sorry To Read That ‘Sistuh Girl’ Is Singin’ At DT’s Inauguration (And To Use His Fav Word-SAD). I Wuz Thinkin’ ’bout Using Chrisette’s Song- ‘BLACK GIRL MAGIC’ In My Netflix Series ‘SHE’S GOTTA HAVE IT’…. NOT ANYMORE. And Dat’s Da Truth, Ruth,” Lee wrote on Instagram.

Business owner Monk sees the blanket aggression from the Left as misplaced.

“It’s OK to hate the candidate; it’s not OK to hate the people who voted,” she said. “I hope we can get back to civil culture again.”

URL of the original posting site: http://www.lifezette.com/polizette/the-five-dumbest-questions-put-to-gorsuch/

In addition to the physically taxing experience of sitting through more than 10 hours of interrogation at his Senate confirmation hearing Tuesday, Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch had to endure many questions that were silly or downright dumb.

Such is the price to be paid for a lifetime appointment to one of the nation’s most powerful positions.

The queries ranged from gotcha questions about cases that Gorsuch could not possibly answer to the repetitive — there are only so many different ways the appeals court judge could give a response to a question about a trucker’s lawsuit — to attempts to smear the nominee with the words of other people.

Gorsuch’s supporters gave his performance a thumbs up. Leonard Leo, an adviser to President Donald Trump who is on leave from the Federalist Society, argued that Gorsuch should easily clear the 60-vote threshold to avoid a possible filibuster.

“If the Democrats won’t give the president 60 votes for Neil Gorsuch, then there is no Republican Supreme Court nominee they will ever support,” he said in a prepared statement.

Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee might come to a different conclusion. Based on suggestions from legal scholars and conservative political activists, here are some of the dumbest questions senators asked:

The questioner: Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.).

The issue: Durbin employed a classic guilt-by-association tactic by confronting Gorsuch with controversial statements made by people he has worked with over the years. He noted that retired Oxford University professor John Finnis, who was Gorsuch’s dissertation supervisor, wrote in 2009 that the English people had “largely given up … bearing children at a rate consistent with their community’s medium-term survival” and that it was causing its “own replacement as a people” and that European countries in the 21st century were on a “trajectory of demographic and cultural decay.”

The question: “Do you feel that what Professor Finnis wrote about purity of culture and such is something that we should condemn or congratulate?”

The answer: Gorsuch said he would want to read the entire writing and not just hear excerpts before passing judgment. “And Senator, I’ve had a lot of professors,” he said. “I’ve been blessed with some wonderful professors. And I didn’t agree with everything they’ve said, and I wouldn’t expect them to agree with everything I’ve said.”

The questioner: Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.).

The issue: Klobuchar pressed Gorsuch about his views on originalism, a concept in which judges adhere to the strict meaning of the Constitution when it was written.

The question:So when the Constitution refers, like, 30-some times to ‘his’ or ‘he’ when describing the president of the United States,  you would see that as, well back then, they thought a woman actually could be president of the United States even though women couldn’t vote?”

The answer: “I’m not looking to take us back to quill pens and horses … Of course women can be president of the United States. I’m the father of two daughters. And I hope one of them turns out to be president.” In response to a similar question about the Air Force, which did not exist at the time of the Constitutional convention, he said, “Senator, I think the generals of the Air Force can rest easy.”

The questioner: Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.).

The issue: So-called “dark money” in politics, which followed the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision that struck down limits on political spending by independent groups that were not connected to candidates. Whitehouse took umbrage to Gorsuch’s suggestion that the ruling does not mean the court was inserting itself into politics.

The question: “Do you really think that a Supreme Court that decided Citizens United doesn’t get involved in politics?” He followed up:

The answer: Gorsuch explained that Congress had broad authority to pass further laws on campaign finance. Lawmakers could impose new requirements that outside groups disclose donors, for instance. “Senator, I think every justice on the Supreme Court of the United States is a remarkable person trying their level best to apply the law, faithfully.”

The questioner: Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.).

The issue: Gorsuch’s by now well-known dissent in the TransAm Trucking v. Administrative Review Board case. The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last year that the company had to rehire a trucker who had been fired for leaving a malfunctioning rig in freezing weather. Several senators have browbeat the nominee already for his dissent, but Franken couldn’t resist taking another pass Tuesday.

The question: Referring to testimony that the driver was suffering hypothermia and that the brakes were failing, the senator said, “I don’t think you’d want to be on the road with him, would you, Judge?”

The answer: Gorsuch said he does not blame the driver for doing what he did and added that he empathizes with him but explained — again — that his dissent was based on the language of the statute, which protected a worker from dismissal for refusal to operate an unsafe vehicle. But the driver did operate the truck, he said. Gorsuch also explained that Franken incorrectly described the doctrine of absurdity, which the senator had argued allowed for a departure from applying the statute as literally written. The judge said that neither side in the case even raised that issue. “And it usually applies when there’s a scrivener’s error, not when we just disagree with the policy or the statute,” he said.

The questioner: Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.).

The issue: More guilt by association. Franken referred to comments by White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus at the Conservative Political Action Conference that Gorsuch could mean the “change of potentially 40 years of law.” At the same conference, White House strategist Stephen Bannon contended that the administration’s goal was the “deconstruction of the administrative state.”

The question: “What do you think that Mr. Priebus was talking about? Do you think he was saying that you’d be in a position to shape the court’s decisions for 40 years? Or was he suggesting that you could reach back 40 years?” About Bannon, he asked if the comments applied only to Cabinet nominees.

The answer: Gorsuch said he could not speak for others. “Respectfully, Senator, Mr. Priebus doesn’t speak for me, and I don’t speak for him,” he said. He had a similar to response to the Bannon question: “Respectfully, that’s a question best posed to Mr. Bannon.”

It turns out that President Trump’s transition team may have been surveilled after all.

Politico reports, “Members of the Donald Trump transition team, possibly including Trump himself, were under surveillance during the Obama administration following November’s election, House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes told reporters Wednesday.”

Rep. Nunes, R-Calif., said that “sources” informed him of possible surveillance that appears to have been legal and unrelated to the Trump-Russia collusion theories.

Politico’s Eric Geller provided more details from the Nunes press conference.

Will we see an apology from the media elites for mockingly dismissing the questions Mark Levin has raised for weeks, as mere conspiracy theories”?

Brexit

As the United States continues its descent into a wildly liberal hell in which the freedom of speech is being constantly eroded, Britain has taken a massive step in the right direction.

With the recent passage of the so-called “Brexit” bill, Britain is set to remove itself from the globalist-modeled European Union and the constraints of their oppressive regime.  With that move, Britain can now focus on their sovereignty and their citizens’ rights…including free speech.

“In a move that could have wide-reaching implications on U.K. campuses, British universities will be instructed to uphold freedom of speech as a ‘legal duty.’

“Jo Johnson, British Minister of State for Universities and Science has written to universities informing them that they will be expected to uphold free speech for their students, faculty, and visiting guests. The move is being described as a response to the rise of ‘safe spaces’ and other forms of censorship in higher education.

“According to Johnson, this means that the use of universities facilities cannot be ‘denied to any individual or body on any grounds connected with their beliefs or views, policy or objective.’

“’As part of this, the government proposes to raise the issue of freedom of speech, with a view to ensuring that a principle underscoring the importance of free speech in higher education is given due consideration,’ Johnson wrote.”

Brexit has been a flashpoint for the history of the European Union, with referendums being introduced in several countries who could possibly be vying for their freedom in the next few years.

Guns

Great news on the accidental injury/death front! The National Safety Council’s 2017 Edition of their Injury Facts report found that accidental gun deaths had dropped to their lowest numbers since records started being kept in 1903!

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) published figures from the report, showing that “fatal firearms accidents dropped 17 percent from 2014 to 2015 to 489.” Moreover, the figure of 489 accidental firearm deaths is so low, relatively speaking, that it represents “about three-tenths of 1 percent of the 146,571 total accidental deaths from all other listed causes.”

Read it again and think about it — the number of accidental gun deaths in 2015 was roughly “three-tenths of 1 percent of the 146,571 total accidental deaths from all other listed causes.”

And while accidental gun deaths fell 17 percent from 2014 to 2015, the total number of accidental deaths for all other listed causes rose 8 percent. NSSF observed, “It should be noted that the decrease, which was the largest percentage decline of any category, came in a year that saw record firearms sales to many millions of Americans.”

The fact that accidental gun deaths has fallen to it’s lowest level since 1903 is amazing in and of itself, but consider a few other facts. In 1903 the American population was just north of 80 million people, in 2017 there are more than 326 Million Americans. Not only that, Americans today own somewhere between 300 million and 600 million guns! There are more guns in America than ever before, and yet crime is at all time low-levels and now accidental gun deaths are too.

National Shooting Sports Foundation President and CEO Steve Sanetti was exuberant about what the latest report meant to the American gun owning community.

“This latest release from the National Safety Council shows that the vast majority of the 100 million American firearms owners meet the serious responsibilities which come with firearms ownership. They store their firearms safely and securely when not in use, and follow the basic rules of firearms safety when handling them. The many firearms safety educational programs sponsored by the firearms industry and firearms safety instructors nationwide, such as the NSSF’s Project ChildSafe, are also part of the reason for this ever-downward trend in firearms accidents. We will continue to work with organizations interested in genuine firearms safety to help reduce the number of firearms accidents even further in the days and years ahead.”

President Donald Trump must soon flood the federal judiciary with qualified conservative candidates, or he will allow Democrats to drag out the process over years. And the Senate needs to dispense with arcane rules that will allow Democrats to block Trump’s qualified nominees, says one legal expert.

The stakes are high after the latest judicial roadblock to slow down Trump’s second executive order related to travel and immigration.

On Wednesday, U.S. Judge Derrick K. Watson blocked Trump’s revised travel order restricting immigration temporarily from six predominantly Muslim nations. Watson, an Obama appointee based in a Honolulu federal court, cited Trump surrogates’ campaign-era comments about Muslim immigration in his decision, but ignored the relevant federal statute, which unquestionably gives Trump the right to restrict foreign travelers.

Watson argued the temporary ban is a thinly veiled attempt to ban Muslims based on their religion. Trump vowed to fight for the latest order all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. The restraining order now placed on Trump’s travel order underscores the need for Trump to speed up his appointments.

“It is vital that Trump nominate as many judges as possible as quickly as possible,” said Joseph diGenova,  the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia under President Reagan. “[The nomination of Neil] Gorsuch demonstrates the lengths to which the Democrats will go to obstruct these nominees.”

Just by taking office, Trump gets to replace 13 percent of federal judges. That’s twice the number of judicial appointments Obama got to make when he assumed office in 2009. According to the federal judiciary’s official website, there are 116 vacancies on the U.S. district courts, the U.S. appellate courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court. There are 856 seats in the U.S. district courts and the U.S. appellate courts in total. There are another six open seats on the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and two on the U.S. Court of International Trade.

Trump has already moved to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court with U.S. Judge Neil Gorsuch.

Watson, an Obama appointee, clearly helped influence policy and debate months after the president who appointed him had left office. The Watson opinion shows federal judges are the very definition of “legacy” for a president. They linger on federal benches for years, issuing opinions made in the spirit of the presidents who put them there.

It’s why some conservatives want the Republicans, who control the U.S. Senate by two votes, to abolish the filibuster for all judicial nominees. The Senate gets to vote on federal judges, but it needs 60 votes to overcome a filibuster. The GOP has just 52 senators.

“This is all about legacy,” said diGenova. “Clearly, if the Democrats persist in their obstructionism, the Senate should go full nuclear on all judicial nominees, including then the U.S. Supreme Court nominees.”

But diGenova is also concerned about another trick the Democrats can use to hamper the president’s ability to select judges.

“In addition to this obstructionism, there is the fact that Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has adopted the ‘blue-slip-as-veto’ policy of his Democratic predecessors,” said diGenova. “That means that if a Democrat senator from any state objects (either says ‘no’ to a nominee or simply does not return the blue slip to Grassley) to a Trump nominee for a federal district court, a U.S. attorney, or a U.S. marshal, that person is dead as a nominee. The Democrats can thwart the will of the people in all states where they have at least one senator.”

DiGenova said the tactic was used in 2004, to help put in place the first federal judge to thwart Trump’s first order on the travel ban. That man was U.S. Judge James L. Robart of Washington State.

“That’s how Judge Robart, a nominal Republican, came to be in Washington State,” said diGenova. “He was nominated by President George W. Bush but was in fact the choice of the Democrats in that state who would not allow a conservative Republican to be nominated by Bush. The same thing will happen now unless the ‘blue slip’ policy of Chairman Grassley is changed to make the blue slip only one factor to be considered, and not allow the Democrats automatically to block Trumpers in their states from judgeships, U.S. attorney [posts] or marshal [jobs].”

Cities the DOJ want to staff up includes New York; Los Angeles; Miami; New Orleans; San Francisco; Baltimore, Bloomington, Minnesota; El Paso, Texas; Harlingen, Texas; Imperial, California; Omaha, Nebraska, and Phoenix, Arizona, the news service says.

This isn’t the first move to beef up immigration judge staff. Early in March the Trump administration also began sending judges to immigrant detention centers to speed up services.

The initial plan came on the heels of a Department of Homeland Security memo that requested the Trump administration allow federal immigration courts to use “expedited deportation proceedings” for any illegal immigrants living in the U.S. for two years or less. The process is currently limited to those only living in the U.S. for up to two weeks.

According to data provided by the Justice Department’s Executive Office of Immigration Review, there are up to 18,013 pending immigration cases in the cities targeted by the DOJ plan. The plan serves as another plank in President Trump’s promise to step up the deportations that ground to a halt during the last years of the Obama administration. It also marks a shift from Obama’s practice of deporting only illegals convicted of serious crimes — and even many of those were never deported.

Critics of the plan claim that “reshuffling” the judges will only cause a backlog at the courts that lost one of their judges.

Trudeau LOVES Immigrants. Just not Mexican ones.

The Liberal Prime Minister loves to smear Trump on immigration, and promote Canada as the kinder, gentler, more welcoming alternative to that ‘horrible’ and ‘judge-y’ America. You may remember him from those #trudeaueulogies after he praised his dearly-departed friend Castro. (Castro attended his dad’s funeral.)

So, let’s see how well Trudeau puts his money where his mouth is. In February, amid a dramatic uptick of immigrants into Canada, apparently due to the “Trump Effect,” Trudeau vowed to continue accepting asylum-seekers. But then reality came along and clubbed him with a stick.

Turns out an explicit open-border policy resulted in an immigration spike! (Especially in a country with such a generous Social Safety Net.) Immigration from Mexico TRIPLED year over yearBut did they get to STAY?

Because Mexican nationals are not exempt from the regular screening process a lot of Mexicans were VERY disappointed.

But the reality in the increasingly leftist country is not as “open” as Trudeau would like the world to think. As Reuters puts it, the numbers show that in Canada, it’s “hard to enter and harder to stay”:

But tough border checks, hard-to-find jobs and fine-tuned enforcement policies mean it can be hard to enter and harder to stay. […] Many Mexicans believe the eTA is all they need to set up in Canada, but in almost all cases they are wrong, immigration lawyers said. The eTA does not even guarantee entry.

Even if they get past the airport, many low-skilled Mexicans hoping to work illegally are likely to be disappointed, lawyers said, noting that it’s difficult for those entering on tourist visas to get work permits without an employer’s sponsorship. —

(eTA is an electronic travel visa)

In fact, the Liberal government — after over-hyping their ‘open borders’ has found itself in the awkward position of turning away so many Mexicans.

screen-shot-2017-03-18-at-12-56-59-pm

Of turning away even MORE than the ‘hard-hearted’ Conservatives they had criticized before them.

Whoops.

Oh. And the chart makes more sense when you realized that Trudeau replaced the Conservative Harper in October… of 2015.

‘art’ by Eric Owens

An evangelical Christian university in Minnesota is encouraging its professors to stop using words with masculine connotations — such as “man” and “mankind”because those words aren’t sufficiently “inclusive.” Bethel University in St. Paul is the school, reports Campus Reform.

The document asking faculty members to avoid using masculine terminology is entitled “Language is a Powerful Tool.” “To be clear in our Christian witness, the Bethel faculty encourages the use of inclusive language,” the document explains.

Professors at 6,000-student Bethel University should “avoid using masculine terms to refer to people who may be either male or female.” They should “employ inclusive language and images when speaking about or addressing human beings in academic work, public discourse, classroom discussion, college documents and publications and in worship experiences.” “Use a substitute for words like ‘man’ or ‘mankind’” when making general references to people, the guide says. “English is sometimes awkward” but “words like ‘humans,’ ‘humanity,’ ‘beings,’ ‘people” and ‘all’ are often adequate substitutes.”

Obviously, Bethel University’s guidance for using inclusive language in “documents and publications and in worship experiences” runs into considerable difficulty in any encounter with the Bible, the collected sacred texts of Christianity.

In Genesis 1:26, for example, the New International Version of the Bible reports God as saying, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness.”

In Genesis 1:27, the New International Version relates this information: “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

The older King James Version of the Bible presents even more problems for “inclusive” language. For example, that Bible’s version of Genesis 1:25 reads, in part: “And God made the beast of the earth after his kind.”

The New Testament also creates thorny problems for advocates of “inclusive” gender language. For example, Matthew 18:11 reads: “For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.”

The very exact phrase “son of man” interweaves in a very critical way throughout several Old Testament and New Testament books, including Ezekiel, Daniel, the Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles and Revelation.

In any case, Bethel University’s faculty language guide also urges professors to avoid several phrases including “man and wife.” Other sections of the guide address “inclusive language” as it relates to age, race, disabilities and social class. Bethel University’s faculty committee on family and gender equity created the school document on “inclusive” language. The document repeatedly stresses that its advice is voluntary and not mandatory.

“Our goal is to encourage a humble and Christ-like use of language, not to fetter specific disciplines,” the document explains.

A single year of tuition, fees and room and board at Bethel University currently costs $46,550.

redacted free speech

Today’s Democrat Party really is full of liberal fascists who would like nothing more than to control every aspect of the lives of the people. I know this because I’ve read the most recent draft of a bill being pushed through the New York state House and Senate.

The bill is being called the right to be forgotten act but would be more aptly named “you can only write things on the internet that the government give you permission to write.” The bill “requires search engines, indexers, publishers and any other persons or entities which make available, on or through the internet or other widely used computer-based network, program or service, information about an individual to remove such information, upon the request of the individual, within thirty days of such request.”

From New York Assembly Bill 5323, introduced by Assemblyman David I. Weprin and (as Senate Bill 4561 by State Sen. Tony Avella), a bill aimed at securing a “right to be forgotten”:

  • Within 30 days of a ”request from an individual,”
  • “all search engines and online speakers] shall remove … content about such individual, and links or indexes to any of the same, that is ‘inaccurate’, ‘irrelevant’, ‘inadequate’ or ‘excessive,’ ”
  • “and without replacing such removed … content with any disclaimer [or] takedown notice.”
  • “ ‘[I]naccurate’, ‘irrelevant’, ‘inadequate’, or ‘excessive’ shall mean content,”
  • “which after a significant lapse in time from its first publication,”
  • “is no longer material to current public debate or discourse,”
  • “especially when considered in light of the financial, reputational and/or demonstrable other harm that the information … is causing to the requester’s professional, financial, reputational or other interest,”
  • “with the exception of content related to convicted felonies, legal matters relating to violence, or a matter that is of significant current public interest, and as to which the requester’s role with regard to the matter is central and substantial.”

Failure to comply with the courts decision would leave the author of the work or the search engine that hadn’t pulled the material liable to pay a fine of $250 a day.

The Washington Post’s Eugene Volokh (also of the Volokh Conspiracy) writes that newspapers, online books, and even online encyclopedia’s would have to be censored whenever a judge and jury found (or the author expected them to find) that the speech was “no longer material to current public debate or discourse.”’

Can someone please inform the liberal activists who seem to be inventing new rights at ever increasing speed that this isn’t how “rights” work. “Rights” are a guarantee they cannot be either given nor taken away. “Rights” are granted by God and apply to all people, the problem is that some governments rule wickedly over their people so those people are unable to exercise their rights without risking life and limb.

Ironically though the legislators pushing this bill are seeking to invent one right by undermining another. For there to exist a “right to be forgotten,” then the (actual) “right to free speech” must be destroyed, and this bill does indeed destroy the right to free speech.

Actor Gary Sinise is a well-known celebrity within the military community — and for good reason. His name has become synonymous with supporting the troops.

I’ve traveled across the United States, around the world, and back again. I made stops in several USO facilities along the way to find some refuge from the often-long travels. These facilities have a very welcoming vibe and are often a beacon of light for weary service members as they head to some very rough places in the world. The atmosphere is reminiscent of visiting a hometown after a long absence.

The volunteers of the USO seem to always be happy to greet the visitors that enter through the doors. Upon arrival, those associated with the military are offered snacks and refreshments.

Throughout my journeys, I’ve noticed that in almost every single facility that I have visited, an autographed photo of Gary Sinise is proudly displayed. A sincere message typically accompanies the photo. Sinise has been supporting military members and veterans for decades now. After his very heartfelt performance as Lt. Dan in the movie “Forrest Gump” — in which he played a severely wounded combat veteran — Sinise began working closely with wounded and disabled veterans.

He has received several awards throughout the years for his selfless service to the military and first responders.  He’s also founded an organization — the Gary Sinise Foundation that provides a host of service to veterans, including providing smart homes for severely wounded and disabled veterans. The foundation also puts on the Invincible Spirit Festival, which honors wounded service members in addition to their caregivers and hospital staff. If these amazing programs weren’t enough, there’s even more that the Gary Sinise Foundation sponsors.

One of the most touching is the Soaring Valor program, which works with WWII veterans and provides them with transportation to the National WWII Museum in New Orleans where they can participate in making videos of their firsthand accounts of war. This incredible mission is so important for the preservation of history and to support the veterans belonging to the Greatest Generation.

In addition to his already huge efforts, Sinise founded the Lt. Dan Band. The band has traveled around the world entertaining troops and spreading awareness about veterans’ causes.

For his latest award, Gary Sinise has been selected for the Association of the United States Army’s highest award for public service, the George Catlett Marshall Medal. The medal is awarded for sustained commitment to the men and women of America’s armed forces.

It takes a very special person to use their status as a celebrity in a positive manner. Sinise has not only toured with the USO to dangerous locations to meet and support the troops, but continues his work whether or not he’s in the spotlight.

In a world of political statements and over-the-top antics carried out by many of Hollywood’s rich and famous, Gary Sinise has set the bar very high with his public service and sustained work with the military community.

The challenges to Western Christianity in the United States, but also to Europe, have been the subject of several new books out this year. One could even argue that the warnings advanced by some of the authors about the decline and “soft persecution” of orthodox Christianity in the U.S. are not warnings for European Christians — but reality.

Among the authors of these books — called “alarmists” by one critic — are Archbishop Charles Chaput of Philadelphia; the well-known writer and academic Anthony Esolen; and the journalist and blogger Rod Dreher. Overlooked by many in their reviews is also the work of First Things Editor Rusty Reno.

In broad strokes, it is possible to say they all deal, in some way, with the perennial issue in Christianity of “fight or flight” — the challenge in which society appears to be too corrupt or too inimical for Christians to participate in the life of the public square. These authors certainly sound the alarm about the rapid disintegration of Christian culture and the forces that are actively hostile to it. With one exception, they propose fight, not flight.

Related: In Defense of Prayer on America’s Military Bases

They are fighting to reclaim society for Christ, fighting for the right to live faith in the public square, and fighting for the family, particularly — the bedrock of society — against the multiple anti-family forces, including the media and government.

Many, if not most orthodox Christians, would agree with much of what these notable authors write — to criticize them as “alarmists” seems rather peculiar. Surely, if the ship is heading toward the iceberg, failing to sound the alarm is both unwise and cowardly, yes?

It is a function of the prophet, as Ronald Knox said at Hilaire Belloc’s funeral, to “see the evils of the day in a clear light.”

That vision will usually receive both criticism and hostility, often from those within the family of the Faith — that should be no surprise. The criticism of “alarmism” also seems to presuppose that sounding the alarm is a sign of negativity, yet the canary in the mine was there to save lives; without the canary, people died.

With tens of millions of abortions, the sacred bond of matrimony “redefined,” increasing government interference in every aspect of family life and education, and anti-Christianity being the last acceptable prejudicefighting is necessary.

Related: A Day Without an Abortion in America

The alarm has been powerfully sounded and a vibrant debate has truly begun. This can only be a good thing for those who take their faith seriously and wish to further God’s kingdom on this earth. Perhaps the return of “Christendom” is not a possibility, at least in the near future; but there is certainly nothing wrong with aspiring to that noble goal.

The one exception to the “fight” narrative — reclaiming and engaging with the culture — is “The Benedict Option” by Rod Dreher. Dreher would probably argue that his book has as much “fight” in it as the others, and he would be correct; but his fight comes through flight.

“The Benedict Option” is an idea first coined by the philosopher Alasdair MacIntyre, who saw the figure of  St. Benedict of Nursia and the monastic family he founded as the source, not only of the survival of Christianity as the Roman empire collapsed, but of the creation of later Christian society, or Christendom itself. Broadly speaking, it was St. Benedict’s decision to flee the corruption of Rome — the “fuga mundi” — and establish an alternative Christian society outside of the mainstream, ultimately Western monasticism, that is the model for Dreher’s thesis.

Not that individual or families become monks but, as the clearest of the “alarmists,” Dreher sees no short-term hope for the revival of Christian society without that necessary withdrawal or “flight.”

It is interesting to note, on a personal level, that, in the nearly 18 years I have lived in the United States, I have observed the idea of much of what Dreher proposes become a reality. Families have moved to live near some of the new and ancient monasteries, like Clear Creek in Oklahoma. The new Catholic colleges, vibrant centers of orthodoxy and youthful enthusiasm, have themselves become little centers of the “Benedict option” — Wyoming Catholic College and Thomas Aquinas, to name but a few.

In fact, pick any of the new authentically Catholic colleges, and you will find families and individuals who have moved there to be part of the community. This seems to be part of what Dreher envisions in the “flight” — with community, liturgy, and family at the center of the alternative society.

Critics of Dreher’s vision have warned of the “Catholic ghetto,” and proposed the second-century “Letter to Diognetus” as a better model of how Christians should live in a pagan culture; Archbishop Chaput focuses on that model in his book.

Yet it is perfectly possible to argue that there is no discrepancy between the “Letter to Diognetus” and “The Benedict Option.” Second-century Christians were certainly in a pagan culture; in fact, they were often in grave danger. Moreover, they were far from assimilated into the culture. They were an alternative society, tightly bound by their liturgical practice and family life, even though they lived among pagans.

Pope Benedict XVI — who took the name of St. Benedict partly because of the eclipse of Christianity in the West — has described, in his final “Testament” interview with Peter Seewald, his depression and sadness as he has witnessed the slow death of the faith in much of the West. Maybe his vision of a “smaller, purer church” will be the fruit of the dialogue between fight and flight?

For Christians, the clash between liberals and conservatives has an ominous history. Often, faithfulness is the true casualty of the conflict. / Liberal Versus Conservative

“Are we seeking political solutions to deep spiritual problems?”

Dr. John Neihof

Ezekiel 22:26

Her priests have violated my law and profaned my holy things; they have not distinguished between the holy and unholy, nor have they made known the difference between the unclean and the clean; and they have hidden their eyes from my Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them.

John 2:13-16

Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business. When He had made a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. And he said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make my Father’s house a house of merchandise!”

Matthew 21:12-13

Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’”

Conservative versus liberal ideologies are nothing new. In Ezekiel’s youth, temple worship was polluted by compromising, tolerant priests—liberals—who refused to recognize the difference between the holy and the profane, the clean and the unclean, the righteous and the sinful, true worship and idolatry. These sins of the priests, along with the failures of the prophets and the people, were at the heart of Israel’s rebellion that landed them in oppression and captivity. They “profaned my holy things.”

During the Babylonian captivity, the Hebrews, under the leadership of Ezekiel the prophet, searched their hearts, the Scriptures, and their history to understand how they had violated God’s covenant with them. They started synagogues to study the Hebrew law. A conservative group of holy men, scribes and Pharisees, emerged from captivity as the spiritual leaders of the nation. These scribes and Pharisees were the leaders of a spiritual and national revival movement in Israel for the next 400 years.

When Jesus appeared on the scene in the first century, two political factions dominated Hebrew life and culture. The Sadducees were the political moderates and liberals who practiced appeasement toward the Roman occupying presence in Israel, thus protecting their political party. The Sadducees controlled the high priesthood in the Jerusalem temple. Although they were the minority party of the Jewish ruling body, the Sanhedrin, the Sadducees rarely lost a battle they wanted to win against the conservative faction of scribes and Pharisees.

The scribes and Pharisees were among Jesus ‘chief opponents—lawyers, students, and scholars. Their scrupulous observance of the Hebrew ceremonial law reached far beyond the first five books of the Bible, the Pentateuch, to include oral tradition, interpretations, and explanations of the law. Their addendums were massive, and carried the same moral obligation for the people as the Law of Moses.

The chief priest and the Sadducees were in a struggle for the control of the Hebrew nation, doing battle with the conservative scribes and Pharisees, all under the watchful eye of Rome. This power struggle set the Sadducees and Pharisees up for a fight with Jesus, the Son of God.

Our Lord must have watched the exploitation of the people at the temple all His life. The liberal Sadducees controlled the position of chief priest. The chief priest turned this power into a money making scheme by appointing the inspecting priest who examined the sacrificial animals which people brought to temple for sacrifice. Animals had to be approved as being without blemish to be permitted to be slaughtered and burned as an offering on the temple altar. The complicit task was to disapprove a prescribed percentage of the perfectly acceptable sacrifices, purchase them at a deeply discounted price above the powerless protests of the inconvenienced worshiper. The rejected animal would then be introduced as the newest acquisition to the temple herd, only to be resold to a worshiper as an unblemished sacrifice a few days later.

The Sadducees had the scribes and Pharisees over a barrel. The conservative Pharisees were so dug into their rigid position that they had no moral authority to protest the enforcement of holiness, however corrupt, in the priests’ approval of the sacrificial beasts. The Sadducees could simply hide behind their claim that they were fastidiously enforcing the Hebrew law. At that point, the Pharisees’ protests failed, for legalistic enforcement of the Law of Moses was what they insisted.

The Sadducees’ conflict with the scribes and Pharisees put the average Hebrew in a losing position along with the Pharisees. Only the chief priest came out looking the winner.

Jesus understood what was going on. He had watched the exploitative process all His life. He was probably first exposed to it as a twelve-year-old boy when His family traveled to Jerusalem for Passover (Luke 2:41-50). Perhaps, He and Joseph had even suffered the refusal of their unblemished sacrifice at the hands of the chief priest’s corrupt inspector. It could explain why Jesus was so incensed by what He knew was going on in the Temple. Not once, but twice, Scripture records Jesus’ cleansing of the temple at the beginning of His ministry in John 2, and at the end of His ministry in Matthew 21 and Luke 19. It is interesting that Jesus began and ended His ministry with cleansing the temple.

Jesus transcended the trap of the liberal v. conservative political continuum of His day by emphasizing holiness, prayer, healing, and spiritual power. He was not co-opted or compromised by political pressures. He rose above the entrapment of politics and spoke wholeness and hope into an abusive situation.  Think about that.

What does Jesus’ principled action have to say about how I should live in this present age?

Jesus was not reactionary. He thought and felt deeply about the matter of His Father’s house for many years. He loved the Father, the people, and true worship. He opposed everything from the left and the right that limited access to the Father, especially the profiteering that had polluted the place of prayer for exploitative purposes.

  • What are the bonds that enslave and keep us from knowing our Heavenly Father today?
  • What are the barriers to prayer in life today?
  • Do we oppose barriers to the Father with the same urgency and persistence Jesus showed?
  • Are we seeking political solutions to deep spiritual problems?

What about my temple? The temple of my heart?

Is my temple polluted with profiteering and self-interest so that true fellowship with the Father is compromised?

Am I so rigid in my emphasis of liberal and conservative, so idolatrous in my emphasis of right over left, so consumed with time above eternity, that my temple is polluted

My prayer: “Jesus, drive the double-mindedness from my heart and enthrone Yourself as the single object of my affection. Help me to transcend the political strife of my age so that I am truly Christian. Help me to speak healing and wholeness into the brokenness of our time-bound existence rather than being compromised by it. Amen.”

Donald Trump alleged that Barack Obama wiretapped him after he read an article published by The New York Times in January. That’s what the president said when Tucker Carlson asked him during an interview on Fox News Wednesday night what his reasons were for believing the Obama administration surveilled him during the presidential election.

“I’ve been reading about things,” Trump said. “I read in January a New York Times article. I think they used the exact term ‘wiretapping.’ I read other things. I watched your friend Bret Baier where he was talking about certain, very complex sets of things happening. I said, ‘Wait a minute, there is a lot of wiretapping happening.’”

Carlson asked why Trump didn’t go straight to the intelligence agencies for evidence that he was surveilled by the Obama administration then.

“I don’t want to do anything that’s going to violate any strength of an agency,” Trump said. “We have enough problems. But, we will be submitting certain things and I will perhaps speak about this next week.”

“Don’t you devalue your words when you can’t provide evidence?” Carlson asked.

“Well, The New York Times wrote about it — not that I respect The New York Times. I call it the ‘Failing New York Times.’ But I think that, frankly, we have a lot right now. If you watched Bret Baier and what he was saying, you would feel very confident. I think you will see some interesting things going to the forefront over the next few weeks.”

“And don’t forget, when I say wiretapping, those words were in quotes. That really covers, because wiretapping is pretty old fashioned stuff. But that really covers surveillance and many other things. And nobody ever talks about the fact that it was in quotes.”
