Jason Whitlock Op-ed: Samantha Ponder is more courageous than all the men at ESPN

A time comes when silence is betrayal. That time has come for us in relation to biological males competing in women’s sports. That time has come for us in relation to male athletes avoiding the topic of biological males competing in women’s sports.

I’m obviously stealing from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s anti-Vietnam War speech. It applies to transgenderism. It applies to America’s assault on common sense.

We live in a time in which the prevailing sentiment is that everything is for everybody. It’s not true. You can’t have it all. You shouldn’t desire to have it all. The mindset is testament to greed’s power to overtake a culture and man’s willingness to submit to cowardice in pursuit of financial gain.

On Saturday, USA Today published a column attacking ESPN broadcaster Samantha Ponder for a tweet that supported University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines. Gaines has earned popularity speaking out against the trend of gender-dysphoric biological males competing in girls’ sports. She swam against William “Lia” Thomas in the NCAAs. Last week, via Twitter, Gaines shared a handful of messages she received from California parents and young girls upset that biological boys were competing against girls in the state’s high school track meet.

They don’t want you to see this … Big Tech does its best to limit what news you see. Make sure you see our stories daily — directly to your inbox.

Ponder retweeted Gaines and added a comment:

“I barely said anything publicly about this issue and I’ve had so many people message me, stop me in the street to say thank you and tell me stories about girls who are afraid to speak up for fear of lost employment/being called hateful. It is not hateful to demand fairness in sports for girls.”

This tweet sparked a nasty rebuke from Nancy Armour, a USA Today columnist: “Don’t be fooled by the people who screech about ‘fairness’ to cloak their bigotry toward transgender girls and women, the transgender girls and women who have the audacity to want to play sports, in particular. This is, and always was, about hate, fear, and ignorance.”

According to Armour, Sam Ponder is a bigot now because she believes biological boys and girls should compete in separate sports. Armour berates Ponder for agreeing with a Megyn Kelly tweet that ridiculed a transgender “woman” going to see a gynecologist. Armour complained that Ponder’s likes are a “cesspool of transphobic tweets.” In April, Ponder tweeted that she regrets not speaking out sooner in support of Riley Gaines.

Where are the men at ESPN and throughout the sports world speaking out in support of Samantha Ponder and Sage Steele, another ESPN employee who has been vocal on the trans sports issue? Why are jocks, sports pundits, and men betraying Ponder, Steele, and Gaines?

If Mina Kimes gets a mean tweet about her lack of qualifications to be considered an “NFL insider,” the white and black knights of ESPN rush to Twitter to protect their Asian queen.

There’s no rush to publicly rally around Ponder or Steele because there’s no money or social media clout to be gained. You can’t elevate your Corporate Equity Index pointing out the absurdity of men competing against women.

Every male ex-jock at ESPN knows it’s unfair for biological boys to compete against girls. They’re experts on the topic. They know far more about competing in athletics than they do about law enforcement, the criminal justice system, and American history. They can’t wait to hop on television to second-guess law enforcement. They can’t wait to offer bold opinions about subjects they know very little about. But boys competing against girls?

Silence.

It’s as fundamental a topic as there is in sports. It’s the equivalent of debating Jordan vs. LeBron or the NFL careers of Tim Tebow and Colin Kaepernick. Why is ESPN avoiding the subject?

Because the executives running the network are petrified of the Alphabet Mafia and the on-air talent fear social media backlash. It’s collective cowardice. Two women at ESPN – Ponder and Steele – have more courage than Mike Greenberg, Stephen A. Smith, Ryan Clark, Dan Orlovsky, Jalen Rose, Max Kellerman, and all the other men combined. It’s embarrassing. This is what happens when everyone is chasing “the bag.” It empowers social media to eliminate common sense.

I have sympathy for men and women who believe they were born the wrong gender. But common sense makes it clear that not everything is for everybody. A boy who thinks he’s a girl doesn’t get to compete in girls’ sports. That’s life. No different from how I’ve long thought I would look great in size 32 skinny jeans. They’re not for me. They don’t fit.

The solution to dysphoria is not pandering to other people’s delusion. It’s helping them come to grips with reality. And the reality is the silence of men on the issue of trans athletes speaks to our betrayal of women and God.

Prison Counsellor:  “Why do you say you feel “trapped” in a man’s body?”

Convict:  “Well, sometimes I get them menstrual cramps real hard.”

Those of us that remember this classic scene from the 1987 film “Raising Arizona,” still laugh when we think about the convict uttering those ridiculous words. Ridiculous, we said. Crazy, we thought. Common sense and a little 7th grade biology told us that men could not get pregnant, have periods, let alone experience menstrual cramps. However, that was then- this is now.

Somehow, the invention of the internet that provided billions of people with limitless information daily has now replaced what was once ‘elementary knowledge’ with what equates to a panel discussion. Contrary to what was once believed, common sense is not so common.

At a recent University of Pittsburg event in March, Former University of Kentucky swimmer and Independent Women’s Forum spokesperson Riley Gaines addressed a group concerning winning her competition against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, a biological man. During her speech, Gaines directed a question to the school’s anthropologist, Professor Gabby Yearwood.

The exchange was recorded in an article in the Washington Examiner:

“I actually have a question for you. You being an anthropologist, which anthropology is the study of human civilization,” Gaines said as the anthropologist noted that his area of study includes a focus on biology.

“So, if you were to dig up a human, two humans, in 100 years from now, both man and woman, could you tell the difference, strictly off of bones?” Gaines questioned.

The anthropologist said, “No,” as those in attendance burst into laughter.

“I’m not sure why I’m being laughed at if I’m the expert in the room,” the anthropologist said. “Have any of you been to archaeological sites? Have any of you studied biological anthropology? I’m just saying, I’ve got over 150 years of data. I’m just curious as to why I’m being laughed at.”

As Gaines began to explain that she had “put a lot of research into this,” the anthropologist cut her off to say: “I have a Ph.D.”

The crowd once again began to laugh. Video of the interaction went viral as Twitter users responded, suggesting the anthropologist was “either incompetent or lying.”

The Buried Truth

The thing to remember here is that Gaines isn’t engaging a student or simply a bystander or even a visitor- Yearwood was a certified University anthropologist- Pitt’s gold standard of academia. In most cases, such a degree generally takes about four years of study to complete, certainly covering basic human biology and bone structure. One might wonder how Gabby would still have a job- and one would be correct to wonder. Regardless of the clear picture of this “expert’s” obvious ineptitude, the Left never says die.

One week later, Gaines was invited to speak at the San Francisco University chapter of Turning Point USA, once again sharing her experience of competing against Thompson. Almost immediately things took a turn for the worse. The New York Post records Gaines’ harrowing experience this way:

“Swimmer Riley Gaines on Saturday threatened to take “legal action” after saying she was assaulted by trans-rights protesters during a speech about protecting women’s sports at San Francisco State University.

“The campus police did nothing. The dean of students was there and did nothing. There will be no repercussions unless I have something to do with it,” Gaines told “Fox & Friends Weekend” host Rachel Campos-Duffy.

“I will be pursuing legal action. These people need to face repercussions.” The former NCAA swimmer and 12-time All-American champ said a mob of demonstrators attacked her while she spoke about including trans athletes in women’s sports during Thursday’s Turning Points USA event at SF State.

Dramatic video Gaines shared on Twitter shows her being ushered out of a classroom and into a hallway by security as protesters chase after her. One of the activists gets in front of her and shouts, “Trans rights are human rights” and “Yeah, you f–king transphobic bitch — I f–king see you!”

“The prisoners are running the asylum at SFSU…I was ambushed and physically hit twice by a man,” she tweeted.   Additional footage shared on social media shows security blocking Gaines from a mass of protesters before she was escorted to a safe room, where she said she was barricaded “for three hours.”

“Truthfully, I think these people resort to anger, both verbally and physically, and violence because they know they don’t have reason on their side,” Gaines told Campos-Duffy. “They cannot debate me with logic or science or any kind of data that supports their argument, so they resort to personal attacks.”

It seems that in the blink of the societal eye everything has changed.

It was only back in 2005 when we were introduced to the TV series “Bones” about the cases of a well-known female forensic anthropologist. Running for nearly 11 years, episodes centered on FBI case files surrounding mysteries concerning often limited and/or badly degraded human remains. In episode 8 season 1, an FBI agent she works with brings her an old freezer he claims contains a human body. Upon prying open the door and seeing the body, the agent asks, “he or she?” Within seconds of looking at the body’s pelvic region, the anthropologist replies, “she.”  To be clear, this deduction was not based on years of case study, or even the acumen that led to her notoriety. This was in a nutshell, basic human biology.

It appears we collectively knew these basic truths like ten minutes ago; only now, the same group collectively denies what we all once professed to know. Despite that, there are still many that consider acknowledging ‘preferred gender’ instead of ‘confirmed gender’ to be a hill worth dying on. Oddly enough, it is those very same individuals that during the Pandemic reminded us ad nauseum to “follow the science,” that now choose to ignore that same “science” when it is no longer politically expedient or beneficial.

Yet, if we’re being honest, “they” do not shoulder all the blame.

Many of us elected to heed the “science” rhetoric despite available truths and data to the contrary. Wearing masks and sheltering in place was no more substantiated science then, than mutilating children is “gender-affirming” care, or men playing God over their bodies by pretending to be women is now.

When that husky man in “Raising Arizona” complained of menstrual cramps, we certainly thought it was funny. If we knew then what we are seeing now, we would have never laughed. Brave men and women like Riley Gaines, Matt Walsh and others are discovering what is truly an inconvenient truth: the Trojan Horse dismissal of films like “Tootsie” and “To Wong Foo”, the Caitlyn Jenner’s, the RuPaul’s and those men lamenting over their bodies challenged with what only women can experience has led us to this. The only way to exterminate this “transfestation” is to combat it with truth. The first inoculation must begin in our own homes. America, we have work to do.

Progressive journalist doubles down bashing ‘birthing person’ language after backlash: ‘I’ll never apologize’

A progressive media host is doubling down after she enraged liberals by insisting women should not be referred to as “birthing persons” or “persons with uteruses.” “The Young Turks” co-host Ana Kasparian laughed at the backlash she received after calling transgender “inclusive” language “degrading” to women last month. Progressive journalists and transgender activists accused her of being “right-wing.”

“[Laughing out loud]! The meltdowns over wanting be referred to as a woman rather than a ‘birthing person’ is pretty wild,” she responded on Twitter on Monday.

LIBERALS MELT DOWN AFTER FAR-LEFT JOURNALIST BLASTS ‘BIRTHING PERSON’ LANGUAGE: ‘OH F— OFF’

The far-left host insisted she’d never apologize for taking this stance.

“I’ll never apologize for that, especially as biological woman who has had a f—ing lifetime of being told I’m less than,” she added.

“I’m a woman. No apologies,” Kasparian fired back.

Many of the same progressives who criticized her original tweet also took offense at this unapologetic statement. Several on the left pleaded for Kasparian to stop tweeting about the issue or accused her of bigotry.

“You’ll be on J.K. Rowling’s level of TERFyness within 2 years at this rate,” Mississippi Free Press news editor Ashton Pittman tweeted.

NYC TOP HEALTH OFFICIAL REFERS TO WHITE WOMEN AS ‘BIRTHING PEOPLE,’ CALLS BLACK AND HISPANIC WOMEN ‘MOTHERS’

The founder of “Race 2 Dinner,” an organization that invites White women to be lectured about their privilege and racism, mocked Kasparian. “You win the Oscar, Emmy and Grammy for Most Toxic White of the Weekend. Bravo for you,” Saira Rao said.

Transgender activists insisted no one was referring to a woman as a “birthing person.”

“That’s not what’s happening,” Charlotte Clymer, an activist formerly with the Human Rights Campaign, retorted. “When referring to the whole community of people who are capable of pregnancy in the context of pregnancy, repro advocates use ‘birthing person’ to include trans men + nonbinary people. No one is arbitrarily calling individual women ‘birthing person,'” Clymer tweeted.

A transgender drag queen running for Congress in 2024 told Kasparian she was wrong and warned transgenders were under attack.

“I really don’t understand why you’re still tweeting about this. How many times a day are you being referred to as “birthing person” in real life? Knowing the intense scrutiny & hate trans people are facing rn, along w/the hundreds of anti-trans bills, couldn’t you just not?” the candidate tweeted.

Transgender attorney and activist Alejandro Carabello warned Kasparian that not using inclusive language could lead to “dire” results, linking to a 2019 report where a transgender man, a biological woman, was not given proper medical care and delivered a stillborn baby.

“No one is using that term to describe you personally, it’s in reference to the population. When language isn’t inclusive in medicine, the consequences can be dire. These are the real issues instead of making yourself the victim,” Carabello wrote.

Fox News reported last year how the Biden administration, congressional Democrats and liberal groups across the country had repeatedly dropped words like “mother” and “woman” from their language in order to appease the transgender community.

More recently, major companies like Nike have turned off customers by paying transgender activists like Dylan Mulvaney to model women’s clothing.

Ann Andres is a biological male who claims to be a woman. He has placed first in multiple women’s weightlifting competitions in Canada and holds the record for women’s bench in the province of Alberta. He has gone so far in recent months as to ridicule the real women who compete against him.

Team Canada’s male powerlifting coach Avi Silverberg has evidently had enough of noncompetitive men migrating to women’s sports and gender self-identification policies in powerlifting. Over the weekend, he temporarily identified as a transgender and demolished Andres’ record. Andres is technically Alberta’s powerlift record holder for bench and deadlifts in the women’s category.

According to Open Powerlifting, Andres’ personal bests are 440.9 pounds for squat; 275.5 pounds for bench; and 545.6 pounds for deadlift. The transsexual athlete has won eight out of the nine female competitions he has entered since 2019.

The Independent Council on Women’s Sports, an advocacy group seeking to protect women’s sports from male infiltrators, indicated that outrage mounted after Andres added insult to injury, having denigrated his competitors and claiming women’s bench is “so bad.” Andres said in a video posted to Instagram, “Why is women’s bench so bad? I mean, not compared to me, we all know that I’m a tranny freak so that doesn’t count. And no, we’re not talking about Mackenzie Lee, she’s got little T-rex arms and she’s like 400 pounds of chest muscle apparently.”

“Standard bench in powerlifting competition for women, I literally don’t know why it’s so bad,” Andres reiterated. “My son, he weighs 45 pounds. His max bench is like 33, I’m legit seeing some women in competition who are doing something like 50 pounds, and I just don’t understand it.”

Beaten at his own game

Avi Silverberg serves as head coach for Team Canada Powerlifting, beginning in 2012. He has since coached over 4,500 attempts in international competitions. On March 25, Silverberg decided to temporarily identify as a woman — not to remedy possible dysphoria but as a means of protest. The newly minted transgender then attended the Heroes Classic Powerlifting Meet in Lethbridge, Alberta. The meet reportedly adhered to the Canadian Powerlifting Union’s gender self-identification policy, announced earlier this year.

The policy states, “Individuals participating in development and recreational sport … should be able to participate in the gender with which they identify and not be subject to requirements for disclosure of personal information beyond those required of cisgender athletes. Nor should there be any requirement for hormonal therapy or surgery.”

“Hormone therapy should not be required for an individual to participate in high-performance sport,” added the document. “Individuals should not be required to disclose their trans identity or history to the sport organization in order to participate in high-performance sport.”

Silverberg exploited this gender policy as Andres had, then tested the transsexual athlete’s record with him watching. Not only did the male coach beat Andres’ record, he cleared it by nearly 100 pounds. Andres had previously lifted 275 pounds. Silverberg casually pressed 370 pounds. The Independent Council on Women’s Sports noted on Twitter that “Avi Silverberg just broke the Alberta WOMEN’s bench press record in the 84+ kg category at the ‘Heroes Classic.'”

ICONS told the feminist publication Reduxx, “What Avi so obviously points out is that policies allowing men access to women’s sports completely remove any integrity in women’s competitions.”

“It doesn’t matter how Avi expresses himself or perceives himself. He clearly does not belong in women’s sport, and neither does any other male regardless of their motivation for wanting to participate,” added the women’s advocacy group.

Canadian weightlifter and YouTuber Greg Doucette lauded Silverberg’s weighty protest, stating, “How long before the powers that be suddenly wake up and smell the coffee and understand that if you’re born a female, you’re not going to be as powerful, as strong, as tall, as big … as if you were born a male.”

“To me, the answer is simple: We add a separate category, a new category, the trans category,” said Doucette.

Star surfer slams new rule allowing men to compete against women: ‘I personally won’t be competing … if this rule remains’

One of the most well-known female surfers in the world has publicly slammed a recent decision by the World Surf League to allow men to compete as women.

Bethany Hamilton has been participating in international surfing competitions since at least 1998. In 2003, when she was just 13 years old, she lost her left arm after a tiger shark attacked her while she was practicing. Despite the significant setback, Hamilton quickly returned to the surfboard and the competitive circuit. She wrote about her experience and her deep, abiding Christian faith in an autobiography that inspired the 2011 film “Soul Surfer,” starring Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid, and Carrie Underwood.

Over the weekend, Hamilton, now 32 and a wife and mom of three, released a video message on Instagram criticizing the WSL’s decision to allow so-called “transwomen” to compete against female surfers so long as their testosterone levels remain at or below 5 nmol/L for at least one year. WSL claimed that the rule change, which passed unanimously, now accords with “Olympic guidelines.”

But Hamilton challenged the premise of such guidelines, proffering a series of questions that she believes have not been addressed by those advocating for men in women’s sports. “Is a hormone level an honest and accurate depiction that someone indeed is a male or female?” Hamilton wondered. “Is it as simple as this?”

Hamilton also asked, “How is this rule playing out in other sports, like swimming, running, and MMA?”

Finally, she addressed the larger issue at play: Who exactly is “pushing for” these changes and who benefits from them? According to Hamilton, it’s not “the girls currently on tour,” most of whom do not “support … this new rule” but who do “fear being ostracized if they speak up.”

Hamilton insisted in the video that she has “love for all of mankind, regardless of any differences” and that she thinks the best solution would be to offer “a different division” for so-called “transgender” competitors, “so that all can have a fair opportunity to showcase their passion and talent.” If WSL does not create a separate division, Hamilton fears that women’s sports may be doomed within “15-20 years.”

Because of her concerns, Hamilton affirms in the close of the video: “I personally won’t be competing in or supporting the World Surf League if this rule remains.”

Though Hamilton has received a lot of criticism on social media, including accusations of “transphobia,” she has also received an outpouring of support. Fellow surfer Shane Dorian responded, “Speak your truth! Thank you for being brave enough to stand up for what you believe,” while swimmer Riley Gaines Barker — who has spoken out against “trans” competitor Will Thomas, aka Lia Thomas — added, “THANK YOU for using your platform to share this. I can’t express how inspiring this is.”

Indiana’s GOP Gov. Eric Holcomb vetoes bill barring biological males from girls’ sports

REPORTED By Michael Gryboski, Mainline Church Editor | Tuesday, March 22, 2022

Read more at https://www.christianpost.com/news/indiana-bill-barring-biological-males-from-girls-sports-vetoed.html/

The Republican governor of Indiana has vetoed a bill that would have prohibited biological males who identify as female to participate in female sporting competitions, expressing multiple concerns about the proposed legislation.

Gov. Eric Holcomb vetoed House Enrolled Act 1041 on Monday, explaining his reasoning in a letter to Indiana House of Representatives Speaker Todd Huston, also a Republican. Holcomb expressed concern with the bill’s “wide-open nature of the grievance provisions,” believing they made it “unclear about how consistency and fairness will be maintained for parents and students across different counties and school districts.”

The governor worries about the potential for the bill to tie the state up in litigation. He noted that other states that have passed similar legislation had been sued, with some court decisions coming down in favor of the plaintiffs.

Holcomb believes that the Indiana High School Athletic Association is doing a sufficiently decent job maintaining fairness in student sports without the new law.

“I am heartened by the IHSAA which has done an admirable job to help maintain fairness and consistency in all sports,” wrote Holcomb. “Nowhere in the testimony on this legislation was a critique leveled against their model on how to govern this and other complex matters.”

“Furthermore, not a single case of a male seeking to participate on a female team has completed the process established by IHSAA’s now decade-old policy.”

Meridian Baldacci of the socially conservative Family Policy Alliance, which supported the legislation, contends in a statement that Holcomb has “abandoned young Hoosier girls” and left them susceptible to the “same fate” as female college swimmers who lost to trans-identified swimmer Lia Thomas in the NCAA 500-yard freestyle national championship this month. While Thomas finished first by 1.75 seconds in the NCAA 500-yard freestyle, the athlete finished eighth in the 100-yard freestyle championship and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle final. Thomas is now a three-time All-American by competing in the finals of all three categories.

“Every time a male is awarded a limited girls’ roster spot, competition placement, scholarship, championship title or career opportunity, a female athlete has that same opportunity taken away from her – in a contest meant just for females,” stated Baldacci.

“The Indiana General Assembly must override this misguided and concerning veto from the governor of one of the most conservative states in the nation.”

Critics contend that biological males who identify as females have innate advantages from being biologically male and, on average, are larger with more muscle mass and higher bone density. However, liberal organizations, like the American Civil Liberties Union, have denied that any “unfair” advantage exists for trans-identified biological males who compete against women or girls because “athletes vary in athletic ability just like cisgender athletes” and success often depends on techniques and training.

According to the LGBT activist group the Movement Advancement Project, 12 states have passed laws prohibiting men who identify as female from competing in sports designated for females. The others include Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia. Earlier this month, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a law requiring students to confirm their biological sex before being allowed to compete in girls’ sports.

“No amount of talent, training or effort can make up for the natural physical advantages males have over females. It’s simply a reality of human biology,” stated Reynolds. “Forcing females to compete against males is the opposite of inclusivity and it’s absolutely unfair.”

In 2021, the NCAA threatened not to host championship tournaments and contests in states that have passed laws impacting the ability of trans-identified athletes to compete based on their gender identity.

The success of Thomas, a biological male who competed previously on the Penn men’s swim team before competing this year on the women’s team, has sparked much debate about NCAA policies on trans-identified athletes. Virginia Tech swimmer Reka Gyorgy, who missed the cut to compete in the 500-yard freestyle finals, voiced her displeasure with the NCAA’s policy. She wrote a letter to the NCAA on Sunday.

“It feels like the final spot was taken from me because of the NCAA’s decision to let someone who is not a biological female compete,” she wrote.

“I know you could say I had the opportunity to swim faster and make the top 16, but this situation makes it a bit different, and I can’t help but be angry or sad. It hurts me, my team and other women in the pool. One spot was taken away from the girl who got 9th in the 500 free and didn’t [sic] make it back to the a final preventing her from being an All-American. Every event that transgender athletes competed in was one spot taken away from biological females throughout the meet.”

Female athlete forced to compete against biological males finally gets major victory

Connecticut high school athlete Chelsea Mitchell finally got her big win. Mitchell is one of three girls who filed a lawsuit in federal court last week challenging the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference’s policy of letting boys compete in girl’s sports. She and other top sprinters have consistently lost events to Terry Miller and Andraya Yearwood, two biological males who identify as females.

But that changed on Friday at the Class S state championship when Mitchell beat Miller in a 55m event.

According to the Hartford Courant, Mitchell of Canton High bested Miller of Bloomfield by just .02 seconds, clocking in at 7.18 seconds to Miller’s 7.20 seconds.  The race was Mitchell’s first ever victory over Miller in the event, according to WVIT-TV.

“I try to just clear everything out of my mind, this is just track, you know, it’s just running, just focusing on myself, not trying to think about anything else that’s been happening,” Mitchell told WVIT after the race.

When asked if her victory would hurt her lawsuit, Mitchell said, “I don’t think it could go against, there’s still tons of girls that lose on a daily basis.”

There was no interaction between the two athletes after the race, the Courant reported. However, Miller, who clapped after the race, appeared to take a subtle jab at Mitchell in her post-race comments.

“I clapped because, for me, I’m not a hater,” Miller said. “When you take a win, you take the win. And even if you don’t respect me, I’ll respect you.”

The CIAC contends their policy of allowing boys to compete in girls’ sports follows federal anti-discrimination laws. Meanwhile, ACLU has called the lawsuit “a dangerous distortion of both law and science in the service of excluding trans youth from public life.”
