Leftism has metastasized into every facet of our society, leaving in its wake a trail of destruction, hypocrisy, and, above all, irony.
A Joe Biden presidency stands as Exhibit A, a perfect storm of incompetence and corruption. And if you think it couldn’t get worse, consider what the looming specter of a Kamala Harris presidency did. The mere thought shook America’s foundations so hard that the higher voter turnout completely defied conventional wisdom. But now, as Donald Trump ushers common sense back into the political arena, we’re starting to see just how far Leftism has swung the pendulum — and how catastrophic its consequences have been.
Justice Turned Upside Down
Take the case of Daniel Penny. A decorated Marine who acted to protect fellow subway passengers in New York City went trial for it. The coroner’s report confirmed that Penny’s actions didn’t kill the individual; he merely incapacitated him. Yet Penny faced prison because he’s white, and the perpetrator was black. Thank God he was exonerated. Penny had to fight for his life. Contrast this with a Black man in a similar case who was spared conviction because the judge ruled his troubled background excused his actions. Switch the races in Penny’s case, and it wouldn’t have made the evening news.
Then there’s Derek Chauvin, the police officer vilified and convicted in the George Floyd case. The coroner’s report revealed Floyd died of a fentanyl overdose and his own refusal to comply with officers. But none of that mattered in the court of public opinion, shaped by Leftist narratives. Chauvin became a sacrificial lamb to appease the woke mob.
This warped sense of justice isn’t limited to law enforcement. A pedestrian in NYC was recently stabbed to death by a 13-year-old migrant after refusing to take a photo. The killer shouldn’t even have been in the country. But thanks to Leftist policies, America has become a sanctuary for lawlessness.
The Generation of Freaks
Perhaps the most egregious legacy of Leftism is the cultural havoc it’s wreaked on an entire generation. We now have kids who don’t know their gender and are utterly confused about sexuality — thanks to the normalization of extreme ideologies. Instead, we teach them of a gender unicorn as a choice pre-K students make.
This isn’t progress; it’s chaos. Schools push gender ideology onto children not even old enough to read. Drag queens are heralded as role models while parents who question this madness are branded as bigots. We’ve gone from celebrating achievement to applauding confusion.
In Leftist America, mediocrity and failures aren’t just tolerated — they’re rewarded. Incompetent leaders are celebrated as visionaries. Think of how Kamala Harris is hailed as a trailblazer despite her record of gaffes and failure. Or how bureaucrats and academics rake in awards and millions for getting everything wrong.
Meanwhile, true grit and perseverance are derided. J.D. Vance, who rose above poverty and a drug-addicted mother, is labeled “privileged” because of his race. Yet Hunter Biden, the 54-year-old lawyer born into unimaginable privilege, is painted as a hapless victim of circumstance.
The Left’s oppression Olympics have turned logic on its head. A rich white man like Hunter Biden can now identify as an oppressed trans-Guatemalan midget quadriplegic on the victim scale.
Crime Pays
Leftism’s impact on public safety is equally damning. Crime is rampant, yet cities defund the police and vilify those who uphold the law. Criminals are coddled while law-abiding citizens are left to fend for themselves. Consider the irony: a Marine who acted heroically sat in prison, while violent offenders roamed free thanks to progressive district attorneys.
The Bigger Picture
Leftism has infiltrated every aspect of life, from education to entertainment to governance. It celebrates weakness, sows division, and punishes those who dare to push back. Yet, even as its failures mount, Leftists double down on their destructive agenda.
But there’s hope. Americans are waking up. DEI programs are being dismantled. Woke corporations are walking back misguided policies. And common sense, embodied by Trump and the movement he represents, is making a comeback.
Leftism is a cancer, but it’s one we can defeat. The path forward isn’t easy, but it’s clear: reject the
lies, embrace the truth, and hold firm to the principles that made America great. Let the Left drown in the irony of its own hypocrisy, while we rebuild a nation grounded in reality.
And if nothing else, let’s take solace in one undeniable fact: every morning, the Left wakes up knowing that Trump is coming back. For them, that’s the ultimate nightmare — and for us, it’s the ultimate hope.

Experts say President Joe Biden’s sweeping pardon of son Hunter looks like the one Gerald Ford gave Richard Nixon in 1974. Ford, sworn in after Nixon resigned amid the Watergate scandal, granted a “full, free, and absolute pardon unto Richard Nixon for all offenses against the United States which he, Richard Nixon, has committed or may have committed.” Ford noted in his remarks that the pardon reflected his presidential responsibilities and personal beliefs.
The president on Monday pardoned his son, sparing the younger Biden a possible prison sentence for federal felony gun and tax convictions and reversing his past promises not to use the powers of the presidency for the benefit of his family. The president’s sweeping pardon covers not just the gun and tax offenses against the younger Biden, but also any other “offenses against the United States which he has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 1, 2014, through December 1, 2024.”

With just 12 days left before Election Day, the Democrats and their allies are pulling out all the stops, launching baseless attacks to smear President Trump. On Wednesday, Kamala Harris pushed a tired, debunked hoax published by The Atlantic, being owned by a Kamala’s personal friend Laurene Powell Jobs. Harris seized upon a claim from Trump’s former Chief of Staff, John Kelly, who conveniently “remembered” just in time for the election that Trump allegedly praised Adolf Hitler—an absurd and false claim. This latest smear came as part of a coordinated effort by Harris and the Democrats, desperate to shift the narrative away from their failing policies and lackluster campaign.

The U.S. budget deficit grew to $1.833 trillion for fiscal 2024, the third highest on record.
The other two years when the U.S. budget was higher than $1.8 trillion were in 2020, when the deficit rose to $3.13 trillion, driven by the COVID-19 pandemic and stimulus relief measures. In 2021, the deficit was $2.78 trillion, as the government continued pandemic-related spending.
U.S. receipts for the 2024 fiscal year hit a record $4.919 trillion, up 11%, or $479 billion, from a year earlier, as individual non-withheld and corporate tax collections grew. Fiscal 2024 outlays rose 10%, or $617 billion, to $6.752 trillion.
The biggest driver of the year’s deficit was a 29% increase in interest costs for Treasury debt to $1.133 trillion, topping outlays for the Medicare healthcare program for seniors and defense spending.
But a senior Treasury official said the weighted average interest rate on federal debt interest costs began to decline in September for the first time since January 2022. For September, the government reported a $64 billion surplus, compared to a $171 billion deficit in September 2023, but the improvement was largely due to calendar adjustments for benefit payments. Without these, there would have been a $16 billion deficit in September 2024.
Reported receipts were a record for September at $528 billion, up 13% from a year earlier, while outlays were $463 billion, down 27% largely due to the calendar adjustments.
Below is my column in the New York Post on the indictment of Mayor Eric Adams. The most serious charges may be the foreign campaign contributions. However, the indictment is not nearly as overwhelming as suggested by the government. That may be why they are openly threatening Adams associates to cooperate or face ruin.

The federal five-count indictment of New York Mayor Eric Adams is on its face a damning document of alleged public corruption. The government is alleging that Turkish officials saw Adams as a rising star in the Democratic Party and started to groom him for influence.
However, once beyond the details of the opulent rooms and flight upgrades, there may be less here than meets the eye in some of these charges. The campaign-contribution violations raise serious problems for Adams in the alleged solicitation of unlawful foreign contributions. Yet the counts must be read with caution. We have not seen the specific defenses to the allegations of using “straw men” to funnel unlawful contributions and the alleged favors bestowed on contributors. Indictments are one-sided and highly slanted interpretations of the facts by prosecutors to secure a conviction.
For example, many of the gifts from Turkish sources were realized in the form of upgrades on flights to business class or expensive hotel suites. It is not clear what Adams knew of the logistics for such travel or their inclusion in annual reports. Despite their public personas, many populist politicians tend to be a pampered class who expect to be feted in the best quarters as they speak as the “voice of the people.”
That was captured most vividly by NYC Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sashaying at the Met Gala in a designer dress reading “tax the rich.” It was a scene with a crushing irony. The dress itself was worth more than some people make in a year, and it was just “loaned” to AOC despite being made specifically for her. She also did not pay for her ticket, which would cost $35,000.
It triggered an ethics investigation and allegations of ethical violations. In one night, Ocasio-Cortez flaunted roughly half of the value of the alleged Adams gifts as she paraded as a social warrior among the social elite. The truly hilarious aspect was that it was the elite who were thrilled by the demonstration and subsidized it.
The Adams allegations would constitute a fairly crude form of corruption by today’s standards. For the Biden family, it looks like small potatoes. Adams lacked a Hunter and the type of labyrinth of accounts maintained by the Bidens to funnel millions from foreign sources.
One of the most discussed allegations concerns a high-rise building built by Turkish friends in Manhattan to serve as their new consulate. The Turks wanted the building opened before the arrival of the Turkish president in 2021, strongman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The problem is that, according to prosecutors, New York Fire Department officials found an array of dangerous defects in the building and believed that it was a fire risk. They refused to allow the building to open until it met those standards. The government alleges that Turkish officials immediately dialed up their well-groomed ally, Adams, and told him that it was “his turn” to support Turkey. Adams intervened and prosecutors say that FDNY officials were afraid for their jobs.
Once again, however, Adams has defenses. He can argue that New York is the home of the United Nations and a large population of diplomats and international organizations. This was a foreign country seeking to open a consulate and he intervened to avoid an embarrassing diplomatic tiff.
Suggesting that a push to cut short fire inspections may be difficult to maintain under a bribery theory. That was the type of expansive case that government attorney Jack Smith used against former Virginia Republican Gov. Robert McDonnell and it failed spectacularly before the Supreme Court. There are other reasons besides flight upgrades why Adams might have facilitated a speed up of building approvals.
In the end, this is a Bob Menendez-lite indictment. Failing to publicly list how you moved from economy to business class on flights is hardly the stuff of “All the King’s Men.” It is more like “All the King’s Upgrades.” The biggest problem for Adams is that the US Attorney’s Office went public with a threat for all of those who do not cooperate and pledged that more will be “held accountable.” In other words, the indictment amplified the tune in a game of musical chairs. Anyone close to Adams may want to sit down before the music stops. That means that Adams can expect close associates to be testifying against him with the enthusiasm of those threatened with ruin by federal prosecutors.
If Eric Adams is convicted, it will be at the hands of his associates. The jury will not be particularly sympathetic with a politician snaring the Bentley Suite at the St. Regis Istanbul. Prosecutors love to play on such opulence like their use of Paul Manafort’s $15,000 Ostrich coat.
Combined with former friends and associates, it may be enough for the ultimate upgrade for Adams from business class to a federal cellblock.

President Joe Biden vowed on Friday to continue his campaign for reelection even as eight more fellow Democrats in Congress urged him to end his floundering campaign, fearing that it could cost the party dearly in the Nov. 5 election. Biden remained defiant, saying he would resume campaigning soon.
“I look forward to getting back on the campaign trail next week to continue exposing the threat of Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda while making the case for my own record and the vision that I have for America,” he said in a statement, referring to a policy plan developed by Trump’s conservative allies.
The divide among Democrats stood in sharp contrast to the scenes that played out his week at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where former party rivals united around Trump, who accepted the Republican nomination in a rambling speech that featured his familiar mix of grievance and bombast.
So far, 31 of the 264 Democrats in Congress have openly called for Biden to end his campaign, while other senior Democratic leaders have pushed him behind the scenes to do so, according to sources and media reports. Democrats are increasingly worried about a Republican sweep in the Nov. 5 election that could leave Trump and his allies not only in charge of the White House but also with majorities in both chambers of Congress.
“Your candidacy is on a trajectory to lose the White House and potentially impact crucial House and Senate races down ballot. It is for these reasons that I urge you to step aside,” wrote Representative Zoe Lofgren, one of eight Democratic lawmakers to call on Biden to drop out on Friday.
Lofgren is a close ally of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, one of the most influential Democrats. Pelosi has not publicly called on Biden to drop out but has privately told him he cannot win, according to a White House source speaking on condition of anonymity.
After weeks of insisting he will remain in the race, sources say Biden is now taking calls to step aside seriously, and multiple Democratic officials think an exit is a matter of time. A Democratic group called Pass the Torch said it would run TV ads on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” one of Biden’s favorite shows, urging him to drop out.
‘A LOT OF WORK TO DO’
Biden campaign chairwoman Jen O’Malley Dillon acknowledged that Biden faces a difficult path to reelection but said his support has not fallen significantly in recent weeks.
“We have a lot of work to do to make sure that we are reassuring the American people that, yes, he’s old, but he can do the job and he can win,” she said on MSNBC.
Though a Reuters/Ipsos poll earlier this week found Biden and Trump effectively tied nationally, strategists from both parties say Biden’s path to victory is narrowing as he trails in most of the battleground states that will decide the election.
Were Biden to step aside as a candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, 59, could fill the role. Reuters/Ipsos polling shows her as performing marginally better against Trump in a theoretical head-to-head matchup.
Harris will address a group of donors on short notice on Friday afternoon, at the request of Biden senior advisers, according to a source familiar with the situation.
Democrats could face some limits on what they can do with the $91 million Biden’s campaign had on hand as of the end of last month if he were to drop out, according to campaign finance experts.
TRUMP TIGHTENS GRIP ON REPUBLICANS
Trump on Thursday night delivered a dramatic account of the attempt on his life by a gunman at a Pennsylvania rally last Saturday and sought to appeal to undecided voters and said he would be a president for “all of America, not half of America.”
But he spent much of the rest of his 92-minute acceptance speech repeating well-worn attacks on the Biden administration and attacking migrants.
He claimed once more that his criminal indictments were part of a Democratic conspiracy, predicted Biden would usher in “World War Three” and described what he called an “invasion” of migrants over the southern border.
Trump and his 39-year-old running mate, U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance, are due to campaign on Saturday in Michigan, one of three Rust Belt states seen as must-wins for Biden’s campaign.
A federal appeals court on Thursday blocked President Joe Biden’s administration from continuing to implement a new student debt relief plan designed to lower monthly payments for millions of Americans.
The St. Louis-based 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted a request by seven Republican-led states to put on hold parts of the U.S. Department of Education’s debt relief plan that had not already been blocked by a lower-court judge.
That ruling last month by U.S. District Judge John Ross in St. Louis had blocked the department from granting further loan forgiveness under the administration’s Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan but had not blocked all of the plan.
That plan provides more generous terms than past income-based repayment plans, lowering monthly payments for eligible borrowers and allowing those whose original principal balances were $12,000 or less to have their debt forgiven after 10 years.
State attorneys general led by Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey subsequently last week asked the 8th Circuit to block the rest of the SAVE Plan. The court did so through a one-page order granting an administrative stay.
Bailey on the social platform X hailed the ruling as a “huge win for every American who still believes in paying their own way.” He said the student loan plan “would have saddled working Americans with half-a-trillion dollars in Ivy League debt.”
The Education Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Democrat party is reportedly in a state of chaos following Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance against President Trump. The Gateway Pundit reported on Friday that Doug Kass, a hedge fund owner and a prominent figure within the Democratic party, disclosed insider information about an emergency meeting between President Biden, his former Chief of Staff Ron Klain, and former President Barack Obama.
According to Kass, Jill Biden is pushing for Joe Biden to run for re-election, a move that has apparently created internal conflict within the campaign. Vice President Kamala Harris is allegedly “furious” about being overlooked as a potential replacement candidate.

During a press conference, DEI White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre lashed out at conservative media outlets for circulating what she described as “cheap fake videos” of Joe Biden looking old, feeble, and senile.
The controversy centers around a video clip that went viral, depicting Biden being led offstage by Barack Obama after freezing up at a Democratic fundraiser. The video is the third one from last week that shows Biden either being frozen or wandering. The Hollywood Reporter’s Chris Gardner posted a video that went viral of Biden briefly applauding the crowd. The New York Times headline seemed to gloat: “Stephen Bannon Reports to Prison After One Final Podcast Episode.”
“The show will be his last for four months, but the longtime adviser to Donald J. Trump has no intention of surrendering his influence,” the newspaper of record for the Democratic Party and the American left declared in its online subhead on Monday.
And so, the corporate media stories went, reporting on Bannon’s failed attempt to secure an 11th-hour reprieve from the U.S. Supreme Court. Bannon surrendered to federal authorities at a Connecticut federal prison to begin serving his time on contempt charges for defying a congressional subpoena. Loathed by the left and ruling-class Republicans, the conservative firebrand became the latest casualty of a two-tiered system of justice in America.
As Bannon begins his term, 15 cabinet officials in the Biden administration continue to defy congressional subpoenas, and Merrick Garland, the attorney general of the United States, continues to insist he’s above Congress. On June 13, U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil, chairman of the Committee on House Administration, issued subpoenas to 15 administration cabinet members seeking documents related to Biden’s constitutionally suspect executive order commanding federal agencies to assist in voter registration and get-out-the-vote campaigns. The agency chiefs failed to comply by Steil’s deadline of June 26.
“Not a single agency has responded with their strategic plan or with any details about the implementation of the EO,” the Wisconsin Republican said in a statement to The Federalist. “Additionally, we know that as many as 40 outside groups assisted and advised the agencies on implementation – we have received nothing on the role these groups played in the design of the strategic plans.”
Seems like contempt of Congress. Will the cabinet secretaries be bunking with Bannon anytime soon? Don’t count on it.
What about Garland?
On Monday, House Republicans sued Garland, who has refused to turn over the audio recordings of a “confused” President Joe Biden’s interview with Department of Justice Special Counsel Robert Hur about the president’s mishandling of classified documents. Republicans want a federal court to compel Garland to follow their subpoena. The attorney general effectively told Republicans to go pound sand, citing executive privilege in refusing to release the audio — audio that could be particularly damaging to Biden after his disastrous debate performance last week.
“The congressional inquiry began with the release of Hur’s report in February, which found evidence that Biden, a Democrat, willfully retained and shared highly classified information when he was a private citizen. Yet the special counsel concluded that criminal charges were not warranted,” the Associated Press reported. What the story failed to note is that the special prosecutor deemed charges unwarranted because the octogenarian president “would likely present himself to the jury, as he did during our interview with him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
Hur told the House Judiciary Committee in March that the White House pushed him to change portions of his report thought to be particularly damaging to the false narrative that Biden’s mental acuity remained sharp.
Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro has been in jail since March for likewise ignoring a congressional subpoena. The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear either man’s emergency appeal.
Before beginning his sentence, Bannon told reporters that he is a “political prisoner.”

CNN is attempting to silence independent media and control the narrative surrounding the first 2024 Presidential debate on Thursday by not allowing the use of CNN’s live broadcast to report and comment on the debate in real time.

Nearly 14 months after the first of four unprecedented criminal prosecutions against former President Donald Trump commenced in earnest, the Democrat-lawfare complex got its man: The Soviet show trial in “Justice” Juan Merchan’s dingy New York City courtroom produced its preordained “guilty” verdict.
It is perhaps hackneyed to observe that, in convicting and seeking to incarcerate a former president and current leading presidential candidate, we have “crossed the Rubicon.” Well …
Did we not cross a Rubicon when the demonic Obama administration sued the nuns—yes, literal nuns—of the Little Sisters of the Poor to try to force them to subsidize abortifacients?
Did we not cross a Rubicon when Democrats threw out 4,000 to 5,000 years of “innocent until proven guilty” civilizational norms to try to derail the U.S. Supreme Court confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh?
Did we not cross a Rubicon when then-vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris solicited funds to bail out anarchic Antifa-Black Lives Matter street hooligans?
Did we not cross a Rubicon when the American Stasi—sorry, the FBI—raided Mar-a-Lago over a document dispute?
Did we not cross a Rubicon when myriad Trump attorneys, including the renowned scholar John Eastman, were prosecuted for practicing the legal profession?
Did we not cross a Rubicon when Peter Navarro or Steve Bannon (just now) were ordered to jail?
The Rubicon, truthfully, is a shallow, inconsequential river in Italy. That it is so shallow helps explain why Julius Caesar was able to cross it so easily. At this juncture in American history, it no longer suffices to speak of crossing a Rubicon. We are now rapidly crossing great seas—perhaps even circumnavigating the globe. You might call President Joe Biden and the rest of the Democrat-lawfare complex our modern-day Magellans.
Ruinous or not, however, their precedent has now been set. And that raises the obvious question: For Democrats, will all of this, and especially their multifront anti-Trump lawfare, prove to be worth it?
That obvious question, in turn, has an equally obvious answer: absolutely, positively not.
First, Democrats do not seem to be getting much of a bump in the early polls after last week’s verdict. In each of the two major national polls that have been conducted exclusively after the verdict, from pollsters Emerson College and Morning Consult, Trump leads by 1 point. As even the liberal Washington Post conceded on Thursday, “Other polls conducted before and after the verdict suggest between no change and a two-point shift toward Biden. The shifts are quite a bit smaller than pretrial polls suggested they could be.”
Considering that Trump was already leading in most national horse race polling and that the Republican Party currently has a built-in Electoral College advantage wherein its presidential candidate can slightly lose the popular vote while still prevailing in the electoral vote, the Biden-Harris campaign ought to be worried.
Democrats’ lawfare isn’t winning over many swing voters.

Second, the damage the Democrat-lawfare complex has caused to the American public’s faith and trust in the justice system is simply astronomical—and likely irreparable. Even prior to the onslaught of Trump indictments filed last year, many of us “deplorables” were already convinced we have a two-tier system of justice in this country: Consider the wholly disparate prosecutorial treatment of the BLM-Antifa rioters and the “J6-ers” present during the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol jamboree, for instance.
But the Democrat-lawfare complex’s serial overreaches have now removed any doubt as to the blatant impartiality and patent unfairness of our regnant legal order. It is impossible not to be jaded or cynical. Leviticus 19:15 commands: “You shall commit no injustice in judgment; you shall not favor a poor person or respect a great man; you shall judge your fellow with righteousness.”
Does anyone think this describes America today?
Third, the Right finally seems to be snapping out of its long lull and beginning to gear itself for pitched battle against a domestic foe that wants to punish us, prosecute us, subjugate us, and remove us from the entirety of American public life. That portends poorly for leftists.
My friend John Yoo, the Bush-era Justice Department official and law professor normally a bit less pugnacious than yours truly, opined: “Repairing this breach of constitutional norms will require Republicans to follow the age-old maxim: Do unto others as they have done unto you.”
Megyn Kelly, the influential broadcaster who has had a complex relationship with Trump going back to the 2016 GOP presidential primary, said after the verdict: “I’m going to utter words I never thought I would utter in my life: We need Steve Bannon.” The famously combative Bannon appears headed for an unjust four-month prison sentence in a few weeks, but her point stands.
Democrats have no idea what they have unleashed. Perhaps worse, they don’t even care.

President Joe Biden will be formally nominated as the Democratic presidential nominee through a virtual roll call ahead of the party’s official convention in Chicago in August — a maneuver that will allow Biden to appear on the November ballot in Ohio and also reduce opportunities for disruptions from protesters. The Democratic National Convention, where the president would otherwise be formally nominated, comes after Ohio’s ballot deadline of Aug. 7. The party’s convention is scheduled for Aug. 19-22.
Ohio lawmakers have moved the deadline in the past for candidates of both parties, although they had not done so yet for Biden this year and were called to a rare special session by Gov. Mike DeWine to address the issue. The virtual proceedings will allow Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to get the party’s formal nod and will be very similar to the process used in 2020, when the convention went virtual because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The move also reduces the chances for an unscripted moment during the party’s highly produced Chicago convention that could embarrass Biden — who has faced discontent from some activist members of his party over his support for Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza — on live television.
The Democratic National Committee on Tuesday did not say when the virtual roll call will take place, but it is expected in the weeks after the committee’s rules and bylaws committee votes to propose changes to the roll call process. That committee vote is scheduled for June 4.
“Joe Biden will be on the ballot in Ohio and all 50 states, and Ohio Republicans agree. But when the time has come for action, they have failed to act every time, so Democrats will land this plane on our own,” Jaime Harrison, the Democratic National Committee chairman, said in a statement. “Through a virtual roll call, we will ensure that Republicans can’t chip away at our democracy through incompetence, or partisan tricks and that Ohioans can exercise their right to vote for the presidential candidate of their choice.”
Ohio lawmakers, meanwhile, were gathering Tuesday for the special session.
Negotiations between the House and Senate on a solution to Biden’s ballot conundrum began Friday. State Rep. Bill Seitz told reporters during a conference call that he and state Sen. Rob McColley, both Republicans, are leading the talks, with no resolution announced as of Tuesday.
Since Ohio changed its certification deadline from 60 to 90 days ahead of its general election, state lawmakers have had to adjust the requirement twice, in 2012 and 2020, to accommodate candidates of both leading parties. Each change was only temporary.
And the ability of voters to speak directly through the ballot initiative process on questions such as abortion has made reaching a solution more difficult in both chambers, where the GOP has lopsided majorities.
The Senate sent its version of the ballot fix to the House after attaching a prohibition on foreign nationals donating to Ohio ballot campaigns, stopping it in its tracks.
DeWine urged legislators to pass the combination measure during the special session, but Democrats have balked, saying the proposal goes beyond the foreign nationals ban to add requirements intended to make it more difficult to mount future ballot campaigns in the state.
That’s after Ohio voters overwhelmingly approved three ballot measures last year, including a constitutional amendment protecting access to abortions that Republicans opposed and an initiated statute legalizing adult-use marijuana.
A “clean” House bill containing only the adjustment to Ohio’s ballot deadline may also be considered.
Due to differing interpretations of the proclamation DeWine issued Thursday, the Ohio Senate scheduled a single day of activity for Tuesday, while the Ohio House plans to begin with two days of committee hearings before taking its vote Thursday.
A Senate spokesman has said it’s possible the upper chamber can convene Tuesday and then recess to wait for the House.

Feds Ban Memorial Day Event to Honor Fallen Heroes From National Cemetery, Call it a ‘Demonstration’

Since the 1960s, the Knights of Columbus have held a Memorial Day event at the Poplar Grove National Cemetery in Petersburg, VA. For the last two years, however, The National Park Service (NPS) has refused permission for the event due to a new policy prohibiting “religious services” and calling the ceremony to honor this nation’s fallen heroes a “demonstration.” The park service has instead said the event must take place in a nearby “free speech zone.”

Instead, we bring you lightly edited excerpts from his breaking testimony Thursday before the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability at a hearing on “Security Risk: The Unprecedented Surge in Chinese Illegal Immigration.”

I served as a Foreign Service officer in seven countries. I have adjudicated thousands of visa applications to facilitate lawful visits, commerce, and immigration to the United States while excluding aliens who were legally inadmissible. The visa process I worked with overseas stands in total contrast to what happens at the U.S. border today.
Over the past two years, I have visited the border in Arizona, California, New York, and Texas. On those visits, I saw nationals of many countries apprehended by the Border Patrol. In San Diego last March, I watched Border Patrol dropping off dozens of aliens, including Chinese, at a bus stop to release them into the country.
Mass release of people who entered the country illegally happens nearly every day, multiple times, at multiple locations. At best, this is a mockery of U.S. immigration law and sovereignty. At worst, it is a huge national security and community safety risk. In addition to many Chinese aliens with connections to the Chinese Communist Party, People’s Liberation Army, and other state entities, it is statistically probable that the Department of Homeland Security is releasing people with serious criminal records.
According to U.S. law, DHS is supposed to detain aliens who enter the country illegally. But the Biden administration has replaced border control with mass processing, parole, and release. DHS has also abused immigration parole at an unprecedented scale.
In January 2021, which included the first 11 days of the new Biden administration, the Border Patrol encountered 17 Chinese aliens between ports of entry. By January 2024, it was 3,700 in that one month alone. As of April 30, this year, DHS had already encountered 48,501 inadmissible Chinese aliens in fiscal year 2024 (which began Oct. 1, 2023); 27,583 of them between ports of entry.
Nearly all are being released into an asylum process that will take years to conclude. At the end of that process, those ordered removed are extremely unlikely to be deported, because the Chinese government does not cooperate in accepting their nationals back.
In fiscal year 2023, Immigration and Customs Enforcement removed only 288 Chinese aliens, leaving up to 100,000 still in the U.S., despite final orders of removal.
Most Chinese entering illegally are seeking employment. They use asylum claims to enter, remain, and work in the United States. Illegal immigration ebbs and flows corresponding to a risk-reward calculation. Today, Chinese are coming in great numbers simply because they can. Worldwide awareness of our open border, spread by social media, shows them how.
For example, Chinese citizens do not need a visa to fly to Ecuador, after which they can continue by land north to the U.S. And starting on May 17, Air China will begin direct flights from Beijing to Havana. If Chinese aliens are willing to take the dangerous trek by land from Ecuador to the U.S. via the Darien Gap, why wouldn’t they also be willing to traverse the 90 miles by water to Florida?
Overseas, an in-person interview by a U.S. consular officer is the first line of “vetting” for foreign visa applicants wanting to come to the United States. This is buttressed by consular staff who know local languages, customs, and news. Larger embassies host other federal agencies that can assist with vetting investigations.
The second line of vetting is through automatic checks of U.S. government databases. Applicants are frequently refused entry based on adverse information that would not have been discovered had the person arrived illegally with no identity documents at the border.
Meanwhile, at the border today, most “national security decisions” of who gets into our country are no longer made by American officers. Under President Joe Biden’s policies, what was once a privilege for aliens has become a right.
Despite what the Biden administration wishes the public to believe, there is no real “vetting” of those released at the border, nor of those allowed in under parole programs, much less of the “gotaways” who enter covertly between ports of entry without inspection. The official visa “front door” competes with a wide-open back door at the border, where there are no routine criminal background checks using records from the person’s home country. Unless a foreign national has a record held by U.S. agencies, DHS is flying blind.
Concerning China specifically, Customs and Border Protection agents have reportedly reduced the number of standard questions asked of inadmissible Chinese aliens at the border from 40 to five.
But, however many questions, the process relies on an alien telling the truth and agents taking them at their word. Even if Customs and Border Protection requests additional information on an individual, China routinely ignores U.S. requests for verification of nationality, and they reportedly hide records of criminal and corruption cases.
DHS releases most aliens caught at the border with a Notice to Appear in immigration court—at a date far into the future. Aliens are then free to go wherever they want, with no way for ICE to easily find them.
There are more than 6 million aliens on ICE’s Non-Detained Docket, of whom only about 184,000 are tracked using what’s called Alternatives to Detention, which uses passive methods to track them, such as having the alien check in with ICE by phone every day. Only 2% of aliens tracked using Alternatives to Detention have actual GPS monitors.
To close this dangerous loophole, the U.S. needs to re-implement agreements with Mexico and Northern Triangle countries of Central America so that inadmissible aliens are not released into the interior of the U.S. pending the decision in their asylum cases, but instead remain in those countries as they await their determinations (the vast majority of which will result in their asylum applications being rejected).
Given the population, economy, and politics of China, the U.S. can never meet the demand for those seeking to enter our country illegally. The U.S. will at some point have to remove those who are ineligible to enter or remain, or else abandon the rule of law that made this country so attractive for so many immigrants in the first place.

Joe Biden is getting his clock cleaned, not that all the gears will ever work right again. But still, in an homage to Donald Trump and a sign of a dead campaign, Joe Biden is making desperation moves.
Before I get to the latest Biden pivot to Trump, I should remind you that Team Biden hinted recently that he should return to Trump’s immigration policy or suffer the consequences.

Zakaria nails Biden on the reality of illegal immigration. And he warned Democrats that Biden must pivot back to Trump’s border policies. Trump’s policies are “correct”, according to Zakaria. Further, he understands how illegals are gaming the current system: “the old asylum system is being gamed by millions of people.”
ZAKARIA: “The whole system is broken,” he said. “And Biden needs to confront that and say, you know, ‘We are going to have to reform the whole system.’ I would wish he’d do something much more extreme, like, say ‘the old asylum system is dead. No one is coming in through that process. You have to apply from your home country’.
MARGARET HOOVER: “Which was, which was a Trump policy.”
ZAKARIA: “Which was a Trump– and also Mexico, let– you know, you have to be in Mexico to apply. I think that’s all correct.”
HOOVER: “So strategically, you think [cross] if Biden would tack towards Trump policies he would have a better political chance?”
ZAKARIA: “Yeah. And by the way, it’s the right policy because the old asylum system is being gamed by millions of people.”

Biden called for a quadrupling of tariffs on electric vehicles from China, along with higher duties on metals and other clean energy products — expanding on tariffs first instituted by Trump in 2018.
China Joe wants to appear tough on his and Hunter’s former business partners. Just in time for the 2024 Presidential Election.
But Biden isn’t finished copying Trump’s moves.
Trump recognizes how China has used other countries to thwart US trade laws. Thus, he wants to go much further. Trump proposes tariffs on electric vehicles coming from the U.S.’s largest trading partner — Mexico.
Fearing a coming flood of cheap Chinese cars produced south of the border, the former president and his advisers are planning to impose steep auto tariffs on Mexico if it does not agree to halt the shipment of Chinese-made EVs into the U.S., according to federal lawmakers and three former Trump administration officials with knowledge of his plans.
At his massive rally in New Jersey, Trump announced,
“I will put a 200 percent tax on every car that comes in from those plants”

Trump’s comments are more than just campaign bluster. Those close to Trump say he and informal policy advisers like his ex-trade chief Robert Lighthizer are actively planning to impose tariffs on cars from Mexico, if that country’s government — which will be in new hands after a June 2024 election — does not agree to stem the tide of cheap Chinese cars. Those tariffs could hit just Chinese-made vehicles from Mexico — coming from companies like BYD, which plans to build plants in the country — or be applied more broadly on all imports from south of the border, said the figures close to the former president, granted anonymity to discuss policy plans.
“I’ve talked to the former president himself about this,” said Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), one of Trump’s most steadfast allies in the Senate, who has proposed legislation for tariffs over 100 percent auto imports from Mexico. “I think his views are well known, and Bob Lighthizer — I think he’s a real leader on this, and he and I talk frequently.”
What Americans like about Trump is that he says what he means and means what he says.
And Team Biden is taking notes.
Some Democrats are already pushing Biden to take a similar stand on auto imports from Mexico. They are concerned — like the Trump advisers — that Chinese companies will ship cars through Mexico to avoid the tariffs on EVs from China first imposed by Trump, which Biden will quadruple today.
Trump understands the global economy. And he understands competition. He doesn’t fault China for wanting a better deal. Trump believes America can negotiate the best deals, and then make sure our “competition” lives up to the agreements.
The “consequences will be grave” if President Joe Biden can’t find the “political courage to stand up to radicals on his left flank” and support Israel, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell warned in a speech on the Senate floor Thursday.
“Other allies who rely on ‘ironclad’ guarantees from America will question our commitment,” the Kentucky Republican said while speaking out against Biden’s warnings that U.S. weapons will not be used in an Israeli attack on Rafah out of concerns for civilian casualties.
McConnell said that Biden’s refusal to back an ally at war will backfire.
“Nations on the fence, in the middle of a major power competition for influence, will look elsewhere for their own security, and our enemies will be emboldened,” the senator said.
McConnell acknowledged that “war is hell” and “innocent noncombatants suffer,” but still, “civilized nations hold themselves to the highest standards and take deliberate care to minimize harm to civilians.”
Israel, he added, goes to “great lengths” to avoid civilian casualties, including accepting “great risk” to its soldiers to avoid endangering innocent civilians.
“But the forces sworn to erase Israel from the earth follow a different code,” he said. “[To] Hamas, civilian casualties are not tragedies; they’re tools of the trade.”
“To these savages, kidnapping, torture, rape, and murder aren’t crimes; they’re tactics,” McConnell said. “For terrorists around the world, human suffering is the weapon of choice. And Hamas seeks to magnify it.”
He added that Israel tried to avoid the war, including negotiating a cease-fire, but Hamas “used this cease-fire to plan and prepare for war” and launched its attacks on Oct. 7.
Hamas also chose to put fighting positions in hospitals, schools, and the United Nations, while directly attacking humanitarian aid crossings to exploit human suffering “because it works.”
“They know the media will cover it — ‘if it bleeds, it leads’ — because they know it creates an international rush to blame Israel,” said McConnell.
This has led to “leftist fifth columns and useful idiots on university campuses” to express solidarity with the terrorists and forcing Biden to choose between a “supposedly ‘ironclad’ commitment to an ally under attack and the will of his leftist political base.”
And, McConnell said, “Hamas bet correctly.”
McConnell further warned that Biden is old enough to remember the 1968 protests at the Democratic National Convention, but he doesn’t choose to heed what happened.
“Caving to the college radicals will only whet their appetite to spend the summer demanding further anti-Israel concessions at his party’s convention,” said McConnell.

A trove of unsealed documents connected with the investigation into allegations that former President Donald Trump mishandled classified materials has revealed that several top Biden administration officials were working with the National Archives to help bring Special Counsel Jack Smith’s case against him.
Lawyers representing Trump in the Florida case compiled court exhibits consisting of more than 300 pages of unredacted items, including emails and other correspondence showing that Deputy White House Counsel Jonathan Su had been regularly communicating with National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) National Archive officials, as had the Department of Justice, reports Real Clear Investigations’ Julie Kelly. The correspondence also indicates that the Department of Justice had been communicating with NARA throughout most of 2021, even though it had claimed it became involved only after the Archives had sent in a criminal referral on Feb. 9, 2022. The referral was based on the Archives reporting that records with “classified markings” were included among the 15 boxes of materials Trump had turned in.
President Joe Biden, who denied involvement in the investigation, was not specifically named in the exhibits, which Trump’s attorneys filed in January.
The items were at first heavily redacted, but the team asked U.S. District Court judge Aileen Cannon, the judge presiding over the case to remove many of the redactions.
Meanwhile, Smith claimed that releasing the materials would jeopardize his investigation, reveal potential witnesses, and potentially subject them to risks of harassment and intimidation.
Cannon, however, posted the mostly unredacted archives on April 22, and a comparison of the redacted and the unredacted materials showed the coordination between NARA and the DOJ, the White House, and the intelligence community.
The documents revealed that shortly after Trump left office in 2021, Biden’s Office of Records Management and the National Archives started making demands to the former president’s transition team and Mark Meadows, his chief of staff. Archives general counsel Gary Stern emailed Trump’s team in May 2021, the unredacted documents show, and asked the attorneys to account for almost 2 dozen original presidential records that were not transferred.
He did not specify any particular records except for “original correspondence between President Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jung-un” and “the letter that President Obama left for President Trump on his first day in office.”
One of the unsealed FBI reports indicated the Archives also wanted to get hold of a map that Trump had drawn on with a Sharpie during a 2018 briefing on the track of Hurricane Dorian.
David Ferriero, a national archivist appointed by Barack Obama in 2009, warned the Trump transition team in June 2021 that he was “running out of patience, and on Aug. 30 told Trump’s team that he assumed the boxes were destroyed and he would have to report the loss to lawmakers, the DOJ, and the White House.
Other documents showed evidence that White House lawyers were advising the archives, including a draft letter accompanying a Sept. 1, 2021 email where Stern said he had advised White House counsel about the documents.
The letter, from Ferriero to Attorney General Merrick Garland, said that presidential records “may have been unlawfully removed from U.S. government custody or possibly destroyed.”

The Democratic National Committee helped pay President Joe Biden’s legal fees during the special counsel investigation into his handling of classified documents, Axios reported. The news outlet attributed the information to two people familiar with the matter and a review of campaign finance records. Axios, citing the DNC’S financial filings, said the committee paid more than $1.5 million to attorneys representing Biden during the probe. The news outlet said the payments are at odds with the Biden campaign’s recent criticism of former President Donald Trump for spending campaign funds on legal fees. The report said the DNC’s financial filings revealed that from July 2023 to February 2024, just more than $1 million was paid by the DNC to Bob Bauers PLLC, which is the professional limited liability company for Bob Bauers, Biden’s lead attorney. Those payments largely were for handling the probe.
And last July, the DNC upped its monthly payments to the law firm of Hemenway & Barnes from $15,000 to $100,000. Special counsel Robert Hur’s report identified Jennifer Miller, who works at the law firm, as an attorney for Biden. It is unclear how much of the additional funds were earmarked for Biden’s legal fee, Axios said. Hur declined to pursue charges against Biden.
The DNC has blasted Trump for using campaign donations to pay for legal fees. The Washington Post said that after a recent Trump fundraiser, a deputy campaign manager for Biden called it “a handful of billionaires figuring out how to pay his legal bills.”
DNC spokesperson Alex Floyd told Axios: “There is no comparison — the DNC does not spend a single penny of grassroots donors’ money on legal bills — unlike Donald Trump, who actively solicits legal fees from his supporters and has drawn down every bank account he can get his hands on, like a personal piggy bank.”
Trump has denied any wrongdoing and blasted the lengthy list of felony charges and lawsuits as partisan attempts to upend his presidential bid.
