Theft of dozens of propane tanks, purchase of 150 prepaid cell phones in Missouri puts FBI on alert

A large portion of the phones were bought by “three men with accents” at one Walmart near the town of Lebanon, Jefferson City police said. The purchases were made very late, at 3:50am local time on Saturday, authorities said for 59 of the phones. Although the three men were questioned by authorities, nothing further could be done, as there were no grounds for detention. It was then that the FBI was notified by the Laclede County Sheriff.Do you want

The second instance of large purchases was registered on Monday by police in Columbia, two hours north of Lebanon. Five or more men were behind that purchase, which occurred last Friday at 9:30pm.

The same issue is being investigated by Macon Police, where a purchase happened on Saturday, as well as Jackson Police, who are investigating the purchase of 48 prepaid phones on Friday, and Cape Girardieu, where 10 cell phones were purchased, according to KFVS.

The FBI is not ruling anything out, and has asked Missouri residents to notify authorities if they witness anything out of place.

Further to the mobile phone scare, agents are now drawing a connection to the disappearance of dozens of tanks of highly flammable propane gas around locations in Missouri. This elevates the possible connection to a potential terrorist plot, as the local mood seems to indicate. The tanks were stolen from several locations in Independence and Lee’s Summit, according to Fox 4.

The first theft was reported at the end of November by a BP gas station in Lee’s Summit. At least 18 propane tanks were stolen from the cages situated outside. Later that night, another gas station in the area reported the same story. Two weeks after that, 28 tanks were stolen from a gas station in Independence.against America

Although an investigation is underway, not everyone is eager to connect the propane tanks with the mobile phones. Retired FBI agent Michael Tabman is stopping short of suspecting a terror plot: “Certainly, [when] we hear something about gas being stolen, we worry about a potential bomb. The good news is this is probably not part of terrorist planning for a number of reasons,” he told Fox 4. “One is they wouldn’t steal these items because they know that would attract law enforcement’s attention. Also this would not be a tool of choice.”

There still remains the question of the mobile phones. The devices are prepaid and therefore, hard to trace.

From the if-a-tree-falls-in-the-forest files: A group of fifth-graders in Clifton, N.J., decided that their field trip to the city’s high school on Wednesday deserved to go off with a bang, not a whimper.Clifton School

So the little darlings, which included one female, concocted a device using cinnamon and vinegar that they were led to believe would explode.

The Bergen Record spoke with Clifton Police Detective Sgt. Robert Bracken, who said he has “no idea” where the students got the plans for “their bomb.”

School officials discovered papers around 9 a.m. Wednesday, allegedly detailing plans to bring the device to Clifton High School and set it off, … Bracken said. The device was found at the school, he said.

The device, he added, contained no explosives and ultimately “wasn’t dangerous to anybody” but that the children, aged 10 or 11, “thought it was capable of doing damage. Their intent was to … cause damage inside the auditorium where people were.”

The five students have all been suspended and, thus far, reportedly in the custody of their families. The Bergen record indicates that no charges have been brought so far and that the case has been turned over to the county prosecutor’s office. But WABC in New York reports that the children have been arrested.

In any case, the incident makes you wonder when such relatively harmless pranks such as setting off a stink bomb became too uncool for school.

No information is available on the ethnicity of the students, but since Clifton is a predominantly white community, chances are that they are not members of a protected class and, therefore, unlikely to receive a tweet from the president commending them on their “cool bomb.”

Teen charged in 91-year-old man’s death, burning

Steward is accused in the killing of Paul Monchnik, a retired TV repairman, in the early hours of Monday morning. Police have said that the assailant had entered the elderly man’s home intending to steal, but that an attack soon followed — and then the assailant, to cover his tracks, ended up buying gasoline and lighting the home on fire.

When authorities were called on reports of a fire at about 3 a.m. Monday, they found Monchnik with a head injury and severe burns all over his body. Monchnik was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The word ‘heinous’ does not even begin to describe this crime,” said Prosecutor Kym Worthy in a statement.

Monchnik was a widowed father of three who lived by himself and had been in the house for 65 years. Monchnik was nearly deaf but thriving in his old age, keeping himself well-groomed and reading newspapers to stay informed, said his son Scott Monchnik, 56, of West Bloomfield. Reached Wednesday night, the son said everything about the case shocked him.

“These neighbors, actually, have been helping my dad for years. So I’m really having a hard time getting my head around the idea that someone from their family was involved,” Scott Monchnik said.

“But I’m very glad they went to police. And I’m very glad that this person is off the streets, so he cannot do harm to anybody else,” the son said.

Steward’s arraignment is scheduled for Thursday morning in 34th District Court in Romulus.

Citizens With AR-15s Surround Texas Mosque… Send Unmistakable Message to Muslims

A group calling itself the Bureau on American-Islamic Relations, or BAIR, gathered outside an Irving, Texas, mosque on Saturday, armed with AR-15s and claiming they were protesting “the Islamization of America” and the continued influx of Syrian refugees in the face of brutal Islamic terrorism.

According to KDFW-TV, the group picketing outside the Islamic Center of Irving numbered about 15. One carried a placard that said “Solution to Islamic terrorism,” with an arrow pointing to another protester — an armed man in fatigues.

The protests took place with heavy police presence, including a SWAT team on standby. However, no incidents were reported.

“We are here protesting Syrian refugees coming to America, protesting the Islamization of America,” said David Wright, BAIR spokesman.

“I think the popular belief is, people are scared. They’re scared to say anything about it. They’re scared to come out to a place like this and stand in front of a mosque and protest Islam.”

As for the AR-15s, BAIR said they were necessary for the purposes of the protest.

“We do want to show force,” Wright said. “It would be ridiculous to protest Islam without defending ourselves.”

Protesters insisted they were being unfairly pegged as racists.

“It’s a boiling pot. The kettle … the top on this kettle is on really really tight and it is going to blow,” said a protester who didn’t want his name publicized. “I may look like their version of a racist but I’m not. I’m not even a racist here. I just don’t want them to push their beliefs down my throat.”

The city where the protest took place is no accident. Although perhaps best known as the home of the Dallas Cowboys, Irving was also the home to Muslim teenager Ahmed “Bomb Clock” Mohamed, the 13-year-old whose “homemade” clock looked enough like a bomb to get him taken out of school in handcuffs for it in September.

In addition, Irving also was home to what was to be the first Shariah law court in America earlier this year. However, city officials intervened and the project was halted.

Missouri’s Lesson: the Campus Wars Are about Power, Not Justice

Words are suppose to hurtEarlier this morning, Tim Wolfe, the president of the University of Missouri system, abruptly resigned. Why? The popular narrative is that his “inadequate” response to a series of racist incidents on campus triggered a massive student backlash, including an unprecedented “strike” by the university’s football team, and he finally caved to the pressure.

offendedYet this explanation collapses under the slightest scrutiny. The idea that Wolfe presided over a racially insensitive educational empire is a sad joke. A timeline of racial outrages in Columbia is sparse indeed, showing two allegations of racial name-calling (on a campus with 35,000 students) and one disturbing incident in which a swastika was drawn on a dorm wall with human waste.

No rational, sentient human being believes system presidents can be responsible for what lunatics do with their own feces, or that they can prevent any given student from shouting racial slurs. Not even the worst communist dictatorships could control the speech of all their subjects. Wolfe couldn’t stop drunk undergraduates from hurling insensitive insults even if he established his own gulag and deployed commissars across campus.defend

His deposition has nothing to do with justice and everything to do with power. The campus culture wars aren’t about “victims” or “racial injustice” or “safe spaces.” People who shriek in the quad, launch hunger strikes in a blaze of publicity, or stand outside free-speech events and chant for censorship aren’t anyone’s victims. They’re not weak. They don’t need “protection.” They’re revolutionaries, and the revolution they seek is nothing less than the overthrow of our constitutional republic, beginning with our universities.mob rule tyranny

They hate free speech because free speech represents nothing but a threat — a chance for dissenters to expose the bankruptcy of their ideas. They hate due process because due process stands in the way of class-based justice, of identity-based jurisprudence. They hate the orthodox Christian faith because it rejects their sexual ideology and places the human conscience beyond the reach of mortal man.

It’s a movement enabled by weakness and empowered by cowardice. Only the intellectually and emotionally weak fall for the notion that students truly are “traumatized” by exposure to dissenting ideas. Only cowards lack the conviction to stand for the most basic American constitutional values, preferring capitulation to enduring even a few days or weeks of public critique.better

Fortunately for the radicals, our universities are populated by the craven and the cowardly. Push a professor, even slightly, and it’s likely he’ll fold. Demand faculty support for your protest, and dozens will rush to join, self-righteously advancing their own false oppression narratives even as they enjoy lives billions of others would covet. There is nothing brave about these people. They are not “elite.” They don’t deserve a single dime of taxpayer money or one cent of student tuition. They dishonor their schools and their country.mob rule of law

Closeted campus conservatives are worse than useless. Indeed, their very timidity contributes to the narrative that there is something shameful about their beliefs. To read anonymous letters from professors who are afraid to “out” themselves in a hostile campus culture is to Freedom os Speechread the sad dispatches of people too pitiful for their profession. Do something else, anything else, than merely sit and watch while the revolutionaries shred the Constitution, reject our culture, and assert their own will to power.

The true shame is that it doesn’t even require actual courage to defeat the university Left, just a tiny bit of will — a small measure of staying power. No one is shooting at trustees. No one is beheading professors. There’s no guillotine in the quad. Instead, campus “leaders” tremble before hashtags and weep at the notion of losing a football team so inept that it couldn’t score a touchdown through most of the month of October. Let them strike. With an offense that inept, the SEC won’t even notice.AMEN

These are the times that try men’s souls? No. These are the times of men without chests. The Left has the will to power. University leaders have no will at all. They have earned nothing but contempt.

ISIS-linked tweet praises Calif. university stabber as details on his background emerge

As authorities worked to establish a motive for the 18-year-old college freshman who stabbed four people on a California campus Wednesday, more disturbing details emerged about the attacker. Faisal Mohammad, who was killed by University of California Merced police, was described by at least one witness as smiling as he slashed at victims, called a loner by a fellow dorm resident and drew praise Thursday from a Twitter account associated with ISIS, which just last week released a series of videos calling for lone wolf stabbing attacks.

“May Allah accept him,” read a tweet in Arabic from a Twitter account that terrorism experts say has carried previous ISIS propaganda, just minutes after Mohammad’s name was divulged by campus authorities.against America

Investigators revealed more information in a news conference Thursday afternoon.

UC Merced Chancellor Dorothy Leland said that personal animosities, not a political agenda, motivated the 18-year-old. LeLand said Mohammad was a student in the class he attacked Wednesday, but authorities didn’t know if he targeted someone in particular.

Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke added that a bomb squad recovered Mohammad’s backpack, which contained items including petroleum jelly. He described the substance as a “poor man’s C-4,” a military-grade explosive.

Warnke said there was also a handwritten list of items to put in the backpack, and officials recovered them all except for scissors.

Warnke added that there was nothing to indicate Mohammad would lash out violently.

“He had a smile on his face, he was having fun,” a construction worker who helped stop the attacker told CBS 47.

A suitemate said Mohammad “didn’t talk much.” Speaking to KFSN, Andrew Velasquez said he never saw the stabber walking to class with anyone, adding, “Every time I would try and say something he would just ignore it.”

Campus police shot and killed Mohammad, a computer science & engineering major who graduated from Wilcox High School in Santa Clara last June. Police detonated his backpack and are testing a substance inside, KGO reports.

The four victims are expected to survive. Authorities say Mohammad was armed with a hunting knife, and that its blade was 8 to 10 inches long.

The construction worker ran into the classroom to stop the attack, saying he’d initially thought it was a fight. Byron Price, 31, was working on remodeling a waiting room when he heard a commotion and rushed to check on it.

Price told CBS 47, “It was a really big knife and he was swinging it down so I figured if I was on the ground and my feet were at him, he could get my legs and not my body.”

“I really believe he’s a hero here. I think he prevented this first student from dying,” Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke said. “The cops on campus, oh my gosh, praise them because they stopped a threat, but this first guy, he stopped a death.”

Two of the injured had to be airlifted to nearby hospitals, and the other two were treated on campus. The incident began when the assailant used the knife to stab two people in a second-floor room around the start of an 8 a.m. class.

Warnke said the suspect fled the room after attacking the construction worker and ran down two flights of stairs to the outside where he stabbed a school employee sitting on a bench. The suspect fled the building. He was shot and killed by pursuing campus police on a nearby foot bridge.

All the victims were conscious when paramedics reached them, Assistant Vice Chancellor Patti Waid said.

Lensy Maravilla, 19, a first-year student, said she was in a biology class on the second floor of the same building, when a female student ran in. Maravilla said the student “was crying hysterically and came in and said that she had seen somebody get stabbed, or slashed, in the throat and she ran.”

The main road to enter the campus remained closed to outside traffic Wednesday night and classes were canceled until Friday at the university, which is about 120 miles south of Sacramento in the farm-rich San Joaquin Valley. Police were allowing students who live on campus to come and go, but anxious parents waited in their vehicles at the end of the dark roadway about a half mile from the campus entrance.

The Twitter account on which the attack was praised appears to be one of thousands that regularly reference ISIS, according to Terrorism Research & Analysis Consortium (TRAC), which translated the message. Veryan Khan, of TRAC, which monitors ISIS and other groups on social media, said ISIS mounted a call for stabbings on Oct. 18, with the release 19 videos, but could not say what motivated Wednesday’s attack.

“Over the past three days, the Islamic State has released nineteen videos encouraging Palestinians stabbing attacks on Israel,” Khan said. “The media campaign coincides with a wave of renewed violence between Israel and Palestine, after a wave of seemingly lone wolf attacks by Palestinians targeting Israelis.”culture of deceit and lies

The girl – Devina Keswani – used to be a boy named Dev. But since she had the misfortune of being born to parents with the combined intellect of a fruit fly, she has since “transitioned” into her female form. At the age of six.What did you say 05.jpg

The series follows her family as they usher their child into one of the worst lives imaginable. Seriously. The Keswanis have been watching the news, right? They’ve seen the studies that say transgenders are at extraordinarily high risk of being bullied? That they lead sad lives. That they commit suicide at high rates? What kind of parents would want that life for their child? This is just sick. We take children away from parents who let them play at the park without adult supervision, but we let this family breed mental illness.

So what do you do when confronted with this peculiar behavior? Do you try to discourage it? No, of course not. You let them become a girl. And if your kid shows signs of being into killing helpless animals, you should definitely encourage that as well. The point of life is to live as your authentic self, right? Sure. There’s no right or wrong. Just do whatever you want. What a great philosophy. It will surely help this country achieve great things well into the future.

“Family support is the number one way to ensure that your child will have a happy and healthy transition,” says Devina’s 15-year-old transgender friend, Lily Rubenstein. “The Keswanis are setting the example here. Because of their support, Devina has been able to live a happy and authentic life. There is nothing better than being able to do that.”More Evidence

What kind of a fantasy world do these people live in where they think this poor child is going to live a happy life? Because unless something shifts dramatically over the next ten years, it’s not going to be easy for her. She’s going to be at the fringe of society. This is a fact. For every Caitlyn Jenner, there are hundreds of transgender boys and girls who are thoroughly miserable.

Because these people are living lives of absolute absurdity. There’s no happiness there. And look, you should be free to do whatever you like as long as it’s not harming anyone. If the kid on this show grew up and decided he wanted to live his life as a woman, go for it. No one’s going to stop you. But for a family to push this on a child who doesn’t have a concept of what they’re buying into. It’s sickening.AMEN

But what’s more sickening is this attempt to make it mainstream. To encourage other parents to follow in the Keswanis footsteps, and to make it seem like it’s somehow inhumane to do otherwise. That’s really sick, and it’s going to cause so many people to live lives of unending misery.

Report: Black Lives Matter Cheers New York Officer’s Death

Should you need any further proof that the Obama/Sharpton/Clinton-supported Black Lives Matter movement is more about hatred of police officers than it is about actual ‘black lives,’ this is it.

Retired NYPD officer and current radio talk show host, John Cardillo, reported that protesters were at the scene of the hospital where officer Officer Randolph Holder would succumb to being shot in the line of duty.

Cardillo was at the hospital and earlier reports show that information he was relaying from police officer’s at the scene was accurate. But why would Black Lives Matter activists cheer the killing of an immigrant officer who is … black?

The answer?  They hate police officers, plain and simple.  Does Holder’s life not matter?

In December, a Daily Beast reporter made similar claims when two NYPD officers, Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, were executed. Via Liberty Unyielding:

[T]he scene outside Woodhull Hospital wasn’t entirely supportive. “You’re a bunch of killers,” a passerby told cops standing sentry there, according to one police source. And short distance from the crime scene — where a crowd was backed up by the police tape — a few members of the crowd repeated “f*ck the cops” within earshot of a Daily Beast reporter. One 30-year-old local who gave his first name only as Carlos, didn’t hear the fatal gunfire but saw the hysteria aftewards and walked to the police tape. “A lot of people were clapping and laughing,” he said. “Some were saying, ‘They deserved it,’ and another was shouting at the cops, ‘Serves them right because you mistreat people!’” he said.

Cardillo didn’t mince words, placing the blame for Black Lives Matter’s hatred of police officers squarely on the shoulders of a select few.

On Thursday morning, police say 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer  shot and killed at least nine people on the Umpqua Community College (UCC) campus before officers shot and killed him.A new report claims someone appearing to be Mercer wrote longingly of the attention given to Vester Lee Flanagan after he shot a television reporter and cameraman on air in Virginia. Mercer wounded at least seven people in addition to those he killed on the gun free UCC campus, law enforcement says.

According to CBS News, a blog which appears to be Mercer’s “[referenced] multiple shootings,” including the shooting carried out by Flanagan on August 26.

Regarding Flanagan, Mercer allegedly wrote:

I have noticed that so many people like [Flanagan] are alone and unknown, yet when they spill a little blood, the whole world knows who they are. A man who was known by no one, is now known by everyone. His face splashed across every screen, his name across the lips of every person on the planet, all in the course of one day. Seems like the more people you kill, the more you’re in the limelight.

During an evening press conference on the attack, Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin asked media not to use the gunman’s name–not to give him the celebrity he may have been seeking via the attack.

Cops shoot and kill alleged gunman who murdered rookie Kentucky state trooper

A man suspected of killing a Kentucky trooper was shot and killed by state police early Monday morning, police confirmed to FoxNews.com.

Authorities said 25-year-old Joseph Thomas Johnson-Shanks, of Missouri, was located in a remote rural area near I-24 around 7 a.m., following an all-night manhunt. Johnson-Shanks was armed with a handgun and did not comply with several commands to drop his weapon, according to Sgt. Mike Webb.

“That gave the trooper closest to him no choice but to fire his agency-issued weapon, striking him multiple times,” Webb said.

Johnson-Shanks was arrested while police waited for EMS at the scene and he died from his injuries at a local hospital at 8:23 a.m. Webb said he wasn’t aware of any statements Johnson-Shanks may have made prior to being shot.

A statement released early Monday said that Trooper Joseph Cameron Ponder, 31, was pronounced dead at a Princeton, Ky., hospital after being shot multiple times late Sunday night. Ponder had been a state trooper since January of this year.

The statement said that Ponder was conducting a traffic stop Sunday on the westbound side of Interstate 24 in the western part of the state at about 10:20 p.m. local time. The statement said that the driver who was being stopped took off from the scene, with Ponder pursuing him for approximately nine miles.

At that point, according to the statement, the suspect’s car abruptly stopped, causing Ponder to crash his car into the vehicle. Police say the driver, Johnson-Shanks, got out of the car and started shooting at Ponder, hitting him multiple times. Bullets also struck the hood and windshield of the police cruiser, authorities said.

After the shooting, authorities said that Johnson-Shanks fled the scene on foot and was considered armed and dangerous. Interstate 24 was shut down in both directions early Monday to assist in the search.

“Pray for our guys that are out here,” Kentucky County Executive Wade White told reporters, according to KVFS.

Ponder, from Rineyville, was a U.S. Navy veteran who was stationed at the police post in Mayfield after graduating from the academy, KVFS reported. He reportedly had plans to move closer to home within the next year.

It didn’t take long for Shannon Watts of Moms Demand Action to blame the NRA’s agenda of “guns anywhere, anytime, for anyone” for the fatal shooting of Kentucky State Trooper Joseph Ponder. Suspect Joseph Thomas Johnson-Shanks, 25, was reportedly killed by police during a subsequent manhunt in a wooded area close to Interstate 24.

Rather than pointing fingers at the NRA, Watts and others might want to look into the #BlackLivesMatter movement. According to the New York Daily News, photos posted to Johnson-Shanks’ Facebook page show him not only at several protests over the death of Michael Brown, but at Brown’s funeral as well. Other photos show him with his arms raised along with the caption, “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot.”

A Colorado police chief urged calm after shots were fired at his police officers. Aurora Police Chief Nick Metz urges his officers to stay the course, according to a 9NewsNBC report. “They’re a little on edge, but at the same time, they are being incredibly professional,” Metz told reporters in Aurora. The city of Aurora is adjacent to Denver.

On Tuesday, Breitbart News’ John Sexton, reported on a 911 call where the caller made death threats against police in Denver and Aurora. “It is time that you guys know we are no longer playing around with the police departments,” the anonymous caller said. “Aurora and Denver, we are about to start striking fear shooting down all cops that we see by their selves. This will go for the sheriff’s department. You guys are evicting innocent people. Let us catch you by yourself and it’s shots fired.”line of duty deaths

Four hours later, Aurora police were responding to a call for service when shots rang out. As police officers arrived to the scene of the unrelated service call, they hears shots, according to another 9NewsNBC report. Shortly after that, shots were fired towards the officers.

The shooting follows a string of attacks over the past weeks that left a Harris County sheriff’s deputy, Darren Goforth, and a Chicago area police lieutenant, Joe Gliniewicz dead. On Sunday, two Las Vegas Metro police officers were shot at during an ambush where the shooter walked up to the patrol car and opened fire. One of the officers was struck in the hand. He was taken to the hospital where he was treated for his injury.end of watch

Earlier this week, three Floridians came to the rescue of a Polk County sheriff’s deputy who was being beaten after stopping a man for running a stop sign. Deputy Mike Walsh suffered a broken thumb and multiple bruises during the fight.

Police in Denver and Aurora take the threatening 911 call very seriously. “Somebody put a great deal of thought into that message and how they were going to deliver that message,” Chief Metz told reporters. “We can’t afford to brush off threats like that.”

While some attack the thin line that protects all Americans, Mike Rowe has come to the defense of America’s embattled police officers. Rowe recently posted on his Facebook page a tribute to police officers written by Paul Harvey and first posted on YouTube in 2013.

“What is a policeman made of?” wrote Harvey, the former radio journalist whose father was a police officer killed when Harvey was only 3. “He, of all men, is once the most needed and the most unwanted. He’s a strangely nameless creature who is ‘sir’ to his face and ‘fuzz’ to his back.”

“If you’ve seen this before, I suspect it’s been on your mind. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it,” wrote Rowe, current host of CNN’s Somebody’s Gotta Do It and former host of the Discovery Channel series Dirty Jobs.

The post was a hit with Facebook readers.

“As a police officer I wanted to thank you for posting this. This narration is one of my favorites because it couldn’t be more true,” wrote Joseph Green. “I don’t know when exactly, or why for that matter, police have become demonized. It is very disheartening that the profession I chose because I felt it was very honorable has become a hot button issue and the impetus for moral strife. You wield tremendous power and influence over the public, whether you recognize it or not, and I wanted to let you know that I’m glad you brought this to the masses.”

Others were more succinct.

“Thanks to all the police officers that keep our streets safe and catch the bad guys,” wrote Amber Hopek.

‪Harvey’s tribute reflects the reality that in all times, police officers face the scrutiny of the public.

“Gulled statistics wave the fan over the stinkers, underscore instances of dishonesty and brutality because they are ‘new.’ What they really mean is that they are exceptional, unusual, not commonplace,” Harvey wrote. “Buried under the frost is the fact: Less than one-half of one percent of policemen misfit the uniform. That’s a better average than you’d find among clergy!”

Harvey then goes on to note the ways in which a police officer is expected to perform opposite tasks at the same time and is never given any credit when things go right, and only blame when they go wrong.

“The policeman must be a minister, a social worker, a diplomat, a tough guy and a gentleman,” Harvey concludes. “And, of course, he’d have to be genius. … For he will have to feed a family on a policeman’s salary.”

In one case, the behavior of community members who are mad as hell and not going to take it anymore took a more tangible form. On Sunday, three strangers driving past a sheriff’s deputy in Winter Haven, Fla., saw that the officer was in distress and independently sprung into action. One of them, George Cooper, was on his way to breakfast when he witnessed the attack on the deputy by a black man. Cooper, himself black, was joined by two other drivers in subduing the aggressor, who — it turns out — had run a stop sign and nearly run down the deputy, Mike Walsh.

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) –

Two people were arrested and a third person is being sought after a shooting that left a Las Vegas Metro police officer wounded Friday morning. The shooting happened about 4 a.m. at a home in the 6700 block of Oveja Circle, near the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Alta Drive.

According to Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, Officer Jeremy Robertson and his partner were called to the home after the resident reported that someone was trying to break into the house. The officers arrived, met with the caller at the front door and walked to the back door, where the prowler was last seen. The officers were met with gunfire when they opened the back door. Robertson was shot in one of his legs by an AK-47 and fell to the ground. His partner returned fire, wounding one of the two people in the backyard.Leftist monster race

Lombardo said assisting units arrived and one of them deployed a K-9, which stopped 20-year-old Clemon Hudson, who was armed with a shotgun, from fleeing. Hudson was arrested.

Police established a perimeter and began looking for the second person believed to be involved in the shooting, Lombardo said. About three hours later, 24-year-old Steven Turner, who was the person who fired the AK-47, was found walking on a street about two blocks away from the scene.

Lombardo said investigators believe a third person involved in the shooting may have fled the scene in a white Nissan Maxima before officers arrived.

Robertson underwent surgery at University Medical Center and was expected to recover, Lombardo said.

Hudson was treated for dog bites, Lombardo said.

Turner was treated for a gunshot wound to one of his legs, Lombardo said.

Lombardo said investigators do not believe that Hudson or Turner knew the homeowner, and they are still trying to determine the reason they were in the neighborhood.

Two women in Madison, Wisconsin were arrested Wednesday night after punching and threatening to kill a police officer who was responding to a 911 call about a nearby street brawl.

Within minutes of arriving on the scene, police said the officer attempted to arrest a woman he saw punch a man in the face but was quickly overwhelmed by a mob of people chanting anti-police slurs, including “We need to start killing these officers.”Leftist monster race

Police said Nanyamka N. James, 20, attacked the officer in an attempt to free her mother, Latonya B. James, 40, WISCTV reported. The mother grabbed the officer by the throat and punched him in the face, according to a Madison Police Department press release.

One witness told police that they heard the mother repeatedly threatening to kill the officer.

The mother was arrested for battery to a law enforcement officer, possession of pepper spray, and resisting arrest, according to the Madison Police. Nanyamka N. James, who is on parole, was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

 (CNN)A 30-year-old Texas man faces capital murder charges in connection with the “execution-style shooting” of Deputy Darren H. Goforth at a Houston-area gas station, Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman said Saturday.

The suspect, identified as Shannon J. Miles, had been in police custody since early Saturday, even as authorities pleaded for the public’s help in identifying the man who fatally shot the sheriff’s deputy in the back in what was described as a “cold-blooded execution.”

Miles criminal history includes charges of resisting arrest, trespassing, evading detention and disorderly conduct with a firearm, Hickman said.

The motive in the Friday shooting, which Hickman described as “senseless and cowardly,” is still unclear, but Goforth appears to have been targeted merely “because he wore a uniform,” the sheriff told reporters. “We found no other motive or indication that it was anything other than that,” said Hickman, adding that he doesn’t believe the suspect and Goforth knew each other.

Hickman said “a big gun … a handgun” was used in the shooting and ballistic tests on a weapon that was recovered matched the one used to kill Goforth.

Residents near the scene of the shooting as well as the tracking of a vehicle used by Miles helped lead investigators to the suspect.

“Our deputies returned to the streets … to hold a delicate peace that was shattered last evening,” Hickman said.

Earlier Saturday, Sgt. William Kennard of the Texas Department of Public Safety said a man “believed to be the alleged gunman” was in custody and being questioned, though he hadn’t been charged. The sheriff said surveillance video shows people drove up to the Chevron station while the shooting was happening, and he asked them to come forward. “This is the kind of thing that drives you right down to your soul,” Hickman said. “It strikes at the heart of who we are as peace officers. …This was just a cold-blooded execution.”His Life Matters

‘Execution-style’ killing

The suspect shot Goforth, 47, while the deputy was filling up his patrol car at the station just after 8:30 p.m. (9:30 p.m. ET), Hickman said. “Deputy Goforth was refueling his vehicle and returning to his car from inside the convenience store when, unprovoked, a man walked up behind him and literally shot him to death,” he said. Goforth was shot multiple times from behind and then fell to the ground, where the suspect shot the deputy multiple times again, said Deputy Thomas Gilliland, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.the facts

‘Absolute madness’

Investigators believed Hickman was targeted because of his uniform. Hickman said the motive appears to be “absolute madness.”

At a new conference before the arrest was announced, Hickman and Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson talked about the nationwide debate over the relationship between the police officers and the public, with the sheriff referring to what he called “dangerous national rhetoric.”Political-Cross-600-LA

Anderson said, “It is time for the silent majority in this country to support law enforcement. There are a few bad apples in every profession. That does not mean there should be open warfare declared on law enforcement.”

“When the rhetoric ramps up to the point where calculated, cold-blooded assassination of police officers happen, this rhetoric has gotten out of control,” Hickman said. “We’ve heard ‘Black Lives Matter,’ ‘All lives matter.’ Well, cops’ lives matter too. So why don’t we just drop the qualifier, and just say ‘Lives Matter,’ and take that to the bank.”

After announcing the arrest, Hickman said investigators were still trying to determine a motive. “The general climate of the that kind of rhetoric can be influential on people that do thing like that,” he said.

On the sheriff’s department Twitter page, a post Saturday afternoon read: “#BlueLivesMatter. #BlackLivesMatter. All #LivesMatter.”

Race Baiters 09The gunman, who was captured on the surveillance footage, drove away after the shooting in a red Ford Ranger, authorities said. Authorities said some bystanders called 911 to report the shooting.

About 30 minutes before the shooting, Goforth had investigated an accident, but authorities said it’s unclear whether there was a connection to the attack. As far as authorities know, Hickman said, the only reason Goforth was a target “was because he was wearing a uniform.”

A husband and father

Goforth leaves behind a wife and two children, ages 5 and 12.

“Our hearts go out to them,” Hickman said, asking the community to remember his family in prayer. “In times like these, it’s important to ask for the prayers from this community,” he said. “It strikes us in the heart to simply be a target because you wear a badge.”

A Houston-based nonprofit that supports the children and spouses of officers and firefighters who die on duty, said the group will give $20,000 to Goforth’s family.

After the first news conference about the shooting, held late Friday night, Hickman led a group of law enforcement officials in prayer.

Anderson called the killing “horrifying.”

“It’s an act of cowardice and brutality the likes of which I’ve never seen before,” she said.Race Baiters 04

Including the attack Friday, 23 law enforcement officers have been shot to death so far this year nationwide, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.

Traffic incidents are the leading cause of officer fatalities in the U.S., followed by shootings.

The Massively Popular Facebook Post Of A Totally Fake Map And The Tribes Who Were Obliterated By It


Education in America is bad and deficient. I hear that all the time. Unless you live in the woods or are a dead person come back to haunt my blog posts, you have also heard it time and again. Politically, both the left and the right make this claim, but obviously for different reasons.

On the right, the complaints are usually that no one teaches about the founding fathers or the greatness of America anymore, that teachers are too leftist and liberal and teach social justice, and of course, COMMON CORE!!!!!!!!

On the left, the complaint is that schools just aren’t progressive enough. Science isn’t sciencey enough, nobody talks about how evil America is, people still want to acknowledge that Civil War units had flags, and NOT ENOUGH COMMON CORE!!!!!!!

But one of the chief complaints from the left is that Americans teach a pollyana view of America that doesn’t account for her many awful and terrible atrocities against mankind and God and fine dining.

QUICK FACT: There is thing in smart talk called “confirmation bias,” and here is how it works: people develop a habit of interpreting things in a way that supports a conclusion that they’ve already drawn. A good example is the above two paragraphs about education.

Enter Facebook.

A post has gone viral on Facebook in the last few days that is a great example of these different views on education. Rather than describe the post to you, I will simply give you a screenshot of it. A picture is worth a thousand keyboard strokes.

As you can see, hundreds of thousands of people have shared this post. Here is what it looks like when it is shared, with the names and original message blurred so you can project your biases on to it. (I’m very accommodating.)

TribalMap1-1As you can see, the original message gets shared with the photo. I’ve seen this shared hundreds of times personally. Each time, taken uncritically as a truthful representation of the nations of Native American tribes prior to American colonization.

“I’ve never seen this map in my entire 25 years of formal education,” says the original post, a sentiment echoed thousands upon thousands of times. The implication being that the information was repressed because evil American teachers don’t want you to know the truth. But that implication is silly. Do you know why this map isn’t used in history class?

It isn’t history.

That’s right. This is a fictional map. It is made up. It is speculative. It is imaginary. This map is a look at theoretical North America TODAY if the insaneEuropeans had never come here and colonized.

The fact that it has the date literally printed right on it seems to have escaped the notice of some three hundred thousand people.

This map was posted just eight days ago at the appropriately named Alternate History Weekly, which in turn got it from a Reddit post here. The most fun part of the Reddit link is that at the top of the page it suggests you “also check out /r/ImaginaryMaps.”

You want to complain about education? Here is my complaint: we don’t teach attention to detail or critical thinking. People accept as true something that confirms the beliefs they already bitterly cling to. So this work of fiction becomes an indictment of the racist nature of education in America because some people never saw it and, once they did, just accepted as true a premise that comes from … well who knows? As I said, the date is literally directly on it.

Three hundred. Thousand. People.

But wait, you may be thinking. Perhaps that is speculative, but is it really that bad? It can’t be that far off from the way it really was, right? The fact is we haven’t seen any full map of the tribes prior to colonization and have raised awareness so frankly, we don’t feel bad.

Prepare to feel bad.

QUICK FACT: Urban Dictionary defines “intellectual curiosity” as: A desire to learn more about a person, or a thing, or a way of life.

Now, this map is more complicated. And the fact is, it wasn’t easy to create. You see oh ye modern critical thinkers, contrary to your preconceived notions, not everything is a racist conspiracy. You might find this shocking, but “hey let’s draw the lines of this entire continent on a piece of paper in case some Facebook person wants to feel morally indignant in a few hundred years” was not top a societal concern for the tribes of North America. I bet it was barely even in their top ten, what with all the buffalo-related things to address.

The compilation and creation of this data was a huge undertaking. Histories had to be pieced together, evidence sifted through. Preserving the societal lines of demarcation for future generations just wasn’t de rigeur in early Native American life.

Just how hard was this to put together? From the NPR story on Aaron Carapella, the creator.

“I think a lot of people get blown away by, ‘Wow, there were a lot of tribes, and they covered the whole country!’ You know, this is Indian land,” says Carapella, who calls himself a “mixed-blood Cherokee” and lives in a ranch house within the jurisdiction of the Cherokee Nation.

For more than a decade, he consulted history books and library archives, called up tribal members and visited reservations as part of research for his map project, which began as pencil-marked poster boards on his bedroom wall. So far, he has designed maps of the continental U.S., Canada and Mexico. A map of Alaska is currently in the works.

“Hundreds of nations” some of which were “never recorded” and others appearing on maps for “the first time.” Do you see now how silly you really look? No?

It’s not merely that the map is a fiction, it is that it does not in any way represent the enormous diversity of tribes in North America prior to the arrival of Europeans. And even that information as we have it now, hopefully mostly correct, took a long time to put together because, contrary to your Eurocentric view of how societies operate, native American tribes didn’t find making maps of the entire continent to be that important! And tribes often moved or were nomadic in nature, following the buffalo herds or the weather.

So people haven’t merely shared an imaginary map as if it were true, they’ve obliterated hundreds of real tribal lands all over again! Facebook people! Listen! You’ve recolonized North America with FAKE NORTH AMERICA!!

Three hundred thousand shares. Three hundred thousand fails. Three hundred thousand uncritical repostings of something as authoritative without even checking it.

Bad education indeed.

‘His Life Matters’: Black Officer and White Police Chief Share Powerful Photo

Two Texas police officers of different races have shared a powerful response to the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Trinity Police Department shared a moving photo of Chief Steven Jones and Officer Donald Givens, which has gone viral across social media. Both officers had the words “his life matters” written on their palms, with arrows pointing to one another.

His Life Matters

Officer Givens said this morning on “Fox and Friends” that they’re amazed by the reaction that the photo has received. He said that it shows that the voices of their small community are heard around the nation.

The officer added that race doesn’t matter in law enforcement. What matters is “if you live Christian values … and you live morally,” Officer Givens said.

Officer Givens called for the nation to come together and move forward.

“We can’t stand behind officers that do bad things,” Chief Jones said. “However, the community and the nation can’t condemn every single officer just on the actions of a few.”

Chief Jon Belmar said at a news conference that officers had been tracking the man, who they believed was armed, during a protest marking the death of Brown, the black, 18-year-old whose killing by a white Ferguson police officer.

The man approached the officers, who were in an unmarked police van, and opened fire, Belmar said. The officers returned fire from inside the vehicle and then pursued the man on foot when he ran.

The man again fired on the officers, the chief said, and all four officers fired back. He was struck and fell.

The man was taken to a hospital, where Belmar said he was in “critical, unstable” condition. Authorities didn’t immediately release the identities of anyone involved, but Tyrone Harris told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the injured man was his son, 18-year-old Tyrone Harris Jr.

The elder Harris told the newspaper shortly after 3 a.m. that his son had just gotten out of surgery.

None of the officers was seriously injured. All four have been put on standard administrative leave. They were not wearing body cameras, Belmar said.

The shooting happened shortly after what the chief called “an exchange of gunfire between two groups” rang out around 11:15 p.m. Sunday while protesters were gathered on West Florissant Avenue, a business zone that saw rioting and looting last year after Brown’s killing. The shots sent protesters and reporters running for cover.

The chief said an estimated six shooters unleashed a “remarkable” amount of gunfire over about 45 seconds.

Belmar waved off any notion that the people with the weapons were part of the protest. “They were criminals. They weren’t protesters,” he said.

The man who fired on officers had a semi-automatic 9MM gun that was stolen last year from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, according to the chief.

“There is a small group of people out there that are intent on making sure that peace doesn’t prevail,” he said. “There are a lot of emotions. I get it. But we can’t sustain this as we move forward.”

Early Monday, another reported shooting drew officers to an apartment building in the area. Two men told police they were targeted in a drive-by shooting near the memorial to Brown outside Canfield Apartments. A 17-year old was shot in the chest and shoulder while a 19-year-old was shot in the chest, but their injuries were not life-threatening, the St. Louis County Police said in a news release.

Leftist monster raceThe video was tweeted by St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Paul Hampel at 10:47 p.m. central time — and gunfire rang out just after 11 p.m., police said. Police shot and critically injured one suspect who allegedly opened fire on plainclothes detectives.

Separately, police said a 17-year-old male has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon and one count of resisting arrest after he fired shots near the protesters late Sunday. He is being held on $100,000 bond.

Before the gunfire, protesters were blocking traffic and confronting police. One person threw a glass bottle at officers but missed.

For the first time in three consecutive nights of demonstrations, some officers were dressed in riot gear, including bullet-proof vests and helmets with shields. Police at one point early Monday shot smoke to disperse the crowd that lingered on West Florissant, Belmar said.

One officer was treated for cuts after a rock was thrown at his face, and two officers were pepper-sprayed by protesters, county police spokesman Officer Shawn McGuire said in an email. Five people were arrested, according to records McGuire released.

Gang violence in Los Angeles has always been a problem, but the recent death of a Rollin 100 gang member has sparked a sickening bet that could see killings rise dramatically in the next few months.

Unilad – Following the death of infamous Rollin 100 gang member ‘KP’, under the hashtag #100Days100Nights, gang members on both Twitter and Instagram are issuing a sinister warning to Los Angeles residents. Basically, the hashtag serves as a bet between two gangs to see who can kill 100 people first, within the next 100 days. Even more sinister is the fact that these 100 people can either be gang-affiliated, or completely innocent. A source confirmed the reports exclusively to The Daily Beast this week.

And it is being reported that the killings may have already started, as one man was shot dead and 12 wounded in more than six seperate shooting over the weekend in the 77th Street district – including the infamous Crenshaw area.

Amongst the victims were two young boys, one aged as young as four and another aged 11, after a gunman approached their car and opened fire. And two days later, on Saturday, 47-year-old Anthony Alonzo Cudger was shot dead in a drive-by shooting as he sat in his car at the intersection of 81st and Hoover streets.

Police are currently trying to work out whether the killings were part of the #100Days100Nights bet, or whether they were gang-related retaliation – something that is a constant issue for the LAPD.

Five shootings involving one woman and four men occurred within five hours of Anthony Cudger’s murder, which prompted LA cops to spark a ‘tactical alert’ in hotspots around the city.

As mentioned, it is still unclear as to whether any of the shootings had anything to do with the bet, however, police are taking it extremely serious as gang members say it will remain ‘on’ for 100 days straight.

People have since been told not to commute between the streets of Western and Normandie in Los Angeles, whatsoever, as they could be risking their lives by doing so – all for a barbaric bloodsport.Picture1

A family member of KP says that the full-time single father was only LOOSELY affiliated with gangs and did not participate in gang-related activity, and went on to say how the vile hashtag is shining a bad light on his name after he managed to turn his life around:

It’s making him look like a bad person. It’s not like he started this and got killed behind it. He had no control over what’s going on with #100Days100Nights.

It’s just gonna put them in the same situation – You either are going to die behind this or go to jail behind this,’ the family member said. ‘It’s not gonna make a difference, it’s just making it worse.

An ambulance was rushed to a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic comparisonin Houston, Texas today after what appeared to be a botched abortion. Ironically, this is the very same abortion clinic exposed in a new shocking video released today that catches a Planned Parenthood official discussing how the abortion business sells “fully intact” aborted babies. Officials with the Houston Coalition for Life were outside the gates of the Planned Parenthood abortion center at the time the abortion business called for emergency personnel to come to the facility.

“Just hours after the latest video was released by the Center for Medical Progress exposing PPGC talking about its track record of fetal tissue sales, including its ability to deliver fully intact fetuses, an ambulance arrived for what is most likely a botched abortion as the woman seen on the stretcher did have an IV in progress,” HCL executive director Christine Melchor told LifeNews.com.

“I’m sure, that as Planned Parenthood of the Gulf Coast scrambles to try and discredit the video and cover their tracks, that perhaps the abortionist and medical personnel were a bit jittery today,” she said.

The video, which follows Senate Democrats defeating a bill to de-fund Planned Parenthood, makes it appear the Planned Parenthood abortion business may be selling the “fully intact” bodies of unborn babies purposefully born alive and left to die.

Planned Parenthood could be breaking the federal law known as the Born Alive Infants Protection Act that requires abortion clinics, hospitals and other places that do abortions to provide appropriate medical care for a baby born alive after a failed abortion or purposefully birthed to “let die.” That would be one of the potential ways Planned Parenthood could produce a “fully intact” baby to sell to StemExpress for research. Most “crunchy” abortion methods would do damage to the baby’s body.

The fifth undercover video in the controversy over Planned Parenthood’s sale of aborted baby parts shows the Director of Research for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, Melissa Farrell, advertising the Texas Planned Parenthood branch’s track record of fetal tissue sales, including its ability to deliver fully intact aborted babies.

In the video, actors posing as representatives from a human biologics company meet with Farrell at the abortion-clinic headquarters of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast in Houston to discuss a potential partnership to harvest fetal organs.

This is by far the most disturbing Confederate flag associated crime I have heard yet. One person was killed and five family members were injured in Columbus Ohio. Three male victims were stabbed and a female victim was shot in the neck.

The family flies a large Confederate flag on their porch and reports claim they may have been targeted because of their race. Both of the attackers were black and the family is white.

Police said two men, 36-year-old Clement Dwight Cooper and 32-year-old Michael Antonio Long had been burglarizing the home when they were surprised by the residents returning home from work.

One of the residents, Tim Bowls said he saw a shadow on the basement steps, thinking it was his brother, but it wasn’t.

“Pointed a gun at him and told him to lay down, then proceeded to beat him with the gun, stabbed him several times and tied him up with an orange extension cord,” said his Aunt Kim. She asked NBC4 not to use her last name. While the two suspects were attacking Bowls his father, mother and brother also came home from work.

“One of them pointed a shotgun up at them and big Tim started wrestling him for the gun so they shot him and then all hell broke loose,” said Kim.

She said six people were fighting in the stairwell and basement, when the mother was shot at close range.

“Jill was shot in the face and neck,” she said.

The Aunt said the family was afraid for about girls sleeping upstairs.

“There were two girls and three small children asleep upstairs they could have killed them.”

They heard the gunshots and call 9-1-1.

“They shot my mother, please, please someone,” said one of the girls.

Columbus police said five family members were injured and taken to two hospitals. Investigators said they found one of the suspects, Cooper dead in the basement.

Investigators are waiting for an autopsy report from the Franklin County Coroner that will reveal how Cooper died.  The family is out of the hospital and staying with relatives while they recuperate.

“They are hurting very bad they were beaten pretty bad we are upset, I mean somebody comes in your house you feel violated,” said Kim.

Violent attacks like these are happening far too often. The term “race war” was once only  used by racial extremist, now it is becoming more of a reality. Thank God, this family was armed or else the situation could have been even worse. When simply being proud of your heritage can get you killed, something needs to change.

I knew it was coming.  I had already read that Planned Parenthood said they were afraid a video might yet be released that showed the actual “procurement” of unborn baby organs and tissues.  Dumped unceremoniously and inhumanely onto a tray, a human being is being reassembled following dismemberment while technicians are snickering and giggling.  Unmitigated evil. I had to shut the door to my office because the tears began to flow. how many body parts

It’s been 15 years now.  My wife was pregnant with our fourth child.  Ultrasound showed it was to be our first son.  Lemuel.  This was the fourth go around for us so everything was (unfortunately) seemingly routine.  We were halfway there at 20 weeks for a routine ob-gyn checkup.  It was so routine I stayed at work while our oldest daughter accompanied my wife to the doctor.

It seems like it was around four or five in the afternoon and I got a call from the clinic.  It wasn’t my wife.  The nurse said I was needed.  I knew it couldn’t be good.  When I got there the nurse was waiting and waved me into the back.  The entire mood in the clinic seemed somber.  I saw my wife and daughter and both were weeping.  The doctor couldn’t find a heartbeat.  It had been fine and healthy on all the other visits.  It was nowhere to be found on that day.  Our firstborn son was gone.

C-section and I wasn’t allowed in) and this seemed no different.  When at last our son was born the doctor was visibly shaking.  He gingerly put Lemuel in a little blanket and laid him next to my wife. 

Though he was gone it was such a privilege to actually see him for a little while.  So small.  Tiny.  Perfect except for a heart that wouldn’t beat.  We cherished those few moments and then said goodbye. 

No, not to some hospital incinerator.  The funeral home came.  We had a graveside service a day or two later.  A tiny casket was provided and our son was laid to rest in a special section of the cemetery called “Baby Land.” 

I went home and I wrote to my son. 

PP MonsterToday, when I saw that horrible, vulgar, but undeniable video I couldn’t help but contrast it to the broken hearts, the dignity, and the love that was so present 15 years ago.  Here was a little baby that nobody cared for or about.  Here, snickering and giggling.  Fifteen years ago the room was drenched in reverence, awe, and sadness. 

God, what have we become?

I said that I wrote to my son.  Today, I want to share those words written to a boy named Lemuel on behalf of all those babies that weren’t afforded the dignity and reverence for their little bodies that was given to him.  My son was wrapped in a little orange blanket and treated just like any other baby delivered at that women’s hospital.  Maybe God will allow the words written for him to count in some way for all those who have been harvested and “procured” by those given over to evil.

Q&A: El Nino could bring disaster and drought relief to California

LOS ANGELES — How does El Nino work, and why might it bring rain and snow to California this winter? Here’s a Q&A:

Q: How might El Nino affect California?

A: There’s a favorable chance that this winter will be wetter than average in much of California — from San Diego to San Francisco. The greatest chance for wet conditions is in Southern California, said Mike Halpert of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center.

But there’s only an equal chance of a wetter-than-average rainy season north of San Francisco, where much of the state’s water supply is collected and stored in giant reservoirs. California needs both rain and snow up there. Snow slowly melting from the mountains is essential to recharging our reservoirs when the skies turn dry later in the spring.

Q: How can scientists make these forecasts about the winter half a year ahead of time?

A: We’ve had experience with El Nino before, a weather phenomenon characterized by the warming of Pacific Ocean waters west of Peru that causes changes in the atmosphere and can dramatically alter weather worldwide.

In the two strongest El Ninos on record, 1982-83 and 1997-98, that has meant relentless storms pelting California.

Q: What’s the latest on how El Nino is doing?

A: The ocean is getting hotter. On July 15, a key benchmark location in the Pacific Ocean was 3 degrees Fahrenheit above average. It’s very similar to the temperature reading on July 16, 1997, which was 3.2 degrees Fahrenheit above average.

Q: So we’re matching the pace we saw in the summer of 1997?

A: Yes, at least for ocean temperatures along the equator. The summer of 1997 was the precursor to the strongest El Nino in the modern record.

Q: What are other reasons scientists are so interested this year?

A: Winds along the Pacific Ocean at the equator typically move east to west. That’s why ocean water enjoyed by tourists on Indonesian beaches is so warm. Winds move warm water west, and the eastern Pacific Ocean’s surface along the equator is chilled as deep ocean water wells up.

In big El Nino years, so-called trade winds weaken, allowing the eastern Pacific Ocean to warm up more — making El Nino even stronger.

Q: Why do very strong El Ninos bring more rain to California?

A: El Nino can bring something to Southern California called the subtropical jet stream.

This current of air usually runs over the jungles of southern Mexico and Nicaragua, a reason Central America has rain forests, said Bill Patzert, climatologist with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Canada Flintridge, Calif.

This subtropical jet stream has already shifted to the north, and is somewhat responsible for the devastating storms that pelted Texas and Oklahoma this spring and pushed those states out of drought, Patzert said.

“If it continues to warm up in the eastern Pacific, as we get into fall and winter, the subtropical jet stream could move across the southern tier of the United States,” Patzert said.

Q: Only the south? What about Northern California?

A: El Nino needs to be particularly powerful to affect Northern California.

“This is not strong enough yet,” Patzert said. “The really big El Ninos — we’re not there yet — can soak the whole state. But right now, it’s possible to get a lot of flooding and mudslides in the south. In Northern California, you could get below-normal rainfall and snowpack.

“So that’s why I’m not calling this a drought-buster yet,” Patzert said.

Q: Could that change?

A: Yes. Ocean temperatures west of Peru could get even hotter than they are now.

“If this El Nino continues to strengthen, it would not surprise me to see … all the lines extend farther north,” indicating a higher chance of a wetter winter even in the far northern section of California, Halpert said.

Q: Does the 1997-98 El Nino offer a template to what our winter will look like?

A: There’s no guarantee this El Nino will act exactly like the one in 1997-98. Three or four months from now, things could be different. There are already a few differences that are giving experts like Halpert pause, like colder temperatures under the ocean’s surface and trade winds that haven’t locked into a convincing pattern as they did at this time in 1997.

Q: Any other issues to consider?

A: The waters west of California and Mexico are also much warmer than average — something that wasn’t seen in 1997, said Daniel Swain, climate scientist at Stanford University.

Q: Did that play a role in the thunderstorms this weekend that made L.A. feel like Houston?

A: Yes. Those warm waters likely played a role in the powerful and rare thunderstorms that unleashed heavy rain in Southern California this past weekend. They came from the remnants of Hurricane Dolores.

Already, there have been an extraordinary number of active hurricanes so early this season in the eastern Pacific — hurricanes that were fueled by the warmer ocean water, Swain said.

That warmer water helped keep the remains of Dolores more energetic as it slammed into Southern California. Normally, colder water would have weakened the ex-hurricane further before it arrived in California.

Q: Can hurricanes hit California?

A: Surprise — yes.

Hurricane-force winds hit San Diego on Oct. 2, 1858, and tropical storm-force winds were felt up the coast to Long Beach, according to scientists writing in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society. El Nino may have been a factor.

“Houses were unroofed and blown down, trees uprooted, and fences destroyed” in San Diego, according to one newspaper account. Another newspaper story reported severe damage at the San Pedro wharf, and heavy rains flooding streets and homes in Los Angeles.

A tropical storm struck Long Beach in September in the El Nino year of 1939, causing $2 million in damage.

And as El Nino developed in the summer of 1997, Hurricane Linda — at the time the most powerful on record in the eastern Pacific — threatened to menace Southern California and make landfall in San Diego as a weak hurricane or strong tropical storm. But the hurricane shifted direction and headed west to sea.

Q: What does the presence of extraordinarily warm water off the California and Mexico coast mean, if we didn’t see this in 1997?

A: “This is not something we’ve seen in previous strong El Ninos. This is a very unusual configuration,” Swain said. “The Pacific is in a really extreme configuration right now.

“What happens this winter is definitely going to be interesting,” Swain said.

Q: Last question: Where did the term El Nino come from?

A: The name El Nino was first used by Peruvian fishermen who noticed warmer ocean water around Christmas time and gave the occurrence a name in Spanish meaning “Little Boy” that refers to the Christ child. It was only in the 1960s that scientists realized that the phenomenon wasn’t just something that affected the Peruvian coast, but a broad swath of the Pacific Ocean, according to William Kessler, a NOAA oceanographer.

Which kills more blacks

Black lives matter? Apparently not in New York City. A “Pregnancy Outcomes” report from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene reveals in 2013, more black babies were aborted than born in the city. A chart on page 7 shows 24,108 “non-Hispanic black” babies were born while 29,007 faced “induced terminations” — or abortions.

Instead of throwing the baby parts in the trash as normal, they chose to make a buck! Planned Parenthood is simply an evil organization driven by greed, sex, and immorality. It is utterly without value. Nothing surprises me when it comes to an organization whose main purpose is killing the unborn.”
