3 simple steps to a conservative in the White House

As we look ahead to the 2016 elections, we need to be ready to fight back against those who do not want a right-sided victory. Many will talk about attracting certain voting groups. They will spout the rhetoric we have heard so many times in elections:

  • “We must attract the independents.”
  • “We must attract the women’s vote.”
  • “We must attract the black vote.”
  • “We must attract the youth vote.”
  • “We must attract the Hispanic vote.”

The list goes on, and it serves one purpose: to confuse.

The statists plan to win, and it isn’t because they have a better candidate or even more money. They plan to win by confusing their enemy. (That’s you.) The elections in 2016 can be won by the right using three simple tactics:

1) The Christian vote: Only 50 percent of those who warm the church pews actually even vote in the general elections. The numbers for women who attend church and vote are even more abysmal. If every churchgoer who does vote brought one churchgoer who doesn’t vote, the election would be wrapped up for the right. This tactic would have even more impact in a primary.

2) Conservatives rally behind one candidate: Before Iowa, conservatives need to have a coordinated strategy to decide on one candidate, or they will get whomever the D.C. elite decides to hand them.

3) Eliminate voter fraud: After deciding on the candidate, and committing to get churches to vote, conservatives should dedicate the rest of their efforts to eliminating voter fraud and opposing motor voter, same-day registration and voting (California has this), and voting without ID laws in their state.

For good measure, I would remind conservatives watch for Saul Alinsky’s rules to be used against them over, and over, and over. The more quickly conservatives can recognize the attacks on them, the better:

1) “Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.” Power is derived from two main sources – money and people. “Have-Nots” must build power from flesh and blood.

2) “Never go outside the expertise of your people.” It results in confusion, fear and retreat. Feeling secure adds to the backbone of anyone.

3) “Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy.” Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty.

4) “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules.

5) “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.

6) “A good tactic is one your people enjoy.” They’ll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more. They’re doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones.

7) “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.” Don’t become old news.

8) “Keep the pressure on. Never let up.” Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new.

9) “The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.” Imagination and ego can dream up many more consequences than any activist.

10) “If you push a negative hard enough, it will push through and become a positive.” Violence from the other side can win the public to your side because the public sympathizes with the underdog.

11) “The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.” Never let the enemy score points because you’re caught without a solution to the problem.

12) “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

The left has very effectively divided conservatives using Alinsky tactics this week with regard to the Duggar family. If conservatives are smart, they will recognize that attack and move on from it. This will happen again and again and again throughout this election cycle. You won’t see the internal circular fire in the statist camp. They are too pragmatic for that.Culture

If you look closely, the entire Duggar story was a not-so-subtle message to conservatives, especially those who are seeking office: Only those who have no standards should be allowed to judge those who do. This will undoubtedly cause sleepless nights for many a conservative running for office and remembering a joint shared at a college party, or a Playboy magazine shared in a Boy Scout tent in elementary school. That is the intent of the Duggar story, which used tactics No. 4, No. 5 and No. 12 and threatens to sweep away a family that had captured the American imagination while showing large Christian families in a positive light. Remember, Nazism is short for national socialism, particularly atheistic centralized government partnering with powerful preferred corporations.

Let’s take a look at the people behind the assault on the Duggars and American-style individual liberty and protections for children.

Bauer Holdings, the German conglomerate that owns In Touch Magazine, trades in all kinds of societal derogating trash and probably enjoys little readership among Duggar family loyalists. Christian converts are bad for business. Attacking the Duggars is a three-fer: Sell magazines, defend your market, and help make sure no conservative is elected to the White House in 2016. So they would dedicate a lot of time and money to investigate and paint the Duggar family as exhibit A of why we can never give spotlight or power to a conservative.

According to an investigation in the The Wrap, one of Bauer’s subsidiaries is Der Landser, a Nazi-sympathizing, skinhead magazine in Germany. Germany’s equivalent of Time Magazine, Der Spiegel, described the Bauer publication as “a specialist journal for whitewashing the Wehrmacht,” Hitler’s war machine.

Bauer also published the magazine Zuerst! Dieter Munier, the publisher of that magazine is a known German neo-Nazi leader for more than 40 years. Bauer sold that magazine in 2012 after public outrage became overwhelming.

Bauer’s holdings don’t stop at Nazi sympathizing or Holocaust denial.Buying votes

Bauer owned multiple distributorships of pornography, including (you can’t make this up) many Nazi-themed porn movies. These movies detail punishing via rape and torture those who do not sympathize with Nazis. One movie cited in The Wrap article was “Inglorious B–ches.” Bauer showcased this movie via Internet service provider, and shows a scene where a pair of Nazi soldiers torture resistance fighters. By shredding the American principle that we protect the identity of abuse victims, the owners of In Touch magazine have done more damage to women and children around the world than any one molester could do. They clearly aren’t looking for answers to the cancerous problem of child molestation. The reality is, that even those who are looking for answers don’t have many. But one thing is certain: In Touch magazine has an agenda far bigger than the Duggars.War on Christians

If conservatives want to win in 2016, they will need to keep their eye on the prize and keep from getting mired in the distractions of the day. They will have to speak truth boldly and swiftly, and not to get dragged into the narrative of the left (example: “The Duggars should have…”).

Jailed Marine’s mom wants help from public


U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi

I LOVE AMERICAThe mother of a U.S. Marine jailed in Mexico for inadvertently driving across the border with weapons that are legal in the U.S., is inviting concerned Americans to write to her son.

Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, who has been held in Mexico since March, is in solitary confinement in a detention center were he has limited access to media but is allowed to receive letters, said his mother, Jill Tahmooressi.

Jill Tahmooressi said the letters would be an encouragement to her son.

“He needs to continue to hear from his supporters here in America, so that’s why we are asking for the public to write to him,” she said. “He has absolutely no distraction in that Mexican jail. Solitary confinement, no radio, no television; he is only allowed one book at a time, but he is allowed letters.

“So we encouraging the American people to write him letters because it keeps him connected …  so he knows that he has not been forgotten.”

The Marine’s most recent hearing, held this week, was followed by a fundraiser for his legal defense.

At the hearing, Fernando Benitez presented further defense evidence that Tahmooressi’s rights under the Mexican Constitution were violated.Heart

Two Mexican customs officials and two military personnel examined Tahmooressi’s prolonged detention at the border and the legality of the search warrant to search his vehicle.

Philip R. Dunn, a 30-year criminal defense attorney and president of Serving California, a faith-based, nonprofit organization committed to assisting veterans, crime victims, incarcerated inmates, and their families and communities, is assisting the Tahmooressi family.

Members helped Andrew’s mother hire their new attorney, Benitez, who represented the decorated veteran Monday in the Mexican court.

In an interview with WND, Jill Tahmooressi said she’s grateful for help.

She said she is feeling “tried, but sure.”

“I still have faith. It’s God’s perfect timing. I know that Andrew is going to get out. So I am hanging in there and trying to keep Andrew optimistic.”

The LightThe Fox News Channel’s Tamara Holder joined the Smart Life program to discuss this weeks’ hearing and expressed concern that the public outrage directed at Mexico might have a negative impact on the sergeant’s release.

Jill Tahmooressi said she is aware of the concern and is trying to be respectful.

“I’ve been very careful to be respectful of Mexico’s law. All I have asked for from the very beginning is an expedited due process for Andrew,” she said.

She said that both she and Andrew respect Mexico’s right to its own rule of law and to due process even though Andrew merely made a mistake.

She wants to remain positive and to thank the American people.

“It’s amazing, coast to coast, I feel like my family has grown,” she said. ” … I now have this universe of a family. I know Andrew feels it, because I read to him the prayers and support messages. … He is so appreciative. That has been the most amazing thing … how America can rally together for this Marine.”

Biblically CorrectShe talked about Andrew’s older sister, who is diving into her career as a chiropractor. Jill Tahmooressi says his sister prays ardently for Andrew, and she is staying hopeful.

Tahmooressi originally was held in La Mesa prison, where he endured severe abuse and death threats. He’s currently being held in El Hongo II State Correctional Facility, 40 kilometers southeast of Tecate, where he now has a 24-hour guard and receives regular visits from chaplains with Prison Fellowship and Baja Christian Ministries.

Jill Tahmooressi said his faith has been his rock, and his visits with his chaplains have been his strength during a very lonely, and trying time.

He spent Independence Day alone except for an opportunity to walk around an open area for a limited time.

The Tahmooressi family hopes that by Labor Day, their nightmare will be over.

Jill Tahmooressi plans a “grand family celebration” for Andrew’s homecoming in their south Florida home, and then she says he will get quickly back into his PTSD recovery plan at a Christian treatment facility in California.

They are still waiting for President Obama’s response to their 135,000-strong petition signed at WhitehHouse.gov. Thus far, they have heard nothing.

“Andrew has lost his life’s savings over this ordeal, because we are [with] attorney number three,” she explained.

Feb. 27 marked the five-year anniversary of the birth of the tea party. March 1 marked the two-year anniversary of the death of a patriot in that movement, Andrew Breitbart. And this week marks the annual convention of conservatives in Washington, D.C., Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC. This is an appropriate time to assess the pulse of conservatives.

Conservatives often use the hashtag, #War when tweeting about the tyrannical imperialism they believe has overtaken the culture, but is there really a concerted war, or more of a frenzied disagreement?

War is mental

As I watch what is happening, the term that often comes to mind is “playground politics,” which Dr. Paterno and I covered extensively in our book, “Ladies and Gentlemen.” The child-like behavior has become so pervasive in politics, that it has left otherwise perfectly patriotic people perfectly cynical.

Teddy Roosevelt knew war. He addressed it in his speech, “Citizenship in a Republic,” delivered at the Sorbonne in Paris, France, on April 23, 1910. It seems he knew that most every day enjoyed in the freedom of a republic was likely to be part life, part war.

“The Man in the Arena”:

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”

War is hell, and though Americans seem to know that on some level, they tend to forget that the battle for the republic will be ugly, painful, unpredictable, tiring, insulting, frustrating, demeaning and that we could lose.

War is expensive

Today, it doesn’t seem many are really willing to fight for the republic. Those who are, are often mocked, scorned and robbed. Most patriots I know give so much of their precious time and resources to the fight, because they recognize that there are more important things than money, and worse things than war.

John Stuart Mill pointed out that while war is an ugly thing, it is not the ugliest of things: “The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.”

One of the things worse than war is tyranny. And to most who see this as war, that is the target in the crosshairs. To those who know why they fight, tyranny is the threat. This is not about party politics, imposing morality or petty differences to them. To the patriot in the arena, this is a fight for all things sacred, most especially, liberty.

War is personal

First, the tea party was attacked for being violent, though no violence was proven. It was attacked for being radical, but what is radical about demanding that government balances its budget and is limited to its constitutional roles? Tea-party activists scratch their heads, wondering what is so violent and radical about believing one generation has no right to lay the bills for its profligate spending on the next?

Just like the D.C. politicians who may start out as civil servants, tea-party leaders often face similar temptations. As this “war” progressed, some fallible individuals were exposed for having too much focus on personal agendas and were willing to attack those with more patriotic agendas.

Our founders were above that. They made statements about divisiveness and petty jealousies, and they had answers for those who misunderstood or abused the mission.

Franklin and others understood that warriors, however passionate, are filled with human frailties. That doesn’t negate the priority of the mission, though.

Some will criticize those who give to the movement for various reasons. I, for one, am encouraged as I have watched patriots rise up to pour out their time and talents, one by one, month after month, year after year.

The bloggers have been the underrated, over-mocked voice of the uprising from the very beginning. Alongside bloggers and other mouthpieces, patriots such as John Hawkins correlate news of other conservatives’ work, and Steven Laboe used his talent of video editing to push out the appearances of other conservatives online. There are patriots who built organizations, and those who push out patriots’ work every day, all day, as a personal mission.

When their work is dignified, even for the other side, those who selflessly give for their vision of the future should be encouraged, I believe.

The passion of such conservatives should inspire those who do see this as war, and who do see this as a battle for the republic. Thousands of patriots give selflessly and tirelessly of their skill.  That is the stuff of warriors.

As the war progresses, if this is a real war, the soldiers had best recognize the enemy. Those who do not will be exposed.

Just because we have, at times, fought stupidly, doesn’t mean there isn’t time to rise up, recognize the elements of war, and win. But we have to know what we are fighting for.

I asked patriots around the country to answer the question of where we are, if this is #war.

Sly Ocana, a patriot from California, said that first, “It is important to recognize this as a war. We are being assaulted by forces that seek to destroy America and our freedoms. Many do not even see this as a war. It is imperative that we start getting this narrative out there. If you recognize what it is, you can begin to effectively combat it.”

Tom C. Lehner said he believes that patriots are in defense mode, and if they don’t adopt a posture of offense instead, “We are in deep trouble.” He said that right now the battle reminds him of Vietnam, “1,000 battlefields and no plan whatsoever.”

But Chris Babb and Ann-Marie Murrell said it is too early to gauge. Both agreed that this is a long battle, and we are only at the beginning of such a large fight. Babb said, “We are only at the beginning of what will be an equally long road, as the road that brought us to this point. This battle shall be won over time.”

Wayne Scott said in the five years since patriots woke up, some definitions have become very clear: “We now understand the battle lies not between parties, but between two different ideals: Self-governance or nanny state.”

Karin Rosarne feels optimistic: “I can see a huge shift in the grassroots education reform movement. #StopCommonCore groups are getting sick of dealing with politicians. I think they are about to take matters to a whole lot different level,” and she adds for emphasis, “check the ‘opt out movement.’”

War is disillusioning

Orwell assessed the tactics of the propagandists of his time, “War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.”

Tea-party activists fought diligently to avoid the pitfalls common to movements, and one tactic was to avoid conveying their power to a central figurehead. This created confusion as to who spoke for the movement or how to define it, but it also limited the hostile media from being able to make it personal. Today, some who consider themselves “taxed enough already” are beginning to see a Reagan rising from the ashes, perhaps.

“We need another Reagan or Thatcher,” Chris Skates asserted, as he prepares to attend his first-ever CPAC this year. He believes that among others, Ted Cruz holds great promise for a real political pivot.

Many in the patriot movement echo his sentiments about Cruz, but they also believe that the establishment GOP will do all in its power to remove Cruz, because it can’t control him.

War is defining

Kim Paris is one of those who saw the disconnect and started a foundation to help give funding and direction to patriot “boots on the ground.” Her Foundation For Common Sense, she says, “is composed of patriots with different objectives, who will be recognized for their projects that proceed without fanfare, day in and day out … who fund the expenses primarily out of their own pockets, or at otherwise great personal sacrifice.”

Paris made another point about those patriots in question. She said they won’t be at CPAC, because most can’t afford it. “Instead,” she said, “they choose to spend what money they have to continue their work on the homefront.”

War is necessary

Einstein said, “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”

Many in the patriot movement have whispered the question that everyone wonders. When do patriots take to the streets, as they have so many times in history and recently in the Ukraine? When do they have no choice but to become the radicals they have been accused of being for so long? That they have suffered so heavily and maintained civility is a testament to the true character of the average tea partier. Still the questions linger about when that might change.

Is it when they come for our guns? Or have they already?

Is it when they kill our children? Or have they already?

Is it when they deny us health care? Or have they already?

When is that moment?

War is the beginning of the end

I always have my students answer this question, “What do you want your epitaph to say?”

I believe there is power of vision when the end is established, first.

As patriots gather to mourn the anniversary of the loss of one of their own; as they celebrate the birth of their movement, however flawed and capable; as they gather in D.C. to strategize for the road ahead, perhaps they are best to pause and reflect on the final goal.

What is sacred enough to die for?

That is the pulse that patriots ought to take, in this most pivotal moment.
