Report: Google ‘Coming After Critics’ in Academia and Journalism, ‘Forming Into a Government of Itself’

“Google has established a pattern of lobbying and threatening to acquire power. It has reached a dangerous point common to many monarchs: The moment where it no longer wants to allow dissent,” claimed Zephyr Teachout, an academic, activist, and former Democratic political candidate in an article for the Washington Post.

Referencing the news this week that members of the Open Markets team she was part of at the Google-funded New America Foundation think tank had been kicked out after they praised the European Union’s decision to fine Google for violating anti-trust regulations, Teachout highlighted the irony of Google’s former slogan “Don’t be evil,” adding, “It appears that Google may have lost sight of what being evil means, in the way that most monarchs do: Once you reach a pinnacle of power, you start to believe that any threats to your authority are themselves villainous and that you are entitled to shut down dissent.”

“Google is forming into a government of itself, and it seems incapable of even seeing its own overreach. We, as citizens, must respond in two ways,” proclaimed Teachout. “First, support the brave researchers and journalists who stand up to overreaching power; and second, support traditional antimonopoly laws that will allow us to have great, innovative companies — but not allow them to govern us.”

Teachout also wrote an article for the Intercept this week, where she explained, “In 2010, while I was pushing to break up big banks because they had become too powerful, I started to realize that the problem in America wasn’t just big banks, it was corporate monopolies.”

In the article, Teachout also announced she will be “the board chair of a new organization, comprised of the same team [kicked out of New America], doing the same work.”

“We will be launching in the fall, and I am helping to create a new digital campaign, Citizens Against Monopoly, to help channel the tremendous public concern that we know exists around monopoly power,” she concluded. “Google’s actions make it more important than ever that we stand up to fight monopolies. At the end of the day, this is about freedom.”

After Closer Look at NK Missile Path, Experts Discover Chilling Target Practice

Reported

URL of the original posting site: http://conservativetribune.com/closer-nk-missile-path/

Despite several stern warnings from the United States, North Korea’s rogue regime fired a nuclear-capable ballistic missile on Aug. 29 over Japan’s Hokkaido province. Experts who analyzed the flight path, distance traveled, and type of missile tested determined North Korea could launch a missile capable of reaching the U.S. territory of Guam. And this wasn’t just a missile test — it was target practice.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the North Korean government admitted as much.

“The current ballistic rocket launching drill like a real war is the first step of the military operation of the KPA [Korean People’s Army] in the Pacific and a meaningful prelude to containing Guam,” the state-run news agency KCNA announced, according to the U.K. Express.

The missile launch flew over Japan and traveled nearly 1,700 miles before crashing into the sea, raising questions about what President Donald Trump will be forced to do next.

As the U.S. monitors the situation, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe condemned the launch.

“We will do our utmost to protect people’s lives,” Abe said. “This reckless act of launching a missile that flies over our country is an unprecedented, serious and important threat.”

U.S. officials believe North Korea likely possess an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching U.S. cities and territories, and could soon be able to launch a nuclear-armed intercontinental ballistic missile.

Trump issued several stern promises to rain down fire and fury on North Korea should they launch an attack on the U.S. or any of its allies. Trump also warned the Hermit Kingdom’s dictator that if he “does something in Guam, it will be an event the likes of which nobody has seen before — what will happen in North Korea.”

The U.S. carried out a successful ballistic missile defense test Wednesday, making it the second consecutive test in which the Aegis system intercepted a mid-range ballistic missile in the last two months.

The U.S. State Department instituted a ban on U.S. citizens traveling to North Korea, United Nations sanctions have been levied against the rogue regime, and a U.S. missile defense system successfully intercepted a missile during a test, which indicates our military has a high probability of intercepting a missile in the air prior to it hitting any target in the U.S.

Nevertheless, if things continue to progress, it may only be a matter of time before the crazy dictator possesses the ability to fire nuclear weapons toward U.S. territory. We finally have a strong president in office who is unafraid to use the greatest military in the world, which hopefully convinces North Korea to back down.

Economy adds 156K jobs in August

Economy adds 156K jobs in August

The economy added 156,000 jobs in August, below economists’ expectations, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday.

The unemployment rate ticked up a tenth of a point, to 4.4 percent, while the labor force participation rate stayed steady at 62.9 percent.

Manufacturing added 36,000 jobs last month, while construction employment rose by 28,000. Roughly 20,000 jobs were added in health care.

August’s numbers fall slightly short of previous months, and came in below economists’ predictions that the economy would add roughly 180,000 jobs.

Meanwhile, employment gains for June and July were both revised down. July added 189,000 jobs, as opposed to the 209,000 originally reported, while June saw gains of 210,000, instead of 231,000. Wage growth also lagged at 3 cents for non-farm workers, compared to 9 cents in July.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-Texas) said that “while today’s jobs report shows we have much more work to do to get wages growing, I welcome the continued job creation.“

Brady said he was pleased the economy grew by 3 percent of gross domestic product in the second quarter of 2017 and that his committee’s efforts to cut taxes could boost American hiring.

“Working together with President Trump and our colleagues in the House and Senate, I’m confident we can deliver pro-growth tax reform this year that improves the lives of all Americans,” Brady said.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said the report showed that “Americans still aren’t getting the bigger paychecks they deserve,” and slammed Republican efforts to repeal ObamaCare and cut taxes for the wealthy.

“Hard-working men and women across America are being left behind by a Republican White House and Congress that have no jobs plan and have failed to demonstrate a true commitment to working families,” Pelosi said.

Economy professor and New York Times columnist Justin Wolfers wrote on Twitter that the labor market might be “a tad weaker than we thought” in July.

“A tad. A tiny little tad. Really, it’s about the same” he said.

Lewis Alexander, chief U.S. economist at Nomura, said low productivity growth and other structural factors will hold down overall economic growth in a Friday research note.

Prosecutors says that Democrat Leader’s “Bribery Scheme went on for Years”!

Reported By Onan Coca | September 1, 2017

For years I’ve been telling anyone who would listen that Democrat Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) was as corrupt as they come. (See here, and here.)

Finally, a full two years after being indicted on federal corruption charges and many years after first being linked to that corruption, Bob Menendez is getting his day in court. If there is any justice left in the American courts, we’ll soon see the Senator from New Jersey behind bars in a federal penitentiary.

On Wednesday the government’s prosecutors filed a document with the court that laid out their case against Menendez and should serve to begin preparing the way for his future conviction.

The prosecutors explained that Dr. Salomon Melgen spent years bribing his good friend with hundreds of thousands of dollars in lavish gifts, sometimes offered freely and other times demanded by Menendez.

The defendants’ bribery scheme began shortly after Menendez’s elevation to the Senate in 2006, when Melgen began a pattern of treating Menendez to weekend and week-long getaways in the Dominican Republic that would continue for the next several years. For the first four years of the corruption scheme, the all-expense paid trips Melgen provided often included free roundtrip flights on Melgen’s private jet for Menendez and his various guests. When the doctor’s private jet was unavailable, Melgen supplied equally luxurious travel for the Senator.

The government further argues that while Menendez never made any effort to pay Melgen back with money, he did pay him back by advocating for him with other government officials and departments.

Although Menendez did not pay Melgen back for the lavish gifts in money, he did pay him back using the currency of his Senate office to take official action to benefit the South Florida doctor. Email exchanges between the defendants, their agents, and officials from Executive Branch agencies will show Menendez’s considerable efforts to pressure the Executive Branch on Melgen’s behalf. And testimony from the agency officials over whom he exerted that pressure will illuminate the relentlessness of those efforts.

The government also has proof that over the years, as they continued to get away with their crimes, the two men grew more aggressive and bold in their corruption.

The Government’s evidence will show that, eventually, Melgen’s bribes to Menendez grew to include more than just private flights and luxury vacations, and Menendez’s official acts moved beyond merely advancing Melgen’s personal interests and placing phone calls to Executive Branch officials. The Government will offer emails, checks, mail receipts, a ledger, FEC records, and testimony from fundraising personnel showing that, in just a five month-period spanning May to October 2012, Melgen gave $771,500 to Menendez’s legal defense fund and assorted campaign Case 2:15-cr-00155-WHW Document 204 Filed 08/30/17 Page 8 of 30 PageID: 4305 9 committees fueling the New Jersey Senator’s reelection bid, and did so in a manner that obscured the relationship between benefactor and beneficiary. In return, as emails, memoranda, and witness testimony will show, Menendez performed his most aggressive and pointed advocacy, including personally meeting with and pressuring a Cabinet Secretary and an Assistant Secretary of State, to advance financial interests that implicated tens of millions of dollars in profit for the Florida doctor.

After reading over the government’s case the situation looks bleak for Menendez. The government has reams of documentation and evidence of his corrupt interactions with Melgen and his associates. To make matters worse for Menendez, part of his defense rests on the notion that he was being persecuted by the Obama administration for opposing Obama’s Cuba policies. While I wouldn’t put it past Obama to be vindictive enough to do such a thing, the evidence speaks for itself, Menendez was involved in some shady activities and the government is right to pursue this case. Prosecutors explained as much to the court in their conclusion: “This case is about serious questions of fact and law related to the corruption of one of the highest elected offices in the United States government. It is not about anonymous tips, Cuba, Iran, party politics, or the political consequences of a conviction. The question of whether the defendants engaged in a corrupt scheme cannot be answered by the defendants’ conspiracy theories.”

It’s time for Menendez’ reign of corruption to end. Here’s hoping that the government makes their case and that justice is finally served.

MSNBC Guest: Hurricane Harvey A ‘Man-Made Disaster’ [VIDEO]

Reported by Photo of Amber Athey Amber Athey | Media Reporter | 5:05 PM 08/31/2017

An MSNBC guest asserted Thursday that natural disasters like Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Katrina are actually “man-made disasters.”

Rick Stengel, former under secretary of state for public diplomacy, blamed politicians and city planners for the extent of the damage caused by Harvey and Katrina.

“Part of the problem with Harvey, like Katrina, is these are man-made disasters in part because the thousands of buildings that have been built in Houston on flood plains–on 100 year flood plains–over the past ten years, these are public officials and unregulated expansion that has made this area vulnerable,” Stengel claimed.

Stengel then seemed to criticize the plan of officials to rebuild the city of Houston “bigger and better” after the flooding subsides.

“To me, it’s not about building bigger and better, it’s about building to a 500 and 1000 year plan like Amsterdam and other cities are built,” he said.

Stop Rewarding CAIR

Reported By Meira Svirsky Wednesday, August 30, 2017

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) describes itself as “America’s largest Islamic civil liberties group,” despite the fact that only a small percentage of American Muslims say the organization represents their interests. Yet, the organization has been able to position itself as such and reap the benefits of this deception.

Two stories caught our eye today in which CAIR comes off as an anti-racist organization and gains monetary reward for it as well.

1. As reported in The American Spectator, the CEO of MGM Resorts International, Jim Murren,  sent a letter to his employees in the wake of the “events in Charlottesville and Barcelona” telling them “we must stand strongly in defiance of violence, bigotry and anything that threatens our precious right to equality.”

Murren then announced that MGM Resorts would match any donations that its employees made to a number of organizations he deemed were fighting this fight. Among the organizations was CAIR, ironically a Muslim Brotherhood front group that, as Islamists and supporters of Hamas, promotes the kind of bigotry and hate Murren is objecting to (and even the same ideology to which the Barcelona terrorists ascribed).

2. To avoid a lawsuit on a copyright infringement case involving the cartoon character Pepe the Frog, an author who illegally used the Pepe character agreed to shut down any further distribution of his book. Since his book was also perceived by some to be anti-Muslim, one of the conditions of the settlement was that he donate whatever proceeds he had already made from the book to CAIR.

Both of these cases indicate, at best, woeful ignorance or, at worse, how the radical left, in concert with the Islamists, has managed to mainstream its insidious agenda.

And for the Islamists, that agenda includes the installation of sharia (Islamic) law as the law of the land.

Indeed, this is what CAIR promotes.

  • In September 2014, CAIR endorsed a letter opposing the Islamic State terrorist group’s tactics, but endorsed sharia governance’s brutal hudud punishments, the recreation of a caliphate and the Islamist doctrine of gradualism. It even implied that journalists that are viewed as dishonest are acceptable targets for violence.
  • CAIR spokesperson Ibrahim Hooper is on record as saying, “I wouldn’t want to create the impression that I wouldn’t like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future.” Hooper also said that sharia law would replace the U.S. Constitution if Muslims became the majority in the U.S.
  • In 2007, the U.S. government designated CAIR as an unindicted co-conspirator in the trial of the Holy Land Foundation, which was successfully prosecuted for financing Hamas (a terrorist organization as designated by the U.S., among others).
  • Two years later, a U.S. District Court judge upheld this designation because of “ample evidence” linking CAIR to Hamas.
  • In a 2007 court filing, federal prosecutors stated, “From its founding by Muslim Brotherhood leaders, CAIR conspired with other affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood to support terrorists … the conspirators agreed to use deception to conceal from the American public their connections to terrorists.”
  • In 2014, the United Arab Emirates banned CAIR as a terrorist group.

We would urge those who wish to fight “violence, bigotry and anything that threatens our precious right to equality” as well as those who wish to counter anti-Muslim bigotry to do their homework and not throw away their money to organizations such as CAIR. Rather, they should invest in any number of anti-Islamist and reformist Muslim organizations that are truly fighting for these very same values.
