How Private Citizens Stepped Up To Get Americans Out Of Kabul When The US Government Failed

The chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in recent weeks has left Americans stranded in the capital city of Kabul, and in response, a disparate group of private citizens has stepped up to get people out of the country. President Joe Biden stuck to his plan to withdraw the remaining U.S. military forces from Afghanistan even as thousands of American citizens, legal permanent residents and Afghan Special Immigration Visa applicants remained at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.

Biden defended the evacuation in an address Tuesday by claiming 90% of Americans who wanted to leave the country were evacuated successfully. His remarks came one day after Secretary of State Antony Blinken admitted that between 100 and 200 Americans had been left behind after the U.S. military completed its withdrawal.

As the Aug. 31 withdrawal deadline approached, a number of private citizens with former military or intelligence experience began to organize evacuations to get both Americans and Afghans out of the country. Among them is former Force Recon Marine Chad Robichaux, who was deployed to Afghanistan eight times and has rescued more than 5,300 people from the country. He told the Daily Caller News Foundation about his efforts to rescue orphaned children and other vulnerable people in an Aug. 28 interview.

“We worked a relationship with a foreign government and their military to allow us to work with them and build a plan to clandestinely go in and get certain groups of people, move them onto the airport in Kabul and then utilize charter planes and some of the military aircraft [to get them out],” he said.

A volunteer group of U.S. Special Operations veterans also launched a mission last week to move people in small groups to the Kabul airport and evacuate them from the country. The mission, called the “Pineapple Express,” has reportedly rescued more than 500 people including vulnerable Afghans, according to ABC News.

In many of the private operations conducted by veterans and others, rescuers have used digital communications and other technology to act as emergency dispatchers, call in favors with guards, share intelligence about the Taliban and move families to the right runway to get on a flight, according to The Washington Post.

A number of operations have used encrypted messaging apps like Slack and Signal to share sensitive information and send photos to the people being evacuated from Afghanistan. These efforts to communicate across thousands of miles are now being called “Digital Dunkirk” in reference to the evacuation of trapped Allied soldiers from the beaches of northern France during World War II.

Members of Congress have also scrambled in recent weeks to provide information to constituents trapped in Afghanistan and aid in evacuation efforts. Several lawmakers told the Daily Caller or other outlets that the State Department had refused to guarantee protection for Americans and Afghans at the airport in Kabul.

Republican Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton was among the first members to encourage Americans trapped in Afghanistan to call his office, setting up an email address to help disseminate information. One Afghan American couple, who had been unable to get to the Kabul airport, made it past Taliban and U.S. security checkpoints with the help of Cotton, who gave them a military contact at the airport.

The Biden administration has taken fire from all sides amid the fallout of a chaotic U.S. withdrawal. As expected, Republicans have ripped the administration for leaving Americans behind, but corporate media outlets and even officials who served under former President Barack Obama have gone off on the administration.

Republicans lambasted the administration President Joe Biden is taking fire from all sides amid the fallout, as the Taliban moves to consolidate its power in Afghanistan and thousands of U.S. citizens and Afghan allies remain trapped in the country.

“The fact that ‘Digital Dunkirk’ exists, it’s a wonderful tribute to the people doing it, obviously the people on the ground in Kabul are awesome, and I’m not talking about them, but the fact that it exists is a — there’s a failure here of the government,” Tapper said.

“My contention is that there is probably no way for the Afghan security forces and the government to collapse overnight and there not to have been a corresponding chaos on the ground and the scenes that you are seeing,” Murphy responded.

“But the idea that this is being done as efficiently as could be done just flies in the face of everything I’m sure you’re hearing behind the scenes, certainly everything I’m hearing,” Tapper shot back.

Tom Cotton Claims ‘Joe Biden Is Keeping America Closed But Is Keeping Our Borders Open’

Reported by DAVID KRAYDEN, OTTAWA BUREAU CHIEF | February 09, 2021

Republican Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton claimed Tuesday that President Joe Biden is “keeping America closed” with reported travel restrictions while opening the southern border with a non-deportation order.

“It is crazy. The Biden administration has put in placed a moratorium on all deportations,” Cotton told Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom.”

“They further are proposing that they will ignore serious crimes like assault or DUI when it comes to deportations,” Cotton said, while noting reports like the one from Jackson County, Texas sheriff A.J.  Louderback, who suggested to Fox News“Tucker Carlson Tonight” that illegal aliens are being allowed into the U.S. without a coronavirus test.

Under President Joe Biden’s non-deportation rules, immigrants can’t be deported if they get a DUI, commit fraud, tax crimes or assault, Fox News reported, noting that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will be stood down. In January, a federal judge in Texas ruled against the Biden administration’s plan to have a 100-day moratorium on most deportations.

Cotton said Biden is keeping America closed with reported travel restrictions that include requiring anyone flying domestically to successfully pass a coronavirus test first.

“Just think about that. Illegal aliens can come into our country without vaccination, without even a negative test but we may not be able to fly in our own country without a negative test.”

Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) told Politifact that agents perform inspections for symptoms of COVID-19 on immigrants who cross the border and refer them to local hospitals if they are at risk. CBP also told Politifact that procedures on the coronavirus have been in place since the beginning of the pandemic. Procedures included “screening individuals for COVID-19 symptoms when they are initially processed at a facility, and continued monitoring for potential COVID-19 symptoms for as long as they remain in CBP custody,” according to a 2020 inspector general report.

“Joe Biden is keeping America closed but is keeping our borders open,” Cotton added.

Biden’s eight-year path to citizenship plan would allow all illegal immigrants living in the U.S. as of Jan. 1, 2021 to achieve temporary legal status in five years and to apply for citizenship after an additional three years.

Individuals would be expected to pay taxes and be subject to background checks during this process.

The Biden administration is not encouraging migrants to cross the southern border and has attempted to reduce expectations of mass asylum.

The Stupid Party: Republicans Will Destroy Both Trump AND Their Party if They do Nothing About Obamacare

waving flag disclaimerAuthored By Warner Todd Huston February 27, 2017

Death of the GOP

Donald J. Trump was swept into office on several key issues, one of which was to put a merciful end to the odious Obamacare. So far the Republican Party has thoroughly failed to move on any of Trump’s issues and in the case of Obamacare in particular, if they do nothing or only tinker around the edges, it will sink both Trump and the Party.complete-message

Trump was made president of the United States on several fronts. He was against illegal aliens infesting the U.S.A. and for building a wall on the southern border, he was in favor of lowering taxes and re-building the economy, he was pro-U.S.A. (i.e. “make America great again”), and he was going to end Obamacare.

On the latter issue, the Republican Party stood fully behind Trump and have for several years now said they, too, rnc-passing-repeal-and-replace-obamacarewant to put an end to one of the worst, most destructive laws ever to ooze out of D.C. But, now, only a month into the era of Trump, now that they are fully in charge and have a president ready to join the effort to quash the socialist take over of one sixth of the nation’s economy, we have already seen they are losing their spine on the matter.

Despite so many who are crowing that the Democrat Party is dead — and, yes, they are in the worst shape they’ve ever been in — and despite those who assume Democrats are now in the permanent wilderness, it is idiotic to assume the Dems are down and out. The fact is, right this minute the GOP has more power than it has had in generations and now is the time to act on Obamacare. We can’t expect the GOP to ever be in a better place to put an end to President Obama’s signature nightmare.

To their credit — and just, at that — many Republicans do understand that ObamaCare needs to be eliminated. Remember, many Republicans were heard claiming that repealing Obamacare would be a “day one” task. And on that subject, Trump did, indeed, make a “day one” move to begin the rollback of Obama’s law. Hours after taking office, Trump signed an Executive Order instructing federal agencies to grant relief to Americans negatively affected by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

But, Executive Orders are not “laws” passed by Congress nor do they have the full force of law. We need to have Congress move to end the law. Yes, Republican leaders in Congress have continually mouthed their desire to end Obamacare in line with Trump’s campaign promises. The media is full of these pronouncements.

For instance, last year, when Speaker of the House Paul Ryan was not able to muster enough votes to override Obama’s veto of a bill designed to begin dismantling Obamacare, Ryan insisted that if a Republican were to win the White House, they would still do it.

“We have now forged a path — that is a clear path — to repealing Obamacare without 60 votes in the Senate. So what we are proving today is if we have a Republican president next year, we will repeal Obamacare. And we will replace Obamacare,” Ryan said at a press conference in February of last year after the vote to override Obama’s veto failed.kick-em-out-of-office

Just before Donald Trump was inaugurated as our 45th president, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also ripped into Obamacare, said it has failed America, and promised to dump it.

“The Senate is currently working to pass the legislative tools to bring relief to the middle class by repealing this partisan law,” McConnell said of Obamacare in an op-ed January 9.

“We’re acting quickly because ObamaCare is collapsing under its own weight, and things will continue to get worse otherwise. That doesn’t mean the law will end overnight. There will be a stable transition period, and once repeal is passed we will turn to replacement policies that cost less and work better than what we have now,” McConnell promised.

Sadly, there has been much talk but little concrete action.amen

Indeed, there are hints all over the media that the Republican Party is backing down from concrete action as fast as they rush to microphones to claim otherwise. For instance, only about a week before his inauguration, Trump was listening to Kentucky Republican, Senator Rand Paul, who was already cautioning that the party should slow down of the repealing of Obamacre until there was a “replacement” ready for introduction.

Now, before I go on, if you don’t believe that the GOP has several replacement bills already written, then you are a fool. Rand Paul has probably even been part of the drafting of at least one of them. So, there is no reason to wait for some mythical bill to be “written.” There are several to choose from already. Just frikkin pick one and go!amen

Even conservative Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark) has been blathering about waiting until a “replacement” is ready.

“I think when we repeal Obamacare we need to have the solution in place moving forward,” Cotton said on MSNBC show in January. “Again, the solution may be implemented in a deliberate fashion, but I don’t think we can repeal Obamacare and say we’ll get the answer two years from now.”more-blather

And orange-faced former House Speaker John Boehner is even back in the media insisting that the GOP will never repeal Obamacare. Just last week Boehner claimed “it is not going to happen.”

Notice what all this means? It means that Republicans are looking for a reason to tell voters that they aren’t ready to fight to repeal Obamacare.

This “let’s wait and see” attitude is a common refrain in Washington belched out by Republicans who are looking for ways to avoid doing what they promised or were elected to do. They’ve been throwing this line of nonsense around for decades. The GOP said they couldn’t reign in government, lower taxes, or fight Obama because they didn’t have the House of Representatives. Then they got the House. After that they said now wasn’t the time to fight for anything because the GOP didn’t control the Senate. Then they got the Senate. Then they said they couldn’t forge ahead because Obama was president and they needed a Republican in the White House. Then Trump won. Today they have no excuse not to plow ahead… but what are they saying? They are saying now is not the time to fight. Now is the time to cool our jets and slow things down.amen

This never, ever happens when Democrats are in power. When Democrats are in power they launch into their agenda with full steam ahead quite regardless of whether or not they have an electoral “mandate.” Sadly, the Republican Party hasn’t had the spine to lead since it finally lost its post civil war lock on power when the socialist FDR era finally sent them packing.

Like I said, the GOP should assume that it will never have this much power again and at light speed they should sweep the Democrats and their legacy into the wastebasket of history with all haste. Not only is it what the Democrats would do — and have done decade after decade — but it is exactly what Republicans were sent to Washington to do.amen

Right now the Republican Party has a very weak coalition despite the cliff the Democrats fell off of. The GOP is at an uneasy crossroads between its weakling, past self, and its possible new, stronger self led by Trump. But right now it does not have a successful identity and if it slows Trump down and refuses to repeal Obamacare, refuses to lower taxes and improve our economy, won’t vote to build the wall, or won’t work to pass any of Trump’s main agenda, then it will not succeed. It will instead give the undeserving, un-American Democrats an easy path right back to power.

By refusing to support Trump, the GOP will commit suicide.

Critics see signs of improper ties in new Clinton emails

waving flagBy Julian Hattem08/10/16

nixon style victoryRepublicans are seizing on a new collection of emails from senior aides to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, which they say show signs of corruption between the State Department and the Clinton Foundation.

At least three of the 44 new email exchanges released by conservative group Judicial Watch this week show a potentially inappropriate connection between senior State Department officials and people with ties to the Clinton family.

In one case from early 2009, the former “body man” to ex-President Bill Clinton, who helped to create the Clinton Global Initiative asked Hillary Clinton’s State Department aides to “take care of” an unidentified associate as a “favor.”

In another message, the same man — Doug Band — asked Clinton aides Huma Abedin and Cheryl Mills to connect a foundation donor and Lebanese-Nigerian billionaire with the State Department’s “substance person” on Lebanon.

And in the third case, the chairman of Morgan Stanley Asia sent Clinton a copy of testimony he was due to provide to Congress, and asked to help with her work “in any way I can.” The next day, Clinton asked Abedin about “connecting” with him in Beijing, either at the “embassy or other event.”

The “newest email scandal exposes pay for play connections,” GOP nominee Donald Trump’s campaign blared to reporters on Wednesday.

“That the Clinton Foundation was calling in favors barely three months into Hillary Clinton’s tenure at the State Department is deeply troubling and it is yet another reminder of the conflicts of interest and unethical wheeling and dealing she’d bring to the White House,” added Republican National Committee spokesman Michael Short, in a statement.

The new emails add to the evidence of overlap between Clinton’s activities, which have dogged her throughout the presidential race.

In June, Clinton and the State Department came under fire for new signs that the former secretary of State had pushed for a financial trader and bundler of her 2008 presidential campaign to be appointed to an intelligence advisory board, despite his apparent lack of qualifications.

The trader, Rajiv Fernando, was added at the “insistence” of Clinton’s office, a State Department official said in the newly released emails

“Couldn’t he have landed a spot on the President’s Physical Fitness Council?” Clinton aide Philippe Reines joked in an email at the time, which was released this summer.

For Clinton’s critics, the steady drip of revelations suggests that the Democratic presidential nominee was trying to hide her discussions by deleting roughly 30,000 emails from the private server housed at her New York home. The new emails released by Judicial Watch this week were not among the thousands of work-related emails she gave to the department for recordkeeping in 2014.

“She views public office as nothing more than a means to personal enrichment — and every dollar she takes comes at the expense of the public welfare,” Stephen Miller, the national policy director for Trump’s campaign, said in a statement on Tuesday evening.

“This latest finding is an unseemly, disturbing window into a corrupt office, and yet more evidence that Hillary Clinton has been lying from the beginning — and by any reasonable definition attempted to obstruct the investigation of the FBI.”Untouchables

The FBI uncovered an undisclosed number of the deleted emails during the course of its yearlong investigation into possible mishandling of classified information, including “several thousand” that appeared work-related and ought to have been handed over to the State Department. Many of those emails are the subject of ongoing open records lawsuits, though it is unclear whether they will be made public by Election Day in November.

“The department recently received documents from the FBI reflecting emails sent to or from former Secretary Clinton’s email, which were not included in the materials provided to the State Department by former Secretary Clinton in December, 2014,” department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau told reporters on Tuesday.

“There are many [Freedom of Information Act] requests related to former Secretary Clinton’s emails. We are now focused on responding.”

The State Department has maintained that Clinton’s ties outside of the government did not have any impact on her role as the nation’s top diplomat.

FBI Director James Comey this summer declined to say whether the bureau was investigating the possibility of improper ties between the State Department and the Clinton Foundation. However, the email saga has dragged on for longer than a year, and eroded much of the public trust in her. Ongoing focus on her server or ties to the Clinton Foundation is only likely to intensify that criticism.

“In the law, you know, one is allowed to draw an adverse inference when a witness or a party destroys evidence. And given some of the corruption we have seen in both the Clinton Foundation and in the government under Hillary Clinton, I think it’s reasonable for Americans to draw an adverse inference,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) said on Fox News on Tuesday evening.

“She set up an email server specifically to avoid public scrutiny and that the controversy between her email on one hand, and the Clinton Foundation on the other, are not two distinct controversies.

“Those are the same controversy.”

Did Hillary Clinton’s Emails Get an Undercover Agent Killed?

waving flagBy Onan Coca August 8, 2016

This past week Iran announced that they had indeed executed nuclear scientist Shahram Amiri. Amiri likely defected to the United States in 2009 but eventually (for reasons unknown to the public) wanted to return to Iran. Amiri began making public statements that he had been kidnapped by the American and Saudi governments and that he was being held against his will in the United States. It caused a bit of an international incident and some slight embarrassment for the Obama administration. However, it appears likely that his protestations were merely for dramatic effect because he wanted to return to Iran without being punished for his defection.

Amiri was returned to Iran in 2010 and was welcomed back to much pomp and circumstance. He was greeted as a hero returning from the clutches of an evil villain, but that warm welcome was short-lived. He soon disappeared.

Last year his family said that they believed he was serving a 10-year sentence in a secret prison, but today we know that they were wrong. Amiri had been found guilty of a capital crime and the sentence has been carried out.

While the story is one that should embarrass American officials, it should outrage every American. Not because a spy was captured and killed but because of how it may have happened.

You see, Amiri was unmasked as a spy in the leaked Clinton emails. We have no way to know for sure if the Iranians learned Amiri was a spy because of Hillary’s terrible security… but we do know they most certainly could have. Had anti-American forces gotten Clinton’s emails they could have sold (or given) this information to Iran in an effort to embarrass or hurt our cause.

An email forwarded to Clinton by senior adviser Jake Sullivan on July 5, 2010 — just nine days before Amiri returned to Tehran — appears to reference the scientist.

“We have a diplomatic, ‘psychological’ issue, not a legal one. Our friend has to be given a way out,” the email by Richard Morningstar, a former State Department special envoy for Eurasian energy, read. “Our person won’t be able to do anything anyway. If he has to leave, so be it.”

Another email, sent by Sullivan on July 12, 2010, appears to obliquely refer to the scientist just hours before his appearance at the Pakistani Embassy became widely known.

“The gentleman … has apparently gone to his country’s interests section because he is unhappy with how much time it has taken to facilitate his departure,” Sullivan wrote. “This could lead to problematic news stories in the next 24 hours.”

Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) hit on this possibility while speaking to John Dickerson on CBS’ Face the Nation.

“I’m not going to comment on what he may or may not have done for the United States government, but in the emails that were on Hillary Clinton’s private server, there were conversations among her senior advisors about this gentleman. That goes to show just how reckless and careless her decision was to put that kind of highly classified information on a private server. And I think her judgment is not suited to keep this country safe.Never-Hillary-Egl-smThe entire episode is simply another reminder that Hillary Clinton has done more to damage our nation and our planet than any other candidate for President in recent history. Considering her failures in Libya, Russia, Iraq, Yemen, Iran, and her email scandal… how anyone could seriously be considering voting for her as our next president is truly baffling. Hillary Clinton does not belong anywhere near the Oval Office and this latest incident is more proof of that fact.
