CALIFORNIA VOTERS ALERT

On Tax Day, Californians Want Relief from Higher Taxes

Every day, California taxpayers pay:

  • The highest sales tax in the nation;
  • The second-highest gas taxes in the nation; and
  • The second-highest state and local tax rates.

Fire Tax and the Hidden Gas Tax … two disastrous bills being considered by the legislature

New $10 Billion Tax on Services

One measure (Senate Bill 8 – Hertzberg) would extend the sales tax to include services.  This is estimated to be a $10 billion new annual tax increase.  Every time you get a haircut or take your car in for an oil change, you would potentially pay a higher tax.  I am fighting this $10 billion tax increase, as I believe it would slow economic growth, threaten jobs, and punish overtaxed Californians.

New $2 Billion Tax to Drive

A proposal being considered by Assembly Democrats would create a new “road user charge” on California drivers to pay for transportation projects.  This would be a $2 billion annual tax increase – or roughly $52 per year for every driver.  Californians already pay high gas prices and this proposal will make driving even more expensive.  At the end of the day, we can fix our roads and highways without a $2 billion tax hike.  Let’s start by ending High-Speed Rail and using some of that money for more pressing transportation needs.

Californians are taxed enough already, and I will continue to fight hard to protect your wallets from these and other proposed tax increases.
