John McCain admits he gave FBI the Trump smear dossier

waving flagJanuary 11, 2017 Authored By

Arizona Sen. John McCain cemented his RINO status when he admitted Tuesday that he handed the dossier that smeared Donald Trump to the FBI. “Late last year, I received sensitive information that has since been made public,” he wrote in a statement on his website.

“Upon examination of the contents, and unable to make a judgment about their accuracy, I delivered the information to the Director of the FBI.
“That has been the extent of my contact with the FBI or any other government agency regarding this issue.”

The accusations published by Buzzfeed are admittedly unverified and potentially unverifiable

Bizpac Review reports,cannot-fix-rinos

President-elect Trump and his staff have vehemently denied the veracity of the reports.

Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein told CNN that McCain was more intimately involved in the documents than he admitted.

“It came from a former British MI6 agent who was hired from a political opposition research firm in Washington who was doing work about Donald Trump for both republican and democratic candidates opposed to Trump,” he said.

“They were looking at Trumps business ties, they saw some questionable things about Russians, about his businesses in Russia, they in turn hired this MI6 former investigator, he then came up with additional information from his Russian sources, he was very concerned by the implications of it, he then took it to a FBI colleague that he had known in his undercover work for years, he took it to this FBI man in Rome who turned it over to the bureau in Washington in August.”

“And then, a former British ambassador to Russia independently was made aware of these findings and he took the information to John McCain – Senator John McCain of Arizona – in the period just after the election, and showed it to McCain – additional findings.”

“McCain was sufficiently disturbed by what he read to take it to FBI director James Comey himself personally, they had a five-minute meeting, very little was said, McCain turned it over to him and is now awaiting what the FBI’s response is to that information.”

“Moderate” Republicans Doing More Damage Than Democrats

Compromise is to be used when one possesses common ground with their opponent. If one does not have any such common ground, a place where beliefs overlap, there is no benefit to compromise. In fact, without common ground, compromise doesn’t even exist. Moreover, if finding common ground requires one to violate their beliefs, even in the slightest, what is the point? What is the cost, morally, strategically, and politically of compromising, when it forces us to bend what should otherwise be a straight principle?

According to The Washington Examiner:

“Government officials, reacting to the growing voice of conservative news outlets, especially on the internet, are angling to curtail the media’s exemption from federal election laws governing political organizations, a potentially chilling intervention…”

Basically, liberals (mopey, and angry because the conservative presence online is crushing them) want to silence these conservative websites by banning them from endorsing political candidates, etc. It’s just another twist on the Fairness Doctrine.

In other news, Cumulus radio, who recently lost Hannity, and Rush (in NYC), is prepping a new host to add to their roster. According to Breitbart:

“Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI), the Chair of the House Intelligence Committee who will retire after his term ends to host a national radio show, said those who listen to Hannity and Limbaugh do not learn anything.”

“Is that true? Are you listeners to Rush, Hannity (et al,) and think you are NOT learning anything? JB

Rogers slammed Hannity and Rush by claiming that his show will be more beneficial, and less divisive. He even called himself “a canary in a coal mine.” Rogers has been described by his (frighteningly liberal) colleague Luis Gutierrez as “a voice for moderation and consensus-building.” Basically, Rogers is what is commonly referred to as “moderate.”

These two stories tell a very scary tale. On one hand, we have liberals in our federal government wanting to silence anyone who would disagree with them, thus wresting control back into their grubby hands. On the other hand, we have a man who claims to be conservative mocking Hannity and Rush, both of whom have fought to keep conservatism relevant through thick and thin over the last two decades.

We are dealing with individuals who play dirty. Modern Democrats have never played fair, and they will do almost anything to gain the upper hand, including resorting to dictatorial measures. We have alleged conservatives, like Rogers, who actually believe that these dirty fighters can be reasoned with, that they can be compromised with. Expecting reason and compromise from the Left is like expecting Iran’s almighty Ahmadinejad to stop hating Jews. It’s not going to happen, and we must live in the reality in which we have been placed.

“Moderates” like Mike Rogers are harming conservatism. I would wager to say that moderates do more harm to conservatism than the Democrats. We cannot be deluded into a false compromise, in which the Democrats get everything they want, and we don’t get a morsel. We cannot compromise with people who are night to our day.

We must instead focus on winning the hearts and minds of Americans by telling them what we really believe, then—surprise!—actually following through with our promises. We cannot water down our conservatism to suit the Democrats, who don’t dare water down their philosophy. We can only win if we show the country who we are, and how what we believe is better that what the Democrats offer, in every respect.

“Whatever you compromise to get you will ultimately loose.” JB

Mike Rogers and his ilk are fools. The Democrats are playing dirty, and the only way to combat their behavior is to change the game. Let’s stop cowering, and start fighting. Conservatism is the future.

House Conservatives Want to Oust Boehner

Conservative lawmakers are plotting to dump House Speaker John Boehner as soon as November, the National Journal reported Thursday.

The National Journal said 40 to 50 House conservatives are behind a scheme to infiltrate the GOP leadership in 2015, and pushing the Ohio Republican aside would be the first step.

The conservative disapproval with Boehner has been widely reported.

The rebels’ strategies include backing a single conservative leadership candidate, cutting a deal with Majority Leader Eric Cantor that would swap support with him for speaker in return for his bringing aboard “a conservative lieutenant,” or showing Boehner at the post-November elections’ meeting of the incoming GOP conference that he doesn’t have the votes for re-election in January, the National Journal reported.

One Republican told the publication the “nucleus” of the rebellion is inside the House Liberty Caucus, which includes Justin Amash of Michigan, Raul Labrador of Idaho, and Thomas Massie of Kentucky, who all objected to Boehner’s re-election as speaker in January 2013.

Amash, chairman of the Liberty Caucus, has warned then there would be a “larger rebellion” if Boehner’s leadership team didn’t bring conservatives on board.

“There are no big ideas coming out of the conference. Our leadership expects to coast through this election by banking on everyone’s hatred for Obamacare,” said one Republican lawmaker organizing the rebellion the National Journal didn’t identify. “There’s nothing big being done. We’re reshuffling chairs on the Titanic.”

Boehner isn’t the only target of the conservatives’ ire, the National Journal reported.

Cantor has come under fire from conservatives recently because of a voice vote maneuver that helped pass an Obamacare “doctor fix” bill.

“I’m getting used to being deceived by the Obama administration, but when my own leadership does it, it’s just not acceptable,” Rep. Matt Salmon of Arizona said last week, after Cantor met with a group of angry Republican Study Committee members.

“It’s an issue of trust. If you want to have a majority that is governing, and a majority that is following the leader, the rest of us need to be in a position where we trust our leadership,” Labrador has said, the National Journal reported.

“When you have politicians actually playing tricks on their own party, and their own members of Congress, I think that erodes the trust the American people have in the rest of us.”

For his part, Boehner isn’t going anywhere.

“Speaker Boehner is focused on the American people’s top priority: helping our economy create more private sector jobs,” Boehner spokesman Michael Steel told the National Journal. “He has also said—publicly and privately—that he plans to be speaker again in the next Congress.”

The attempted overthrow of Boehner last year failed in part because conservatives didn’t have an alternative candidate for Republicans to rally around, the National Journal noted.

“Somebody has to step forward,” said Rep. Tim Huelskamp of Kansas, one of 12 Republicans who refused to back Boehner’s re-election in 2013. “This is not something where after the election you can step forward. There’s going to be months and months of [planning] needed.”

Ted Cruz Calls Out the RINO’s

http://eaglerising.com/4728/ted-cruz-calls-rinos/#4VQZ5W07iPXJBeRz.99

By / 18 February 2014

Ted Cruz lays some truth down on Mark Levin about his fellow Senate Republicans. “In the 13 months I’ve been in the Senate, it has become apparent to me the single thing that Republican politicians hate and fear the most, and that is when they’re forced to tell the truth. It makes their heads explode.”

Levine

Democrats and liberals in the media often point to the way GOP establishment RINO’s (I’m looking at you, Peter King) curse the name of Ted Cruz as their evidence that the GOP is at war with itself.

Recently Ann-Marie Murrell of Politichicks interviewed Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) that spoke to this fight.

A-M:  Many of your colleagues seem to be terrified to do the right thing, to fight for our conservative principles.  How can this change, and do you think it ever will?

Rep. Gohmert:  We have to assure members of Congress that are more worried about getting reelected–which has been drilled into them–that you can stand up and do the right thing and still raise money, still have a conservative PAC like mine that will help you raise money, will help you fight the battle and it makes it easier to stand up for what’s right.

In my first week going through orientation before I was actually sworn in to Congress, my fellow freshmen were told repeatedly was the most important thing you can do for your country is get reelected.  Well I didn’t believe that then, and I don’t believe it now, but it’s been instilled in so many people on both sides of the aisle.  Sometimes you just have to take a stand and say things that may not initially be popular, but you’ve still got to do it.  But in the meantime, we’ve got to grow the number of people that are willing to stand up for what’s right at any cost–and it helps when they can be encouraged that there are people who will financially stand with them.

gop-vs-tea-copyA-M:  It sounds like you’re describing our fellow Texan Senator Ted Cruz.  He was beaten and bashed like a piñata after he stood up for us.

Rep. Gohmert:  (laughs) I was thrilled when Ted came into the Senate, that’s why I stayed up with him all night in his filibuster.  We talk time to time and try to strategize between the House and Senate, so I’ve been absolutely thrilled that Ted has stood strong despite the slings and arrows that sometimes come when you do the right thing.

A-M:  I interviewed Sen. Cruz soon after his filibuster and asked if he had been shocked at the backlash.  He said yes, and that he understood why so few politicians are willing to swim against the tide. You’re one of those rare politicians unafraid to speak out, too.  What do you and Ted Cruz, Mike Lee seem to have so much more courage than others?

teapartyRep. Gohmert:  Well, it comes from having your feet firmly implanted on the foundation and I know all three of us have a firm belief in God and when you know that there is eternal truth, you know what C.S. Lewis realized after having been an atheist, that there must be an absolute standard of right and wrong, justice and injustice, and if there weren’t then we could never know that there was justice and injustice. Once you know that, then you know that you are standing for more than just a temporary gain or loss; you’re standing for truth that will be there when time on this earth runs out.

My late mother did a powerful job; she was a brilliant woman but she used to embarrass me and my other siblings when she was at a church or town meeting–up she would stand, to make a point or take somebody on and I’d say ‘Mother, please sit down, you’re embarrassing me!’ and now I’ve pretty much turned into my mother (laughs).  But right is right, wrong is wrong.

There is a lot of tension in our party right now, mostly brought on by RINO willingness to partner with Democrats on making our economic propositions even worse. (As well as by the tone and tenor the RINO caucus has been using to speak to and about conservatives.)

But I’d caution both the liberal and the RINO to be very careful on how they handle the conservatives in Congress.

Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Rand Paul, Justin Amash, Thomas Massie and a growing crop of other conservatives are not afraid to take consistent stands for their values instead of bending for their popularity. It’s why these conservatives have become rock stars for the grassroots movement among conservatives all over the country. We know that Cruz, Lee and Paul aren’t grandstanding for power, wealth or fame… because there are easier ways to do it. If they would just compromise they could more easily gain positions of power and influence.

Take Justin Amash and Tim Huelskamp for example. A couple of years ago both men were stripped of their seats on the budget committee because the GOP leadership didn’t like how often they refused to bend to the leadership’s will.

While they may have lost their committee seats, both men gained a lot of credibility with grassroots conservatives. It’s that credibility that the RINO leadership needs to be concerned about, because when push comes to shove and the conservatives are forced to stand against EVERYONE else… we will stand with them. If the GOP wants to keep our votes and dollars flowing, they better pick the right side – it’s either the RINO’s or us.

Conservative Principles: Are you a True Believer or Just a Fairweather Fan?

http://patriotupdate.com/articles/conservative-principles-true-believer-just-fairweather-fan/

by

There is an excellent new book out titled Not a Fan by Kyle Idleman.  The book asks professing Christians a tough question: Are you a true follower of Christ or just a fan?  Idleman classifies those who sustain their beliefs through good times and bad, those who are prepared to sacrifice for their beliefs as true believers.  Fans, on the other hand, are those who fall away from the church the minute their faith requires anything of them; be it sacrifice, perseverance, or cost.

It struck me while reading this book that a similar question could be asked of conservatives. In fact, at a time when key leaders in the national Republican Party are recommending the abandonment of conservative principles as a way to broaden the party’s base, this is a perfect time to ask those who profess to be conservative the following question: Are you a true believer or just a fair-weather fan?

Idleman defines a fan as an enthusiastic admirer but not a true believer.  I like that definition.  It applies to conservatives in the same way that Idleman applies it to Christians.  In Not a Fan Idleman uses the example of an ardent football fan to illustrate the difference between a fan and a true believer.  Every weekend during the Fall you can see ardent fans in the stadiums across America supporting their favorite college and professional football teams.  The ardent fan paints his body in the colors of his team, owns a jersey bearing the name and number of his favorite player, collects team-oriented memorabilia, and never misses a game in good weather or bad. But let his team go into a slump and struggle through several years of losing seasons, and the fan’s enthusiasm will wane.  If the losing record persists, the fan will lose interest in the team and transfer his enthusiastic support to another team, one that is winning.

These fair-weather conservatives never seem to consider that a better way to broaden the Republican Party’s base would be to make a compelling case for adopting conservative principles to Americans of all stripes. Rather than abandoning foundational principles, why not persuade the ill-informed of the efficacy of those principles?  Weak-kneed Republicans respond that it is too hard to make a case for conservative principles—that such an effort would take too long and the results would be mixed at best. The reason some Republicans find it so difficult to make a compelling case for conservative principles is that they don’t believe in these principles themselves. It is difficult to be passionate about or to defend principles you adopted out of political expedience rather than true belief.

The Republican Party is experiencing an identity crisis that could leave Democrats in power for the next 20 years.  A party that does not know who it is and what it stands for cannot compete in presidential elections, nor can a party that strays from the beliefs it has held to for decades

Ronald Reagan won by enthusiastically running on traditional conservative principles, values he never shied away from regardless of the audience.  In short, President Reagan was a true believer in conservative principles, not a fair-weather fan.  Yet he managed to broaden the Republican Party’s base beyond anything old-guard Republicans could ever have imagined.  There is a lesson in his success for wobbly Republicans who are fair-weather fans of conservative principles rather than true believers in those principles.

A Plea to Spineless Republican Leaders During the Shutdown

http://lastresistance.com/3362/plea-spineless-republican-leaders-government-shutdown/#ikxPJRr0L6iO4pJE.99

Posted By

According to the Wall Street Journal:

“President Barack Obama and House Republicans began discussions Thursday on a GOP proposal to extend the nation’s borrowing authority for six weeks, marking a new opening in the budget stalemate that risks a U.S. debt crisis.”

Noooooooooooo! Are you kidding me?! Just Wednesday I was so proud of the GOP—especially the typical establishment types–because they had hunkered down, and held the line, even closing the government…well, 15% of the government. I was fairly certain that this would be a defining moment for the GOP as a whole. But, like so many things in life, the GOP never fails to disappoint.

The polls show that almost as many Americans blame Obama for the shutdown as they do the Republicans. A video from Campus Reform shows a vast majority of Colorado college students blaming Obama—this is Lib-central Colorado! Obamacare is an abject failure—even in terms of its website. A new Rasmussen survey of likely voters has Democrats tied with Republicans on a hypothetical general election, each standing at 40%. Just a week ago, the Democrats were in the lead by several points. And finally, according to an AP-GfK poll, Obama’s approval rating has dropped precipitously to 37%. We were beginning to reverse the tide. We can’t stop now.

Even with all of this pointing in a good direction for a new conservative tidal wave, Republicans are backing down in various forms. Once great thinker, now nitwit Paul Ryan wrote an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal, essentially telling Republicans to concede to Obama’s demands.

This isn’t a grand bargain. For that, we need a complete rethinking of government’s approach to helping the most vulnerable, and a complete rethinking of government’s approach to health care. But right now, we need to find common ground. We need to open the federal government. We need to pay our bills today—and make sure we can pay our bills tomorrow. So let’s negotiate an agreement to make modest reforms to entitlement programs and the tax code.”

I am so tired of Republicans caving over and over again. Is Ted Cruz the only politician on whom I can rely? Is there no other Conservative who stands for anything? I’m aware of Mike Lee, and several others, but I’m speaking in terms of a larger group.

We cannot stop. It is time for a conservative revolution. Ted Cruz helped ignite a fire that was stomped out long ago—a conservative flame. Our country has to stand for something. If we cave to Obama—even slightly—he will regain his composure and become more powerful than ever before. We must not show weakness in the face of tyranny. We must harden our hearts for the sake of our future, and stand resolute in our ideals. This is my plea to Republicans. I hope they get enough of these, or this fight is over before it began.

The Democrats Own This Government Shutdown…Even If RINOs Don’t Think So

http://minutemennews.com/2013/10/democrats-government-shutdown-even-rinos-dont-think/#mEotMiWalj4lUmh5.99

By:  Marilyn Assenheim

Obama Expect GlitchesDespite House RINO’s doing everything they can to appease Harry Reid’s Senate, short of funding Obamacare outright, Reid’s Senate rejected the second House alternative presented to them. Reid and a megalomaniacal Democrat party are only interested in one thing; getting their own way. Reid knows that with every rejection, a timid Republican House is ever more likely to back down rather than be blamed for a government shutdown. Trouble is, they are being blamed anyway. Typically and irrationally, Republicans are being faulted, far more often than the Democrats, for being recalcitrant and forcing a government shutdown that is entirely unnecessary and is exclusively in the hands of The Lyin’ King and his retainers in the Senate.

After Reid rejected the first House bill, The House, in an unfathomable effort to buy more time before a government shutdown scheduled to begin at midnight Monday, offered a watered-down bill to the Senate; the first bill proposed a government completely funded…except for the ruinous, new entitlement, Obamacare. For the second go-round the House, unsurprisingly, backed off.  In yet another nod to Democrat autocracy, the revised bill proposed to delay instituting Obamacare for a year and to eliminate taxes on medical products, products like aspirin, toothbrushes and band aids: “Don’t let’s think about defunding Obamacare for a while; let’s just stall and kick the can down the road for another year.” Those two amendments Democrats disliked were dismissed out of hand by Reid’s Senate Monday afternoon. Why cave in to a House that has proven its willingness to fold, like a cheap suit? As FOX News put it: “House leaders will now have to decide whether to make a counter-offer or accept the Senate bill.” House Republican Whip, Kevin McCarthy, indicated that the House may not be finished walking back their position: “We have other options for the Senate to look at…There are a few other ideas floating around the Hill for targeting ObamaCare without going so far as to defund it…” Swell.

According to The Washington Times: “Some Republicans want the House to pass a new bill that would fund the government but also would require President Obama, Vice President Joseph R. Biden and all of the administration’s top political appointees to forgo their government health plans and join the health exchanges. Still to be decided is another measure the House passed unanimously early Sunday morning that would guarantee U.S. troops continue to be paid even in the event of a government shutdown.”The Hill reports that Speaker Boehner, in a rare display of criticism for the Senate, said “The Senate decided not to work yesterday…Well my goodness, if there’s such an emergency, where are they?”

The answer is that the Democrat majority Senate is right where they’ve been since 2008; in the catbird seat. Their ploys to blame Republicans for their own actions are not accidental nor have they been since the inauguration of The Lyin’ King. Elected Democrats have reached a point where they are permitted to get away with a nation’s murder. Democrats are in complete control of whether a government shutdown, which they’ve fabricated into a false emergency, ever occurs. Both The Lyin’ King and his flacks in government have promised to reject anything that goes against what they want; Obamacare, a blight that a majority of Americans has recognized as such, shouldn’t be an issue. It is a political gift to Republicans and for a country desperate for genuine leadership.

On Monday, the House whined that the bill wasn’t being returned to them with enough time to amend it prior to meeting the deadline. RINO’s would do anything to avoid being tarred with a government shutdown. They might have learned a thing or two from President Reagan: If the Lyin’ King and a Democrat Senate want to turn the destruction of America into a game of “chicken,” House Republicans must finally prove the chicken isn’t them.

These RINOs Have Got to Go

By  http://eaglerising.com/1988/rinos-got-go/#VCHucDdw1CSQFVZO.99

RINO= Republican In Name Only

SBowers 9-28The Senate RINOs slavishly voted as Harry Reid ordered them to vote. They are an obedient bunch. And they know who their master is. The problem is, while they are faithful drudges to Dusty Harry, they cannot recognize their true masters. The rest of us. They serve their own personal interests first in the following order.

They want to stay in power. But as we saw in 1994, they don’t know how to run things if they fall into power (in 1994 on the coat tails of hapless Clinton and in a reaction to him). Being second fiddle to the Democrats because they aren’t as smart as the Democrats and can’t play to the electorate as well, doesn’t bother them. There is a risk in “playing to the grandstand.” You must have some courage. What if your theatrics fall flat? There is the chance the people in the grandstands may not like you. They may hate you. Maybe the guys who composed your lines are dummies.

There was a lucrative profession during the Napoleonic era, which consisted of attending debuts of symphonies and plays. The practitioners were called “Clappers.” They were hired to applaud or jeer at the right moment to bolster or condemn the production. Modernly in the political arena, we call those guys the “Press.” They are paid to mess up any theatrics the Republicans’ (or more accurately, Conservatives’) attempt in presenting their views or plans. They got a jolt of a sense of their power when they hammered Nixon and haven’t been the same since. Unfortunately for them, while they learned that they can dethrone a king, they found making one is much more difficult. This frustrates them and makes them nasty, derisive and petulant. Their mindset is “If you think differently than me you are wrong … I am (by definition) right, which means you are “Evil” … and … ergo … I can condemn you in every venue available.” It is circular logic, of course. But it makes liberals feel good about themselves because it allows them to look down on someone, which means they (liberals) are above the people they look down on … and superior to at least someone in the room, which feels really good if you know you really aren’t the smartest person in the room … as you may have claimed. This is a tremendous motivator, because liberals very seldom have anything to feel good about regarding themselves.

RINOs fear the media because liberals and their media lap doggies can start jeering your performance on cue, and you’re a goner. So RINOs have very few ideas they want to trot onto the public stage. It’s just too risky. And they have discovered it is even safer to follow the Democrat herds because the press will not notice them. You’re under the radar.

Of course, the other reason RINOs want to stay in power, is they like the power. Even if they are second fiddle to the Democrats they still get to enjoy the benefits of standing idly by in the corridors of power, even if they don’t get to yank the “levers of power” real hard whenever they want to like their Democrat masters. Even “second fiddle” power is sweet. People want your autograph and you can smugly deprive them. (They’re only dingy constituents. Screw ‘em! I’m engaging in fine dining in my favorite eatery, after all. Go away and take your street urchin progeny with you! How dare you?!?) You get your picture taken frequently and sometimes the press will even give you an approving caption, i.e., “Senator Second fiddle was seen yesterday at Walter Reed Hospital cutting the ribbon on a new phrenology clinic for the Vets, many of whom stood silently around, but were unacknowledged by the good Senator.” You might even get into a photo with Dusty Harry who might be seen giving you a mildly approving supercilious smirk. Hey … it’s better than him telling the press a nasty and politically damaging lie he made up about you (remember how Romney hadn’t paid taxes in ten years … or something like that?), which might actually be true about you! That’s always a risk! Limousines, Congressional junkets with your family along, big fat salary with incredible benefits, lifetime gigantic pensions etc, etc, etc.  Life is good. Really good, (just as long as you can avoid those often ugly Town Hall Meetings back home with those scruffy and nosey constituents with those pesky and uninformed queries about “Where in H%$&^LL our tax dollars are goin?” And their runny nosed kids and howling dogs … and their torches and pitchforks).

All those goodies in exchange for just keeping quiet, engaging in no grandstanding and going along to get along. There, there, that’s a nice RINO.

But the party may be nearing its conclusion.

People are waking up to the fact that politics matter. P.J. O’Rourke said, “Bad politics gets you dead.” Plato said “If you don’t take an interest in politics you will be doomed to governance by your lessers.” (With apologies to both fellows if I got the quotes fouled.)

These RINO jerks have to go.

Rand Paul Slams John McCain For Posing With Kidnappers

As Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) took questions at the Reagan Library over the weekend he took a shot as Senator John McCain (R-AZ), whose trip to meet with Al-Qaeda operatives in Syria, under the cloak that they are Syrian rebels, sparked an outcry from American patriots. Paul said that since McCain had his picture taken with kidnappers, he didn’t know how good of a job the Federal government is doing in vetting those who would receive arms in Syria.

A reporter asked Paul, who is as a member of the Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee, what he thought the top priority for foreign affairs of the United States is.

“I think the top priority for the country constitutionally, historically, and appropriately is defense of the country. That’s what we’re supposed to do in Washington,” he answered to applause.

Paul continued,

“That being said, Reagan’s motto was ‘Peace through strength,’ it wasn’t ‘War through strength.’”

Paul went on to elaborate on this saying that, “There are some, sometimes in our party, who mistake war for defense. If you don’t believe in eternal and perpetual war doesn’t mean you don’t believe in a strong national defense.”

“This is an important distinction,” he added.

Paul then spoke about some in the Republican Party that wanted to give money to Muammar al-Gaddafi in Libya and then a year later wanted to provide money and resources to rebels to overthrow the Libyan leader. “There’s a certain inconsistency,” he commented.

The Kentucky Senator then spoke about his concern with getting involved in a new war in Syria.

“Well people say Assad is such a bad guy,” Paul said. “He is, but on the other side we have al-Qaeda and now Nusra and they say, ‘there are some pro-Western people, and we’re going to vet them. Well apparently we had a senator over there who had his picture taken with some kidnappers, so I don’t know how good a job we’re doing vetting those who are going to get the arms.”

Again, applause erupted because Senator Paul was simply pointing out the truth. I’ll add he should have called for John McCain to be brought up on charges of treason for standing alongside and giving aid to the enemy of America.

Paul then pointed out two ironies that must be overcome if the US wants to get involved in the war in Syria. Here are the ironies:

  1. You will be allied with al-Qaeda
  2. Most of the Christian are on the other side

“You may well be arming Islamic rebels who may well be killing Christians,” he said. “Does that make Assad a good person? No. I don’t think there are any good people in this world and there’s some tragically innocent people who are going to be caught in the middle.”

“I just don’t know that our arming one side is going to make the tragedy any less,” Paul added. “So I think we need to be careful.”

I agree with Paul’s comments. They are level headed and the right way to be thinking about what is taking place. However, I’ll add just one more thing. There is no “may well” when it comes to arming Islamists in that area. We have done it. My guess is this administration, the Democrats and the RINOs will be more than willing to side with one Islamic group against another and spill the blood of Americans, not seeing past the vacuum that will be created in an Assad defeat which will be quickly filled by the Muslim Brotherhood. We’ve already seen it in Egypt and in Libya. What makes anyone think Syria would be any different?
