Pentagon weighs using force to protect US-backed Syria rebels targeted by Russia

waving flagPublished October 02, 2015, FoxNews.com

Senior U.S. military leaders and defense officials are debating whether military force should be used to protect Washington-backed Syrian rebels who have come under attack by Russian airstrikes in recent days. The Associated Press reported early Friday that the question was part of a broader debate within the Pentagon about the the broader dilemma of how the administration should respond to what White House press secretary Josh Earnest described as Russia’s “indiscriminate military operations against the Syrian opposition.”

Tensions between the U.S. and Russia are escalating over Russian airstrikes that are serving to strengthen Syrian President Bashar Assad by targeting the so-called “moderate” rebels rather than hitting Islamic State (ISIS) fighters it promised to attack.

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry says Ankara and its allies in the U.S.-led coalition are calling on Russia to immediately cease attacks on the Syrian opposition and to focus on fighting Islamic State militants.

Meanwhile, a joint statement by the United States, France, Germany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Britain expressed concern over Russia’s military actions, saying they will “only fuel more extremism and radicalization.” The text of the statement was released by the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Friday, and confirmed by the French Foreign Ministry.

The Pentagon on Thursday had its first conversation with Russian officials in an effort to avoid any unintended U.S.-Russian confrontations as the airstrikes continue in the skies over Syria. During the video call, Elissa Slotkin, who represented the U.S. side, expressed America’s concerns that Russia is targeting areas where there are few if any ISIS forces operating. Slotkin is the acting assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs.

A key concern is the prospect of the U.S. and Russia getting drawn into a shooting war in the event that Russian warplanes hit moderate Syrian rebels who have been trained and equipped by the U.S. military.

At U.N. headquarters in New York, Secretary of State John Kerry said: “What is important is Russia has to not be engaged in any activities against anybody but ISIL. That’s clear. We have made that very clear.”Picture1

“We are not yet where we need to be to guarantee the safety and security” of those carrying out the airstrikes, he said.

In an interview late Thursday on CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Kerry described the military consultations as “a way of making sure that planes aren’t going to be shooting at each other and making things worse.”

“What is happening is a catastrophe, a human catastrophe really unparalleled in modern times,” Kerry said of the Syrian crisis, adding that Russia should help the United States “persuade Assad to be the saver of his country, not the killer of his country.”Picture2

U.S. officials made it clear earlier this year that rebels trained by the U.S. would receive air support in the event they are attacked by either IS or Syrian government troops. Currently, only about 80 U.S.-trained Syrian rebels are back in Syria fighting with their units.

The U.S. policy is very specific. It doesn’t address a potential attack by Russian planes and does not include Syrian rebels who have not been through the U.S. military training, even though they may be aligned with the U.S. or fighting Islamic State militants.

So far, the Russian airstrikes have been in western Syria. The Syrians trained and equipped by the U.S. have primarily been operating in the north.

U.S. officials said the issue is one of many being hashed out by top leaders within the department and the military’s Joint Staff. One official said they are weighing the potential fallout.

At worst, if Russia bombs rebels trained by the U.S. and American fighter jets intercede to protect the Syrians, the exchange could trigger an all-out confrontation with Russia — a potential disaster the administration would like to avoid.

Fueling the concerns is the fact that Russia has aircraft in Syria with air-to-air combat capacity, even though ISIS has no air force and the only aircraft in the skies belong to U.S.-led coalition or the Syrian government.

Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook would not provide details of the talks with Russia. But much of the discussion involved proposals for avoiding conflict between U.S. and Russian aircraft flying over Syria.

Backing rebelsKerry said he foresees further consultations with the Russians about air operations. And Cook said the U.S. side proposed using specific international radio frequencies for distress calls by military pilots flying in Syrian airspace, but he was not more specific about that or other proposals.

Russia’s defense ministry said that over the past 24 hours it had damaged or destroyed 12 targets in Syria belonging to the ISIS fighters, including a command center and ammunition depots. A U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad, Col. Steve Warren, said he had no indication that the Russians had hit Islamic State targets.

“While there is always danger of conflict, of inadvertent contact” between coalition and Russian warplanes, “we are continuing with our operations,” Warren told reporters at the Pentagon.

Obama On Confiscating Guns: Then And Now

New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly looks at some of the guns seized as part of gun smuggling between the Carolinas and New York, Monday, Aug. 19, 2013 in New York. Authorities say couriers smuggled 254 guns into New York City by stashing weapons in their luggage on discount buses. The men were caught in a police sting that netted 254 weapons in 45 transactions since last year. (AP Photo/Mark Lennihan)

Smart-power-600-LAClearly, he’s “evolved” on the subject. After all, back in 2008, nobody had ever shot anybody else in the history of the world. This phenomenon has only developed over the course of Obama’s two glorious terms in office, for some reason, and it’s about damn time he grabbed those guns you yahoos keep clinging to.

Umpqua Community College is a gun-free zone. Obviously, this shooting proves that we don’t have enough of them.

Once again, I call on President Obama to disarm the Secret Service. Make the White House a gun-free zone. Show everyone that we can make this world a better place if we openly declare ourselves to be utterly defenseless.gun free zone

Oh, and pass more gun laws. Lots more gun laws. “We know that states with the most gun laws tend to have the least gun deaths,” said the Greatest President in History. Sure, this isn’t factually true, but it’s emotionally true. It feels good to say it. So keep saying it.

Ignore reality. It’s the only thing keeping us from achieving Utopia.

The number of individuals out of the work force last month — due burketo discouragement, retirement or otherwise — represented a substantial 579,000 person increase over the most recent record, hit in August, of 94,031,000 people out of the workforce.

While the prior two months saw a labor force participation rate of 62.2 percent, September’s participation rate dropped to 62.4 percent, matching the lowest level seen since October 1977.

tyrantsThe civilian labor force in September clocked in at 156,715,000, declining by 350,000 people, compared to August’s 157,065,000 labor force level.

In total 148,800,000 people were employed last month, 7,915,000 were unemployed, and 5,955,000 people were looking for a job.

Overall the Labor Department reported that the economy added 142,000 nonfarm payroll jobs in September and the unemployment rate remained at 5.1 percent.Cloward Pevin with explanation

School Choir Pulled From Conservative Festival

waving flagPosted On 29 September 2015 By :

A school district in southern Utah has opted to pull their kids out of the upcoming Western Freedom Festival, where they were to perform a medley of patriotic songs in front of the festival’s attendees. According to officials, the decision was made after parents complained about the political leanings of the event.

“We’ve stepped out of our participation,” said Iron County school district spokesman Steve Burton. “It’s our policy not to be involved in events that have a political agenda.”Picture1

According to the festival’s organizers, the event – scheduled for October 23 at Southern Utah University – is intended to celebrate heritage and culture as well as discuss federalism and the importance of keeping private lands out of the hands of the federal government. And while it’s impossible to pretend there isn’t a political agenda here…when is that not the case?

Everything is political to some degree. Every speaker has an agenda, and every event is put on with a purpose. There Truth The New Hate Speechare two (or more) sides to every issue, and it’s ridiculous to pretend otherwise. Critics only bring out the “too political” card when they disagree with the politics in question.

Besides, were the children expected to get up on stage and pontificate on the importance of private land ownership? No, they were going to sing songs in praise of America. And when you think about it, it’s a minor surprise that even that wasn’t considered too political. After all, we live in an era where liberals are constantly complaining about the oppressive history of the American flag.

It’s okay to pull out of events whose topics you don’t agree with, but at least have the courage of your convictions. No We have been torn apartone has the option to stand silently by and refuse to choose a side. By not choosing, you’ve still made a choice. All due credit to Rush.

According to op-ed writer Marcos Camargo, the event has sinister undertones. “Promotion of ‘western values’ sounds a lot like white nationalism,” he wrote in the Utah Independent.

Of course it does. When these liberals can’t argue on the basis of fact, they resort to this kind of name-calling. They go straight to the race card, knowing that even the insinuation of hate speech is enough to cast their enemies in a disturbing light. It doesn’t matter if they have any proof to back up their claims. Just by saying it, they’ve already turned the tide of the debate in their favor.

Iron County fifth graders will be spared the horror of this “white nationalism,” but they will go back to their classrooms and learn a distorted view of American history, learn a twisted interpretation of the Constitution, and complete an education that is inevitably colored by … drum roll, please … politics! There’s no escaping it. There’s simply no way to give a child an unbiased view of the world; it doesn’t exist. What these people want to do is shield them from the views they don’t like.

GEORGIA SCHOOL TEACHES ISLAM: Conveniently Leaves Out Christianity and Judaism

Georgia’s Walton county school district showed the true aims of multiculturalism this semester, with a curriculum that both whitewashes Islamic history and completely ignores Judeo-Christian teaching. Walton county parents, unlike most of Congress and the Left, saw right through the ruse.

Georgia’s curriculum is similar to that in use in California, where students have been forced to memorize the five pillars of Islam, and concede that Allah and Yahweh are the same God. California, to its credit, has a large group of parents fighting back as well.Lies Lies and More Lies

Walton parents have risen up in protest, and petitioned the school board to give time in the curriculum to the history of Christianity and Judaism. They’ve also asked for a more balanced look at Islam, one that takes into account its violent history and persecution of Jewish and minority groups, Israel, jihad, and 9/11.

islam

America Never ForgetPerhaps most importantly, they’ve addressed the largest error in the curriculum – that Muslims, Jews, and Christians worship the same God, an outrageously false statement that has received a strong backlash from theologians and churchgoers across the county.

Naive leftists, as well as Sharia advocates like the Council on Anerican-Islamic Relations, have officially put protesting parents on an Islamophobia watch list. The parents themselves, however, have done everything by the book in their protests and petitions to the school board. Do you stand with them?

Carson: ‘If People Don’t Speak Up For What They Believe,’ Hitler Could Happen In America

waving flagPosted by Photo of Christian Datoc Christian Datoc, Reporter, 10/01/2015

Ben Carson told reporters Wednesday that if “people don’t speak up for what they believe,” then America could start resembling Hitler’s Nazi Germany, CNN reports.

In a speech earlier in the day, Carson rejected the idea that a radical, totalitarian party could ever gain power in the United States.

“If you go back and look at the history of the world, Truth The New Hate Speechtyranny and despotism and how it starts, it has a lot to do with control of thought and control of speech,” he explained.

“If people don’t speak up for what they believe, then other people will change things without them having a voice. Hitler changed things there and nobody protested. Nobody provided any opposition to him.”

War on ChristiansAdditionally, Carson shot down a question insinuating that he was comparing President Obama to Hitler.

“No. I am saying in a situation where people do not express themselves, bad things can happen.”

This Is How Russia Handles Terrorists: Moscow Releases Video Of Syria Strikes

This Is How Russia Handles Terrorists: Moscow Releases Video Of Syria Strikes

Now that Russia has officially begun conducting airstrikes on anti-regime forces operating in Syria, commentators, pundits, and analysts around the world will be keen to compare and contrast the results of Moscow’s efforts with the year-old US-led air campaign against ISIS targets in Syria and Iraq.

Clearly, Russia has a very real incentive to ensure that its airstrikes are effective.

Preserving the global balance of power means preserving the Assad regime and, by extension, ensuring that Iran maintains its regional influence.

On the other hand, the US and its regional allies actually have an incentive to ensure that their airstrikes are minimally effective. That is, for the US, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, the idea is not to kill Frankenstein, but rather to ensure that he doesn’t escape the lab.

As we documented earlier today, Russia wasted no time launching strikes against anti-regime targets once the country’s lawmakers gave the official go-ahead and the West wasted no time accusing Russia of breaking protocol by targeting “modetrate” Syrian rebels (like al-Qeada) that aren’t aligned with ISIS.

It’s against that backdrop that we present the following footage released by the Russain Ministry of Defense which depicts the opening salvo in The Kremlin’s battle against terrorism in the Middle East (note the vehicle traveling towards the compound at a particularly inopportune time towards the end).

syria

And predictably, Western media reports regarding civilian casualties and Russia’s alleged targeting of “moderate” rebels (as opposed to ISIS) were countered by Moscow’s sharp-tongued spokeswoman and US foreign policy critic extraordinaire Maria Zakharova.

Via RT:

Russia has struck eight Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) targets in Syria, the country’s Defense Ministry said, adding that “civilian infrastructure” was avoided during the operations.

“Today, Russian aerospace force jets delivered pinpoint strikes on eight ISIS terror group targets in Syria. In total, 20 flights were made,” spokesperson for the Russian Defense Ministry, Igor Konashenkov, said.

“As a result, arms and fuel depots and military equipment were hit. ISIS coordination centers in the mountains were totally destroyed,” he added.

Konashenkov said that all the flights took place after air surveillance and careful verification of the data provided by the Syrian military. He stressed that Russian jets did not target any civilian infrastructure and avoided these territories.

“Russian jets did not use weapons on civilian infrastructure or in its vicinity,” he said.

Reuters reported that Russia targeted opposition rebel groups in Homs province instead of Islamic State forces. The agency cited Syrian opposition chief Khaled Khoja, who put the death toll of the bombardment at 36 civilians.

“Russia is intending not to fight ISIL [Islamic State], but to prolong the life of [Syrian President Bashar] Assad,” Khoja said.

Similar claims were made by the BBC, Fox News, Al Jazeera and numerous other news outlets.

Moscow harshly criticized the reports, labeling them an information war.

“Russia didn’t even begin its operation against Islamic State… Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov didn’t even utter his first words at the UN Security Council, but numerous reports already emerged in the media that civilians are dying as a result of the Russian operation and that it’s aimed at democratic forces in the country (Syria),” Maria Zakharova, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, told media.

Maria Zakharova, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman

“It’s all an information attack, a war, of which we’ve heard so many times,” she added.

Zakharova also said that she was amazed by the scale and speed of what she called “info injections” into social networks such as “photos of alleged victims” that appeared on the web as soon as the Russian operation began.

“What can I say? We all know perfectly how such pictures are made,” she said, remembering a Hollywood flick ‘Wag the Dog,’ which described the US media reporting on a fake war in Albania.

For those who missed it, see here for our assessment of the Western media’s take on the first round of Russian airstrikes (and by the way we, like Maria, were surprised at how quickly the propaganda machine kicked into high gear). Here is the bottom line:

The bottom line going forward is that the US and its regional and European allies are going to have to decide whether they want to be on the right side of history here or not, and as we’ve been careful to explain, no one is arguing that Bashar al-Assad is the most benevolent leader in the history of statecraft but it has now gotten to the point where Western media outlets are describing al-Qaeda as “moderate” in a last ditch effort to explain away Washington’s unwillingness to join Russia in stabilizing Syria. This is a foreign policy mistake of epic proportions on the part of the US and the sooner the West concedes that and moves to correct it by admitting that none of the groups the CIA, the Pentagon, and Washington’s Mid-East allies have trained and supported represent a viable alternative to the Assad regime, the sooner Syria will cease to be the chessboard du jour for a global proxy war that’s left hundreds of thousands of innocent people dead.

Ann Coulter Letter: “The War on America Turns 50”

Authored by  Ann Coulter  |

The War on America Turns 50

Half a century ago, Democrats looked at the country and realized they were never going to convince Americans to agree with them. But they noticed that people in most other countries of the world already agreed with them. The solution was obvious.

So in 1965 — 50 years ago this week — Sen. Ted Kennedy passed an immigration law that has brought 59 million foreigners to our shores, who happen to vote 8-2 for the Democrats.

Democrats haven’t won any arguments; they changed the voters. If anything, the Democrats have stopped bothering to appeal to Americans. The new feminized Democratic Party says, That’s too bad about those steelworkers in Ohio losing their jobs, but THERE’S A WOMAN AT A LAW FIRM IN NEW YORK CITY WHO DESERVES TO MAKE PARTNER!Picture1Republicans should be sweeping the country, but they aren’t, because of Kennedy’s immigration law. Without post-1965 immigrants bloc-voting for the Democrats, Obama never would have been elected president, and Romney would have won a bigger landslide against him in 2012 than Reagan did against Carter in 1980.illegalalienvoters-300x300This isn’t a guess; it’s a provable fact. Obama beat Romney by less than 5 million votes in a presidential election in which about 125 million votes were cast. More than 30 million of Obama’s votes came from people who arrived under Teddy Kennedy’s immigration law; fewer than 10 million of Romney’s did.

The 1965 act brought in the poorest of the poor from around the globe. Non-English-speaking peasants from wildly backward cultures could be counted on to be dependent on government assistance for generations to come.

Kennedy and other Democrats swore up and down that the new immigration law would not change the country’s demographics, but post-1965-act immigrants are nothing like the people who already lived here.Destroyed for lack of knowledgeAs Pew Research cheerfully reports, previous immigrants were “almost entirely” European. But since Kennedy’s immigration act, a majority of immigrants have been from Latin America. One-quarter are from Asia. Only 12 percent of post-1965-act immigrants have been from Europe — and they’re probably Muslims.

Apparently, the “American experiment” is actually some kind of sociological trial in which we see if people who have no history of Western government can run a constitutional republic. As of 1970, there were only 9 million Hispanics in the entire country, according to the Pew Research Center. Today, there are well more than 60 million.

We’ve already taken in one-quarter of the entire population of Mexico, most of whom seem to live in Los Angeles. For the last decade, nearly half of all felons sent to California’s prisons have been Hispanic, according to the Department of Corrections.

  • In 1970, there were only a few thousand Haitians in America. Today, there are nearly a million. Miami beaches and New York parks are suddenly littered with goat heads from Haitian voodoo rituals.
  • In 1970, there were virtually no Somalis in the United States. In the past 25 years alone, we’ve brought in more than 80,000 Somali refugees — and more than half of those since 9/11. Recent headlines out of Minnesota: “Minnesota ISIS terror suspect pleads guilty to conspiracy,” “February trial date set for Minnesota ISIS terror suspects,” “The Twin Cities have an ISIS problem.”

(Possible new GOP slogan: “We’ll cut your taxes, as long as these voodoo priests and refugees approve it.”)

  • In 1960, there were about 200,000 Muslims in the U.S., according to a study in the International Journal of Environmental Science and Development. Today, the U.S. Census estimates that there are more than 6 million Muslims here. Muslims are expected to surpass Jews as the second-largest religion in America in about two decades.

No country has ever simply turned itself into another country like this.

With the media cheering the end of America and businessmen determined to keep importing cheap labor, Democrats don’t even bother hiding what they’re doing.

Democratic political strategists Ruy Teixeira and John Judis have been gloating for 20 years about how post-1965 immigration would soon produce a country where Republicans could not win an election, anywhere. Then Democrats could do whatever they want. They called the new emerging majority “George McGovern’s Revenge.”Tyranney Alert

In today’s America, George McGovern would be a moderate Democrat; Jimmy Carter would be a two-term president; and we’d be holding primary debates at the Walter Mondale Presidential Museum and Library.

Any GOP candidate for president who wants to increase immigration — i.e., all of them except Trump — ought to be required to first pass this simple test: Be successfully elected governor of California on a platform of tax cuts and social conservatism.

The Democrats got the voters — and the country got

  • 9/11,
  • Fort Hood,
  • the Boston Marathon bombing,
  • clitorectomies,
  • an explosion of gang rapes,
  • child rapes,
  • sex tourism,
  • slavery,
  • voodoo,
  • Russell Brand,
  • billions of taxpayer dollars stolen in Medicare and Medicaid scams,
  • an epidemic of heroin deaths,
  • bankrupt school districts and hospitals,
  • overcrowded prisons,
  • and endless tax hikes to pay for all the immigrant services, as small town after small town goes all-Mexican, or all-Somali or all-Hmong.

The people coming in aren’t the ones exulting about “the browning of America.” It’s smug liberals who want America to be humbled and destroyed. The cultural left is overjoyed at the remaking of our society into one that is poorer, browner and less free.

These changes are entirely the result of government policies that were never debated, much less put to a vote. Americans have not been consulted on the question of whether to turn our country into some other country.

Never mind what we’re doing. You’ll thank us later.Partyof Deceit Spin and Lies

I know it’s gauche to consider what Americans want, but how about the immigrants? Presumably some didn’t come only for the welfare, crime and terrorism opportunities. They decided to move to the United States — not Mexico or Somalia or China — because they wanted to live in America. If our current immigration policies aren’t stopped, they’re going to wonder why they bothered.
