How Kim Davis Can Be Released From Jail Without Agreeing to Violate Her Conscience

Commentary By Roger Severino

Rowan County, Ky., is a lesson for America in how not to resolve social conflict. The local head clerk is sitting in jail, and a judge has ordered her deputy clerks to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples in her absence. When the Supreme Court redefined marriage for the nation in an activist decision this June, it took the issue out of the democratic process and made it much harder for citizens to navigate our differences on this fundamental institution. Both sides of the debate knew the decision would have significant social effects. For civil servants like clerks who issue marriage licenses, the implications were also immediately personal.cp 11

Rowan County clerk Kim Davis could not, as a matter of religious conviction, issue same-sex marriage licenses. Davis’ further dilemma is the fact that her name is attached to every county marriage license, and she believes issuing them to same-sex couples would constitute precisely the kind of endorsement of same-sex unions her faith forbids. Because of that, her office stopped issuing all marriage licenses after the Supreme Court decision.

A lawsuit followed and a federal court on August 12 ordered her to issue licenses despite her faith-based objections. She did not comply with the order, and at a hearing Thursday the judge sentburke Davis to jail for contempt of court, even though the plaintiffs had specifically asked she be given fines instead of jail time. The judge ordered the deputy clerks to issue marriage licenses or also face contempt of court and five out of six said they would comply. Meanwhile, the judge has told Davis she will stay in jail because she will not comply with his orders.

This situation could have been avoided. This problem would not have even existed in Kentucky and many other parts of the country had the Supreme Court allowed states to deal with the marriage question democratically—with the give-and-take that naturally leads to compromises, the balancing of competing interests, and a diversity of solutions over time. Instead the Supreme Court redefined the institution for the entire country in one fell swoop but did not say how our constitutional guarantee of religious liberty would be reconciled with the new order of things.

Conflicts have been warned about for years, and all four dissenters to the Supreme Court’s marriage decision predicted dire consequences for religious freedom. SCOTUS GIANT

Given the inevitable challenges to this fundamental freedom, it is imperative that we seek solutions to navigate the complex road ahead. In this particular case, there are a number of potential ways forward so that same-sex couples can get licenses as required by the courts and Kim Davis can be released from jail without having to agree to resign or violate her conscience.

One help in finding the way forward is Kentucky’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which requires the government to avoid substantially burdening religious expression absent a compelling government interest. There is no compelling government interest in keeping Kim Davis’s name on the licenses instead of the name of the deputy clerks who are willing to issue them. If it’s “just a little form”—as Davis’ critics would like to suggest—then change the form, not the beliefs.Picture5

There are a number of other possible accommodations that could be adopted by the legislature, courts, or executive agencies in the state. Davis is not interested in stopping all same-sex marriages in her county. She is only asking that she not be forced to participate in them in a way that violates her beliefs.

Opt-out systems like this work in many walks of life. In fact, we already have examples of such options being adopted in the marriage licensing context. For example, North Carolina allows objecting clerks to choose to not get involved with marriage licensing at all, and the state will guarantee that someone will take their place if needed. Hawaii has an online registration system for marriage licensing that gets rid of many of these concerns.

Whatever the method, people of good will want a solution that leads to better outcomes than the impasse in Rowan County this week. Reaching such a solution in Kentucky is still feasible—and desirable, to respect the legally protected interests of the plaintiffs and the religious conscience of Kim Davis.

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) –

Two people were arrested and a third person is being sought after a shooting that left a Las Vegas Metro police officer wounded Friday morning. The shooting happened about 4 a.m. at a home in the 6700 block of Oveja Circle, near the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Alta Drive.

According to Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, Officer Jeremy Robertson and his partner were called to the home after the resident reported that someone was trying to break into the house. The officers arrived, met with the caller at the front door and walked to the back door, where the prowler was last seen. The officers were met with gunfire when they opened the back door. Robertson was shot in one of his legs by an AK-47 and fell to the ground. His partner returned fire, wounding one of the two people in the backyard.Leftist monster race

Lombardo said assisting units arrived and one of them deployed a K-9, which stopped 20-year-old Clemon Hudson, who was armed with a shotgun, from fleeing. Hudson was arrested.

Police established a perimeter and began looking for the second person believed to be involved in the shooting, Lombardo said. About three hours later, 24-year-old Steven Turner, who was the person who fired the AK-47, was found walking on a street about two blocks away from the scene.

Lombardo said investigators believe a third person involved in the shooting may have fled the scene in a white Nissan Maxima before officers arrived.

Robertson underwent surgery at University Medical Center and was expected to recover, Lombardo said.

Hudson was treated for dog bites, Lombardo said.

Turner was treated for a gunshot wound to one of his legs, Lombardo said.

Lombardo said investigators do not believe that Hudson or Turner knew the homeowner, and they are still trying to determine the reason they were in the neighborhood.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.

Parents concerned over religious curriculum

Maury County parents are expressing concern after their children came home with world history schoolwork containing references to Islam and its teachings. The school district contends the curriculum has been in place for more than three decades, and world history is difficult to teach without referencing religions.

Brandee Porterfield has a daughter in seventh grade at Spring Hill Middle School. She said her daughter brought home school materials containing the Five Pillars of Islam. While she agrees that Islam is part of history and does not have a problem with schools teaching about the religion, she said the lesson skipped a chapter about Christianity.Picture1

Porterfield said school officials moved past the chapter because it was not part of the state’s standards.

“I have big problem with that. From a historical point of view, that’s a lot of history these kids are missing,” she said. “Also, for them to spend three weeks on Islam after having skipped Christianity, it seems to be that they are making a choice about which religion to discuss.”Picture2

The mother said she was concerned about her child being taught the “Shahada,” the Muslim profession of faith which was contained in a foldable teaching material. One of the translations of the creed reads, “There is no god but Allah; Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”Islam is NOT

“I have no problem with the teacher at all. It’s just that yellow foldable seems to be teaching our children religion in schools, and only that religion,” Porterfield said. “From a religion point of view, if the schools are going to be teaching religion in history, they need to teach them all equally.”

Joy Ellis, who also has seventh-grader at Spring Hill Middle School, said she was aware students were studying Islam but took issue with the Shahada section. “To me, a Christian child should not be made to write that,” Ellis said.AMEN

Ellis believes religion does not belong in schools, but if it is going to be taught, then Christianity should be taught because it is the most common in the United States.

According to a Pew Research Center study in 2014 that surveyed 35,000 people from across the U.S., 81 percent of Tennesseans asked identified as Christian. One percent identified as Muslim, while 14 percent said they were not affiliated with any religion. National numbers showed 70.6 of those surveyed said they were Christian, while 0.9 percent identified as Muslim, according to the data.

“I honestly don’t want my child learning about Islam at all, but if they’ve got to learn about it, I would like for them to learn about the historical aspects of it and definitely nothing about the religion … I don’t want her writing ‘Allah is the only god,’ Ellis said.

Dr. Jan Hanvey, Maury County Public Schools middle school supervisor, said the curriculum and topics have been covered for at least 31 years. She is a former social studies teacher. She said teachers do not spend three weeks specifically talking about Islam, but rather the geography, culture, economics and government surrounding the religion. Islam is discussed for about one day of the three-week period, Hanvey said. By the end of the year, students will have studied Buddhism, Hinduism and other religions, she said. “It’s part of history. If you don’t talk about it, then you are leaving out the ‘why,’” Hanvey said. “Children need to know the ‘why,’ and they need to be able to learn and know where to find the facts, instead of going by what they hear or what they see on the Internet.”More Liberal Gibberish

The chapter on Christianity was not skipped over but was put off until a later date, she said. The textbook’s chapter layout does not drive instruction. Instead, teachers use a pacing guide that may be different from chapter chronology, Hanvey said. The state’s pacing guide says seventh grade social studies begins with the Islamic world, then moves on to studies in ancient Africa. The year ends with the “Age of Exploration,” which is continued in eighth grade.

Christianity is studied during the Age of Exploration section partly because religious persecution is one of the main reasons pilgrims left in search of a new world, Hanvey said.

Tennessee teachers helped develop the teaching standards, and the state makes its tests based on them, she added.

Ashley Ball, Tennessee Department of Education spokeswoman, said in an email the state sets academic standards or expectations for what students should know or be able to do in each grade. Local districts determine the curriculum, tailoring what classroom instruction looks like to their students and teachers, she wrote. Per the state standards, all major religions are taught across sixth and seventh grade, Ball added.

Modern events have caused “fear” of Islam, Hanvey said. She compared it to the 1940s when people were afraid of Japanese culture and people during World War II. “It’s hard to separate religion from history,” Hanvey said. “It’s teaching about religion. We are not trying to convert.”What did you say 06.jpg

Spring Hill Middle School Principal Shanda Sparrow said in a statement that seventh grade teachers who shared the semester’s syllabus at the beginning of the year are having fewer questions from parents. She acknowledges the school did “not do the best job” highlighting topics that might be considered controversial, including sensitive topics like religion.

Sparrow said in the statement the school will be offering a brief forum at its Sept. 17 Parent-Teacher conferences in which parents can ask questions. “We have responded to parents who’ve contacted us about the Islam unit of world history. In addition to that, we want all parents to know about the content of social studies (and) world history and continue an open dialogue about that,” Sparrow said. “An open dialogue with our parents is essential for us to maintain good parent relationships, and I’ve appreciated parents’ willingness to bring to me — and to the school district — classroom issues they have concerns about.”

On Thursday, Maury County Schools Director Chris Marczak issued a statement through the Maury County Public Schools’ Facebook page.

“By now, many of you have heard what is taking place with concerns to the teaching section of middle school social studies. The standards that we have in place from the State of Tennessee are newer standards that were developed in 2013 and implemented last year, 2014-15 school year. In middle school, the standards have us address early American History, world history early civilizations to the Roman Empire, middle ages through exploration of the Americas, and colonization to reconstruction of the Americas. Our teachers work together to make sure that our students are learning what is expected through the Tennessee academic standards. For this last section on the Islamic World this past week, our educators had students complete an assignment that had an emphasis on Islamic Faith. The assignment covered some sensitive topics that are of importance to Islamic religion and caused some confusion around whether we are asking students to believe in or simply understand the religion. It is our job as a public school system to educate our students on world history in order to be ready to compete in a global society, not to endorse one religion over another or indoctrinate,” Marczak wrote.Picture4

“I encourage all Maury County parents to be their child’s first and main teacher. It is our job as parents of our own children to instill in them the beliefs of our individual households. It’s important that we establish a good working relationship with our children’s teachers and schools so that when there are questions or concerns, teachers and principals are the first line of asking. If we are truly going to Grow Maury County together, then we need to openly talk and discuss about what we want to emphasize in our county. I encourage you to talk with your children, talk with your teachers, and talk with your principals. We are here to help your children be prepared for Life,” he wrote.

WHAT A JOKE! The Real Scoop on Obama’s Trip to Look at Glaciers

waving flag4 September 2015

Did you see this rather ironic story on IsThatBaloney.com? Evidently, Mr. Obama is SOOO concerned about the environment that he had fly to Alaska and get his picture taken with the melting glaciers threatening our very existence. The irony is the ‘cost’ to the environment (not to mention, the taxpayers) for making such a monumental trip.

From IsThatBaloney.com:

1. Air Force One burns 5 gallons of fuel for every mile it travels.

2. It is roughly 4,000 air miles to Anchorage Alaska from Washington DC thus taking 20,000 gallons of expensive fuel to get there.

3. Jet fuel puts 21.1 pounds of carbon into the atmosphere for every gallon burned thus pumping out 422,000 pounds or 211 tons of CO2 to get to Alaska.

4. It costs $228,000 an hour to operate Air Force One.

5. It is roughly an 8.5 hour flight to Anchorage from DC thus costing $1,938,000 to get President Obama to Alaska.

6. Obama has to get back, so DOUBLE all those costs and impacts for a total of 40,000 gallons of fuel burned, 844,000 pounds or 422 tons of CO2 emitted costing $3,876,000, just to fly Air Force One, so Obama can look like he is doing something about climate change.

7. That does not include any military support planes, multiple gas guzzling limos, accommodations for some 50 secret service agents, local police and other resources. When you add all that in, President Obama probably costs the American taxpayers $10 million or more so he could have his picture taken.

It is beyond all rational thinking to grasp how folks are so easily swayed by the hype surrounding climate change – and the hypocritical ‘stance’ of most liberals. Obama is hypocrite number one. He could care less about the environment – the trip to Alaska actually proved that. His agenda is much greater, but these idiots are too stupid to recognize it.

This whole thing made me think of Ted Cruz’s response to some climate change activists the other day. Did you see the story on Right Scoop?

I’m going to post just Cruz’s bottom line – the point where he schools the activists on the reality of climate change. It’s BRILLIANT. Of course, Cruz isn’t going to get the attention that Obama gets jetting across the country in Air Force One to “save the planet.” Go to Right Scoop and watch the interaction, but here is Cruz’s response when asked if he believed in Climate change…

Cruz- “… Let’s step back for a second and look at this with some historical perspective. Thirty to forty years ago there were a group of political liberal and scientists who said we were facing global cooling. They said we were headed toward a global ice age and the solution to global cooling was increased was massive government control of the economy, the energy sector, and every aspect of our lives. Then the data disproved it. It was not in fact correct that we were seeing global cooling. So that was kind of a problem. Then many of these same political liberals, and many of these same scientists they then latched on to a new theory, it’s called global warming. And the new theory of global warming interestingly enough, the solution was the exact same as the solution had been for global cooling. It was massive government control of the economy, the energy sector, and every aspect of our lives. But then the problem became the data and evidence didn’t back up global warming. In particular if you look at the satellite data. Listen I am the son of two scientists and mathematicians. It is the essence of science to look to the evidence. In the last eighteen years there has been no meaningful recorded warming according to the satellite data. So all of a sudden all these political liberals, the evidence and data didn’t back them up. So then the theory changed to a third version, it’s just been in the last few years when the theory magically transformed into climate change. And climate change from the perspective of a political liberal who wants government power climate change is the perfect pseudo-scientific theory. Why is that? Because it can never be disproven. Whether it’s hotter or colder, whether is wetter or drier the climate is always changing. Now you asked a question, ‘do you believe in climate change?’. Of course! From the dawn of time the climate has been changing. Until the end of time the climate will change. And yet interestingly enough the political liberals, their solution to climate change is exactly the same as it was to global cooling and global warming. Massive government control of the economy, energy sector, and our lives. And when you start to see politicians who propose the exact same solution to every problem regardless of the facts or the data you start to think these are politicians who just want power over our lives. You know what I’m interested in? I’m interested in the single moms who are working here who are struggling to feed their families and are seeing their electric bills skyrocketing because these political liberals are driving up their electric bills, driving up their energy bills, making it harder and harder to provide for their kids. We need to follow the facts and data and not just give power to a bunch of out of touch elites in Washington over our lives.”

Honestly, I love Cruz! Our nation would benefit from having a man like him as President. As for our ‘acting’ President – well, there is nothing nice to say – and that’s putting it nicely.

BREAKING: Mike Huckabee Just Put Himself On The Line Big Time For Kim Davis

Kentucky Court Clerk Kim Davis is getting some national support from former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee. Huckabee is holding a rally to protest Davis’ imprisonment on a contempt charge. The rally, called the “I’m With Kim Liberty Rally” will be held in Kentucky on Sept. 8.

“What a world, where Hillary Clinton isn’t in jail but Kim Davis is,” Huckabee said after the clerk was taken into federal custody on Sept. 3.

U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning held Davis, who is the Rowan County court clerk, in contempt for refusing to cp 11issue same-sex marriage licenses after Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear issued a mandate to issue the licenses. Davis is represented by Liberty Counsel in the case. Mat Saver, founder and chairman of the law group known for addressing religious discrimination issues, will join Huckabee at the rally.

“This is a reckless, appalling, out-of-control decision that undermines the Constitution of the United States and our fundamental right to religious liberty. Having Kim Davis in federal custody removes all doubt of the criminalization of Christianity in our country. We must defend religious liberty and never surrender to judicial tyranny,” Huckabee said.Tyranney Alert

want_rel_liberty_rHuckabee isn’t the only presidential candidate to support Davis. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul said putting the clerk in jail wasn’t a good idea. “I think it’s absurd to put someone in jail for exercising their religious liberty,” Paul said in an interview after the decision. “I think it’s a real mistake and even those on the other side of the issue, I think it sets their movement back.” Paul said the jailing will harden people’s opinions on same-sex marriage and will encourage local courts across the country to “opt out” of issuing licenses altogether.

Other candidates, including Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, said the federal judge went too far. “We are seeing government today discriminate against whether it’s clerks, florists, musicians or others. I think that’s wrong. I think you should be able to keep your job and follow your conscience,” Jindal said.

Walker said religious freedom is a fundamental right. “I read that the Constitution is very clear that people have freedom of religion — you have the freedom to practice religious beliefs out there, it’s a fundamental right,” the Wisconsin governor said.Picture1

CombinedHuckabee said the sticking point in the case is that Davis actually didn’t break any laws. The United States Supreme Court did not make a law when justices issued their same-sex marriage ruling earlier this summer; they simply ruled on the constitutionality of bans states had in place, according to Huckabee. Only Congress can actually make a law, he said. The Kentucky legislature, likewise, has not created a law allowing for same-sex marriage.

Huckabee said that the U.S. Supreme Court had no legal precedent when it ruled on the case, and that their ruling is not backed up by the Constitution. The presidential candidate tweeted that if the refusal to implement federal law should be punished with jail time, there are others across the country who should face the same fate.

“#KimDavis in jail for not issuing same-sex wedding licenses. Why aren’t San Fran officials in jail for ignoring immigration law?” Huckabee said in the tweet.

Ted Cruz Blasts Jailing of Christian Kentucky Clerk as Un-American

waving flagBY: September 4, 2015

URL of the original posting site: http://freebeacon.com/politics/ted-cruz-blasts-jailing-of-christian-kentucky-clerk-as-un-american

Ted Cruz slammed the decision by a federal judge to order a Kentucky county clerk to jail for refusing to issue marriage cp 11licenses to same-sex couples on the basis of her Christian faith, labeling it un-American. “Today, judicial lawlessness crossed into judicial tyranny,” the Republican presidential candidate said in a statement Thursday afternoon. “Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith. This is wrong. This is not America.”

Cruz declared that he stands with Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis “unequivocally” for refraining from issuing any marriage licenses in the more than two-month period since the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage nationwide.

“I stand with every American that the Obama administration is trying to force to choose between honoring his or her faith or complying with a lawless court opinion,” the Texas senator said, citing dissents in the June 26 court opinion.

want_rel_liberty_rCruz labeled those calling for Davis’s resignation “hypocritical” for not demanding the same of lawmakers who support policies that bolster illegal immigration, including President Obama. “Where is the call for the mayor of San Francisco to resign for creating a sanctuary city—resulting in the murder of American citizens by criminal illegal aliens welcomed by his lawlessness?” Cruz asked. “Where is the call for President Obama to resign for ignoring and defying our immigration laws, our welfare reform laws, and even his own Obamacare?”

He accused those criticizing the county clerk of holding the belief that Christians “should not serve in public office.”

“Kim Davis should not be in jail. We are a country founded on Judeo-Christian values, founded by those fleeing religious oppression and seeking a land where we could worship God and live according to our faith, without being imprisoned for doing so,” Cruz concluded, calling upon individuals governed by faith and loyalty to the Constitution to express support for Davis and “stop the persecution.”Combined

Several Republican presidential candidates have responded to news of Davis’ jailing, Gov. Mike Huckabee writing on Twitter that “exercising religious liberty should never be a crime in America.” Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum labeled Davis’ action “heroic.”

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton stood by the federal judge’s decision Thursday, writing on social media, “Marriage equality is the law of the land. Officials should be held to their duty to uphold the law—end of story.”Leftist determonation to destroy freedom of religion

Clinton is currently entangled in an FBI investigation into whether or not she knowingly sent or received classified information on her private email server.

After Davis was sent to jail, Rowan County issued its first marriage license to a gay couple Friday morning.

Texas Governor Calls for Statewide ‘Stand with Law Enforcement’

waving flagby Bob Price and Lana Shadwick 2 Sep 2015

Texas Governor Greg Abbott called for police officers across the state of Texas to honor the funeral of slain Harris County Deputy Sheriff Darren Goforth on Friday. The Governor asks that all police officers across the state “stand with law enforcement” by turning on their emergency lights for one-minute to mark the beginning of the deputy’s funeral being held in Houston.

“Respect and pride in our law enforcement must be restored in this state and nation,” said Governor Abbott in a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas. “It is time to unite in solidarity to support the men and women who serve and protect our communities. I ask that communities across Texas support this cause for unity and remember the essential role that law enforcement plays in keeping Texas safe and strong.”

Abbott announced a procession of law enforcement patrol cars will gather at the north drive of the Texas Capitol on Friday morning as a show of unity.

The Governor’s statement calls for the following:

  • WHO: All Law Enforcement Officers
  • WHAT: Law Enforcement Patrol Cars Turn On Red And Blue Flashing Lights
  • WHEN: Friday, September 4th, 11:00AM CT

Civilian vehicles could also show a statement of support for Goforth’s family and all law enforcement officers by turning on their headlights and emergency flashers at the designated time.

Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick joined in Abbott’s call for honoring the fallen deputy. “I challenge all Texans to think about how underappreciated our officers must feel, how dangerous their jobs are, how they leave their families everyday not knowing if they are coming home and more importantly,” Patrick wrote in a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas, “if there is anything you can do to help make their job a little easier.”

The Lt. Governor suggested the following as a way for the public to show support for law enforcement:

  • Start calling our officers sir and ma’am all of the time. It’s a show of respect they deserve
  • Every time you see an officer anywhere, let them know you appreciate their service to our community and you stand with them
  • If you are financially able, when you see them in a restaurant on duty pick up their lunch check, send over a dessert, or simply stop by their table briefly and say thank you for their service
  • Put their charities on your giving list
  • If your local law enforcement has volunteer-citizen job opportunities, sign up

Patrick asked Texans to join him in prayer to support fallen law enforcement officers. He will be attending a special service at the First Baptist Church of Conroe Wednesday night at 5:15 p.m. The church is located at 600 North Main Street in Conroe.

This comes in the wake of Deputy Goforth’s brutal assassination, allegedly by a black man named Shannon Miles. The suspect is reported to have, for no other reason that Goforth was wearing a police uniform, fired fifteen rounds from a pistol into the head and back of the deputy.

Over 1,000 people turned out for an impromptu vigil Saturday night at the Chevron station where Goforth was murdered, as reported by Breitbart Texas.

The man accused of shooting Deputy Goforth, Shannon Miles, appeared in court in Houston on Monday morning surrounded by a dozen deputies, as reported by Breitbart Texas. Miles has been charged with capital murder of a peace officer. The felony charge can include the death penalty.

As reported by Breitbart Texas, Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson said the suspect unloaded 15 rounds into the deputy.

Breitbart Texas has reported about the anti-peace officer rhetoric in Texas, and about graffiti images calling for violence against police have appeared on property around Houston, Texas. The emojis show a police officer with a gun pointed to his head.

Law enforcement officials have stated that this anti-police rhetoric must stop.

A Texas woman garnered an unexpected national spotlight on Tuesday after tweeting that a Harris County deputy deserved to be executed was arrested. Monica Foy tweeted after Deputy Goforth’s death, “I can’t believe so many people care about a dead cop and NO ONE has thought to ask what he did to deserve it. He had creepy perv eyes…,” as reported by Breitbart Texas. Foy was arrested in her home county on an assault warrant out of Houston. The arrest stems from a 2011 incident where she allegedly punched a former co-worker in the face causing bodily injury.Never Argue Delusional

Breitbart Texas reported that funeral services for Deputy Darren Goforth has been set for Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. The mega-church is the fifth largest in the country and can accommodate thousands of people.

SJWs Unite: Taylor Swift’s New Music Video RAAAAACIST

waving flagby Ben Shapiro 2 Sep 2015

The video is obviously a riff on various high-profile celebrity romances from the so-called Golden Age of Hollywood, when co-stars would routinely travel abroad to exotic locales, become lovers, and then return back to the United States with their personal baggage. Swift’s suddenly-brunette hair is a shout-out to Elizabeth Taylor, and the whole scenario reeks of Taylor’s romance with Richard Burton.

The video concludes with this line: “All of Taylor’s proceeds from this video will be donated to wild animal conservation efforts through the African Parks Foundation of America.”

This nod to environmentalism bought no sympathy from the social justice warriors, however, who have deemed the video – you guessed it – racist. Viviane Rutabingwa and James Kassaga Arinaitwe, professional useless people, wrote a piece for NPR in which they accuse Swift of bigotry for the cast’s excessive whiteness – even though the video has nothing to do with Africa or African people except as a shout-out to an Out of Africa stylistic flourish. Rutabingwa and Arinaitwe write:

We are shocked to think that in 2015, Taylor Swift, her record label and her video production group would think it was OK to film a video that presents a glamorous version of the white colonial fantasy of Africa.More Evidence

Wut?

They continue by labeling Ernest Hemingway’s Snows of Kilimanjaro and David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia romanticizations of colonialism, then add, snidely:

Here are some facts for Swift and her team: Colonialism was neither romantic nor beautiful. It was exploitative and brutal. The legacy of colonialism still lives quite loudly to this day. Scholars have argued that poor economic performance, weak property rights and tribal tensions across the continent can be traced to colonial strategies. So can other woes. In a place full of devastation and lawlessness, diseases spread like wildfire, conflict breaks out and dictators grab power.cause of death

Presumably, Swift should have shown some Boers raping native Africans in the background, or perhaps a picture of an Ebola-stricken villager dying beneath the boots of a Cecil Rhodes-looking actor. The social justice warriors conclude:

She should absolutely be able to use any location as a backdrop. But she packages our continent as the backdrop for her romantic songs devoid of any African person or storyline, and she sets the video in a time when the people depicted by Swift and her co-stars killed, dehumanized and traumatized millions of Africans. That is beyond problematic.insane

Did Elizabeth Taylor dehumanize and traumatize millions of Africans? Aside from her performance in Cleopatra, there has been no evidence to substantiate such a claim. But absence of white guilt in any context is now proof of racism. If you don’t affirmatively load your music video with critiques of South African apartheid, while filming a video that has nothing to do with apartheid, you must be upholding apartheid. If you show white people in Africa without showing those white people impoverishing black people in Africa, you’re an emissary of imperialism. Sure, it might be jarring to hear Swift singing about lost love while carrying a sign reading, “RHODESIA BLOWS.” But it’s the message that counts.

Ridiculously, the mainstream media is now taking such critiques seriously. The Daily Mail (UK) has run with the Swift story as its top headline. The Guardian ran with the story, too. So did The Wrap, The Daily Mirror, and Newsweek. Huffington Post entertainment reporter Lauren Duca wrote that the video “sure felt like some harkening back to white colonialism… Instead of the cultural appropriation that has become almost status quo in today’s pop music, Swift has opted for the bolder option of actually just embodying the political exploitation of a region and its people. It’s brave, really.”

Thus far, Swift has offered no defense. But clearly she must be made to pay for the grave sin of being a white person with a music video set in Africa. Coldplay, you’re on notice. You too, Lily Allen.

The director, Kahn, finding himself in the crosshairs of the SJWs, has now released a statement:

Wildest Dreams is a song about a relationship that was doomed, and the music video concept was that they were having a love affair on location away from their normal lives. This is not a video about colonialism but a love story on the set of a period film crew in Africa,1950….The reality is not only were there people of color in the video, but the key creatives who worked on this video are people of color. I am Asian American, the producer Jil Hardin is an African American woman, and the editor Chancler Haynes is an African American man.

Such protestations carry no weight with those who mandate popular culture narratives, however. And this controversy is merely the latest attempt by hard left culture dictators to label Swift a racist. In 2014, critics said Swift was racist for her idiotic Shake It Off video, in which she awkwardly attempts break dancing and twerking.

Just months ago, the vastly untalented Nicki Minaj complained on Twitter about the supposed racism of the Video Music Awards for not nominating her Anaconda rump-shaking routine for Video of the Year, adding a slap at Swift: “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.” Swift responded, “I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.” Minaj then denied she had referred to Swift in the first place, and her supporters called Swift racist, prompting Swift to back down.

Everything is now racist, unless it is explicitly anti-racist – even if it has nothing to do with racism. The bad news: every music video will now contain an obligatory disclaimer supporting Black Lives Matter, even music videos from Kenny G. The good news: Spike Lee just found himself a second career.

An Alabama pastor wrote a moving song with an important message: all lives matter. Pastor Jim Lowe of the Guiding Light Church said today on “Fox and Friends” that everyone’s life is important, and all people have a purpose in this world. “God gave us two commandments,” Lowe said. “The first one was to love him, and the second one was to love one another… All we need in this world is a lot more love and a lot more unity.”

Watch the Guiding Light Church choir perform Lowe’s song, “All Lives Matter,” in the video below.

Ann Coulter Letter: “How to Write a New York Times Op-Ed in Three Easy Steps”

waving flagAnn Coulter |

URL of the original posting site: http://humanevents.com/2015/09/02/how-to-write-a-new-york-times-op-ed-in-three-easy-steps/?utm_source=coulterdaily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nl

How to Write a New York Times Op-Ed in Three Easy Steps

Today we’ll talk about how to write a New York Times op-ed in 45 minutes or less. We all like labor-saving tips! The main point to keep in mind is that your op-ed is not intended to elucidate, educate or amuse. These are status pieces meant to strike a pose, signaling that you are a good person. After reading your op-ed, readers should feel the warm sensation of being superior to other people — those who don’t agree with you. The idea is to be in fashion. It’s all about attitude, heavy on eye-rolling.

(1) Psychoanalyze conservatives as paranoid and insecure.

Liberals — who, to a man, have been in psychoanalysis — enjoy putting people they disagree with on the operating table and performing a vivisection, as if conservatives are some lower life form.

Thus, for example, an op-ed in this week’s Times by Arthur Goldwag was titled “Putting Donald Trump on the Couch.”

This should not be confused with Justin A. Frank’s 2004 book, “Bush on the Couch,” offering a detailed diagnosis of Bush’s alleged mental disorders.

Nor should it be confused with a column that went up on Daily Kos the day after I wrote this column, psychoanalyzing me. (I’m just glad I snubbed the guy in high school.)

Goldwag explained: “Mr. Trump’s angry certainty …”

Let’s pause right here. I am obsessed with Donald Trump. I wish I could cancel my book tour and just lie in bed watching his speeches all day long. I’m like a lovesick teenager studying Justin Bieber videos. And I’ve never seen Trump look angry.

(Goldwag continued) ” … that immigrants and other losers are destroying the country while the cultural elites that look down on him stand by and do nothing resonates strongly with the less-educated, lower-income whites who appear to be his base.”

Yes, Trump’s base are “less-educated.” This is as opposed to Democratic voters, who couldn’t figure out how to fill in a Florida ballot in 2000.

True, writing like this will expose your own gigantic paranoia at being excluded from historic WASP America. If you start obsessing over the Augusta National Golf Club (as the Times did for one solid decade), people will naturally begin to suspect that you’re resentful toward traditional American culture.

But I am not giving lessons in self-esteem here. I’m trying to help you dash off an op-ed in record time. Psychoanalysis has been liberals’ go-to move forever.

Following the 1964 presidential election, the American Psychiatric Association was forced to issue “the Goldwater rule,” prohibiting shrinks from psychoanalyzing people they’d never met, after a few thousand of them had issued their professional opinion that Barry Goldwater was nuts. (A “frightened person,” “paranoid,” “grossly psychotic” and a “megalomaniac.”)

Some Times writer probably produced an op-ed calling Calvin Coolidge “paranoid.”

It’s not very interesting, but, again, the sole purpose of your op-ed is to assure the status-anxious that they are better than other people.

(2) The perfect hack phrase is to say conservatives are “frightened of the country changing around them.”

Examples:

– “The Tea Party, to be most benign about it, is primarily white, it is witnessing a country changing around it. It feels angry, feels — the diversity.” — Katrina Vanden Heuvel, MSNBC, May 24, 2012

(You want angry? Go to an Al Sharpton rally.)

– “Old white guys (are) caught in a demographic vice, right? (They) are frankly a little nervous, right? The country is changing around them. … The country is becoming more brown, and more — younger. And the values are changing. Gay rights, women are working. I mean all of these things are happening and they are not quite sure what to do.” — Jamal Simmons, MSNBC, June 15, 2013

– “I don’t think these are organized hate groups. These are, by and large, more or less everyday citizens who are very fearful of the way the world is changing around them.” — Mark Potok, (spokesman for the country’s leading hate group, the Southern Poverty Law Center) in “Changing World Draws Racist Backlash,” The Philadelphia Tribune, June 28, 2010

I thought it was a nice gesture that Mark admitted that conservatives are not “organized hate groups.” We owe you one, Mark! You’re a super guy.

(3) Call conservatives “aggrieved” as often as possible.

Yes, this from the party of reparations, #BlackLivesMatter, comparable worth, “Lean In,” the DREAM Act and so on. If the Democratic Party were a reality TV show, it would be called “America’s Got Grievances!”

Examples:

– “‘We don’t have victories anymore,’ Mr. Trump told those deeply aggrieved Americans in June.” — Arthur Goldwag, op-ed: “Putting Donald Trump on the Couch,” The New York Times, Sept. 1, 2015

– “Mr. Bush has to win over a fair chunk of the aggrieved, frightened Trump voters.” — New York Times editorial, Aug. 26, 2015

– “You have this aggrieved conservative industry that makes their money by being aggrieved.” — John Feehery, Republican spokesman for former Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, quoted in New York Times, Jan. 15, 2015

You’re doing this not just for the $75 you’ll make for writing a Times op-ed. Dreadful hacks meet a need.

A lot of people are followers by nature. They just want to be told: Here are the politicians you admire, and here are the ones you disdain; here are the people you worship, and here are the ones you disparage; here are the TV shows you like, and here are the ones you despise.

Times writers are like personal shoppers for people too lazy to form their own opinions. Just don’t imagine that this is good writing, comedy or art. But it’s not bad for something you can dash off in about 45 minutes!

13 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Planned Parenthood Founder Margaret Sanger

waving flagPosted by Kate Scanlon / / July 22, 2015

Abortion monsterPlanned Parenthood, engulfed in a scandal following the release of two undercover videos, is the largest abortion provider in the United States. On its website, the organization compliments Margaret Sanger as one of the pro-choice movement’s “great heroes.” Sanger started the American Birth Control League in 1921; it became part of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America in 1942.

Planned Parenthood praises Sanger for “providing contraception and other health services” and “advancing access to family planning in the United States and around the world.” In addition to Planned Parenthood, Sanger also founded the Birth Control Review, a journal about contraception and population control.

Here are 13 things Sanger said during her lifetime.how many body parts

1) She proposed allowing Congress to solve “population problems” by appointing a “Parliament of Population.”

“Directors representing the various branches of science [in the Parliament would] … direct and control the population through birth rates and immigration, and direct its distribution over the country according to national needs consistent with taste, fitness and interest of the individuals.” —A Plan for Peace,” Birth Control Review, April 1932, pages 107-108

2) Sanger called the various methods of population control, including abortion, “defending the unborn against their own disabilities.” —A Plan for Peace,” Birth Control Review, April 1932, pages 107-108

3) Sanger believed that the United States should “keep the doors of immigration closed to the entrance of certain aliens whose condition is known to be detrimental to the stamina of the race, such as feebleminded, idiots, morons, Insane, syphilitic, epileptic, criminal, professional prostitutes, and others in this class barred by the immigration laws of 1924.” —A Plan for Peace,” Birth Control Review, April 1932, pages 107-108

4) Sanger advocated “a stern and rigid policy of sterilization and segregation to that grade of population whose PP Monsterprogeny is already tainted, or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring.” —A Plan for Peace,” Birth Control Review, April 1932, pages 107-108

5) People whom Sanger considered unfit, she wrote, should be sent to “farm lands and homesteads” where “they would be taught to work under competent instructors for the period of their entire lives.” —A Plan for Peace,” Birth Control Review, April 1932, pages 107-108

6) She was an advocate of a proposal called the “American Baby Code.”

“The results desired are obviously selective births,” she wrote.

According to Sanger, the code would “protect society against the propagation and increase of the unfit.” —“America Needs a Code for Babies,” March 27, 1934, Margaret Sanger Papers, Library of Congress, 128:0312B

7) While advocating for the American Baby Code, she argued that marriage licenses should provide couples with the right to only “a common household” but not parenthood. In fact, couples should have to obtain a permit to become parents:PP Monster

Article 3. A marriage license shall in itself give husband and wife only the right to a common household and not the right to parenthood.

Article 4. No woman shall have the legal right to bear a child, and no man shall have the right to become a father, without a permit for parenthood.

Article 5. Permits for parenthood shall be issued upon application by city, county, or state authorities to married couples, providing they are financially able to support the expected child, have the qualifications needed for proper rearing of the child, have no transmissible diseases, and, on the woman’s part, no PP Monstermedical indication that maternity is likely to result in death or permanent injury to health.

Article 6. No permit for parenthood shall be valid for more than one birth.

“All that sounds highly revolutionary, and it might be impossible to put the scheme into practice,” Sanger wrote. She added: “What is social planning without a quota?” —“America Needs a Code for Babies,” March 27, 1934, Margaret Sanger Papers, Library of Congress, 128:0312B

8) She believed that large families were detrimental to society.

“The most serious evil of our times is that of encouraging the bringing into the world of large families. The most immoral practice of the day is breeding too many children,” she wrote.

“The most merciful thing that the large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it,” she continued. PP MonsterWoman and the New Race,” 1920, Chapter 5: The Wickedness of Creating Large Families

9) She argued that motherhood must be “efficient.”

“Birth control itself, often denounced as a violation of natural law, is nothing more or less than the facilitation of the process of weeding out the unfit, of preventing the birth of defectives or of those who will become defectives,” Sanger wrote. Woman and the New Race,” 1920, Chapter 18: The Goal

10) Population control, she wrote, would bring about the “materials of a new race.”

“If we are to develop in America a new race with a racial soul, we must keep the birth rate within the scope of our ability to understand as well as to educate. We must not encourage reproduction beyond our capacity to assimilate our numbers so as to make the coming generation into such physically fit, mentally capable, socially alert individuals as are the ideal of a democracy,” Sanger wrote. Woman and the New Race,” 1920, Chapter 3: The Materials of the New Race

11) Sanger wrote that an excess in population must be reduced.PP Monster

“War, famine, poverty and oppression of the workers will continue while woman makes life cheap,” she wrote.

Mothers, “at whatever cost, she must emerge from her ignorance and assume her responsibility.” —Woman and the New Race,” 1920, Chapter 1: Woman’s Error and Her Debt

12) “We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population,” Sanger wrote. —Letter to Dr. Clarence Gamble on Dec., 10, 1939

13) In an interview with Mike Wallace in 1957, Sanger said, “I think the greatest sin in the world is bringing children into the world, that have disease from their parents, that have no chance in the world to be a human being practically.”

“Delinquents, prisoners, all sorts of things just marked when they’re born. That to me is the greatest sin—that people can—can commit,” she said.

A Sign of the Times: We Are The Militia! Semper Fi!

waving flagPosted by Nancy Hayes — September 2, 2015

A U.S. Marine decided that he didn’t want to stick with the traditional “No Trespassing” signs that you often see scattered around the boundary lines of people’s property.

10420087_847576345302496_8215605759636723172_n-470x636

The sign he chose instead instills a slight bit of fear in those who read it, but it also sends a powerful message on where he stands about his constitutional rights. It conveys his love for the First and Second Amendments as well as a healthy reminder that he has (probably) fought for this country.

Of course, we can only hope that the person who posted this sign is actually prepared to carry out the threat implied by the sign. If he isn’t, then it becomes as useless as one of those “Gun-Free School Zone” signs you see hanging in schools across America.

Increasingly, there is a trend across America of store owners and citizens expressing their beliefs through ordinary signs that they have turned into powerful reminders of what our country stands for.

The Second Amendment is Americans’ best hope for defending ourselves. Far too often, people simply ignore it or assume that the police will be there to protect them. It would be nice if more people would wake up to the truth that the only way to ensure your safety is to have a means to stop criminals from harming you.Hey Leftist

The average response time for police to an emergency call is between six and eight minutes. The average time to draw, aim and fire a gun is a few seconds. Which would you rather be relying on?

Used correctly, guns can save lives. It’s that simple. The Founders understood this and gave citizens the means to defend themselves — the Second Amendment.

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely LOVE this sign! I salute the U.S. cropped-george-washington-regarding-2nd-amandment.jpgMarine who posted this on his property. This Marine demonstrates more about the Constitution on this one sign than Obama ever has, as a president.

Why, do you think Obama is so into “gun control” and is willing to do whatever it takes to win the battle against guns? It’s about control of guns! Because our Dictator-in-Chief knows that if EVERY veteran stood up and fought against the government, We The People would win! Guns matter. People matter.

I am reminded of a quote from Thomas Jefferson who said:

“When government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.”Gun Control Supporters cropped

Our time is now! We The People must stand up, fight back and let our voices be heard! We are not going to take this any more! We are not going to take the lawlessness of President Obama. We are not going to sit back and watch as this president continues with his disrespect and destruction of the U.S. Constitution. A Constitution that has withstood the test of time, battles and deaths of many Americans who fought and died to defend it! trust

Our Constitution was written over 200 years ago by our Founding Fathers to support a free nation under God!

With a 1st Amendment that states:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.Criminals and Dictators

And a 2nd Amendment that states:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Maybe we should share this with Obama! Do you think if enough of us send it to him, he might get the point? And while we’re at it, let’s tell Obama, the only form of gun control we are in favor of is using both hands!

The Truth About Wages in Right-to-Work States

waving flagPosted by Natalie Johnson / / September 02, 2015

A new report by The Heritage Foundation shows that private sector wages are not reduced in right-to-work states. (Photo: James Fassinger/Reuters/Newscom)

Private sector wages are not reduced in right-to-work states as union advocates have argued, according to a new report released Tuesday by The Heritage Foundation. James Sherk, a research fellow in labor economics at The Heritage Foundation and the author of the study, cited an Economic Policy Institute paper that claimed right-to-work laws reduce wages by 3 percent.Partyof Deceit Spin and Lies

Sherk found the conclusions “fundamentally flawed” because the study only partially accounted for the cost of living differences across states. He said this is a problem because companies in states with higher costs of living pay their employees higher wages to account for steeper expenses.

Every state with compelled union membership and Virginia, a right-to-work state, has living costs above the national average, which is how EPI arrived to its finding that right-to-work states have lower wages. Once cost of living was accounted for in the Heritage study, Sherk said EPI’s results “disappeared” and right-to-work laws had no effect on private sector wages.

Sherk’s study did find government employees make about 5 percent less in right-to-work states, but he attributed this to government unions’ ability to affect wages by electing “political allies” who will give them “favorable contracts.”

“All of these arguments of right-to-work wages really evaporate when you look under the hood of all these studies,” Sherk said.

Though more than three-quarters of Americans believe union membership should be voluntary, 25 states still have compulsory unionization.

Vincent Vernuccio, the director of labor policy at the Mackinac Center, said at a panel hosted at The Heritage Foundation Tuesday that after Michigan passed a right-to-work law in December 2012 its unemployment rate dropped largely because company site selectors were no longer eliminating the state for its compelled union laws. He said in May 2013, Michigan added 6,000 manufacturing jobs while Illinois, a compelled union state, lost 2,000 that same month. “The right-to-work states are gaining these jobs the forced unionism states are losing,” Vernuccio argued.

Republican state Rep. Chris Kapenga of Wisconsin said he immediately saw positive impacts after his state passed a right-to-work law this past year. He said Wisconsin had the highest growth of manufacturing jobs out of any metro area in the U.S. over the past year and was ranked third in the nation by “Manpower” magazine for its “bright job outlook,” which he attributes in part to the state’s move toward a workers’ choice environment.

“Right-to-work is good for the state and I think it’s good for the nation as a whole because it gets back to the individual liberty and freedom of a person to choose if they want to associate or not,” Kapenga said.

The camps are spread throughout Islamic State-controlled areas of Iraq and Syria and are off limits in the U.S.-led international bombing campaign because of concerns about collateral damage, said officials familiar with planning and execution of the yearlong bombing campaign.

Additionally, the IS (also known as ISIS or ISIL) camps have been so successful that Islamic State leaders are considering expanding the camps to Libya and Yemen. Both states have become largely ungoverned areas in recent years.

The failure to target the training camps with U.S. and allied airstrikes is raising questions among some defense and intelligence officials about the commitment of President Obama and his senior aides to the current anti-IS strategy of degrading and ultimately destroying the terror group. “If we know the location of these camps, and the president wants to destroy ISIS, why are the camps still functioning?” one official critical of the policy asked.Obama Muslim collection

The camps are regarded by U.S. intelligence analysts as a key element in the terror group’s successes in holding and taking new territory. The main benefit of the training camps is that they are providing a continuous supply of new fighters.

IS training camps

An additional worry of intelligence analysts is that some of the foreign fighters being trained in the camps will eventually return to their home countries in Europe and North America to carry out terror attacks.culture of deceit and lies

A White House spokesman declined to comment on the failure to bomb the terror camps and referred questions to the Pentagon.

Pentagon spokesman Maj. Roger M. Cabiness declined to say why no training camps have been bombed. “I am not going to be able to go into detail about our targeting process,” he said.

Cabiness said the U.S.-led coalition has “hit ISIL [an alternative abbreviation for the Islamic State] with more than 6,000 airstrikes.”Really with logo

“The coalition has also taken out thousands of fighting positions, tanks, vehicles, bomb factories, and training camps,” he said. “We have also stuck their leadership, including most recently on Aug. 18 when a U.S. military airstrike removed Fadhil Ahmad al-Hayali, also known as Hajji Mutazz, the second in command of the terrorist group, from the battlefield.”Picture4

Efforts also are being taken to disrupt IS finances and “make it more difficult for the group to attract new foreign fighters,” Cabiness said in an email.

Air Force Col. Patrick Ryder, a spokesman for U.S. Central Command, said the coalition has conducted 19 airstrikes against training areas, the most recent on Aug. 5. The Central Command’s news release for that day, however, makes no reference to a training camp being struck in airstrikes. A July 30 release states that training areas were hit.

According to the Command’s website, a total of 6,419 airstrikes have been carried out over the past year, 3,991 in Iraq, and 2,428 Syria, indicating .3 percent of the airstrikes were carried out against training areas. “Whenever we identify ISIL moving, staging, operating or training in any number, target them and strike them,” Ryder said. “As a result, ISIL is not longer able to move freely or train openly for fear of being hit.”

As a result of the air campaign, ISIL has begun “hiding amongst civilian populations and employing terrorist weapons from entrenched, defensive hiding places,” Ryder said, adding, “regardless, the coalition can and will continue to identify, pursue and strike them relentlessly.”

According to the defense and intelligence officials, one reason the training camps have been off limits is that political leaders in the White House and Pentagon fear hitting them will cause collateral damage. Some of the camps are located near civilian facilities and there are concerns that casualties will inspire more jihadists to join the group.cause of death

However, military officials have argued that unless the training camps are knocked out, IS will continue to gain ground and recruit and train more fighters for its operations.

Disclosure that the IS training camps are effectively off limits to the bombing campaign comes as intelligence officials in the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and U.S. Central Command, which is in charge of the conflict, have alleged that senior U.S. officials skewed intelligence reports indicating the U.S. strategy against IS is not working or has been less effective than officials have claimed in public.you think

The Islamic State controls large parts of Syria and Iraq and has attracted tens of thousands of jihadists in both countries and from abroad. The exact number of fighters is not known but intelligence estimates have indicated the numbers have increased over the past year.

The military campaign, known as Operation Inherent Resolve, appears to be floundering despite a yearlong campaign of airstrikes and military training programs aimed to bolstering Iraqi military forces. A review of Central Command reports on airstrikes since last year reveals that few attacks were carried out against training camps. Targets instead included Islamic State vehicles, buildings, tactical units, arms caches, fighting positions, snipers, excavators, mortar and machine gun positions, bunkers, and bomb factories.Christian Persecution

The risk-averse nature of the airstrike campaign was highlighted last month by Brig. Gen. Thomas Weidley, chief of staff for what the military calls Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve. “The coalition continues to use air power responsibly,” Weidley said July 1. “Highly precise deliveries, detailed weaponeering, in-depth target development, collateral damage mitigation, and maximized effects on Daesh, are characteristics of coalition airstrike operation in Iraq and Syria.”

Daesh is another name for the Islamic State.

“The coalition targeting process minimizes collateral damage and maximizes precise effects on Daesh,” Weidley said earlier. “Air crews are making smart decisions and applying tactical patience every day.”What did you say 06.jpg

Other coalition spokesman have indicated that targeting has been limited to reaction strikes against operational groups of IS fighters. “When Daesh terrorists expose themselves and their equipment, we will strike them,” Col. Wayne Marotto said May 27.

The military website Long War Journal published a map showing 52 IS training camps and noted that some may no longer be operating because of the U.S.-led bombing campaign.

Bill Roggio, Long War Journal managing editor, said the Islamic State’s training camps are a direct threat to the region and U.S. national security. “While the vast majority of trainees have been used to fight in local insurgencies, which should be viewed as a threat. Historically jihadist groups have selected a small number of fighters going through their camps to conduct attacks against the West. The Islamic State is most certainly following this model,” he said.against America

According the map, among the locations in Iraq and Syria where IS is operating training camps are Mosul, Raqqah, Nenewa, Kobane, Aleppo, Fallujah, and Baiji.

The group MEMRI obtained a video of an IS training camp in Nenewa Province, Iraq, dated Oct. 1, 2014.

The video shows a desert outpost with tan tents and around 100 fighters who take part in hand-to-hand combat exercises, weapons training, and religious indoctrination. Aymenn Jawad Al-Tamimi, an analyst with the Middle East Forum, in June translated details of IS training purportedly obtained from a manual produced by a pro-IS operative in Mosul named Omar Fawaz. Among those involved in ideological training for IS jihadists in Iraq is Bahraini cleric Turki Binali, who wrote an unofficial biography of IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Al-Tamimi stated in a blog post June 24.

According to a document thought to be written by Fawaz, training differs for native Iraqis and Syrians as opposed to foreign fighters, who generally are less experienced militarily than the regional trainees. The document also reveals IS plans to export military manpower abroad, including Libya.

“Sessions for the muhajireen [foreign fighters] brothers last 90 days or more, and at the highest level deal with organization, determination, and intelligence operation, including training on heavy weaponry in addition to comprehensive Sharia sessions and multiple tests,” according to a translation of the document. “Sessions for the Ansar from the people of Iraq and al-Sham range between 30 to 50 days.”

The process begins with an application form and questionnaire regarding education, skills, viewpoints, and whether their backgrounds can be verified. The training then includes physical fitness, martial arts practice, weapons training, and ideological indoctrination. After a week of training, jihadists with special abilities are selected and placed in units. The units include special forces, air defense, sniper units, a “caliphate army,” an “army of adversity,” and administrative units for those capable of using electronic devices and accounting. “The rest are distributed in fronts and camps after the end of the military camp training according to where they are needed,” the report said, noting that all graduates are tested in Sharia at the conclusion of their training.

The New York Times reported Tuesday that the Pentagon inspector general is investigating allegations that military officials doctored intelligence reports in an attempt to present more optimistic accounts of the U.S. military’s efforts in the conflict. The probe was triggered by a DIA analyst who stated that Central Command officials were improperly rewriting intelligence assessments prepared for policy makers, including President Obama.

The Daily Beast reported Wednesday that senior military and intelligence officials inappropriately pressured U.S. terrorism analysts to alter estimates of the strength of the Islamic State to portray the group as weaker.Partyof Deceit Spin and Lies

Central Command, on its website, stated that in the year since the Iraq operation began on Aug. 7, 2014, a total of 6,419 air strikes were carried out. Targets damaged or destroyed include 119 tanks, 340 Humvees, 510 staging areas, 3,262 buildings, 2,577 fighting positions, 196 oil infrastructure targets, and 3,680 “other” targets not further identified.

Federal judge orders Kentucky clerk and her staff to court

MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — A county clerk who invoked “God’s authority” as she defied the U.S. Supreme Court yet again on gay marriage Tuesday refused to resign after a federal judge summoned her to explain why she should not held in contempt.

Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis turned away several gay and lesbian couples who sought marriage licenses — some for a fifth time — even though the Supreme Court turned away her last-ditch appeal the night before. “To issue a marriage license which conflicts with God’s definition of marriage, with my name affixed to the certificate, would violate my conscience. It is not a light issue for me. It is a Heaven or Hell decision,” she said through her lawyers. “I was elected by the people to serve as the County Clerk. I intend to continue to serve the people of Rowan County, but I cannot violate my conscience,” her statement said.Picture2

For David Moore and David Ermold, it was their third rejection at the courthouse. Davis, facing the couples and a packed crowd of reporters and activists, told them to leave. “We’re not leaving until we have a license,” Ermold responded. “Then you’re going to have a long day,” Davis replied.Kentucky county clerk refuses to issue same-sex marriage …

Davis then retreated into her inner office, where closed blinds sheltered her from the cameras and rival demonstrations outside.

“Praise the Lord!” her supporters shouted. “Stand your ground!”

Other activists yelled “Do your job!” They called Davis a bigot and said the government is not a theocracy. The sheriff moved everyone to the courthouse lawn, where each side tried to out-do the other with chanting, hymn-singing and sign-waving.Big Gay Hate Machine

Davis stopped issuing all marriage licenses in June after the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage across the nation.Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis listens to a customer …

Four couples — two gay, two straight — then sued to force her to fulfill her duties as an elected official despite her personal religious faith, or step aside. Other couples also sued. A federal order to issue the licenses was upheld in appellate court. Her lawyers with Liberty Counsel then asked the Supreme Court for what they called “asylum for her conscience.”

After the full court declined to intervene Monday night, removing any remaining legal ground for Davis’ position, the couples decided to try again, only to be turned away. For James Yates and Will Smith Jr., it was their fifth rejection. “It’s just too hard right now,” Yates said, choking back tears and holding hands with Smith as they rushed to their car.Picture3

Despite the delays, the couples’ lawyers asked the judge to punish her with fines, not jail.

Davis served as her mother’s deputy for 27 years before she was elected as a Democrat to succeed her in November. Davis’ own son is on the staff. As an elected official, Davis can’t be fired from her $80,000-a-year job. Impeachment would have to wait until the Legislature’s regular session next year, or a costly special session.

Davis refused to concede her religious freedom argument even after U.S. District Judge David Bunning ordered Davis and her six deputy clerks to appear at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the federal court in Ashland. Davis has said previously that four of her deputies share her beliefs, one was ambiguous and one did not have a problem with issuing licenses to same-sex couples.

Outside, activists lined up on either side of the courthouse entrance.

“At the end of the day, we have to stand before God, which has higher authority than the Supreme Court,” said Randy Smith, leading the group supporting Davis.

Ermold and Moore, together for 17 years, cried and swayed as they walked out to chants from the clerk’s supporters. “I feel sad, I feel devastated,” Ermold said. “I feel like I’ve been humiliated on such a national level, I can’t even comprehend it.”Picture5

The clerk’s husband, Joe Davis, came by to check on his wife. He said she has received death threats but remains committed to her faith and is “standing for God.” As for himself, he said he believes in the Second Amendment: “I’m an old redneck hillbilly, that’s all I’ve got to say. Don’t come knocking on my door.” He pointed to the gay rights protesters gathered on the courthouse lawn and said: “They want us to accept their beliefs and their ways. But they won’t accept our beliefs and our ways.”Gaystopo logo

MORE MOUNTING EVIDENCE THAT LIBERALISM IS A MENTAL DISORDER: ‘Anti-gun stupidity’: Honolulu destroys $575G worth of police firearms

Second Amendment advocates are firing away at a decision by Honolulu officials to destroy $575,000 worth of perfectly good handguns in a move one critic called the “height of anti-gun stupidity.” Some 2,300 Smith & Wesson 9 mm handguns, including at least 200 that are brand-new and in unopened boxes, were issued to the city’s police department. But with the 2,200-member force upgrading to lighter and less expensive Glock 17s, the guns were set to be permanently holstered. While it is customary throughout the country for departments to auction the guns to law-abiding citizens, including the police who once carried them, or donate them to another department, Honolulu opted to destroy them.Keys taken

“Mayor Kirk Caldwell and the Honolulu Police Department agreed that they would not allow the guns to be sold to the general public and end up on the streets of Honolulu,” Honolulu Police spokeswoman Michelle Yu told FoxNews.com. “The same goes for selling the individual gun parts that could have been used to assemble a gun.”

“These guns in the hands of lawful civilians could provide an important means of self-defense, especially for low income people who can’t afford them.”

– Alan Gottlieb, Second Amendment Foundation.

Selling the guns, with mandatory background checks to ensure they were only purchased by legal owners, could have netted the city $575,000, according to Hawaii News Now. Several police officers reportedly were interested in buying old service weapons for personal use, and the department has previously sold phased-out weapons to its staff, but this time opted to melt them down two weeks ago. Yu said no other police departments were interested in the guns.

“Law enforcement in American Samoa initially expressed interest in acquiring some of the guns, but there was a change in administration and the new administration is no longer interested,” she said. “The local sheriff’s department recently replaced their guns, and other county police departments (Kauai, Maui and Hawaii) are looking to replace their Smith & Wessons in the future.”Partyof Deceit Spin and Lies

A representative for Smith & Wesson declined to comment, stating that the company does not provide any information regarding their customers in law enforcement.

Despite Yu’s claims, the Hawaii state sheriffs division – which uses the same gun manufacturer – told Hawaii News Now that no offer for donation was made to them.

Hawaii’s Department of Public of Safety recently replaced its Smith & Wesson firearms with different SIG Sauer models and received a credit of more than $150,000 for trading in its old guns. But Yu no trade-in discount was available and insisted “the only remaining option was to destroy the guns so they don’t end up on the street.”

Destroying working firearms, as well as valuable taxpayer property, was “the height of anti-gun stupidity and will not stop one criminal from getting a weapon,” said Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation. “These guns in the hands of lawful civilians could provide an important means of self-defense, especially for low income people who can’t afford them,” Gottlieb said. “Or the sale of them could help pay for much needed law enforcement equipment to help keep the public safe.”

Any city the size of Honolulu could use $575,000, said Amy Hunter, spokeswoman for the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action. “There is no reason why these firearms couldn’t be used by law enforcement or sold to law-abiding citizens, the proceeds of which could go to much-needed infrastructure, programs, training, etc,” she said.

The Hawaii Rifle Association’s President Harvey Gerwig, together with safety training non-profit Lessons in Firearms Education President Bill Richter wrote directly to Caldwell over the issue, emphasizing that “in these times of lean budgets and continual cost cutting to needed city services, to throw away a half a million dollars seems senseless.”you think

“The reason your office and HPD gave for not selling to the public seemed to be a slight on those legal gun owners who would have purchased them and who supported you during your election,” the letter continued. “You should be ashamed for suggesting that the good citizens of Hawaii cannot be trusted with buying HPD’s surplus guns for fear of them falling into criminal hands when record numbers of firearms have been bought by those same citizens for the last ten years without any such problems.”

Over the last 15 years, the number of guns registered in Hawaii increased dramatically. Data released by the Hawaii Attorney General’s Office shows that 420,409 firearms were registered from 2000 to 2014, in addition to the already existing one million firearms in a state that has an estimated population of 1.4 million.

Hawaii has one of the lowest gun death rates in the nation, which some attribute to its spike in ownership per capita, while others claim it is a result of its strict gun control laws.

Caldwell’s office declined to elaborate on Yu’s comments. The Hawaii Police Officers Union, did not respond to requests for comment.

But while the destruction of the guns generated criticism from the gun rights community, others have welcomed it. “It beats putting those (guns) back on the streets,” said Ladd Everitt, spokesman for the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. “There are so many loopholes in federal law that dangerous people often get guns legally in this country. There’s a reason that Hawaii has the lowest gun death rate in the country,” he added. “They’d rather see guns destroyed than families.”
