It’s been more than two months since US Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi was arrested and thrown into a Mexican prison for accidentally crossing the border with three registered firearms in his truck. Since Sgt. Tahmooressi’s arrest, the Obama White House has been relatively silent. Now a White House petition has garnered over 100,000 signature, which is enough to force the White House to respond.

Tahmooressi, who suffers from post traumatic stress disorder, said the treatment from the Mexican prison guards has worsened sense his failed escape. He says the guards stripped him, chained him to a bed, and beat him so many times in the face that he felt his jaw fall out of place.
A State Department official said they have raised concerns with Mexican authorities about his treatment.
“We’ve been very engaged,” said department spokeswoman Jen Psaki, according to Fox News. “We’ll continue to press the case.”
Psaki also said Secretary of State John Kerry has been involved in the situation.

Daily Surge reported last week that instead of making an official statement or visit demanding Tahmooressi’s release, John Kerry spent Memorial Day weekend vacationing in Nantucket, a ritzy destination spot off of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
It’s a shame that an online petition has to force an official response out of Obama and Jay Carney.
I mean, it’s Mexico for crying out loud. No wonder America is losing respect around the world.
One would imagine that after months of being mired in one military scandal after another, from Benghazi to Bergdahl to the VA, that Obama would be out there fighting to have Sgt. Tahmooressi released.
But you would also have to imagine Obama as a competent leader.
