In the Age of Obama, following the law can be a liability. It’s not just because the content of that law changes everyday thanks to burdensome bureaucratic regulations and illegal executive orders. It’s also because the Obama Administration continues to insist on targeting normal, law-abiding individuals for their political beliefs, ideologies, and even occupations. Just ask gun store owner Mike Schuetz, one of the victims of Operation Choke Point.
From Fox News:
Operation Choke Point is a secretive Obama administration program that was originally intended to help prevent fraud by eliminating access to banks for certain businesses. But now it appears that the program – overseen by the Justice Department, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and other agencies – has been expanded and is being used to target legal businesses that Obama administration officials are opposed to.
Gun store owner Mike Schuetz says the federal government forced his bank to close his recently opened account, all because he’s a legal gun dealer.
Luckily, Schuetz operates a private investigation company and he was able to put his investigatory skills to use and capture chilling audio that reveals why his business was targeted.
Schuetz, who opened Hawkins Guns LLC in Hawkins, Wisconsin, in November 2014, explained to Kimberly Guilfoyle on “Fox and Friends” that he recorded a conversation with Heritage Credit Union, in which the branch manager says that they closed his account because they do not service businesses that deal in guns and ammunition.
“It’s a sad day in America when this can happen to you,” Schuetz told Guilfoyle. “I didn’t realize how big of an issue it was until I started investigating what had happened to me.”
Schuetz posted the following message on his Facebook page when he learned that his account had been closed because he was a gun dealer:
Sorry I had to close this afternoon shortly. You will never guess why? I received a call from Heritage Credit Union in Hawkins, where I set up my business account for Hawkins Guns. They told me I had to close the account because they do not service companies that deal in guns. This is just a back door way for those wanting to infringe upon your rights to keep and bear arms and is nothing more than discrimination to gun owners.
I have closed the account and am going to a more freedom loving bank to give my business. This will delay my ability to accept credit cards, but in time all will be straightened out. I would highly suggest questioning who you are allowing to house your hard earned money. If you choose to close an account there let them know why!
But Schuetz did more than just advertise on social media. He fought back against the illegal targeting of his business with some old-fashioned investigative reporting. The evidence he gathered is simply staggering.
You can check it all out here.
The inventory includes several audio-recorded conversations, including ones where bank representatives reveal that they were simply responding to federal demands to close his account. More than a dozen bank examiners forced the bank to comply and close Schuetz’s account for his perfectly legal gun business.

Finally, recall Publius’ words from Federalist 62:
The internal effects of a mutable policy are still more calamitous. It poisons the blessing of liberty itself. It will be of little avail to the people, that the laws are made by men of their own choice, if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood; if they be repealed or revised before they are promulgated, or undergo such incessant changes that no man, who knows what the law is to-day, can guess what it will be to-morrow. Law is defined to be a rule of action; but how can that be a rule, which is little known, and less fixed?
What do you think of this blatant attack on the Second Amendment by the Obama Administration? And what does it mean for the future of the rule of law in America?
