As tens-of-thousands of illegal immigrants pour into the United States in violation of our nation’s laws, we have received precious little cooperation from the Mexican government (and our own) to curb the massive influx.

Now, to help with this problem, Texas Governor Rick Perry has ordered National Guard troops to the border. In an outrageous display of audacity, the Mexican government is now complaining about the troops being placed on the U.S. side of the border.

In response to Texas’ plan, in a statement, Mexico’s Foreign Relations Secretariat said,
“Attention to the immigration phenomenon must be paid from a long-term regional perspective and based on the principles of good neighborliness and shared responsibility…The strategy for responding in an effective and humane manner to this phenomenon includes the necessary shared responsibility among the countries of origin, transit and destination of migration flows.” complain 2
Governor Perry has declared that he is prepared to act without the federal government’s cooperation on trying to strengthen Texas’ border security, claiming that he would put up to 1,000 Texas National Guard members on the border to help stop illegal immigration.

The move has been met with praise for those wishing to stop the invasion by illegals; however, the Obama Administration has repeatedly declared that border security is the job of the federal government. However, in the absence of any meaningful actions on the part of this administration to secure the border, it seems Gov. Perry’s solution might be the best way for Texas to defend itself.

President Obama has asked for $3.7 billion to better handle the border crisis; however, with the president having repeatedly made clear that amnesty, not border security, is his main priority vis-à-vis immigration reform, the $3.7 billion request has been denied by Republicans who note that they cannot trust this president to actually secure the border and enforce this nation’s laws.

Pro-illegal immigration activists continued to claim that the surges of illegal immigrants are mainly children. However, reports continue to emerge that that is really not the case.

Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst sought to debunk this media-created myth and revealed in an interview this week that unaccompanied children only account for 10-12% of the illegals and that a whopping 80-85% have criminal records in their home countries.
