A bridge in Pittsburgh collapsed Friday morning hours before President Joe Biden is set to visit the city to give remarks about infrastructure. Pittsburgh Public Safety confirmed the bridge collapse, tweeting a photo of the snow-covered structure and warning residents of “a strong smell of natural gas in the area.”

The president heads to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Friday to visit Carnegie Mellon University’s Mill 19, a research and development hub incorporated into the bipartisan infrastructure plan passed in 2021.

Biden will then give remarks “on strengthening the nation’s supply chains, revitalizing American manufacturing, creating good-paying, union jobs, and building a better America, including through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law” at Mill 19, according to the White House schedule.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki tweeted that Biden was made aware of the bridge collapse. “Our team is in touch with state and local officials on the ground as they continue to gather information about the cause of the collapse,” she said.

“@Potus is grateful to the first responders who rushed to assist the drivers who were on the bridge at the time. The President will proceed with trip planned for today and will stay in touch with officials on the ground about additional assistance we can provide,” Psaki added.

Pennsylvania has 3,353 bridges in poor condition, the second-highest in the country, according to ABC News. Pittsburgh Public Safety added in a tweet that there will be a news conference about the bridge’s collapse.

‘Antifa kid’ who smashed a police car and incited riots in Pittsburgh is escorted into custody — by his mom and dad

Brian Bartels, the 20-year-old man who police say turned a protest into a riot on Saturday in Pittsburgh, turned himself in to law enforcement Monday — escorted by his mom and dad. He faces charges of institutional vandalism, rioting, and reckless endangerment of another person, according to police.

Law enforcement had been investigating the destruction of a police SUV over the weekend that had been spray-painted and then set on fire during the demonstrations. After receiving an anonymous tip from a co-worker identifying Bartels as the culprit, police executed a search warrant at his home. During the search they found two guns, six spray paint cans, gloves, and the sweatshirt that the suspect had been wearing during the protest, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

A video had also surfaced showing a young white male smashing the police SUV’s windows and tagging it with spray paint. In the video, the suspect, believed to be Bartels, can be seen dressed in all-black Antifa-like gear. A woman attempted to stop Bartels from causing damage to the SUV, but Bartels flipped her off in refusal and continued to smash that SUV’s windows.

In the tweet of Bartels turning himself into police custody, Jason Howerton refers to him as an “Antifa kid” because his dress and actions were characteristic of the group’s members. But an official link between Bartels and Antifa has not been established.

Pittsburgh Public Safety reported Sunday that 60 businesses and other properties were damaged and 44 arrests were made as a result of Saturday’s protests. Police believe that Bartels’ actions, which took place at around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, turned the protests into a violent riot.

During a news conference, Pittsburgh Police Chief Scott Schubert called it a “damn shame” that Antifa-like rioters were taking advantage of the protests.

“I am so angry at the fact that some segment hijacked this and then took some of the youth and brought them into the mix,” Schubert said. “There’s no doubt that that’s who’s doing it and a lot of things we’re seeing are white males, dressed in the anarchist, ANTIFA, they’re ones who are fueling a lot of this. It’s just a damn shame that they took advantage of the situation, for something, something happened in another state where somebody died who shouldn’t have died, and they hijacked that message for their own.”

Tree of Life Rabbi Says He Was ‘Surprised’ by President Trump’s Behavior During Pittsburgh Visit

Reported By Nick Givas | November 1, 2018 at 6:21am

Tree of Life Synagogue Rabbi Jeffrey Meyers said Thursday on CNN’s “New Day” that he was “pleasantly surprised” by President Donald Trump’s warmth and compassion during his visit to Pittsburgh.

“I was privileged to have a private 15 or 20 minutes with the (Trump) family. The president was very warm, very consoling,” Meyers said.

“He put his hand on my shoulder and the first question he asked me was, ‘Rabbi, tell me how are you doing?’ And I must say throughout the time we spent together I was pleasantly surprised by a warm and personal side to the president that I don’t think America has ever seen,” he added.

Meyers said he told the president about his ordeal and said they discussed the issue of hate speech, along with other personal matters.

“I told my personal story of my experience, which they found quite shocking and upsetting,” he said.

“We talked. I shared the same message that I shared with you throughout the course of the week — that hate speech has no place in our society, that hate speech leads to actions of hate. Hate speech led to the death of seven of my congregants and 11 total in my building.

“And we shared other personal conversation that I’d respectfully like to keep personal.”

Meyers said it was important to walk the president through the memorial so he could know who was taken and fully understand how devastating the shooting was on the community.

“I have been through this a few times. I don’t know how people would react to see that horror. It’s seared in my brain and it’s a sight I’ll never forget the rest of my life,” Meyers said.

“After we lit the 11 memorial candles, I chanted … the memorial prayer in Hebrew and in English. The president then asked me if I would escort he and the first lady to the makeshift memorial … and I gave him a bit of a background story about each person because it was a human being who lived, who was a good, decent person and the president needed to know something about these people because they, too, were his citizens.”

Images of Dems Adoring Farrakhan: Jew-Hater with Same Rhetoric as Synagogue Shooter

Reported By Cillian Zeal | October 29, 2018 at 1:43pm

Louis Farrakhan is one of America’s most irredeemable anti-Semites. He’s also inexplicably beloved by scads of liberals. Sure, you probably won’t see too many of them putting up group photos with him after this weekend’s anti-Semitic hate crime in Pittsburgh. However, when the eyes of the world aren’t on our liberal politicians, they’re more than happy to fraternize with the Nation of Islam leader. They may try to pass him off as a “civil rights icon” or some such mess, all while wallpapering over his multifarious hatreds.

That’s why it’s probably good to begin with a refresher on what Farrakhan has said about Jewish people in the past:

“Don’t you forget, when it’s God who puts you in the ovens, it’s forever!” — Farrakhan in 1985, according to The Weekly Standard, talking about what will happen to Jewish people in the afterlife.

“I believe that for the small numbers of Jewish people in the United States, they exercise a tremendous amount of influence on the affairs of government …Yes, they exercise extraordinary control, and black people will never be free in this country until they are free of that kind of control.” — Farrakhan during a 1997 appearance on “Meet the Press.”

“I don’t own Hollywood. Who depicted Black people? Who writes the books? Who writes the plays, the songs that make us look less than human? Do you mean to tell me that Jews have never done any evil to Black people?…Were they not involved in the slave trade? Yes, they were…and to the extent that they were involved, somebody has to bring them to account. And I believe that has fallen on me.” — Farrakhan on the Jewish people in 1994.

“The Jews have been so bad at politics they lost half their population in the Holocaust. They thought they could trust in Hitler, and they helped him get the Third Reich on the road.” — Farrakhan during a Savior’s Day speech in 1998.

“The Jews don’t like Farrakhan, so they call me Hitler. Well, that’s a good name. Hitler was a very great man.” — Farrakhan on the Nazis, 1984.

This is obviously a sick man with a long and storied history of straight-up anti-Semitism; there aren’t any dog whistles here. This is basically a black David Duke with a savior complex.

So why, then, do the Democrats feel the need to show this man any fealty?

We can look, first, at the highest-profile Democrat to have met with Farrakhan: None other than former President Barack Obama, from his days as a U.S. senator.

Keep in mind that this picture was kept secret for years; while it took place three years before Obama ran for president, it only came to light two years after he left office. And when it was released, nobody in the media seemed to particularly care. (Here’s where one would normally insert that emoji of the smiley-face rubbing its chin and thinking.)

Of course, other media darlings have also been quite close with the Nation of Islam leader. Here’s California Democratic Rep. Maxine Water giving a hug to Farrakhan shortly after Hurricane Katrina, also in 2005.

Neither of these Democrats can actually be accused of being in the Nation of Islam, however.

The same can’t be said for Rep. Keith Ellison. While the Minnesota Democrat is probably better known these days for allegations that he abused two former partners, Ellison was once a member of the religious sect but says he’s disavowed its belief systems. The important word there is says: “Despite that professed distance from Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam, Rep. Ellison attended a 2013 event given by Iran’s president Rouhani that included Farrakhan, and Farrakhan himself has spoken of a 2015 visit by Reps. Ellison and Andre Carson to Farrakhan’s Washington, D.C., hotel suite,” The Weekly Standard reported earlier this year.

“Now a series of photographs reveals a recent visit by Ellison to the Chicago headquarters of the Coalition for the Remembrance of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad (CROE), an organization formed in 1987 to honor and promote the teaching of Elijah Muhammad, former leader of the Nation of Islam and mentor to Louis Farrakhan. Although the exact date of the photographs is not clear, other factors suggest sometime between 2014 and 2016.”

Nor is this liberal worship of Farrakhan a recent thing. Witness this 1993 town hall meeting titled “Race in America” hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus. Farrakhan appears with several congressmen — all Democrats — during the symposium.

If we’re going to talk about legislators in Washington fomenting hate, we need to start with the most egregious examples. Farrakhan is a reprehensible bigot, a man who should be disowned by every American, particularly after the events of this past weekend. This is a man whose rhetoric is the same as the Pittsburgh killer’s. This is a man who has incited hatred for decades.

He’s seen as a civil rights icon, yet there’s arguably no other individual who has done as much to attack the civil rights of Jewish people as Farrakhan has. That he hasn’t been disowned yet — and will likely continue to be adored — should tell you all you need to know about the hypocrisy of the Democrats.

Parents Deploy Their Own Brand of Justice After ‘Mean Girls’ Falsely Accuse Their Son of Sexual Assault

Reported By Lisa Payne-Naeger | October 7, 2018 at

11:29am

There is a reason so many American families supported Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court, despite the left’s best attempts to derail it. Liberals didn’t take into account two things when they orchestrated a campaign to falsely accuse the judicial nominee of sexual assault.

The first is that there would be a majority of Americans across the country who care deeply about the justice of presumed innocence over presumed guilt; the other is that not all women who make accusations of sexual assault are telling the truth.

For those of us who are parents of daughters, our concerns are for their safety and protection, of course.

For those of us who are parents of sons, our concerns are for their safety and protection, of course.

The latter is the focus of another drama that is playing out in Zelienople, Pennsylvania, about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh. And it might also be the outcome all parents of sons feared would escalate if Democrats succeeded in undoing the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh.

According to WPXI News in Pittsburgh, Michael J. and Alecia Flood, the parents of a high school-aged boy identified only as T.F., filed a civil lawsuit on Monday in U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh against the Seneca Valley School District in Butler County, District Attorney Richard Goldinger, and the parents of five teenage “mean girls” who falsely accused the boy of sexual assault.

The suit alleges “that school officials and Goldinger’s office didn’t take any action against the girls even after learning their accusations were false,” according to WPXI.

The parents who filed the suit say the “mean girls” conspired to falsely accuse their son of sexual assault, which resulted in several unfair consequences.

The girls “conspired in person and via electronic communication devices to falsely accuse T.F. of sexual assault on two occasions,” WXPI reported.

T.F. was reportedly fired from his job at the Zelienople Community Pool where he was employed at the time of the allegations and “forced to endure multiple court appearances, detention in a juvenile facility, detention at home, loss of his liberty, and other damages until several of the girls reluctantly admitted that their accusations were false.”

“The suit also alleges that the boy was subjected to months of bullying from other kids at school,” according to Breitbart.

The Harrisburg Patriot-News reported one example of bullying listed in the suit the boy suffered: “The lawsuit said students last year placed masking tape with the word ‘PREDATOR’ written on it on his back without his knowledge during choir practice.”

In the original 27-page complaint filed against T.F., the teen girls accused him of two different instances of sexual assault — one at the Zelienople Community Pool and another at a private home.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette quoted the Floods’ attorney Craig Fishman on Thursday as saying, “The system right now is biased against men.”

As a father of two adult daughters, according to the newspaper, Fishman said he supported the advancement of the #MeToo movement, but said in this case, things had gone too far.

“They discriminated against the boy based solely on his gender,” Fishman told the Post-Gazette.

And isn’t that what is going through the minds of many parents of boys?

If they could take down a highly qualified Supreme Court nominee with mere accusations that had no basis in physical evidence or fact, it would certainly be a cake walk to ruin lives with false accusations against boys, men across the country. What a frightening possibility.

The left went too far in believing it could rally in the court of public opinion the advancement of an agenda that collapses the constitutional principles and the presumption of innocence.

Let’s hope justice prevails in Pennsylvania.
