This Trigger Warning needs its own Trigger Warning

Trigger Warning

We’ve written quite a bit about Trigger Warnings since before it became fashionable:

The fragile college student mind is getting more fragile by the day.

As if the normal run of political correctness were not enough, we now have “Trigger Warnings” — the notion that students need to be warned that the material they are about to read in class may “trigger” emotional upset….

Of course, how the trigger is defined says much about the theory behind the movement — it almost always serves left-wing critical race and gender theories ….

The Trigger Warning movement is all about enforcing a conformity of thought by forcing faculty and others to identify and warn about politically incorrect ideas.more evidence

The Trigger Warning in the Featured Image was displayed at Oberlin when Christina Hoff Sommers spoke:

UT-Arlington Philosophy Prof. Keith Burgess-Jackson has come up with a Trigger Warning for his Philosophy of Religion class.

He writes:

I’ve decided to include a trigger warning in each course syllabus, beginning this fall. Here is the trigger warning for my upcoming Philosophy of Religion course. What do you think?

What do I think?

I think the precious, fragile souls demanding Trigger Warnings will demand that you put a Trigger Warning on this Trigger Warning.

Here we go:

Philosophy of religion is not for the faint-hearted, the close-minded, the thinskinned, the timid, the hypersensitive, the squeamish, the unintellectual (or antiintellectual), the developmentally arrested, the childish, or the easily offended. If you are traumatized (or even dismayed) by the idea of a punitive (retributive) god, or by the use of masculine pronouns (such as “He,” “Him,” or “His”) to refer to God, or by the mere possibility that God is male (rather than female, androgynous, or asexual), then this course is not for you. If you believe in God but are unwilling to entertain the possibility that your belief is false, then this course is not for you, since we will be examining (and taking seriously) arguments against the existence of God. If you disbelieve in God but are unwilling to entertain the possibility that your belief is false, then this course is not for you, since we will be examining (and taking seriously) arguments for the existence of God. If you are an adherent of a particular religion and believe it to be blasphemous, sinful, heretical, or immoral to think about, discuss, or take seriously other religions, then this course is not for you. If you believe that argumentation in particular or philosophy in general is coercive, masculine, belligerent, or militaristic, then this course is not for you. If you believe that morality is oppressive, sexist, or nothing more than a prop for capitalism or some other economic system, or that the making of moral judgments is “judgmental” (in the sense of being overly or gratuitously critical), then this course is not for you, for we will be examining (and taking seriously) an argument (the so-called Moral Argument) to the effect that the existence of morality (or the fact that we make moral judgments, or the fact that moral judgments or values are objective) supports, implies, or presupposesthe existence of God. If you are distressed or discomfited by the concept of evil, or by the possibility that there is evil in the world, or by the possibility that some people (or their actions) are evil, then this is not the course for you, because we will be asking whether (and, if so, how) the existence of evil (natural or moral) renders the existence of God either impossible or improbable. In short, this course, like any other philosophy course, is for thick-skinned, mature, open-minded, intellectually curious people.

BREAKING: Supporter of UC Irvine Anti-American Flag Resolution Backs Anti-White Group

Surprise: At least one of the students backing the banning of the American flag at UC Irvine wants all whitey’s out of California – and the rest of the South West. If this is true – they’re not getting much of an education. Gotnews.com reports that one of the college kids who supported the UC Irvine anti-American flag resolution is an activist for the anti-white group, The Movimiento Estudiantil Chican@ de Aztlan (MEChA) de UCI.

Natividad “Naty” Rico backed the anti-American flag resolution as a member of the student government. She was recently elected to be an At Large Representative for ASUCI’s Legislative Council, according to a Tumblr post she wrote. MEChaA is an Aztlan, anti-Semite movement which advocates the secession of all of the Southwest.

From the M.E.Ch.A. website:

Adamant rejection of the label “Mexican-American” meant rejection of the assimilation and accommodationist melting pot ideology that had guided earlier generations of activists. Chicanismo involves a crucial distinction in a political consciousness between a Mexican-American (Hispanic) and a Chicana/o mentality. El Plan de Santa Barbara speaks to such issues of identity politics by asserting:

“The Mexican-American (Hispanic) is a person who lacks respect for his/her cultural and ethnic heritage. Unsure of her/himself, she/he seeks assimilation as a way out of her/his “degraded” social status.

M.E.Ch.A. also endorses boycott, divestment and sanctions on Israel.

Garbage in / garbage out–

Many supporters of the anti-American flag resolution at the University of California-Irvine said their illegal immigrant constituents demanded Old Glory be removed from the common area.

Khaalidah Sidney, humanities representative and co-author of the legislation, said that the flag served as a reminder for her DREAMer friends of their constant battle of obtaining citizenship.

A “viable threat of violence” related to a plan to ban flags including the U.S. one in a student government building on the UC Irvine campus prompted the university to cancel a meeting Tuesday. Chip Yost reports for the KTLA 5 News at 6 on Tuesday, March 10, 2015.

Planet Fitness Kicks Out Man From Gym Twice for Wearing “Offensive” Pro-Life T-Shirt

by Steven Ertelt | Orlando, FL | LifeNews.com | 11/18/14

cause of deathA pro-life man in Florida says he was kicked out of a Planet Fitness gym not once but twice simply for wearing a pro-life t-shirt. Mike Amoroso says he has a collection of pro-life t-shirts but officials with Planet Fitness told him they were “offensive.”

When someone complained about the shirt, he was told to change his shirt or leave the Planet fitness gym. He came back the next day with a new pro-life shirt and was told again to leave.

Here’s more:

planetfitness“She told me, ‘I am very sorry. We have someone who is not happy with your shirt. Someone is offended by your shirt,’” Amoroso said. “I said, ‘You know, I wear them all the time.’ She said, ‘You’ll have to leave,’ and I left.”

Amoroso believed the issue wasn’t what his shirt said but how the message was delivered. So the following day, he wore a “softer” anti-abortion shirt, which was also deemed too offensive.

“Do you understand why people are offended?” asked reporter Shannon Butler.

“Yes. Yes, I do,” Amoroso said.

But for Amoroso, it’s about freedom of speech. He said he has nothing against women who chose abortion, Third of our generationbut one day would like to see an end to abortions. He added that he’s upset the shirts offended someone but said at least it’s starting a conversation about the topic.

“This doesn’t deter you even though people are offended from wearing these?” Butler asked.

“No, I might wear them more,” Amoroso said.

Planet Fitness is disclaiming any responsibility — saying its gyms are independently owned and operated.

“At Planet Fitness, we are committed to providing a comfortable and welcoming environment for everyone. The majority of Planet Fitness clubs, including this location in Orange City, FL, are owned and operated by individual franchisees. The dress code policy is enforced at the discretion of club staff and the local franchisee,” the company said in a statement.

Bryan Kemper, a pro-life activist with Stand True who is known for his extensive collection of pro-life t-shirts, Eagle Eggstalked with Amoroso.

“I just got off the phone with Michael Amarosa, a 68 year-old man from Deltona, Florida who was recently kicked out of the local Planet Fitness for wearing a pro-life t-shirt to work out in,” he said. “Michael has been going to Planet Fitness for three years and about two weeks ago was approached by one of the staff as he was working out. The staff member informed him that his shirt was offensive to someone and asked if he would be willing to change into a shirt she had in her hand. Michael said no and asked what would happen if he did not change his shirt. He was asked to leave.”

“Now before I go on, lets look at the slogan for Planet Fitness: “Welcome to Planet Fitness. Home of the Judgement Free Zone®”. That’s right, Planet Fitness wants people to think they are a “judgement free zone” while casting judgement on Michael for a pro-life t-shirt,” Kemper continued. “Michael’s shirt read, “abortion kills a person” and he thought that if he wore a less abrasive shirt that maybe they would not cast judgement on him. He was wrong. Michael came back the next day wearing a shirt that read, “pray to end abortion” and he was approached again and asked to leave.”

“Michael told me how he was inspired by Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life who encourages people to be open with their pro-life beliefs. He wants to educate the public about abortion and thats why he wears his pro-life t-shirts. Michael is not yelling at people or trying to start debates in the gym, he simply works out and practices free speech with a t-shirt,” Kemper added. “I encouraged Michael and thanked him for his courage and told him that Stand True will be sending him a bunch of free pro-life t-shirts from our store at http://www.prolifeworld.com.”

“I am in the process of contacting pro-life lawyers for Michael to help him fight Planet Fitness and get his rights back. In the mean time I need you help us fight for Michael,” he concluded.

This Patriotic American Has an Awesome Message for Those Offended by Our Flag…

Complete Message

ZFlag2Here’s the deal: if you live in the United States, you must be proud to announce your allegiance to this nation. Period. It doesn’t mean one must I LOVE AMERICAagree with everything that goes on within our country. In fact, it doesn’t even mean that one should be happy with the direction in which a country is heading. Lord knows that this country needs a lot of work to turn things around.

However, national pride is important. Americans should be proud of being American; Canadians should be proud of being Canadian; the British should be proud of being British.
Increasingly, patriots are being harassed or punished for their willingness to proudly hail their nation. In June, a man was forbidden by his residence complex in Houston from displaying the American flag because it constitutes a “threat to Muslims.”
Reporters who inquired about the unbelievable story were escorted off the premises by an officer, but the residence issued a statement, saying,
“While the Lodge on El Dorado admires our resident’s patriotism, we must enforce our property rules and guidelines. Such guidelines maintain the aesthetics of our apartment community and provide for the safety of all residents. The apartment community already proudly displays our country’s flag in a safe and appropriate manner at the entrances to our community.”
A month later, news broke of a Florida veteran who was being threatened with foreclosure on his home by a Home Owners Association who Pray for America 08demanded a fine of $8,000. The man’s infraction? He put a small flag in his planter outside his window.
Days later, another story broke about another outrage in Florida where a man’s lease was being refused by the apartment complex in which he lived because he hung an American flag inside his apartment.
Recently, conservatives have highlighted the outrage in Texas where a principal was ousted from her job because she had the audacity to request that students speak English in the classroom.
These absurdities have gone on for too long and it is time to highlight these unacceptable bully tactics by shining a light on what America is becoming.
A picture was posted on Youngcons.com where a patriotic American sets the record straight and lets people know that pride in America is an absolute must if one wants to take advantage of the freedoms this country offers.
His message is simple: If this flag offends you, I’ll help you pack.

Student forced to apologize for emailing pic of Obama kicking a door, because RACISM

Obama-kicks-a-doorA student at McGill University in Montreal, Canada was forced to issue a formal apology for emailing a picture of President Obama kicking open a door–all because some students thought the image was somehow racist.

The image was actually an edited .gif, and was shown by Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show” last fall. It humorously suggests that the president may be fed up with press conferences. McGill student Brian Farnan, vice president of the university’s student government, sent out an email with the .gif and the harmless caption, “Honestly midterms get out of here,” according to Legal Insurrection.

What happened next is almost unbelievable: Another student issued a formal complaint against Farnan for committing a “micro-aggression.” For those not up-to-date on the PC lexicon, “micro-aggression” is the latest phrase of choice for leftist radicals seeking to blame racism for common annoyances suffered by people of all races. Minority activists at the University of Michigan, for example, have insisted that trivial slights, such as “Having your opinion second-guessed in a group assignment,” are micro-aggressions that betray the campus as a hostile place for students of color. (RELATED: UMich means demands of black students who threatened ‘physical action’)

The .gif of Obama kicking a door was racist because of the “cultural, historical and living legacy surrounding people of color—particularly young men—being portrayed as violent,” according to the apology letter that Farnan was forced to write. (You cannot be serious. Really?)

Technically, Farnan got off easy. Under the McGill student government’s Orwellian “equity policy,” Farnan could have been suspended or even dismissed from his position as vice president in the organization. The decision to force Farnan to apologize was apparently made by an “equity commissioner,” whose will can only be overturned by a two-thirds majority of the student government. (STOP. You’re making my hair hurt! When are we going to stop the world and let these people off?)

Like a true victim of the thought police, Farnan was forced to denounce his heretical email.

“Despite the innocent intentions influencing my decision to use this particular image, I have come to recognize the negative implications of adding the .GIF image within this given context,” he said. “By using this particular image of President Obama, I unknowingly perpetuated this living legacy and subsequently allowed a medium of [Student Society of McGill University] communication to become the site of a microaggression; for this, I am deeply sorry.”

The punishment of Farnan has proved controversial, however, and now the student government has plans to review the equity policy in the coming weeks. (unbelievable)

Shake Off Our Sleeves

I was working here at my computer and listening to FOX CABLE, as usual, and once again I heard some things that stuck a chord with me. It is most unfortunate that our society has become one that is so “touchy-feely” with everything. Being “offended” has become something to avoid, or go into an attack mode to punish those that are guilty of doing the “offending.”  Those behind our social media, along with those whose life’s calling is to reshape America into their own Marxist-Socialist image, have work feverously to tear down our one time social sense of respect, and replace it with our present day mood of sensitivity to any opinion, theology or ideology we hold dear.

I was raised in a home where both of my parents seemed to have had the same upbringing. Their values were identical, and they passed them on to my sister and me with consistent regularity. We were raised in church (Evangelical), and from my earliest memory, I watched what we learned on Sunday played out in our home throughout the week. There was never a time that we did not know love, which made our strict upbringing tolerable, and now as a mature adult, thankful.

One of the many things I learned as a boy was respect for people in general. I was taught that any form of prejudice was wrong. From my earliest recollection showing people respect by saying, “Sir; Mam;  please; Thank You; etc. was commonplace. In fact, not long ago, a man I knew very well stopped me one day and exclaimed that we were not in the military ( because every time I saw him I would say things like “Good morning Sir”). I responded that I did not learn that in the Marine Corp, but by my parents and grandparents.  That was as much a part of my upbringing as anything else, including political perspectives; I was raised as a conservative Christian with a genuine relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, not a religion or an ideology.

I also was taught to show respect to others who had a differing opinion than mine. Those lessons taught me that a differing opinion was not a rejection of me, my opinion, or beliefs. They were just different. We could have a discussion without argument, or “offending” the person. In fact, one such lesson, learned the hard way, regarded HOW we offend other people; (1) Our attitude toward them, (2) our reaction to them, and (3) the words (including phrases euphemisms, dysphemism and slur words) we use. Yes, words have meanings, and certain words have no place in any civil societal discourse.

As I got older, and got to know my dad better, on more than one occasion I would watch him discuss issues I knew were important to him. Even when opposed with great emotion, he remained calm and would not be confrontational. That was consistent with both my grandparents, and other role models around me.  I know that others were raised in the same way because we shared most of the same values I learned at home. No, we were not raised on another planet.

Out parents, grandparents and other role models were people who came out the Great Depression, two World Wars and the Korean “Conflict”. These were people who had learned these lessons from people who learned such societal conduct from hard times, and respect for what it took to survive. Being thankful was a lifestyle of appreciation for more abundance than most of their ancestors ever knew. Respect for life, respect for others, respect for social conduct, respect for education, respect for family, respect for your Spiritual Life and respect for self were ongoing lessons that knew no graduation.

As I listen to what people say every day, I could get very offended, IF I CHOSE TO GET OFFENDED. Yes, being offended is a choice, a deliberate act of the will. Tip-toeing through life has no pleasure for anyone, especially those that look for ways to be offended. What a miserable way to live. I can’t change them, but I can control my conduct, and my sensitivity.

As for me, I choose to be respectful, loving and accepting (accepting is NOT saying I agree with an opinion, ideology, theology or political spin).  A very wise person said that we need to choose our battles. True. In the mean time, why don’t we just shake off our sleeves, put our “offense gun” back in its holster, and decide to get to know the people we come in contact with every day. Who knows, we might find ways to get along, and make our society more pleasant.
