Anti-police activists were set to burn the American flag at a New York City park Wednesday evening, but their plans seemingly changed when dozens of bikers and veterans came out to counter protest. Flocking to Brooklyn’s Fort Greene Park, individuals opposed to burning the U.S. flag waited for the “Disarm NYPD” group to arrive. While most urged for peace, several bikers threatened violence toward anyone who would burn the American flag.Hate Merchants

“We’re here to f*** up tiny liberal punks,” a biker who refused to identify himself told TheBlaze.

Seemingly intimidated by the large group gathered in support of the American flag, the anti-police activists decided to change plans.

About 30 minutes after the scheduled flag burning was supposed to begin, the group set fire to one flag at a far corner of the park away from counter protesters.

When word got out that the flag burning was underway, dozens of counter protesters, along with the NYPD, sprinted toward the scene. Emotions quickly escalated and one biker pushed a man suspected of being associated with the flag burning to the ground. Moments later, bikers and other counter protesters chased the anti-police activists out of the park, running after them while some threatened violence.

As one woman suspected of being with the anti-police group left the park, a crowd gathered around her.

“Shame, shame, shame!” some shouted toward the woman as officers provided her with protection.

“Get the f*** out of the country if you don’t like it!” another echoed.

Organizers had said earlier that the flag burning was aimed at combatting racism and social injustice.

“There will be no peace until we tear down this system of oppression,” the group wrote on the event’s Facebook page. “It isn’t enough to take the flag down; we must put an end to white supremacy once and for all.”Hate MerchantsCivil Race Both

When the event attracted online attention, “Disarm NYPD” defended the burning of the American flag in an online statement. “We find it a sign of the times that people can care so much about a piece of cloth, while at the same time be so quiet about black churches being burned all over the country,” a post on Facebook said. “Perhaps this is the great difference between us and the so-called ‘patriots’. While they express their loyalty to symbols, we express our loyalty to the lives of the oppressed.”Different Free Speech Ideologies

The group said that it does “not believe the ideals of America are anything to be revered.” “So, we will burn the American flag, a symbol of oppression and genocide, and in the same action, dismantle our stunted, cynical expectations of what is possible in the world,” the group’s statement concluded. “The current trajectory of history is unsustainable. It is completely unrealistic to desire things stay as they are, and more unrealistic, even abominable, to desire to ‘go back to our roots’. We, the dreamers, are the true realists. We know things can’t continue this way, so we commit to building a better world. A world better than America.”More Evidence

Last Tuesday, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh made a prediction that the American flag would “come under assault” after the Confederate flag. At the time he said, “Do not doubt me.”

Hunt on for gunman who shot 2 NYPD cops

Plainclothes officers Andrew Dossi and Aliro Pellarano had just finished their shift but came back on to respond to a grocery store robbery at 363 E. 180th St. when they came upon two suspects at 184th Street, authorities said.

One of them ducked into a Chinese restaurant on Tiebout Avenue at about 10:35 p.m. while the other stayed outside, according to NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton.

“As two of the officers approached the male on the street, the other suspect inside of the store came out and fired upon the officers,” Bratton said. “The officers returned fire.”

The suspects then fled on foot while exchanging gunfire with cops at 184th Street and Tiebout Avenue.

“We are currently investigating if the suspect who fired upon the officers was also involved in the prior robbery,” Bratton said.

Investigators have recovered the .44-caliber Ruger used in the attack on the cops.

Witnesses said they heard a series of gunshots near the location.

Pellarano, 38, was struck in the left arm and grazed in the chest, while Dossi, 30, was shot in the left arm and lower back, authorities said.

“I heard six shots,” said Stephen Melowski, 36. “I looked out and I saw the shot cops getting inside a car. Somebody was saying, ‘Oh my God, oh my God!’ ”

The suspects then carjacked a white Camaro and drove a short distance before crashing at 188th Street and Park Avenue. They then got out and started running.

Both officers, from the 46th Precinct, were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital. Dossi was in surgery Tuesday morning. Their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Both officers are expected to survive their wounds.

The suspects are described as Hispanics between 25 and 30, who wore dark clothes Monday night.

The gunman inside the Chinese restaurant appeared to have a close-cropped full beard.

“Thank God these officers are doing well,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said from the hospital Tuesday morning. “These officers did something that was extraordinarily brave. They did it as part of their commitment. These officers had just come off their shift and upon hearing this call, went back out in search of these criminals. The work they do is so profoundly important in this instance where they went above and beyond the call to protect their fellow New Yorkers.”

PBA Bronx Trustee Joe Anthony said the officers had already ended their shift when they responded to the call.

“Instead of going home to their families, they heroically ran out to help the citizens of the Bronx who were in danger, putting their lives on the line,” Anthony said.

One possible suspect was apprehended at New York Presbyterian Hospital when he sought treatment for a gunshot wound. It was not clear how he was shot.

The NYPD was scouring the area to find at least one other suspect who fled after the shootout.

Sources said there might be a third suspect involved in the heist.

Cops confiscated a black Nissan Altima that was parked outside New York Presbyterian Hospital. The car was rented from an agency in Mount Kisco.

It was not clear how the Altima was connected with the suspects, but it may have been the vehicle used to take the wounded suspect to the hospital after the shooting, law enforcement sources said.

De Blasio arrived at St. Barnabas early Tuesday to console the families of the injured officers.

COP SHOT posted a $10,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the gunman.

Mayor de Blasio, pleaded with the public to step up, tweeting: “It’s crucial that the people of this city aid in this investigation. If you have information, please call 1-800-577-TIPS right away.”

The shooting comes just 16 days after Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were shot execution-style while sitting in their squad car in Brooklyn.

Liu and Ramos were gunned down by a deranged man who said he was out for revenge after the grand jury decision not to indict an NYPD officer in the chokehold death of Eric Garner.

Arrests plummet 66% with NYPD in virtual work stoppage

By Larry Celona, Shawn Cohen and Bruce Golding

It’s not a slowdown — it’s a virtual work stoppage.

NYPD traffic tickets and summonses for minor offenses have dropped off by a staggering 94 percent following the execution of two cops as officers feel betrayed by the mayor and fear for their safety, The Post has learned. The dramatic drop comes as Police Commissioner Bill Bratton and Mayor Bill de Blasio plan to hold an emergency summit on Tuesday with the heads of the five police unions to try to close the widening rift between cops and the administration. The unprecedented meeting is being held at the new Police Academy in Queens at 2 p.m., sources said.

Angry union leaders have ordered drastic measures for their members since the Dec. 20 assassination of two NYPD cops in a patrol car, including that two units respond to every call. It has helped contribute to a nose dive in low-level policing, with overall arrests down 66 percent for the week starting Dec. 22 compared with the same period in 2013, stats show;

  • Citations for traffic violations fell by 94 percent, from 10,069 to 587, during that time frame.
  • Summonses for low-level offenses like public drinking and urination also plunged 94 percent — from 4,831 to 300.
  • Even parking violations are way down, dropping by 92 percent, from 14,699 to 1,241.
  • Drug arrests by cops assigned to the NYPD’s Organized Crime Control Bureau — which are part of the overall number — dropped by 84 percent, from 382 to 63.

The Post obtained the numbers hours after revealing that cops were turning a blind eye to some minor crimes and making arrests only “when they have to” since the execution-style shootings of Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu.

Police sources said Monday that safety concerns were the main reason for the dropoff in police activity, but added that some cops were mounting an undeclared slowdown in protest of de Blasio’s response to the non-indictment in the police chokehold death of Eric Garner.

Statistics obtained by The Post show a dramatic drop in NYPD activity between Dec. 22 — the first weekday after the double cop assassination — and Sunday, compared with the same period last year.

“The call last week from the PBA is what started it, but this has been simmering for a long time,” one source said.

“This is not a slowdown for slowdown’s sake. Cops are concerned, after the reaction from City Hall on the Garner case, about de Blasio not backing them.”

The Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association has warned its members to put their safety first and not make arrests “unless absolutely necessary.”

Sergeants Benevolent Association President Ed Mullins told The Post he’s glad de Blasio is meeting with the unions, but worries that it’s just a publicity stunt.

“I’m disappointed in the issuance of a press release announcing the meeting, which now raises concerns of sincerity,” he said.

“Is this about politics or is it about working through problems?”
