An ethics lesson for USA Today’s ‘queer’ bullies

Michelle Malkin

This week, I did something that USA Today‘s executive leadership apparently hadn’t done lately: I read the newspaper’s “principles of ethical conduct for newsrooms.”

It’s pretty highfalutin. The media manifesto of virtue, posted online, applies to all employees “working with any news platform, including newspapers, websites, mobile devices, video, social media channels and live story events.” Whether writing online or covering breaking developments, USA Today‘s journalists are supposedly committed to:

  • Seeking and reporting the truth in a truthful way.
  • Serving the public interest.
  • Exercising fair play.
  • Acting with integrity.

Kyler Murray (Heisman winner 2018)Now, let’s compare the lofty rhetoric with low-blow reality. On Sunday, 21-year-old University of Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray (right) won the Heisman Trophy. He gave a gracious, emotional speech that celebrated his faith in God, respect for his fellow athletes, love of family, lifelong work ethic and team spirit.

“I’ve worked my whole life to fulfill my goals, but at the same time, I know there’s a higher power looking down on me. He enables me to do all things. For that I’m grateful – for the many blessings that God has blessed me with,” Murray humbly told reporters.

But one reporter wasn’t interested in covering the actual news of the Heisman winner’s triumph. He was interested in sabotaging it. Within hours of the press conference, USA Today sports writer Scott Gleeson penned an article attacking Murray for posting “tweets using an anti-gay slur.” Murray and family awoke Monday morning to a barrage of character smears slamming his “homophobic” posts from six years ago – when Murray was 14 or 15 years old and jokingly called his friends “queer.” Google is now clogged with wall-to-wall coverage of his teenage antics from CNN to The Today Show to every sports outlet and his hometown Oklahoma newspaper.

Gleeson’s hit piece reeks of deceptive vigilantism, not journalism. After noting that Murray had a “Saturday to remember,” Gleeson wrote that “the Oklahoma quarterback’s memorable night also helped resurface social media’s memory of several homophobic tweets more than six years old.”

Who “resurfaced social media’s memory?” Why, it was Gleeson himself! By creating an illusion that Murray’s schoolboy tweets were the subject of any scrutiny and outrage other than Gleeson’s own, USA Today gave us a shining example of the manufacturing of fake news. Ain’t misleading passive voice grand?

Indeed, Gleeson’s own biography is one of a social justice advocate dedicated to identity politics propaganda. “My enterprise and human interest work on the LGBT movement in sports made me an APSE award finalist in 2016 and a USBWA award winner in 2017,” Gleeson boasts. Was he aiming for another award with his ambush of Murray? Gleeson certainly got his new scalp and paraded it prominently, with aiding and abetting by USA Today‘s silent, AWOL editors. Within hours of publication, Murray had apologized.

Gleeson’s new headline blared: “Kyler Murray apologizes for homophobic tweets that resurfaced after he won Heisman Trophy.”

On Tuesday, I wrote to USA Today‘s editor in chief Nicole Carroll and executive editor for news Jeff Taylor with the following questions:

  • How does Gleeson’s article comport with USA Today‘s stated principles of ethical conduct for newsrooms?
  • Specifically, how did the piece “serve the public interest,” “exercise fair play,” exhibit “fairness in relations with people unaccustomed to dealing with news media,” observe “standards of decency” and demonstrate “integrity”?
  • And have there been any executive leadership discussions about the piece since its publication and widespread public backlash?

The editors have not responded yet. In the meantime, I have more questions.

How does lying in wait in for unknown months or years (when Gleeson could have “resurfaced” the old tweets at any time) and publishing a smear in the middle of the night before giving Murray a chance to respond comport with the newspaper’s promises that:

  • “We will be honest in the way we gather, report and present news — with relevancy, persistence, context, thoroughness, balance, and fairness in mind.
  • “We will seek to gain understanding of the communities, individuals and issues we cover to provide an informed account of activities.
  • “We will uphold First Amendment principles to serve the democratic process.
  • “We will reflect and encourage understanding of the diverse segments of our community.
  • “We will provide editorial and community leadership.
  • “We will treat people with respect and compassion.
  • “We will strive to include all sides relevant to a story.
  • “We will give particular attention to fairness in relations with people unaccustomed to dealing with the news media.
  • “We will act honorably and ethically in dealing with news sources, the public and our colleagues.
  • “We will observe standards of decency.”

Will the editors respond publicly to criticism and address readers and employees so that their actions match these words?

  • “We will explain to audiences our journalistic processes to promote transparency and engagement.
  • “We will correct errors promptly.
  • “We will take responsibility for our decisions and consider the possible consequences of our actions.”

Tick tock.

Melania Wears THIS Dress To Church – Liberals LOSE Their Minds

Isn’t it somehow anti-feminist to comment on a woman’s skirt length? Not if it’s a Liberal and the woman is Melania.

Check out the opening in the Daily Mail:

Melania Trump joined her president-elect husband for midnight mass in Florida wearing a very short mini dress as fellow churchgoers cheered wildly as they arrived.

Trump and his wife kicked off Christmas by attending midnight services at an Episcopal church in Palm Beach, Florida on Saturday night. They were pictured arriving at the Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea at about 10.30pm. It is the same church where the couple were married in 2005.

Melania stood by Trump dressed in the mini dress and heels as they spoke to a minister in the church doorway. Most members of the church could be seen standing up and cheering when the Trumps arrived and took their seats.

And what was the controversy all about?

melania-dress

Ok. I’m not really seeing the issue…

This is the same news site that had this to say WAAAAY back in April 2016:

Supermodel Heidi Klum, 42, shows off her killer legs in TINY leather mini-skirt as she steps out for romantic dinner date with boyfriend Vito Schnabel, 29.

She is used to strutting her stuff on the catwalk for the world’s biggest designers. And Heidi Klum is so skilled, she can even make leaving a restaurant look like a glamorous affair…

…The gorgeous mother-of-four cut a striking figure in a very small black leather mini-skirt and matching silk top. The beauty’s tanned and toned legs looked endless, and were given a little extra help with a pair of black leather stud detail stilettos.

heidi-klum

So, why cut down Melania for a skirt that is longer than Heidi Klum’s that had rave reviews? This isn’t really about the length of a skirt.

It’s a way to take a petty swipe at the Trumps because:

a) The Trumps actually went to church on Christmas Eve as opposed to the Obamas that participated in an ‘Escape Room Game’.

and

b) They were welcomed with applause:

The Media (D) is foaming at the mouth to find any reason to be upset with Donald or Melania even when they do the right thing. According to Glamour magazine, it’s a ‘DO’ to wear a shorter hemline for an evening event. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that a midnight service is an ‘evening event’ even if it is a church service.

It’s a good thing we’re now on the look-out for ‘fake news’ because this is one giant nothingburger.

Ann Coulter Letter: “The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth, But They Shouldn’t Be President”

waving flagCommentary by  Ann Coulter  |

URL of the original posting site: http://humanevents.com/2015/10/28/the-meek-shall-inherit-the-earth-but-they-shouldnt-be-president/?utm_source=coulterdaily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nl

The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth, But They Shouldn't Be President

It took a billionaire living the glamorous New York City life to exhibit real Christian courage by going against every elite group in the nation, every media outlet, every well-heeled donor, to defend America from destruction by immigration.

Baptist leader Russell Moore, desperate for liberal approval, claims that Christian conservatives “must repudiate everything they believe” in order to support Donald Trump, who “incites division, with slurs against Hispanic immigrants and with protectionist jargon that preys on turning economic insecurity into ugly ‘us versus them’ identity politics.” (Please like me, New York Times!)

Moore is especially offended by Trump’s “boisterous confidence” and “waving arms” — as he put it in the Times, journal of respectable liberal opinion. (Do Baptist preachers ever wave their arms? Somebody Google that.)

How would Gen. Douglas MacArthur fare with today’s evangelical leaders? Ronald Reagan was a visibly devout Christian, but Richard Nixon wasn’t. Joe McCarthy wasn’t. MacArthur wasn’t.

Sometimes the country needs a man.

The idea that Christians are supposed to be milquetoasts is liberal propaganda. Ask the money-changers how meek Jesus was. (Not the Clintons; I mean the other money-changers.) God commanded the Israelites to go to certain cities and kill “every living thing.” As I recall, the Crusaders were a little rough around the edges.

When Trump attacks, he targets the rich and powerful. When the elites attack, they target the average American and everything he cares about.

When Trump boasts — about his wealth, his family, his intelligence — it’s funny, not mean-spirited. No one feels inferior. In fact, legions of political commentators who’ve never accomplished anything in their entire lives feel immensely superior to Trump.

No doubt, wisdom shall die with them. (Job 12:1 — one of many examples of sarcasm in the Bible, a rhetorical device bossy Christians tell us is un-Christian.)

By contrast, Trump’s personal style is denounced by the Piety Police with smug certitude, to showcase their superior moral understanding.  I’m almost sure the Bible says nothing about arm-waving, but it says quite a bit about the sort of pride that allows a person to presume to speak for God on acceptable speaking styles. God does not mandate personality types and, if He did, I doubt it would be “lisping sycophant.”

It’s not Trump who’s displaying the sin of pride here.

Christians obsessed with ostentatious shows of religiosity in public life have basically the same disease as liberals who go around being offended all the time. It’s all posturing. Trump’s a Christian. This is a Christian country. How about helping keep it that way?

Although Trump has been winning the largest percentage of evangelical voters, evangelical “insiders” like Moore hate him. A poll of “insiders” hand-picked by anti-Trump Warren Cole Smith found only 1.1 percent of evangelical leaders supporting Trump, with 37.4 percent supporting Marco Rubio — as their betters had hoped.

Smith sent the results of his survey to media outlets under the headline: “Evangelicals do NOT support Trump.”

The problem is, they do. Evidently, the flock is not as dumb or “easily led” — in the words of The Washington Post — as evangelical leaders think.

While the Russell Moores and Warren Cole Smiths urgently warn conservative Christians that Trump is a model-marrying libertine, actual evangelicals understand that this is entirely beside the point.

This is not an election about who can check off the most boxes on an evangelical lifestyle list. This is an election about saving the concept of America, the last hope for Christianity on the planet.

A country in which partial birth abortions are freely available, but children can’t hold hands and pray in school, is not a country where Christians are winning.

What difference does it make where a candidate stands on abortion or gay marriage, when a few more years of our current immigration flow will mean no Republican can ever be elected president again and nine Ruth Bader Ginsburgs will sit on the Supreme Court?

Unless Americans stop being outvoted by foreigners, Christians — as well as libertarians, neoconservatives, fiscal conservatives and moderate Democrats — have no hope of winning anything, anywhere, anytime. The last Christian country on Earth will be no more.

Evangelicals don’t need candidates to have religious ecstasies on stage. They need a man with the courage to stand up to the infectious madness pushing Third World immigration on our country.

Marco Rubio devoted his entire Senate career to pushing amnesty — but he made a point of letting the press know that he went to church on Wednesday this week, the day of the debate.

Meanwhile, Trump’s pitch to the religious right is: Yeah, I don’t go to church that much. (At least we know he’s not lying!) But he promises to build a wall, deport illegals and end anchor babies.

Evangelicals know Trump will not go on a witch hunt against some county clerk over gay marriage or sue a high school football coach for allowing his players to pray. It’s the left that has the maniacal bloodlust of totalitarians. Only Trump will oppose them — and with gusto!

What other candidate would toss out un-PC phrases like “illegal immigrant” and “anchor babies” without breaking into a sweat? No other candidate of either party agrees with Trump on immigration — and if they say they do, they’re lying.

Even after Trump rocketed to the lead with his immigration policies, the media still refuse to discuss the issue. The demand for ever-more poverty-stricken immigrants from primitive cultures has gone beyond cheap labor and has become a mass hysteria.

Half the evangelical “leadership” in America can’t comprehend anyone who is not consumed with worldly approval. Russell Moore is afraid to disagree with The New York Times from his religious community in Tennessee. Donald Trump actually is an elite, but he doesn’t care what his friends on Fifth Avenue think of him.

Some Christians want proof that a candidate has memorized Bible verses. I want a candidate who lives by this verse: “So do not be afraid of them.”

WATCH WHAT THESE JOURNALISTS DO: During The Nat’l Anthem At The #DemDebate

waving flagWritten by Wes Walker on October 14, 2015

Well, they certainly did in this clip. Too bad this is a lesson that the supposed media elite haven’t learned yet.

Journalists would have us believe that we’re wrong to write them off as elitists in ivory towers. They love this country too. They’re just as American as any average working stiff.

But the camera tells a different story, a story confirming many patriots’ suspicions.

Could there be an innocent explanation? Probably. It could be that people are reading more into this than they need to.

But you don’t need to be a PR consultant to see the credibility problem.  When people have been burned before, they notice the little things: the little snubs that others might get away with.

It doesn’t help that the media keeps writing off conservatives that love their country as the villains in their narratives. They like to put us on the same moral plane as terrorists — or even worse, since some downgrade actual terrorism to “workplace violence”.

If they didn’t disdain “fly-over country” it might be easier to offer the benefit of the doubt.

But those bridges have been burned already.  One too many scandals buried. One too many pieces praising the bold initiatives of those abusing their office.

Well, guess what, guys? We no longer trust you. Many of us never did.

You say you love America. We don’t believe you do. Not America. Not her People. Not her History. And certainly not her Institutions.

And that is why, when the cameras are rolling, and you think nobody is watching, we are. We notice that the Anthem is played, and you ignore it. You sit distracted in your chairs. Bored.

In a room of 400 journalists at the Democratic Debate, only about 20 stood up when the National Anthem played. The numbers were similar at the Reagan Library. (And ‘conservative’ media outlets? You were little better. We noticed that, too.)

Others might get the benefit of the doubt. Most probably would.

But your indifference, (disdain?) bears too close a resemblance to what we see at 1600 Pennsylvania. It has all the class and decorum of a selfie at a funeral.  And we’re sick of it.AMEN

Glenn Beck Warns of Coming Christian Holocaust

Posted By Michael Becker Michael BeckerApril 12, 2015

URL of the Original Posting Site: http://joeforamerica.com/2015/04/glenn-beck-urges-americans-not-to-play-politics-over-the-coming-christian-holocaust/radical-islam-threat

We want to be crystal clear on this subject.  First, a Christian holocaust is happening right now at the hands of Muslims in the Middle East.  The reason the Christian holocaust hasn’t been stopped can be summed up in one word:  politics.

When the US left Iraq, excuse us, when the Barack Obama pulled US forces out of Iraq before their job was done, there were about 1.5 million Christians living in Iraq.  And they were living in peace.  The pull out was a cheap political maneuver at the hands of a cheap political whore, US President Barack Obama.

Today, there are about 400,000 Christians left in Iraq and they are under siege by ISIS forces, having been given three options. One, convert to Islam.  Two, leave.  Three, die.

This is a problem that isn’t going to be solved from the pulpit.  We should certainly be praying for Christians in Muslim countries, but it’s going to take some serious military intervention to stop this holocaust.

Dr. Sebastian Gorka is an expert in the Middle East and here’s what he had to say last year.

…“in the last 48 hours, ISIS, which is now called the Islamic State in Mosul, has painted the letter “N” for Nazarene on the houses of all the surviving Christians in the city. ISIS has basically given an ultimatum to all the Christians left: You can either flee or convert to Islam, or we will kill you.”Christian Persecution

Gorka points out that, over the last 20 years, America has stood up around the world to save Muslims. “Whether it was to save the Muslims in Bosnia or the Albanians, Kosovars, and Muslims in Serbia, it is now time for a humanitarian operation to save the remaining Christians in Iraq,” he said. “It is time for the American people and our representatives to do something for our co-religionists remaining in the Middle East.

… “Let’s face it, this is a Christian version of the Holocaust and nothing less.”

The facts are clear to all who would see.  Muslims have been butchering and enslaving their neighbors for 1,400 years.  Barack Obama and his enabling media partners go out of their way to compare Muslims to Christian missionaries.  They ignore the biggest difference, and they do it intentionally.

  • Muslims immigrate into a country and insist that their culture be adopted – Sharia Law and all.  As they gain more power – or if they’re simply an invading force – they declare that Islam is the state religion and all must convert, serve Islam in a slave-master fashion, leave, or die.

  • Christian missionaries, on the other hand, immigrate to serve the people of a different country.  They are frequently medical missionaries who bring healing along with the Gospel.  They serve the people, they don’t enslave or butcher them.

Again, that’s a difference that Barack Obama and his ilk never face.

With respect to Beck, here’s what Dr. Gorka says.

[T]he mainstream media is in full support of the White House narrative “that the President single-handedly killed Osama Bin Laden, and that Al Qaeda is now on the ropes; therefore, jihad must be shriveling up around the world.” This myopic strategy of only targeting Al Qaeda has provided great opportunities for other jihadists and has given rise to ISIS.

“On top of that,” Gorka asserts that, “the mainstream media are warped in terms of their world view.” According to Breitbart’s national security expert, the media is “post-modernist, sophisticated, and secularist. So when it comes to the idea of religious persecution, they say, ‘Well who really cares because I don’t believe in God. If you are not sophisticated enough to be a post-modernist secularist… tough on you!’”

Gorka didn’t finish there with his scathing indictment of the mainstream media. He added that it is their racism that will let this genocide of Christians continue. “To the mainstream media,” Gorka charged, “the dark skin person always has to be the victim. Either the Hamas terrorist in Gaza, the Nicaraguan gang bangers coming across the border likened to juvenile political refugees… the idea that the white skin Christian or the Israelis as victims, that goes against every narrative this media wishes to pedal. They are necessarily so locked into their own ideological vision of the world.”

Imperial Islamic President ObamaBarack Obama, the media, and the Democratic Party as a whole are locked into the belief – as an article of faith – that America is the cause of all that is bad in the world.  Actually, make that “white America.”

Combine that with an ideology – Islam – that takes it as an article of faith that they have the right and responsibility to butcher “non-believers” and you’ve got the perfect storm that IS a Christian holocaust.

This problem needs to be solved politically and militarily.  We need to take the gloves off, understand that Muslims are at war with us, and act accordingly.  The Rules of Engagement put in place by George W Bush and then softened significantly by Barack Obama aren’t going to make it.
