Yes that’s just how stupid the denial rhetoric has gotten from the White House.
“No religion is responsible for terrorism — people are responsible for violence and terrorism,” Obama told delegates at the White House Summit on Countering Violent Extremism.
He could just as easily have said that Nazism isn’t responsible for terrorism — people are.
Of course there is no Islam without people. Ultimately everything done is done by people. But Obama has adapted the NRA’s slogan about guns to ideologies. But unlike guns, which are inanimate objects, ideas live in the brains of people. And yes, they can make people kill people.
But there’s some history behind this argument. The USSR sold it to Communists when it made a deal with Hitler by claiming that ‘isms’ couldn’t be fought. It couldn’t fight fascism. It couldn’t fight Nazism.
He also said: “We are not at war with Islam — we are at war with people who have perverted Islam.”
Again, who decides what legitimate Islam is and what is a perversion of Islam? Did someone appoint Obama the Grand Ayatollah?
We have non-Muslim politicians across Europe following up every Muslim terrorist attack in the name of Islam by claiming that’s not legitimate Islam. Who gave them the theological authority to make that determination?
But Obama has one more sophomoric argument in his quiver.
“Al Qaeda and ISIL and groups like it are desperate for legitimacy. They try to portray themselves as religious leaders…They propagate the notion that America, and the West generally, is at war with Islam. That’s how they recruit. That’s how they try to radicalize young people,” he said.
“We must never accept the premise that they put forward, because it is a lie, nor should we grant these terrorists the religious legitimacy that they seek,” he added. “They are not religious leaders, they are terrorists. And we are not at war with Islam. We are at war with people who have perverted Islam.”

So if we call Muslim terrorists… Muslim terrorists, the terrorists win?????
That’s how stupid the argument has become. Again Obama asserts the ability to decide who legitimate Muslim leaders preaching legitimate Islam are. And he claims that deviating from this opinion aids the terrorists. That neatly marries denial to national security as a policy. Either we deny that Muslim terrorists exist or we’re helping the terrorists we’re denying exist. The only truly patriotic position is to squat with your head in the sand.
