Brittany Guidry of Louisiana, competing for the title of Miss USA, finished 3rd runner-up in the annual beauty pageant. But it wasn’t her looks, bathing suit, or talent that earned her the biggest applause.

The top 5 contestants are asked questions about current events, and Guidry’s question was about the issue that’s been headlining papers for the past week.

“In recent weeks the U.S. has released five detainees in Guantanamo in exchange for one U.S. soldier held captive in Afghanistan. The U.S. policy is to leave no soldier behind. Do you think it’s fair to sacrifice or swap lives to uphold this policy?”

Guidry’s answer was well-informed, sensible and simple. She may not have won the crown, but we know one place that could use her common-sense approach… Is the State Department hiring
